Fic Fairy Friday: Civilian Tim Giving The Batfam Heart Attacks
Tumblr media
I know, I know, this week's theme is weirdly specific but I was originally going to theme this 'Tim Joins The Batfamily Early' but like half of the ones I wanted to rec has him joining them late but fit the vibes I wanted so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
BTW: Consider this a general TRIGGER WARNING. Jack and Janet Drake in the comics are, at best, neglectful parents and at worst vaguely emotionally abusive and physically threatening but no actual physical abuse. If the fic makes them more abusive than this canon baseline I will add a trigger warning. Feel free to let me know if you think I need to add an extra warning for something!
The Fic Fairy Friday Masterpost
Puzzles Made of Broken Glass by thatcuriouscat
Summary:
Sherlock Holmes retreats to his Mind Palace to think, to problem-solve. Superman has his Fortress of Solitude, reportedly. 9-and-five-sixths-year-old Tim Drake has his Blanket Fortress. Timmy Drake’s parents go missing. He’s the only one who notices.
Momo's Notes: I usually prefer to only rec fics that are complete but I occasionally make an exception for one that's exceptionally good and still regularly updating. thatcuriouscat is one of those authors that knocks it out of the park every single time and the characterizations are perfection so this fic is a must read. Tim's parents go missing so Detective Drake starts investigating even as his entire life, precarious emotional stability, and distressing lack of self-preservation is crumbling down around his ears. I love fics where Tim and Robin!Jason meet and become friends and the chapter where Tim and Dick meet had me squealing and kicking my feet.
One Smart Magpie by Marbles_and_Sweetpeas
Summary:
Tim Drake likes to think he's your typical 12 year old. Well, except for the sneaking around at night and doing detective work. And figuring out the Bats' identity. But that's it. Really. Except everything seems to be spiraling out of his control. Something serious is going on in Gotham, and Tim might be the only one who can put all the pieces together in time to stop it. Or: Tim is a crazy little detective who just wants to help in any way he can. Of course the Bats are going to adopt him.
Momo's Notes: Another fic for baby detective Timmy and joining the batfamily early! Tim is wandering around Gotham at night knowing the usual secrets he shouldn't know but also running his own investigations. He's trying to figure out the mysterious happenings in the city at the same time Jason, Dick, and Bruce are aggressively trying to adopt this sweet kid with zero self-preservation instincts or supervision. Timmy is seriously badass during this one while still being a kid overwhelmed with being in way over his head.
Holy security breach, Batman! by destiny919
Summary:
Janet finally shoos him away towards the hors d'oeuvres or drinks table with the tacit understanding that she doesn't want to see him again until the end of the gala. And probably not even then, it wouldn't be the first time the Drakes forgot to take him home with them and Tim had to discreetly call an Uber before the host noticed and made Tim embarrass his parents. For this gala, however, he almost hopes they forget him again, because tonight Tim has a plan. They're at Wayne Manor, and Tim is going to find the Batcave.
Momo's Notes: Short and sweet! Precocious 8 year old Tim decides to put his detective hat on while at a Wayne gala and manages to find and sneak into the batcave. Cue the distressed bat and bird noises!
A Brief Interview by Miss_Lazy_Tuesday
Summary:
When Damian finds a small child with an expensive camera on a rooftop in the middle of Gotham, he decides to follow in his father’s footsteps and take the boy home. After all, why should Bruce be the only one who gets to add to the family? Damian and Tim age swap fluff.
Momo's Notes: Short but hilarious. A version of a "Tim Joins The Batfamily Late" trope where he's the 8 year old fanboy to Damian's 14 year old Robin. Damian decides he's had enough of being the baby of the family and proves he's his father's son by picking up a new little brother while on patrol and bringing him home with no warning to the rest of the household. The others will surely marvel at his generosity and brilliance. Tim is mildly alarmed but mostly starstruck.
Boom, Boom, Pow! by LilaVaporizer9000
Summary:
If anyone asked the Batfamily which Robin had the funniest ’joining the family’ story? Well, everyone would start with, “Well it seemed like Jason had the spot taken for good after having the audacity to try and jack the Batmobile’s tires and hit Bruce with his tire iron.” And then they’d say, “But then tiny Tim decided to try and steal the whole thing.” Or: When Tim is 11 he figures it’s not hurting anyone if he. Ya know. Takes a picture in the Batmobile. But then the power goes to his head and all of a sudden he’s hacking the Batmobile and tearing through Gotham on a rescue mission.
Momo's Notes: Gearhead baby Timmy takes the Batmobile on a joyride and the Batfamily was never the same. Dick and Jason's budding rivalry has delightful Wayne Family Adventures vibes. If you've read WFA you'll know the chapter I'm referring to when you get to those scenes lol. They are such total goobers. Bonus points for the author including a link to a playlist they made for Tim's cringe car music. I love it when authors include a fanmix for the story.
bitty batty baby vigilante crew by deargalileo
Summary:
There were two kids up on the roof. They couldn’t have been older than ten, but frankly, they looked like babies. The boy had dark hair and a red jacket, while the girl was dressed in all purple with blond hair poking out from under her hood. Jason was pushing himself over the ledge before he could really think about it. What were two kids doing on a rooftop, in the middle of the night, in Gotham? the story of two kids conning their way across gotham, and (mostly) inadvertently into the batman family.
Momo's Notes: There aren't nearly enough stories of tiny Timmy meeting Stephanie early. The chaos and shenanigans those two get up to as teens are legendary. I don't know if Jason's nerves can handle them as kids with WAY more recklessness and distrust of authority.
Surveillance by smilebackwards
Summary:
Tim knows antagonizing Lex Luthor wasn’t exactly his safest move but the point is really driven home by the bullet to the shoulder. Or: The AU where Jason never died and Tim is a civilian who contributes to crime fighting by taking surveillance photos and leaving them on the desktop of the Batcomputer.
Momo's Notes: Here's an awesome 'Tim Joins The Batfamily Late' trope fic! His casual disdain for dangerous rogues who'd happily squash him like a bug combined with his careless disregard for his own health make for an especially stressed Batfam, especially Bruce and Jason. This one is actually part of a series and has TimKon! Score!
Northern Attitude (I Was Raised on Little Light) by theskeptileptic
Summary:
It's not Tim's fault Batman slept with his mom sixteen years ago, or Tim's fault that Bruce Wayne regrets signing away his parental rights fifteen years ago, but Jack Drake sure thinks it is. Now Damian is bugging him about cows and family and Jason and Dick won't stop kidnapping him and Bruce is acting like court orders don't matter, like he doesn't have a huge bat-shaped secret to protect from literally the whole freaking world. Why is Tim the only functioning adult in this situation? This was supposed to be coated in angst, but it fell in the fluff bucket instead. (So, update, some people are saying this may not be as fluffy as I am advertising it. I plead the 5th.)
Momo's Notes: TRIGGER WARNING for incredibly abusive Drakes here. That "fluff bucket" claim in the summary is definitely false advertising. This story is really good tho with some quality Tim and Damian bonding! The number of stress and panic induced heart attacks Tim gives the Batfam in this one is truly off the charts lol.
cards on the table by wesslan
Summary:
Tim's parents faked their deaths and fled the country years ago, but neglected to take him with them. He spent some time on the streets, and now at 16, he makes a living as a fortune teller, stalking and hustling the shit out of Gotham's elite by telling them eerily accurate fortunes based on the information he gathers about them. His life is peculiar but he wouldn't change a thing. When he gets booked for the big Wayne Halloween party, however, he finds himself getting all tangled up with the Waynes, and the more fortunes he tells, the tighter the snare becomes. or: Tim just wanted to scam Gotham's elite, not end up on the Batfamily's watchlist. But it seems they just won't leave him alone..
Momo's Notes: Another 'Tim Joins The Batfamily Late' fic! Despite Young Justice not appearing at all in this fic it still gives me the YJ98 vibes with all the insane plans and shenanigans Tim has up in the air, here. He's stalking half of Gotham's rich, famous, and dangerous so he can scam them all into thinking he's a legit psychic.
Latchkey by goldkirk
Summary:
or, How Tim Drake Found A Family, Became A Photojournalist, Learned To Love Coffee, and Grew Up, not necessarily in that order. Tim Drake is thirteen, runs the famous BatWatch blog that has spiraled hilariously out of control, has absentee parents that suit his purposes just fine, is training himself to run the streets at night, and is doing absolutely peachy, thank you. Alfred and Jason disagree, and get Dick and Bruce involved in figuring out their weird nextdoor neighbor kid’s life. Everything goes uphill from there.
Settle Our Bones by motleyfam, justbeyondstars, batmoniker
Summary:
Tim is good at galas. No, scratch that—Tim is great at galas. He’s been attending them ever since the age of three, when his parents first stuffed him into his little Gymboree tuxedo and gave him a stern lecture about ‘sitting quietly’ and ‘speaking when spoken to.’ He knows all the rules: what to wear, how to stand, when to smile, what to say, what not to say. He knows how to come across as polite and intelligent and charming, and on absolutely any other day, he would be rocking this. --- Or, my take on a ‘Tim Joins the Family Early’ AU, told through a series of sleepovers, most of which are unplanned. Featuring pre-teen Tim, Alive!Jason, and a whole lot of hurt/comfort.
Momo's Notes: The chances you haven't already read Latchkey and Settle Our Bones is slim if you're a Tim Drake fan but they are classics within the 'Tim Drake Joins The Batfamily Early' trope for a damn good reason so I had to include them on the off chance someone hasn't run across these amazing fics yet! TRIGGER WARNINGS for abusive Drakes! Also both of these series do a great job of depicting trauma recovery but that can also be triggering for some people so be careful.

Fuuuuck. My favorite trope is "Tim Joins the Batfamily Late" and there's so few of those out there. I just love that angst or the chaos with an unsupervised Tim, one who's parents definitely died, that doesn't have the support of the batfam.
Like, no matter how you spin it, it's so interesting to see how drastically that changes things. Did Jason never die? Did Bruce heal enough before Tim could step up? Did Tim still get training with Lady Shiva? Is he a somewhat civilian? Is he a non-Bat vigilante? Does he still form YJ? Did he stay in Gotham?
The sandbox is huge, and it's such an underutilized trope.

do you like tim joins the batfamily early or late better?
i love a good early fic. i have my own ideas for a few different ones i want to write someday, and i read them a lot. my favorite is "The Lone Ranger Never Had to Deal With Bruce Wayne", it's super fun. but i think the late fics are severely underutilized. you could do SO MUCH with this one. did Jason never die? was the timing just off? did Tim's parents start caring about him before he became Robin and had some individuality? did his parents not die? did his parents die before he could become Robin and so he decided to fake having an uncle so he could raise himself? is he running his parents company or did he find someone he trusted to take care of that while he completed his education? what about Tim's friends (that he has fic writers please stop forgetting Tim has friends outside of Robin), are they in on whatever scheme Tim has going? is Tim helping people out without a cape or did he make his own? so many possibilities...
also, i think when you do write a late fic, it should be very recognized how much the family would have changed if Tim wasn't there, especially if the fic doesn't have anyone as Robin (specifically Steph). Bruce would NOT be doing so hot unless someone else stepped in. maybe Dick broke the ice and came back on his own and he's being taking care of Bruce, but it's strained because they're both not big fans on the whole "emotions" thing. if Jason is still alive or he was found before the LoA got him, whatever the case, Bruce would definitely be doing much better. but if Jason still died and Tim (or no one else) came around, I fully believe Batman would have been injured so badly he had to quit, he would have died, or he would have hurt someone
SOOO many possibilities, folks,,,

Jason's mom just died a few months ago, and suddenly, at sixteen years old he has no parents, no home, no money, and is literally starving. Things aren't looking good for poor Jason, but then he stumbles across a man bleeding on the side of the road. He doesn't hesitate to help, because Jason always helps people in need. Good deeds are always rewarded, even in a grimy crime-ridden city like Gotham, and just like that, Jason's bad luck starts to turn around.
Tim is living the thirteen year old dream as Batman's sidekick. As a little kid he grew up in Metropolis with an unhealthy hyperfixation on Superman - he created the #1 Superman blog when he was five, and had his nanny sew a tiny lead lined vest so he could take pictures of the hero without Superman hearing his heartbeat and stopping the little stalker. When his mom died he moved to Gotham and Bat-stalked Batman and Robin so hard that he eventually became Robin. Life is great, but when he stumbles into Crime Alley Medical Clinic, meets Jason Todd, and instantly gets a new best friend, life gets even greater.
- or, Gotham finally gives Jason a break, he meets a Robin with no chill, and slowly gets absorbed into the Batfamily.

Phandom boy
Danny as Phantom saved Tim's civilian side. Tim had a crush on him ever since.
Danny was not interested in joining anyone. So people left him alone. Phantom didn't want anyone to come to Amity park or places close to it. He said it was not wise and didn't want anyone getting hurt. So Tim didn't get to create an opportunity in peace.
Tim joined a server of Phandom - fans of Danny Phantom. He was so happy reading and enjoying talking to others about Phantom and Team Phantom.
Activities in Spirit roaming the living world grew and Phantom has started to show up more around the living.
Phandom puts a post on the server telling how Team Phantom was talking about needing a good detective to their team that has connections in the living realm.
Guess who has them? Yes you guessed it right!! Red Robin!! A.K.A Tim Drake-Wayne.
You can bet our little smart gremlin applies for the position.
Tim: I was a little too bored lately and can meet my idol too. Yeah sign me up. I should let people know that I am leaving. Let's see, everyone is so busy. Oh well I let them know later.
---------------------------------------------------
He did not let anyone beside Tam know later that he left. He, in Tim's style forgot to let people know. It was not that important, so Hups.
Batfam starts panicking. Where is Tim? He is not in his normal places and his teammates can't find him either.
Tam knew, because Tim wouldn't be showing up to the office anymore so, that's all. Tam is too used to Tim's craziness and thinks everyone knows. Color her surprised, when Batfamily is calling her about that dumbass.
Tam: Tim, damn you. How would you forget to let people know about this??? And why is he not answering???
---------------------------------------------------
Tim enjoying the time with Team Phantom. This is the best decision ever!! "I should get a new phone, honestly I didn't know phones can die like that"
"Phantom is so much cuter up close. So handsome and single too." Said Tim smiling while looking at many pictures of Phantom he took and with Phantom's permission.
" Everyone is so kind and welcoming here."
---------------------------------------------------
Team Phantom feeling the peace, because they don't have to do all the crazy work against powerful idiots. They have someone who knows and enjoyes screwing with bad people. Red Robin is perfect and fits nicely here.

Batfamily x Neglected Reader x Theodore Nott
Tumblr media
A/N: Sooo I’ve been obsessing over neglected Bat family fics lately and the idea of mixing it with Hogwarts just wouldn’t leave my head!!! I tried to make this both angsty and satisfying - hope you enjoyyy!!!
Part 2
˖ ݁𖥔.☁︎.𖥔 ݁ ˖✧˖ °. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁‧₊˚ ☾. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁˖°✧˖ ݁𖥔.☁︎.𖥔
You were born as [Y/N] Wayne, the biological daughter of Bruce Wayne and twin sister to Lila Wayne. You were both a year older than Tim Drake, making you part of the prestigious Wayne family… at least on paper.
From the moment you could remember, it was always Lila who got the attention. Lila who Bruce picked up and swung around. Lila who Alfred made special cookies for. Lila who Dick would take to the park. Lila who Jason would protect fiercely.
You? You were just… there.
“Dad, look what I drew!” you said excitedly, holding up your artwork at age 8.
Bruce barely glanced your way, “That’s nice, sweetie. Lila, come show me your dance routine again!”
You lowered your drawing, watching as your twin sister twirled and received thunderous applause from the entire family. Your papers crumpled in your tiny fist as you quietly slipped away… again.
When the letter arrived on your 11th birthday, everything changed.
An OWL. An actual OWL swooped into the Wayne Manor library where you were hiding, reading alone as usual. The letter it carried was addressed specifically to you:
Miss [Y/N] Wayne The Smallest Bedroom Wayne Manor Gotham City
“What the hell…” you whispered, breaking the wax seal with trembling fingers.
HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY
You read it once. Twice. Three times. A witch? YOU?
When you told your family at dinner (which you were only at because Alfred insisted), their reactions were… predictable.
“Magic isn’t real, [Y/N]. Stop making things up for attention,” Bruce said dismissively.
“Yeah, [Y/N], that’s stupid,” Lila giggled, and everyone laughed along with her.
Only Alfred raised an eyebrow, “Perhaps we should investigate this claim, Master Bruce.”
But it didn’t matter if they believed you. Because Professor McGonagall arrived the next day, turned their coffee table into a pig, and suddenly no one was laughing anymore.
Lila wasn’t magical. The test McGonagall performed confirmed it. The look of PURE JEALOUSY on your twin’s face was the first genuine emotion she’d ever directed at you.
“I’ll take you shopping for your school supplies tomorrow, Miss Wayne,” McGonagall said kindly.
As you packed your trunk to leave for Hogwarts, you realized no one had come to say goodbye except Alfred.
“They’re busy with Lila’s recital,” he explained apologetically.
You smiled sadly, “I know, Alfred. They always are.”
The moment the Sorting Hat touched your head at Hogwarts, it spoke gently: “Ah, a Wayne with a heart too big for the family that failed to see it. Better be… HUFFLEPUFF!”
The table of black and yellow erupted in cheers, and for the first time in your life, people were actually happy to have you join them.
The years at Hogwarts changed you. Professor Snape discovered your talent for potions and took you under his wing. “You remind me of someone I knew once,” he said quietly one day. “Someone who deserved better than she got.”
Professor McGonagall became the mother figure you never had, teaching you not just transfiguration but strength. “Stand tall, Miss Wayne. Your magic comes from within, as does your worth.”
You made friends… real friends. Blaise Zabini with his dry humor. Draco Malfoy who, despite his arrogance, always saved you a seat in the Great Hall. Pansy and Astoria who braided your hair and taught you beauty charms. Even the mysterious Riddle brothers, Mattheo and Tom, treated you like their little sister, hexing anyone who dared upset you.
Your letters home grew shorter and fewer.
Dear Family, Hogwarts is fine. Classes are good. - [Y/N]
Their replies, when they came at all, were equally brief.
Glad you’re well. Lila made the honor roll again. - Bruce
By fifth year, you had stopped caring. Your family was HERE, among the magical folk who saw your value.
And then there was Theodore Nott.
Tall, intelligent, quiet Theodore with eyes that followed you in the library. Theodore who asked you to the Yule Ball with a rare, nervous smile. Theodore who kissed you beneath the enchanted ceiling as fake snow fell around you both.
“You’re extraordinary, [Y/N],” he whispered against your lips. “They’re fools not to see it.”
You fell HARD for Theo. His family’s estate in Italy became your favorite topic of conversation.
“We could go there,” he said one evening in your sixth year, his fingers intertwined with yours. “After graduation. Start fresh where no one knows the Waynes or the Notts. Just be ourselves.”
The idea took root and grew.
By your final Christmas break at age 18, you had barely spoken to your birth family in years. You only returned to the manor to collect the last of your belongings before graduation in six months.
“You’re… leaving?” Bruce asked, looking genuinely confused when you announced your plan to move to Italy with Theodore after graduation.
“Yes,” you said simply. “I’ve been gone for seven years, Dad. You just didn’t notice.”
The entire family stood frozen in the foyer. Dick looked stricken. Jason was frowning deeply. Tim seemed bewildered. Damian scowled. Even Alfred appeared pained.
“But… but you can’t just leave,” Lila sputtered. “You’re a Wayne.”
You laughed, the sound hollow. “I stopped being a Wayne the day I became a witch. You made sure of that.”
The doorbell rang, cutting through the tension.
When Alfred opened it, there stood Theodore Nott in an impeccably tailored wizarding suit that somehow still looked Muggle enough to pass in Gotham. His dark hair was styled perfectly, his handsome face serious as he took in the assembled Wayne family.
“Ready to go, darling?” he asked, his eyes softening only when they landed on you.
Lila’s jaw DROPPED. You couldn’t blame her. Theodore was gorgeous, wealthy in both wizarding and Muggle terms, and completely devoted to you.
“That’s… that’s your boyfriend?” she stammered.
“Fiancé, actually,” Theodore corrected smoothly, showing the engagement ring on your finger that none of them had even noticed. “We’re viewing properties in Italy next week.”
You picked up your enchanted bag that held all your remaining possessions. “Goodbye,” you said simply.
As Theodore led you to the waiting magical car, you heard Lila’s shrill voice: “Dad! Why does SHE get to go to Italy with a hot rich guy? IT’S NOT FAIR!”
Some things never changed.
But as Theodore squeezed your hand and whispered, “Home is wherever we make it, [Y/N],” you realized some things DID change.
You had found where you belonged. And it wasn’t with the Bat Family after all.
˖ ݁𖥔.☁︎.𖥔 ݁ ˖✧˖ °. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁‧₊˚ ☾. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁˖°✧˖ ݁𖥔.☁︎.𖥔
A/N: This was sooooo satisfying to write!!! I might do a part 2 if people want one where the Bat family tries to get reader back but she’s living her BEST LIFE in Italy with Theo and her magical family comes to visit and puts the Waynes in their place!!! Let me know what you think!!! Enjoyyy!!!

Ok I need a Tim Drake joins the Batfamily late (+ Jack Drake dies and Janet lives) where Tim fights crime from the inside of the high class society. He knows when someone is doing something illegal with their companies and gets information in between galas. Charming his way into the highest secrets of the Gotham Elite so he can move the players out of the way and let their companies be Pac-Man ate by his mother’s company.
Janet uses the power to help the less fortunate parts of Gotham in exchange of Tim helping her grow the company.
Tim gives the data he founds to Batman and Robin. He likes to give them in physical form—mostly so he has an excuse to have a super cool costume and jump from buildings.
Every Robin has encountered “The Siren” at least twice and even then he only knows two things 1- He is really pretty 2- He has a way of speaking that makes you want to tell him all your secrets. Batman has him marked on the Batcomputer as a Meta; Tim’s not a meta, he is very trained in the art of manipulation tho.

Fic Fairy Friday Recs MASTERPOST
On fridays I try to recommend at least 10 fics around a central theme. Currently I'm doing Batfamily fics as that's what I'm into right now but I'll branch out eventually to include other fandoms.
I'm starting to get quite a collection of these so I though it was about time to make a masterpost linking all of them for everyone's convenience before the amount I'll have to link at once gets out of hand lol.

Dick and Tim Brotherhood (Tim Drake, Dick Grayson)
Tim and Jason Brotherhood (Tim Drake, Jason Todd)
Tim and Jason Part 2
Tim and Damian Brotherhood (Tim Drake, Damian Wayne)

Tim and Cass being Siblings (Tim Drake, Cassandra Cain)

i know it's just my side project and doesn't have many chapters out rn, but man, i LOVE Darkly Dreaming Drake. it's been sooo fun to write a older, cynical tim.
it's also a lot (like, a LOT) darker than 1-800-GOTHAM with no angst, just murders, which is fun for me to write! i get to tap into my less.... angsty...? side and just write bumfuck words on a screen. no character study needed!
i don't recommend reading it if you're uncomfortable with graphic imagery and just literally any canon Dexter content though lol like it gets real nitty gritty
but like (sneak peek for ch. 3) i think i'm so funny
Tumblr media
anyways. here's my nonofficial shout to read DDD. i am vibrating in my flesh to get to the fun bats-meet-tim moments bc it's sooo fucking funny

Batfamily x GN! Insecure Reader
Title: Under the Bat’s Wing
Characters: Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne & Alfred Pennyworth.
Summary: GN! Reader is adopted by Bruce. They believe they aren’t truly loved, but slowly, the Batfamily begins to show them otherwise.
CW: Light angst, comfort.
Word count: ~ 1.6k words
Tumblr media
You came to the manor young, older than Damian by barely a year, but still just a kid yourself. Bruce had taken you in early, almost as if he’d seen something in your haunted eyes that mirrored his own, and while Damian had raged at the intrusion, at the idea of another stray, another mouth, another fragile thing trying to share the place that was supposed to be his, you simply kept to yourself.
You were polite. Quiet. Eager to help, but never eager to be seen. Alfred noticed it first: the way you cleaned up cups left behind by Tim’s late-night coffee runs, the way you remembered how Dick liked his tea sweet, the way you gave Damian wide space when he was bristling and angry, and how you would listen, small and patient, when he ranted about the world’s idiocies, never flinching at his harsh words.
You never assumed you were wanted in the room. You always waited at the threshold, until someone waved you in. You never interrupted the chaos of family arguments, instead lingering just far enough away to be forgotten.
But Damian, for all his sharpness, couldn’t ignore you forever. He noticed, with the simmering resentment of a boy desperate for control, that you were always there. Watching his training with an unreadable face. Slipping books back into the library that he’d left strewn on the table. Bringing bandages when his knuckles split from punching too hard, setting them on the counter with trembling hands, as if unsure he’d accept the offering at all.
At first, he spat venom. Told you that you were weak. That you had no place here. That you were pathetic, lingering on the edges like a ghost.
You nodded. Agreed. Apologized for existing, with your eyes cast low. Damian hated the way it made his chest twist.
Dick was softer, of course he was. He always invited you along: to movies, to patrol briefings, to pizza nights in the cave. Jason teased you just enough to watch you flush and stammer, the way he did with anyone he liked. Tim sometimes forgot you existed, but when he did remember, he treated you like a puzzle: handing you bits of data to help sort through, checking your answers, praising you absentmindedly when you got something right.
Little by little, without realizing it, you threaded yourself into the fabric of the house. It happened in quiet ways. A blanket draped over Jason when he dozed off on the couch, a cup of tea pressed into Bruce’s hand when he returned from patrol looking world-weary, a gentle pat to Alfred’s shoulder when he worked too long in the kitchen.
The family began to notice, in their own ways. Damian grumbled less, letting you sit beside him in the library while he read. Dick started leaving little notes on your door: “Join us in the cave later! Got something cool to show you.” Jason began bringing you back small things from runs: a keychain, a bar of chocolate, a knife with a handle he thought you’d like.
And yet, you never really believed you belonged. Even as your laugh began to ring in the halls more often, even as Alfred started scolding you like any of the others, even as you fell asleep on the couch with Damian’s feet propped on your lap. You told yourself it wasn’t real. That you were tolerated, maybe even useful, but not loved.
You stayed up late, staring at the ceiling, turning over every moment of warmth in your mind like it was something borrowed, bound to be taken away. You flinched when Bruce’s voice rose, apologizing for things that weren’t your fault. You tried to slip out of rooms if you thought you were in the way. You never asked for anything.
It drove Damian insane. Because he could see it, the desperate hunger in your eyes, the way you tried to hide the hope when Dick smiled at you, the way you looked away quickly whenever someone offered praise, as if you didn’t deserve to hear it. He hated the way it mirrored something in himself, hated how familiar that gnawing emptiness felt.
It was a slow war he waged: snapping at you to stop apologizing, pushing you to speak up, scowling when you tried to hide in corners. He threw you into sparring sessions, ignoring your protests, told you to fight back when you flinched. Sometimes you cried, and he sneered at you for it, but then slipped you tissues and didn’t comment when you gripped his sleeve like a lifeline.
The others did it in their ways, too. Dick praised you often, so often you began to almost believe he meant it. Jason took you on runs through the city, letting you sit behind him on the bike, telling you stories about Gotham’s back alleys. Tim started asking for your help so regularly that you began to feel needed, maybe even trusted.
And slowly, something in your eyes began to change. You laughed more. You argued back, tentatively at first, then with real fire. You started leaving notes of your own on Dick’s door, bringing Jason coffee without being asked, correcting Tim’s code with a grin. You even dared to tease Damian, once, about the way he scowled at everything, and he had glared, but secretly, he had smiled.
Still, you didn’t quite believe it. Not completely. Not yet. But the Batfamily was patient. They had learned how to rebuild broken things, how to stitch together a home out of shadows and grief. And piece by piece, they were determined to prove, not just say, but prove, that you weren’t a ghost in the walls. That you were needed. That you were loved.
And one day, when you stumbled into the kitchen after a nightmare, shaking and pale, Bruce was there. He didn’t say anything, just wrapped you in an embrace so tight it made you cry. And the others came, one by one, surrounding you with warmth and fierce, silent protection.
And maybe that night, with the whole family holding you close, you began to believe, just a little, that you weren’t alone anymore. That maybe you were wanted. That maybe you were loved.
And maybe that was enough, for now.

Tim Joins the Batfamily Late: Vigilante Style AU
His parents send him to a boarding school abroad (or at least out of Gotham). From there, he encounters Lady Shiva and other trainers. Tim obviously can't keep his nose out of other people's business and becomes a vigilante for that city. He may also collect evidence and blackmail the JL from abroad to provide Batman with better mental health care. Tim can't leave to assist Batman in person (boarding school and parents suck ig) so he does what he can. He stops blackmailing them and cuts contact once he sees Batman has improved.
He sometimes partners with the YJ crew, but Tim's a little more morally grey (Batman's not hovering over his decisions and yelling at him about murder and stuff. Also, his mentors aren't always on the hero side). He tries to keep himself off of the JL radar and is an unofficial member of the group (despite paying for a lot of their necessities).
When he's around the same era as Red Robin, he goes up to the JL and is like "yo, Batman's alive and stuck in the timestream."
The JL have heard of this vigilante, but they've never worked with him before. The YJ crew, besides Cassie, is dead, so they can't really vouch for him. Cassie is also doing the cult thing, horrified by Tim's mad scientist basement antics, and emotionally repressed from the grief of losing two of her friends.
Tim, realizing that Dick probably has a lot on his plate, doesn't try to convince him of Bruce's continued state of breathing. Besides, why would Dick trust a stranger?
Instead, Tim tries Red Hood and the Outlaws. They don't really believe him, but they are willing to lend a hand here and there.
When he's traveling to find evidence, he comes across Black Bat. Out of everyone he's tried, she does believe him. Cass joins him on his search when she can. It causes Jason to make jokes about taking turns babysitting the youngest vigilante.

WIPS I COULD REREAD OVER AND OVER AGAIN:
Wants and Needs (well, mostly wants): Chefs kiss, I am in love. Tim is so evil and so cute. Such long chapters that i totally love.
1-800-Gotham: SO MANY MISUNDERSTANDINGS!!!! All the bats want to adopt Jax and think Angel is evil.
Drake’s Spoiled Brat (I’m sorry Dad): As you can see I am a SLUT for Tim joining the batfamily late or early. This is also filled with identity shenanigans which are my favorite.
little menace: He’s such a cute little monster. Timmy is deaged to a vaguely evil toddler which is just awesome.
Double Trouble: CHAOS LORD TIM. Nothing else exists of this which is so disappointing as im in love now.
Jason Todd’s Guide on How to be Haunted with Minimal Stress: MWAH I AM KISSING THIS. I literally reread this the second i finished it. If it’s abandoned i will host a funeral. Dick, Tim, and Damian are sent back in time and Robin!Jason mistakes them as ghosts. They’re all surprised by what a sweet innocent child he is.
god turned human: Percy Jackson crossover. It only updates once a month which is so sadddd. I need to know where it’s going.
