The crew in the jail cell on the Red Flag are in their own sort of Gravy Basket parallel. They aren’t dead yet, but there’s possibly only a little life left for them. They’re in a waiting area, counting down to a deadline maybe. It’s just a matter of time… they’re reconciled to the inevitable.

And Stede just refuses to accept he can’t save them with the weaponising of camomile tea. He’s in emotional pain from their actions, and has no idea if the escape plan will work, but they have to try. Yet Stede alone doesn’t save the crew. It’s a joint effort. They listen and do and play to their strengths, but it’s Stede’s belief which gives them the hope to attempt it.

They try together, and succeed.

Meanwhile, Ed is in his own Gravy Basket purgatory. He’s not quite dead yet, but there’s very little life left. He’s sinking into the black ocean of a dying mind, counting down. There’s a deadline here too… it’s probably only a matter of seconds… he’s reconciled to the inevitable…

…Ed’s fight to live begins by Stede removing the face shroud; daring to look death, Ed’s death, in the face. It’s the tiniest spark of Ed knowing he’s not alone, and it’s enough. And once Stede hears faint knocking, sees a hint of life in Ed’s hand, Stede refuses to accept he cannot be saved. Stede will stare death down. He’s going to call and shake until… And Ed is going to scream and let go of that weight and have his Merstede vision. Like with the crew, Stede alone doesn’t save Ed. It’s a joint effort, but Stede brings the hope.

Together they try with everything they have, and Ed lives.

So i remember an ask mentioning your mortal enemy, Felis Atra and their cats, and i thought it'd be fun to draw what Felis Atra's version of your italian dogs would be.

I think they would be called Butter Knife and Flamengo! Butter Knife is not his real name, it's an nickname given by his peers because of how harmless he is. I choose Flamengo because that's the name of Vasco's rival football team here in Brazil, so i thought that was the perfect name :)

Cat Machete was slightly inspired by the Oriental Shorthair cat because of their long noses and thin head shape.

Cat Vasco was inspired by the Scottish Fold cat, because FLOPPY EARS. I gave Flamengo longer ears and orange fur to make him more like his look-alike.

The last doodle is a reference to this ask (https://canisalbus.tumblr.com/post/728923918314946560/me-i-am-machete-ear-fan-number-1-those-ears) and contains the tumblr ask stand-in dog, whose cat version was inspired by the American Curl cat! They have round ears that are slightly floppy outwards.

Final notes: I know cardinal clothes don't come in vibrant blue, but i was ADAMANT on switching Machete's and Vasco's clothing color patterns. I would draw the rest of Butter Knife's and Flamengo's clothes, but i suck at designing cool outfits.

Speaking of outfits, for Machete's iconic void outfit, i figured it would be fun to make it more baggy for Butter Knife, in contrast to Machete's, that looks very tight-fitted. I think it's cute, it kinda looks like a sweater. Also i can't imagine a Machete doppelganger without high heels boots, so those HAD to stay.

Oh, and just to be clear, i'm not like, claiming ownership of these guys or anything. I just thought it would be a fun exercise. Hope you like them!! I love your art and your characters.

One thing I really appreciated in Sunrise on the Reaping was how it addressed the questions of "what if we all just refused to kill each other" and "what if everyone else simply banded together against the Careers." It's so different to what we see take place in the 10th and 74th Games. The entire Newcomers strategy is something that would probably have seemed like a ludicrous impossibility to Katniss and the other 74th Games tribute at that point in the event's history. But SOTR argues that actually all it takes to form that kind of an alliance is the slightest human connection before the games begin. Maysilee helping everyone with their tokens. Haymitch sharing 12's extra lunches after the Careers' steal them from other districts. Ampert being sure to include everyone in his alliance proposal. That's all it takes for these kids to go, "we can't kill each other." And instead they band together and fight and die for one another instead of against each other, and it's not about who's the strongest or what each person can bring to the table, just the base agreement between all of them that all of their lives have value. And the best part is that you really believe they would have seen it through, too. When they discuss what they'd do if they actually managed to kill every Career and conclude they'd just have to let the Gamemakers weed them out from there, you do believe that's what they'd have done. When Maysilee and Haymitch decide they need to find Wellie, when they agree she could paint the poster, too, it's such a beautiful moment because, yeah! Really any of these kids could have done it!! And all of them would have been willing to try.

I think about that scene where kenta passes out and ryuga just kind of waits there for him to wake up a lot. As much shit as I talk about metal fury, I think it did a lot of justice to ryuga's character, and that scene is a pretty good example of how.

A lot of the reason ryuga is Like That is as a result of being constantly treated like a god by everyone around him (hell in the manga I'm pretty sure he was one). As the series goes on you can see him becoming more and more detached from humanity, and I get the vibe that's because he starts to consider himself less and less human. By metal fury he's practically become a totally asocial creature--but when this annoying little kid starts following around, he still can't bring himself to leave him for dead. Kenta's persistence in trying to overpower him was probably the most social interaction he'd had since Fusion, and I think that connection started to pry open the obscene amount of boundaries he'd set up by then. I think that little bit of prolonged and not-immedietly-hostile company restored a little bit of humanity in him. Just moisturized the fuck outta those dry humanity sponge capsules in his heart. Idk. Found family but instead of a wholesome loving dynamic it's an evil codependent hateful version of your older brother who shoots you with his bb gun.

really love what sinners did with Remmick because among all the other things he represents and does, he really drew my focus towards the thing with some white people where im sure theyve got their own ethnic backgrounds n shit and still it seems to be so rare for them make efforts to actively practice customs related to those backgrounds and instead go around culture vulturing in the name of acceptance which rests upon the belief that they alone are capable of making those judgements. they genuinely do believe themselves to be so far removed from their cultures and community that they dont make any genuine effort to study n engage with it, making themselves out to be neutral blank slates. major component of remmicks character in this movie is that he sees the community that Black Americans create for themselves and how theyre simueltaneously able to strengthen connections to historic culture and create a culture in the present that is foundational to continue being able to do so and sees it as something he cant do as a result of colonization in Ireland after which hes become a blank slate. and on top of that he thinks that to be able to maintain cultural connections as they do he needs to ursurp their culture because to him his own culture cant function like that even tho he doesnt really try to. see that in the difference between the music because he uses his performance of rocky road to dublin as a way to subdue and lure other people as opposed to using it to connect to them much less to reconnect to his own heritage. hes goes into this accepting that his ties to his Irish heritage/ancestors are gone so he doesnt even bother trying to create anything. majorly, where we see Black Americans progress their culture ( shown through Music in this movie) through multiple centuries into the 20th century and beyond, Remmicks cultural progression is stagnanted, seen in his singing of an early-mid 19th century folk song in the early 20th century. no new music. he understands the importance of culture here but has no idea of how to utilize or evolve it to create community. Other cultures evolve and progress so that theyre able to maintain themselves but Remmick believes hes been uniquely affected, uniquely stripped and stagnanted and doesnt engage in any of that. would be surprised to see the culture that could be created instead of lost and/or stolen had he ever even tried but his white ass couldnt be bothered.
