She  retracted  her  hand  as  fast  as  she  could  and  began  giggling  like  a  complete  idiot  while  incoherent  babbling  escaped her  mouth .

Just as quick as the other drastically pulled their hand back from her impish advances, Vivi was just as fast to cling to her companion like a magnet that refuses to let off.  The familiar tickle of her icy chill is swift to tangle against the other’s skin, where she engulfs the other into the wrapping embrace of her fluffy sweatered arms.  The dame gives her friend a giant squeeze around the torso before squishing the side of her cheek against Layla’s in a comical attempt in flustering her just a bit further.  

“What’s the rush, my dear blue~?”  She teasingly sings out.  “Why are ya shy all of sudden, after endlessly teasing me during our walk through the woods, my sweet?  Ya said ya wanted my entire attention, didn’t ya not?”  In all honesty, all their playful jokes while they had been chatting about the latest monster failing to take over Tempo had been in playful fun, Vivi tended to bend the truth a little just a tad.  Even if it was a bit nonsensical and dots were being connected where they shouldn’t.  Was it going to stop her though?

No.  Not when she caught the other way off guard like this!  It was almost too fun, and perhaps a bit too bad she didn’t have her camera brought with her for just a precious moment to be saved.  It always made her smile seeing her friends laugh… For what’s a companion without happiness to follow them?

“Or is my favorite gal of all time leading me on~?”  She teases some more.  “Because I see a pretty smile on her riiiiight here!”

“Ooh!” Wind exclaimed, scurrying up to the front of the room. A rusted old treasure chest sat on a pedestal, lid creaking as the sailor peeked at its contents. “Aw…”

Hyrule stood up, brushing his hands together. He glanced around the room, examining the situation. They had been portaled– it was still swirling above him– but only he and Wind were here.

That was odd. Shouldn’t the others be here by now?

“Hey, Wind?” Hyrule called, frowning as he stared at the door opposite the treasure wall. “I think we might be trapped.”

Wind’s head shot up. “What?!” He dashed across the room, slamming himself against the door. “Shit!”

The traveler frowned, making eye contact with Wind. “Where do you think the others are?”

“Dunno. And just when I was gonna ask Wild for a snack, too,” the sailor grumbled, waving a hand. Suddenly, he blinked in surprise. “Oh. Wild.” Wind reached into his shirt, pulling out his strange blue rock.

Wild’s voice crackled through the stone, barely audible. “Wind? Where are you?”

“Stuck in some fucking room!” Wind complained, leaning back with a dramatic groan. “We can’t get out. Door’s locked from the other side.”

“We?” Legend’s voice butted in. “Is Hyrule with you?”

Wind glanced back to the steps where Hyrule had sat down. “Yeah, he’s here. Can you just get us out of here?”

Hi, me again! Hope you dont mind my abundance of questions. Since coming out of my lurker cave bit by bit, I decided to finally ask everything I've been itching a long time too.

I was wondering how you would describe your "behind the scenes" aspects of writing?

Some more specific questions, if it helps, are: does the behind the scenes vary from fic to fic, or is it pretty much the same all around? What methods do you use for characterization, and finding and sticking to the characters voice, especially in dialogue? Does this vary depending on if it is an OC or CC? How has your writing style, and process changed as your skill grew? And I'm most curious about what first steps you did when you started to write and plot out The Mad Witch? Outlining, figuring out characters, plot/foreshadowing, figuring out pacing, other kinds of creative processes, that sort of thing.

Please feel free to add onto this, and ramble as much as you wish, I am probably forgetting more specific questions, but in general I am just intrigue by how The Mad Witch, and your other fics, get from start to finish, essentially.

More good questions! I don’t mind; feel free to keep ‘em coming. I don’t know if I can answer all of them in their entirety, but I’ll do my best.

Does the behind the scenes vary from fic to fic, or is it pretty much the same all around?

Yes and no. My next answers should explain.

What methods do you use for characterization, and finding and sticking to the characters voice, especially in dialogue?

Writing. That’s it. Literally just by writing. With every major fic I’ve written/am writing—A Certain Darkness, The Mad Witch, Rosemary Reaper—I started by writing a series of short(er) fics first. While you don’t have Darkness or Reaper for reference, you can tell from fics like “Fear Itself” and “The Scarlett Cauldron” that the characters are more prototypes for TMW than anything. Once I find a voice, though, it becomes habit—I don’t have to think about it.

Does this vary depending on if it is an OC or CC?

Not in TMW. Because the canon characters are a) older than their actual canon counterparts, b) not audibly voiced, and/or c) don’t make much of an appearance in their canon, I’ve given them the characterization that feels right to me and am not bothered if they’re OOC. This isn’t always the case in other fics though.

For OCs it is always the same, including with player characters. Angel, Lily, Ros, Nora, Kole—no one knows their voices and personalities until I write them. All I have to worry about is making them distinct, not about whether they match characters who already exist.

For CCs who are a) close in age to their canon counterparts, b) voice acted, and/or c) prominent in their canon, I do have to work extra hard to get their characterization down. For my Fallout and Arcane fics like Rosemary Reaper and By Arrow, By Teeth, this means a lot of listening to recorded dialogue on repeat. (Piper and Nick may consume my last shred of sanity before Reaper is done.)

How has your writing style, and process changed as your skill grew?

For one, I’ve learned to have more faith in my audience’s ability to read between the lines with the age old “show don’t tell” trick. You would be appalled at how many sentences I cut out of those Darkness snippets I shared that were just the characters stating the obvious. I’ve tightened up my prose a great deal too, which has improved my sentence- and paragraph-level flow. And then there’s outlining…

What were the first steps you did when you started to write and plot out The Mad Witch? Outlining, figuring out characters, plot/foreshadowing, figuring out pacing, other kinds of creative processes, that sort of thing.

I sort of answered this last ask, but adding onto it: so much of TMW simply exists in my head. I have a vague outline on a single piece of paper that lists the major plot points and story beats, so I mostly just point the characters at those points and see what they do to get there. There has been no clearly defined process beyond writing and thinking about writing.

In some ways, this has been a lesson in how not to write a longfic. A vague outline is good because it enables me to easily make adjustments as characters make choices I didn’t originally plan. If something unexpected feels right or a cool detail comes to mind, I’m able to add it without having to adjust a million other carefully plotted details in the process. Unfortunately, I made my outline too vague, which has made this fic 100k-200k words longer than expected. I love this fic. I love all the little subplots I indulgently crammed into it. I never want to write something this length again.

Fortunately, I seem to have learned from my mistakes because, after working with a slightly more detailed but still vague enough chapter-by-chapter outline, Rosemary Reaper is set to be half the length of TMW.

Omg heyyy! So I have these friends from my church and they are a bit older than me. So, we were planning on hanging out tmw morning. We were going to watch the sunrise at the park, go to my house to swim bc I’m the only one with a pool, then go to another girls house and she was going to do our nails. But then they decided that it would be weird if I went with them to the sunrise thing and i kind of understood bc they already had these plans with other people, but we were still planing on hanging out after. THEN, they said that they forgot that they had plans to go to brunch (I think??) with their moms (2 of them are twins, the other one is their cousin) and normally I would get it but I feel like Everytime they (and their other friends) have plans together it always works out but Everytime I am supposed to go with them it gets canceled 😔

I really like them but irdk what to do or how to feel about this. They are such sweet girls and I really don’t want to have my feelings hurt when I know that they definitely dont want that. 🤍🤍

ugh this sucks so much:(( i think in this case you kinda just have to let go and let them do whatever they’re gonna do and trust in your own slay factor. if they make time for you and you have fun they are your people and that’s awesome!! and if they don’t then they’re super not worth your time or energy or mental space!! even if they are genuinely nice and sweet people, you do deserve friends who make time for and prioritize you! always invest yourself into people who are reciprocating your energy, otherwise you’re just draining yourself for no reason! that’s been a rlly big lesson for me and i hope this advice is any help😭😭🩷🫂

• i have no idea if people still remember this series of mine, but i do remember starting it out of desire to create a character of lust, battle and trauma and laying it bare for the xianzhou luofu to witness (cough jing yuan) so this series WILL be continued out of self interest

• the direction of this series will take a dark turn. it wont all be happy, but since its inspired by honkai impact... you're going to see more of powerful reader, and come to me in inbox, should i refer to old gods as herrschers? make this timeline where the universe of star rail will be tested by the imaginary tree's schemes and threaten to fall it towards the sea of quanta? i primarily have a good understanding of the whole imaginary tree thing, and i can see it applies to hyv games, thus leading me to the question of — are all connected somehow? (hsr welt's from hi3 after all)

• so yeah! i'm just conflicted as to what direction ill lead tmw with, so please, indulge me with your ideas and help me make sense of the timeline for it.

• (option 1) star rail, a universe that fought off the very, very ancient forces of what people of the infinitely old called honkai, and since the eradication of the ancient forces, they have been thriving ever since, hence the start of new technologies combined with long forgotten ones (previous era combined with stellar resources today) but all had forgotten about them in the process, them being the houkai, and the imaginary tree will soon test this 'bubble universe' (hsr) because simply; it is its law, it is its nature.

• (option 2) no bubble universes, no honkai impact timeline, just hsr itself with elements INSPIRED by the game

• (option 3) come to me! (told you im so conflicted hehe)

been playing elden ring. its been fun. already lvl 21 or 22. really fun. also doing a series on asdivine hearts via streaming. my mom hates the color change on my car but I like it so thats what matters. it takes them forever to get ready. i dont think they are meant for each other with all the bickering and such going on and if my mom wants me to cook for her when Chip dies then shes gonna have to treat me better or find a way to do it herself. perhaps she can pay someone else to feed her? if i say its someone elses doing suddenly it's the greatest thing in existence. i truly have stopped caring about what she thinks. theres just no pleasing her. she might be in a mood today. short answers for the win. something funny tho she asked chip where i was and then chips expression was priceless. i had to bite my hand to not laugh at the time. of course he didnt tell me to come cuz i was waiting inside. he just looked at her the way he always does. but i had a good hard laugh at that one. i love the color change in my car. no its not hard to put on just time consuming. if you like purple and green itll be great. but i never asked my mom what she thought cuz i dont care what she thinks. its very negative anyways. my smoker friend thought it was cool and couldn't wait to see it finished. thats my thoughts too. i guess ppl like my mom have nothing going on in their lives so they need to nitpick and what not to feel anything. but not getting a reaction is upsetting when the person simply doesn't care. why they feel the need to yell on the phone is beyond me. but ok. i don't have much love for my parents honestly. it just turns into what they can do for me at this point. i enjoy my friends and step brother more actually. at least i have a conversation involving what i like with him. Chip can be so loud with every thing he speaks with pictures. we just freeze in place and he has to be so loud all the time. he can talk on and on about whatever but when it comes to me theres silence. also another tired day. so after the tv gets turned off for the night then ill go to sleep. its goona be a long day huh? then i work tmw.

Tmw today was pretty good but im still feeling sad and tired and lonely and lethargic.. Fucking Seasonal Affective Disorder sucks ass I got art and worldbuilding to do damnit but thanks to this stupid winter depression im not feeling passionate about anything at all Like I am not feeling the drive to do art. I want to do art but my heart isnt in it. Im just sad and nothing is giving me satisfaction

Already emailed my psychiatrist about it and hopefully he will respond to me tomorrow with more things i can try to treat it because boy does it suck to feel miserable without a way to relieve it

like what do you want from me brain??? If it's sunlight I sadly cant provide it because its fall and we are in northern europe!! I legit think this is pure brain chemistry issues, it feels like it and its stupid because you are like "i have no reason to be like this, stop it" and your brain is like "Nah, im gonna feel like shit anyway"

Unless my brain is working through some trauma i dont know about because its fucking hiding it from me and throwing it into the background where i cant reach it and only notice im depressed and tired all the time. It's something it loves to do so totally possible Wish my brain wasnt this difficult to deal with augh
