Wairuha: They're a fusion between an air person, water person, and an ice person. Also, technically they are one-third woman because the water person was a woman and that is very gender. The fusion of three powerful Toa warriors, Wairuha can summon powerful storms to vanquish enemies.

Mirabelle Chevalier: although she's not the POV protagonist of the game, she's the "chosen one" of her story in an unconventional way - everyone believes she was chosen by the God of the religion she follows, but she was really chosen by another person and feels like a Fake Hero because of it. she has a personal character arc where she struggles with her religion and realizes she's aro/ace at the end of it too!! her cute little head is full of Anxiety and Care For Everyone and i lobve her. her dual-element-ness isn't all that integral to the story but she's just so good we think she deserves a W anyway

Spoiler warning if you haven't finished the Trials of Apollo, especially the last book, Tower of Nero.

I still don't understand why people complain about the Trials of Apollo books.

Yeah, Apollo is kind of insufferable in the first few chapters, but his character development, learning to see the world through mortal eye and actually consider the consequences of his actions, is fucking amazing, especially given how much we all complain about the Gods in this fandom.

A god made flesh, forced to confront his own sins?

The carelessness that lead to the death of Hyacinth, the self-absorption that destroyed Daphne, the pride that cursed Cassandra, the ruthlessness that slaughtered the children of Niobe, the callousness that allowed him to ignore his lover Commodus's complete lack of regard for others when it amused him and then murder Commodus with his own hands, the cruelty that lead him to torment Harpocrates, they all come back to bite Apollo in the ass. And it's only by being made powerless that he can come to realize how terrible his power made him.

Being mortal makes him finally see himself clearly. He can only understand his own selfishness once his godhood is out of the way.

And the closer we come to his redemption, to his ascent, the more hints we get about his relationship with Zeus, who is, frankly, the worst of the gods as well as the most powerful. And we get so many hints that when it comes down to it, Zeus himself is an abusive father, like his father Kronos before him. It's literally the same familiar cycle writ large across eons and pantheons and human destinies. All he selfishness and abuse Apollo and his siblings have dealt out, they learned from their father.

And in the end, Apollo wins his ascension, only to no longer want it. Godhood is no longer a reward but a burden. He time with the demigods has left him an outsider among the Olympians, and the thing is, he doesn't want to take it back.

Tower of Nero just has so. many. good. lines!

Trials of Apollo takes all the things the reader has been left to question since those first pages seeing Percy and Luke grappling with their immortal families and their roles as humans in the realm of the Gods and weaves them to a final conclusion.

Tell me that isn't bad ass, especially for the themes of a middle grade series.

i’m so excited because some pages are darkly decorated and its so cool. still don’t vibe with the title though (the sun IS a star and its peeving me)

oh my god i don’t think i’ve thought about the words “significant annoyance” in so long. bringing back good memories for sure.

i can tell which parts were written by riordan and which parts were written by oshiro. i don’t think their voices are blending very well together…

also, maybe it’s because it’s the start of the book and they’re trying to familiarise new readers quickly with the characters but it feels like they’re making nico the caricature of ‘emo and shadow and ebony darkness dementia raven way 🥀⛓️🖤’ and will the caricature of ‘happy and sunshine and blonde and flower gleam and glow ☀️🌈🫧’ and i usually like this dynamic when it’s not blatantly pointed out every other page. i have faith they’ll show more complexity than this later on though. future yan will let me know by the end. (future yan here, im not at the end but the characterisation def does get more complex thank gods)

“we made a mistake. you have to fix it.” <- call me a red flag but if i was nico i would do anything and everything to not go. i would medicate myself so highly on sleeping pills that i can’t dream (doctor bf can go kick rocks). i would track percy and annabeth down and haul their asses into tartarus instead to do it. and if i had to go i would only go in to kill bob myself for sending me those traumatic ass nightmares. no thx. bro willingly jumped in himself and now wants me to save him. nuh uh.

If I ever get around to writing a 'Percy Jackson' (2005) franchise & 'Avatar: the Last Airbender' (2005) franchise Crossover Alternate Multiverse that's set in A.t.L.A. but stars the P.J. characters (...or, more accurately, my P.J. A.M. rewrite timeline's versions of them), this is more or less how it'll go:

All of the Gods (Titans and Primordials included), nymphs, satyrs, monsters, giants, dwarves, elves, etc. are either humans or spirits (who gets which option varies);

All demigods, magicians, clear-sighted mortal humans, and non-clear-sighted mortal humans are humans;

Anyone controlling water, earth, sand, metal, electricity, fire, or wind in canon P.J. is a bender (as in, an elemental magic user in A.t.L.A. 'verse);

Anyone without elemental magic yet having some other type of magic is a bender if their canon P.J. magic can correspond to the canon A.t.L.A. abilities of benders;

A.t.L.A.'s Inuit and East Asian influences stay, but I'll add at least 1 location based on East Africa and at least 1 location based on West Africa plus at least 1 location based on South Asia along with at least 1 location based on South Europe;

Although the setting is mostly East Asian, the people's respective ethnicities vary a lot more thus there are ethnically black folks, ethnically white folks, Native Americans who aren't Inuits, etc. in the story (however, I'll make sure each canon Asian character from P.J. gets several Chapters/Episodes focused on them as individuals);

Estelle is an earthbender born in & raised at the Southern Water Tribe and Percy & Jeremias & Felix are waterbenders from the Southern Water Tribe,

Frank is the Avatar & from the Northern Water Tribe (his predecessor was Aeolus who ran away from the Northern Air Temple to the North Pole at age 16 after 4 years of dealing with huge pressure from being the Avatar, unaware that his people were slaughtered by the Fire Nation shortly after he left, then got frozen for 80 years by the Avatar Spirit before dying),

Will is (1 of 10 halfsibs &) a healing-focused waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe whose healing-focused firebender bio dad Apollon ran away from the Fire Nation (where he was born) at age 12 alongside his nonbender older bio fraternal twin Artemiana who founded a celibate team called the Hunters after she trained with the Hekate Warriors (Hekate was the Avatar before Aeolus and died from old age when 248),

Luke (whose bio dad Mermes is an airbender descended from Air Nomads) & Annabeth & Clarisse & Hylla & Reyna & T.J. & Mallory & Gunilla & Julian are nonbenders who are Hekate Warriors living on a small island located between the Earth Kingdom and the Southern Water Tribe (healing-focused waterbender Magnus lives on the island too, with his & Annabeth's non-combatant nonbending legally adoptive dads Blitzen and Hearthstone, but Magnus barely knows how to swing a sword or sail),

Meg is a plant-focused waterbender from the Foggy Swamp Tribe,

Jaz is a healing-focused waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe,

Cleo is a sand-focused earthbender from the Si Wong Desert (plus she likes using her bending to harden the sand into stone to make statues),

Samirah & Alex are nonbending Air Nomad descendants who were born in the Si Wong Desert then their complicated family moved to the Lower Ring of Ba Sing Se (secretly keeping their own culture's customs alive as much as possible, though Samirah is more concerned with historical preservation than her genderfluid sibling since Alex isn't as focused on traditions) and do their best to keep innocent people safe from the Dai Li,

Walt is an earthbender who manages to figure out bonebending (which 'bout a century prior Plades had figured out too, his 3 kids seeing him use it) thanks to help from the spirit Anubis as Walt is spiritually enlightened enough to see spirits even when they don't take on a physical form (nonbender Bast was his spirituality teacher thus Walt decides to teach Nico & Hazel when he meets them, to pass on communication with spirits & bonebending),

Carter & Sadie are airbender bio fullsibs who travel all over the World with their nonbender bio dad Julius Kane whose dead wife Ruby was an Air Nomad descendant like him plus his dead bio fullbro Amos was an airbender (which is why Sadie & Kane haven't really been trained since their dad is terrified of losing them too),

Zia & Alyssa are earthbenders and from 1 of the Fire Nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom,

Rachel is a wealthy spirit-touched nonbender from Gaoling in the Earth Kingdom who has visions of the future & the past,

Bianca & earthbenders Luna & Nico & Hazel were born in the early days of the war but their dad Plades (who is Hazel & Luna & Nico's bio dad and Bianca's stepdad) put them in the Spirit World then Grover – a nonbender from the Earth Kingdom who lives as a nomad – gets kidnapped into the Spirit World during Frank's adventures & meets the sib trio who join Team Avatar (although, Luna & nonbender Bianca soon leave it to join the Hunters),

Reyna eventually leaves the Hekate Warriors to join the Hunters,

Foívi is a healing-focused waterbender born in & raised at the Fire Nation who ran away then at age 17 joined the Hunters who taught her to become a tracking expert,

Zoë is an Air Nomad descendant – through Atlas, along with being the bio daughter of Pleione who was a waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe – & a nonbender who at age 14 was the 1st person to join the newly created Hunters team,

Calliope is an airbender who figured out how to use wind to generate lightning and at age 16 joins the Hunters,

Thalia is a lightning-focused firebending princess from the Fire Nation who ran away after her bio halfbro prince Jason was on his 3rd birthday left by Fire Lord Zeter to be eaten by wolves solely for having airbent (Zeter himself is a lightning-focused firebender who – coz of help from his Northern Water Tribe descendant born-in-the-Fire-Nation nonbending first wife Metis – killed Sanos with a potent poison mixed into the previous Fire Lord's usual mustard and wine sauce),

Jason isn't ripped apart by wild wolves coz his Air Nomad descendant born-in-the-Fire-Nation nonbending bio mum Jura manages to convince the wolf spirit Lupa to save her son by paying with her own memories then Lupa decides to adopt Jason since she had 2005 years prior adopted a pair of orphaned baby identical twins named Romulus & Remus,

Piper is a Cherokee nonbender from the rich Upper Ring of Ba Sing Se the capital city of the Earth Kingdom (living there alongside her 6 halfsibs), and

Leo is a firebender whose flames burning his nonbender bio mum Esperanza to death traumatised him thus he ran away from the Fire Nation (age 3 at the time & almost immediately joined by Thalia who was age 6) then joined the Hunters (alongside Thalia) and a decade later he became Team Avatar's mechanic (having been taught by nonbender bio fullsibs Charlie & Nyssa how to improve his mechanic skills).

That 'bout covers the basics of this story, right? I'll figure out the details later.

HAEKA, toa Mangai of ice (9/11)

Searching the snow-blind outskirts, many a matoran has been pulled from their icy doom by the strong hands of toa Haeka. Preferring actions over words, she happily busies herself keeping the most remote shrines and patrolling the least walked paths.

Haeka wears the great Rode, it's truth-telling powers giving her unparalleled insight into the motives of strangers and the embarrassment of rescued matoran. She carries a Brumal Diskhammer and a collection of magical disks, their powers working in tandem with her tool.

Haeka has a habit of disappearing for days on end--on her own if she can't convince any of her siblings to tag along. So far, though, she has always come marching back home...

HAPPY BIONICLE DAY!!!!! time for another look into my mind to see more Bionicle minifig concepts, this time... After sacrificing himself to save the mask of life, the brave matoran's soul was revived and reforged by the great spirit Karzani with a new form, the great spirit also granted a boon of power to his friends, the six were reformed into a new generation of toa who would help protect the planet they call home. The Toa Inika.

Do you ever think it's weird how movie and novelization portray the Glatorian actually super ecstatic of the Elemental powers of their weapons?

Since if possible they're all (if the least Ackar and Kiina with canon timeline and age span ig (it's still confusing to me as well and I still barely understand it dw)) traumatized as fuck from the Elemental Lords

So with that their uneasy to have their weapons (and if not later on themselves (if we ever had a canon concept without the cancellation the Glatorian's elemental powers from their weapons split or transfer to themselves to control like Toa) wield) control the very elements the tyrants of the Elemental Lords went mad of their power

So this would lead to a bit of unsteady ground between Mata Nui and the Glatorian, on one hand their upset because they now have these powers the Lord's went mad from, from Mata Nui and the Ignika

And on the other hand they have to trust Mata Nui because he KNOWS how to control them so they don't become like the Elemental Lords (aka Mata teaching them how to control the elements and the elements don't control them and to not fear their power) and confront their fears

I had a very silly idea for Kopaka to sweat to death any time he visited Po-Koro during the day but refuse to take off any of his layers. He's got at least one more shirt on under the jacket and he will NOT take anything off he has his PRIDE. Meanwhile when Pohatu visits Ko-Koro he makes one mention that he's a little chilly and Kopaka is insisting that Pohatu take his layers, he's the Toa of Ice he's not cold it's fine don't mention it
