Fantasy
────────────────────────────
I watched this movie and whined....
────────────────────────────
Sorry for the English
(thanks for the GIF)
A crowd of people, without looking at you, avoided your figure. It wasn't the beginning of some main character or just an outcast with strange thoughts. It was all a chain. Infinite and the same. It could not have occurred to you that such a meager life could turn into a mess with a pile of garbage and incomprehensible things in an instant. You can't count work or personal relationships here. No, no. Not at all. Your eyes have been twitching with nerves and bewilderment for the second day. You couldn't tell exactly what was happening, you just acted on the voice in your head, suppressing the panic.
"So, you said you saved the planet and your friend from these creatures by sacrificing yourself?"
"That's right, of course, there were many more things, but I see that you don't really get into the essence" The deep voice of the symbiote dissipated in your head, causing goosebumps and unfamiliar sensations.
"Great, and you've chosen me for this task?" You shook your head in disappointment, gradually realizing what else was to happen in your life. Venom hummed in agreement, continuing to mumble something. "Hey, can you stop? Your 'gut' thinking doesn't allow me to concentrate." Your displeasure made Venom chuckle as if he were a villain with his own evil plans.
"You have nothing in your head except for the words 'What the hell'" A clicking sound in your ears, making you clench your shoulders and give free rein to goosebumps ── "We need a temporary alliance, you know?"
You nodded silently as you continued to walk forward, even though there was no specific route. And you didn't even know how much you had to overcome, and with an alien in your head. But his words ended abruptly, as if they had never happened.
Peace and quiet enveloped your brain.
You've finally sighed.
"I'm still here"
You rolled your eyes ── "Don't remind me."
"Have to"
The symbiote's voice has not been so active since the moment you had it. Depressed, but trying to keep his spirits. There was no anger or resentment in him. It's just Tosca. Strong and sick.
"Do you miss him?" You asked Venom cautiously, biting your lip. Perhaps you didn't know what it was like to sacrifice yourself for someone you value the most. Do not be afraid of death, although it is inevitable. You do not understand, but you are trying to support a black creature that has settled in you for a while. You didn't know why. Ever since a certain "symbiosis" happened, your thoughts have not found a place for themselves. You thought you hated it, but you listened and agreed with his opinion anyway.
"Yes. Eddie is the best I've met on this planet. Although sometimes he acts like rotten, but I still appreciate him."
"How do we find 'your' Eddie? And how far away is it from us?" You straightened up excitedly, looking around and still waiting for a response from the Symbiote.
"I assume"
"Guess what?"
"The place where he should be now" Venom glanced at the window of the store where the Statue of Liberty stood. It dawned on you sharply from the realization.
"Hey, hey, hey, you don't think you're going to get there just like that, do you? I'm not that rich, I'm sorry."
"No, we don't need it, I can take us there without shoes" A mysterious rumble surrounded you. Suspicion grew.
"Do you even know what to do?"
"Don't worry, I'm an experienced traveler"
You swallowed. ─ "It didn't calm me down"
"We need a horse"
"What?"
It looks like you are in for a really eventful walk.

𝐂𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐕𝐒 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐞 (2)
╔══ ≪ ♠♢♠ ≫ ══╗
“You’re most definitely getting punched.”

The briefing for tonight’s plan began, unsurprisingly, with Marius. Who else could it be? He nonchalantly propped his face against his hand. Honestly, he might as well have been sipping juice while casually adding, "Oh, and he'll probably dropkick you too, no big deal."
You, who sat around the table with Teo and Christy, raised your hand like a diligent student.
"A question!”
“Ask away.”
“You said 'most definitely,' so it isn’t certain. What’s the percentage like?"
Marius, who sat in front of all of you, crossed his arms with a look of contemplation. Since it was a secluded spot, away from the main dance venue, the music was distant. In fact, you could even hear him ponder, “hmm...”
“Ninety-nine-point nine percent.”
“Holy shit!” You couldn’t help but exclaim, but quickly regained your composure. "But only if he’s upset, right? Then, if I keep him entertained—"
"You'll probably get seven words out before his fist flies to your face—this is in the ideal scenario. Why do you think I instructed all the waiters to stay away from his table?”
No wonder I didn’t see any waiters serving their table this whole time!
“I won’t even get to say the introductory line like that! No, I’d be lucky if I even got any word out!”
"Are you seriously considering performing a magic show for them?"
“Well...”
You stared sadly at the small paper bouquet in your hand, crafted to match your idol's eye color and your favorite flower. It seemed that giving this to Aventurine was nothing more than a pipe dream.
“What’s wrong?” Marius tilted his head with an oblivious look on his face.
“Everything?! The magic show aside, going there just to get punched is—”
“So what? Just duck.”
“’Just duck,’ my ass!! Why didn’t you duck that night, huh?!”
“What?! Remind me again, who signed up for all of this?!”
As things were getting personal between you and Marius, Christy and Teo interrupted from the side.
“Guys, I don’t think we have time for this...”
"No, really! He always goes for the face, so it gets predictable after a while! The key is to keep calm!”
Of course, one of this was unlike the others.
Teo continued, “He throws slow punches, too. If it helps, just take a deep breath, focus on his fist, then duck!”
...A tad too cheerfully, if you might add.
No, on a closer look, there was something resembling pride in his face, as if he’d gone through a countless battle and won.
Ah, but Teo... you would know best, wouldn't you? Yet you still tried to reassure me...
You choked, stifling a sob.
Was Big Baddie such a godforsaken menace? What was Teo's superior doing? Ah, right, he got punched, too...
Then what about the manager’s manager?!
This question of yours would be answered later.
"...Besides, if he takes a swing at you, a commotion will naturally follow. Slipping it into his pocket then shouldn’t be any harder than slipping a Band-Aid into someone's pocket mid-conversation? Or did I misjudge your abilities?”
Marius, who’d calmed down, explained. Deep cobalt blue eyes met yours, a glimmer of trust shining within.
“...! Marius... No, I-I’ll do it! If he punches me, I’ll duck!”
And that was how they encouraged you to get punched by Big Baddie.
“Well, just to be safe, here you go.” Marius slid a silver tray toward you, with a neatly folded handkerchief on top of it. “At Primavera, we never compromise on quality. This tray is crafted from—...”
The handkerchief, in particular, caught your eyes. You opened it to see the embroidery of a familiar-looking flower, woven with purple, tosca, azure, and cyan threads. Despite the dim lighting, the colorful threads shimmered with iridescence, as if radiating light of their own.
“It can even deflect bullet—hey, are you listening to me?”
“Eh? Oh, sorry, yeah, so it can deflect bullet, huh?”
You were too preoccupied to notice how outrageous that was.
Marius sighed, before staring at the handkerchief in your hand.
“You like that?”
“Yeah, I mean, this embroidery...”
"I have tons at home, no thanks to a certain idiot. Don’t you dare lose it.”
This time, you caught the inconsistency in his words. But before you could retort, Marius went on.
“Anyway, that thing reflects light like crazy even in the dark. If you feel things are getting dangerous, give it a wave. You have a three-second head start.”
“Got it! Count to three and run!”
“No, absolutely do not run.” Marius cut in; the words ‘are-you-stupid’ written all across his face.
“...Ah.”
You also realized your mistake. The main dance venue was filled with crowds. You also hadn’t accounted those who surrounded Aventurine and Big Baddie’s table! It was easy to imagine what would happen if you were to run in such a scenario.
Perhaps due to the confused look on your face, Marius explained, “When the time comes, you might panic and attempt to escape as quickly as possible, but those are the last things you should do. Instead, stay calm. I’d say this is the most important part.”
You gulped—and also the hardest part!!
“Then, focus on the flow of the crowd and find a gap, break, or split in it. When you see the chance, step inside—not too slow, but not too fast, either. Hold your head high and walk with purpose. Unconsciously, people will make way for you.”
With a faint yet proud grin, Marius taught you how to slip past the crowd. He was probably—no, he was definitely flexing, but this time, you couldn’t argue.
You recalled how he, Tasha, and Christy approached you, Teo, and the others. Naturally, Marius, being the first in line, was the first one you saw.
With languid steps, he effortlessly blended into the crowd, never once bumping into anyone. Despite blinding lights, or the darkness left by their absence, he never lost sight of his destination. His calm and composed demeanor masked any signs of tension or crisis.
It was definitely an impressive sight, not that you’d ever admit this out loud.
“Ooh! Marius is teaching you the technique! Congrats! He considers you one of us now!”
“Don’t worry! We got your back!”
Christy, the brunette with curly hair, winked and gave you a thumbs-up. You’d come to known her for her friendliness and easygoing nature. Teo also smiled and nodded.
That’s definitely reassuring...
“...No, actually, I’d prefer it if you stayed out of this.” Marius touted.
It was Teo’s time to shine.
“C’mon now, Marius. Since a commotion is bound to occur either way, you’ll need to do a lot of explaining later. Moreover, Lady Theia is coming to visit today. That’s where we’ll come in. You and I were in the bar...”
As Teo showed his expertise in dealing with the grouchy manager, you whispered to Christy.
“Who’s this ‘Lady Theia’?”
“Uh... She’s our CEO...”
Christy’s expression turned awkward and somewhat uneasy. She didn’t seem to want to elaborate further.
“...I guess it can’t be helped.”
Meanwhile, Teo managed to convince Marius, albeit the latter still seemed dissatisfied.
At the same time, Tasha, the tall waitress with straight black hair, returned to your table. She gave you an apologetic look and handed Marius a sheet of paper, which he promptly passed to you.
“Anyway, before we start, I’d like you to sign this.” Marius sternly stated while staring straight at you.
You stared at the words written in the paper and realized that it was a Non-Disclosure Agreement. Basically, you weren’t to disclose any of tonight’s events to anyone.
“Marius, you...!” Christy, who peeked at the paper from the side, sighed in exasperation.
“We’re basically trusting a random stranger with our internal issue, and I’d rather not have it hanging over my head for the foreseeable future.”
“—No, I get it. Does anyone have a pen?” You interjected before they could start quarrelling.
You thought Marius was just doing his job. Not only was he upholding the prestige of Primavera, but he was also covering his bases to prevent negative rumors and avoid being blackmailed later.
As you signed the paper under Marius’ watchful gaze, he spoke.
“...In accordance with clause three, you will be compensated for your efforts. This situation arose due to my oversight, and I wish to make amends by providing appropriate compensation.”
“Now, ask him for free meals every time you visit from here on out!”
With fiery eyes, Christy smacked you on the back.
“Ouch...”
“Emphasizes on 'appropriate compensation,'” Marius scowled.
Yeah, thought so...
Still, you had to make it count.
When you told Marius about the reward you sought, his deep-blue eyes widened slightly for a moment.
“...Understood. I’ll grant it once and if you successfully complete your duty. Pass me the pen.”
Then, Marius signed the NDA with flourish.
🂡 🂠 🂣 🂠
Afterward, courtesy of Christy, you heard about the incident that involved the waiter, Judith.
The incident took place on the exclusive floor of Primavera, which only accepted reservations. his eagerness to flaunt his wealth. From what you’d heard, the difference between the main dance venue you usually visited and the exclusive floor was like night and day. Moreover, it came with a host of pretentious rules: strict dress codes, no reporters, journalists, or cameras allowed, personal servants only, and so on.
Since it cost an arm and a leg, booking a table was naturally a status symbol. Only the crème de la crème went there—old money, nouveau riche, celebrities, and influential figures—including Big Baddie. Apparently, Big Baddie usually would only dine there—which made sense, given his eagerness to flaunt his wealth.
The case itself was resolved peacefully, with both parties admitting fault. As such, the details weren’t made public.
Of course, the truth couldn’t be farther than that.
Unlike the main dance venue, on the exclusive floor, only the faint, almost inaudible clinking of silverware served as an accompaniment, as any other noises were frowned upon.
“—HOW DARE YOU?! Acting like a smartass now, bitch? You think I won’t remember what I said? You calling me senile?!”
“Eek... Marius, Marius...! You’re bleeding...!”
Amid the symphony of silence, Big Baddie’s bellow and Judith’s cries echoed as she clung to Marius.
Clink, clang, clang...
“Ahem.”
“Ugh...”
That night, even the crowds were unusually noisy. Purposeful and deliberate clattering of silverware against the porcelain plate rang in the background, accompanied by contemptuous, disdainful sounds directed at the ruckus.
“Marius, get a hold of yourself...!”
But no one made a move—not even the CEO of Primavera, who was present and conversing with the wealthy guests that night.
“He’s bleeding! Someone, please...! Call an ambulance...!”
Clink! Clang! Clang! Clang!
“I didn’t sign up for this!”
“Peace and quiet are too much to ask for, apparently!”
“Even a saloon offers a better service than this!”
“How unsightly.”
“Dear lord, take it outside!”
The rattling, clinking noises of expressed complaints and frustrations only grew louder as the gossiping murmurs became more heated. Only then did the CEO of Primavera stepped forward.
“—Is something the matter, Sir Billy Burnett?”
A cheerful, melodious voice that was off-tune with the overall atmosphere.
“Marius, how did things become such a mess?”
A question asked in a clueless, oblivious tone, yet unmistakably conveying, "How could you let things get to this point?"
“...My apologies, Lady Theia, this happened because—”
“—Lady Theia! Please help! This man...”
"Go on, tell her! Tell her everything you said, you lying skank!”
Perhaps provoked by Big Baddie, or driven by self-righteousness after seeing her friend wounded, Judith did exactly that.
"He said we deliberately messed up his order, but my colleagues can confirm that he specifically asked for that item!"
“Is that so?”
‘Serene.’
Such was the word Christy used to describe the CEO—Lady Theia’s—expression at that time.
"It seems that you have yet to understand your position."
If Judith made any mistake that night, it was believing the CEO would take her side.
"In Primavera, the food, the drink, the music, the service, and the staff all exist for one purpose: to provide enjoyment to the guests. If a guest says 'black,' then it is black, and the same goes for the opposite. Yet, you dare to disregard a guest’s wish. Just now, you said that your colleagues will back you up on this?”
“I-I...”
It wasn’t even about who was right and who was wrong.
“Then, they’re all accomplices. Gather them here. They are to receive equal punishment. Sir Billy, deal with them as you see fit. Consider this an apology from Primavera."
“No...!”
“AHAHAHA! That look on your face! Absolutely fucking priceless! Now round them up!” Billy burst out laughing, cracking his fists.
“—If my staff behave unsatisfactorily, it is my responsibility as the manager for failing to properly educate them. The blame and any resulting punishment are mine to accept.”
A solemn, unwavering voice resounded in the air.
“Marius, no...!”
"Oh, is this lovely new recruit from your little village again, Marius?"
A voice filled with panic, and one completely the opposite of it.
“Stay the fuck out of this! You wanna play saint? Fine! How many colleagues does this bitch have? 20? 30?”
“With the addition of the new interns, there are approximately 75 staff members working at this branch.”
A serene, cheerful voice helpfully added from the side.
“Seventy-five punches, then! I’ll smash your head in!”
“Understood.”
Why didn’t Marius duck that night?
“If you back down halfway, your staff will make up for the rest!”
“...”
What about the manager’s manager?
“I shall bear witness and count. At Primavera, we do not offer apologies that are anything less than complete.”
“No... NOOO! I-i-it’s all my fault...! I beg of you...! It was my mistake, I misre—no, I lied, I lied! So, stop this! Please! Please stop! Don’t hurt him!”
In the end, Judith begged on her knees, crying.
Afterward, by a stroke of luck, Big Baddie was called away for an urgent meeting. Although Marius was spared from enduring 75 blows, he still faced consequences from the higher-ups, ultimately leading to Judith's resignation.
Ultimately, no justice was served.
🂥 🂠 🂧 🂠
You had always thought of it as odd.
When the twins stole from Big Baddie, Teo prepared to take the beating. Then Marius stepped forward to take the fall for him. The two readily tried to appease his wrath, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
But now you know why. What else could they do?
Their CEO and even the police refused to do anything about it. Even such a huge commotion was disguised as a case resolved peacefully, with both parties shaking hands and hugging each other.
It certainly wasn’t a solution, and it didn’t address the problem in the slightest. In the future, Big Baddie would surely cause more chaos, and someone else might end up bearing the brunt of it.
But at least, in that moment, someone else didn’t have to suffer.
The same went for your plan tonight.
In reality, what would returning Big Baddie’s wallet and phone even solve?
You’d just be delaying the siblings’ suffering. They wouldn’t suddenly become friends down the road, would they? Letting them endure something they shouldn't for one more night was simply unbearable.
Hence, this whole time, you racked your brain for a plan to put an end to Big Baddie’s atrocities, once and for all.
How to bring about the downfall of someone so high and mighty?
You thought long and hard, even when you were sitting on top of your idol’s lap.
Now, you felt like an idiot for doing so, when the answer was staring at you all along.

Green Lake Campsite Reference!
It's the green banner thing in the back. I think I see "Tosca" on the gold piece above the banner, which would be a reference to Lucevan le Stelle. I remember the gold award on the top shelf, but I don't remember from where. There is more going on here but my memory sucks. Of course we have Schneider's dress too.

Cardinality in DBMS Tosca
Understanding Cardinality in DBMS: A Guide for Tosca Users
In the world of Database Management Systems (DBMS), understanding the concept of cardinality is crucial for designing efficient and effective databases. Cardinality, in essence, refers to the uniqueness of data values contained in a column. When dealing with DBMS and testing automation tools like Tosca, a solid grasp of cardinality can significantly improve your database interactions and testing accuracy.
What is Cardinality?
Cardinality in DBMS describes the relationships between tables and the uniqueness of data values. It plays a pivotal role in database design and helps in defining the relationships between tables in a relational database. Cardinality is typically categorized into three types:
One-to-One (1:1): Each record in one table corresponds to one and only one record in another table. For example, in a school database, each student might have a unique student ID, linking them to a single record in the student details table.
One-to-Many (1:N): A single record in one table can be associated with multiple records in another table. For instance, a single teacher can teach multiple students. Therefore, the teacher's table will have a one-to-many relationship with the student's table.
Many-to-Many (N:M): Records in one table can be associated with multiple records in another table and vice versa. For example, students can enroll in multiple courses, and each course can have multiple students enrolled. This type of relationship is often managed through a junction table.
Importance of Cardinality in DBMS
Understanding cardinality is vital for several reasons:
Database Design: Properly defining relationships between tables ensures data integrity and efficient query performance. Misinterpreting cardinality can lead to redundant or inconsistent data.
Query Optimization: Knowing the cardinality helps in writing optimized SQL queries. For example, when joining tables, understanding the relationship between them can help you avoid unnecessary data duplication.
Data Integrity: Cardinality constraints ensure that the relationships between tables are maintained, preventing orphaned records and ensuring that data is consistently related across the database.
Cardinality and Tosca
Tosca, a popular test automation tool, relies heavily on database interactions for data-driven testing and validation. Understanding cardinality can enhance your ability to create robust and accurate tests in Tosca. Here's how:
Test Data Management: By understanding the relationships between different tables, you can ensure that your test data accurately reflects real-world scenarios. This leads to more reliable and meaningful test results.
Test Case Design: Knowledge of cardinality helps in designing test cases that cover all possible data relationships. For example, when testing a student enrollment system, you would need to consider one-to-many relationships to validate that each student can enroll in multiple courses correctly.
Efficient Query Writing: When creating automated tests that involve database queries, knowing the cardinality can help you write efficient and effective SQL statements, ensuring that your tests run smoothly and quickly.
Validation of Data Integrity: Automated tests in Tosca can include checks for data integrity based on cardinality rules. This ensures that the database maintains correct relationships and prevents issues like duplicate entries or orphaned records.
Conclusion
In the realm of DBMS and test automation with Tosca, understanding cardinality is more than just a theoretical concept—it's a practical necessity. It enhances your ability to design efficient databases, write optimized queries, and create robust automated tests. By mastering cardinality, you can ensure data integrity, improve performance, and deliver more reliable software solutions.
Ready to take your Tosca skills to the next level? Dive deep into the world of DBMS with a focus on cardinality, and unlock the full potential of your database testing and automation capabilities.

Admiral Necheyev *takes a sip of her drink*: You're unusually quiet tonight, Picard. I would have thought that the successful negotiations on Tamar III would've cheered you immensely. You're diplomatic skills have helped thwart a growing conflict in this sector. The Federation is very grateful.
Picard: They were ready. Enough blood has been spilled.
Admiral Necheyev: You aren't giving yourself enough credit, Jean-Luc.
Picard: I'm just... thinking about him.
Admiral Necheyev: About Q? Is that what's bothering you? He certainly put on a good show at the conference banquet.
Picard: That he did. Serenading me, accompanied by a full orchestra? It was supposed to be a dignified, respectable evening, not Q's rendition of La Tosca!
Admiral Necheyev:
Picard: Q's gone too far. And all in his effort to convince me to let him assist with the negotiations! It was humiliating to say the least.
Admiral Necheyev:
Picard: Why me? What does Q want from me?
Admiral Necheyev: I'm not very familiar with Q, but perhaps he has a crush on you.
Picard:
Admiral Necheyev: Crushes usually burn out after the've run their course.
Picard: Oh?
Admiral Necheyev: They're a fleeting fancy, a temporary phase. They mean nothing.
Picard:
Admiral Necheyev: I wouldn't take anything that Q does or says seriously.
Picard:
Admiral Necheyev: How long has he been pursuing you?
Picard: Oh, close to forty years.
Admiral Necheyev:
Picard:
Admiral Necheyev: Okay. I see.
*She pushes an opened bottle of Romulan ale towards him.*
Admiral Necheyev: Never mind.

Three operas Raphael would take you to (and three operas you would hit back at him with)
Theater, opera and ballet kids, I received a wonderful comment from AO3 user CuddlesWithCats and thought I cannot let it go to waste.
This is the comment (quoted here as received):
Operas I would take Real World Raphael to: (1) Tosca: The rather terrifying, lawful evil Bad Guy gets stabbed to death by the heroine just after he's made a bargain with the her. This is THE most satisfying moment in all of opera. Of course she and her part of the bargain die soon after. (2) Gounod's Faust, specifically the David McVicar 2004 production revived at ROH: There's a dark orgy ballet, which Mephistopheles observes in drag. Seems like it'd be a "wtf" experience. Unless dear daddy actually is into that sort of thing as has made him watch it on loop. (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/opera/10746526/Faust-Royal-Opera-House-review.html) (3) Gianni Schicchi: Lighthearted farce about greedy relatives wanting to forge a will to replace an everything-to-charity one. The "lovable scamp" forger takes advantage of the opportunity to make himself the inheritor of the major assets (because of a background love story). Ends with him asking the audience if it really was wrong (no!), and to forgive his condemned-to-hell soul. Law stuff + likeable doomed soul -stuff. If only Il Tabarro could be the last feature, in stead of the usual first, so the evening could end in a good old-fashioned murder in stead of this admittedly tooth-rotting fluff.
Operas Real World Raphael would take me to:
(1) Gonoud's Faust: A devil (in spite of the name he's just a generic devil, the name isn't even mentioned IIRC, the part is just named that) on stage making a deal for a soul, singing a badass villain aria, having fun and toying with people, one-upping everyone until the last few minutes, and even then it's for just one "extra" soul on top of the deal. (2) Lulu: Twelve-tone serialism should count as torture for us plebes, so that's one. The sexy title character lives The Good Life with little ups and downs (such as the deaths of her two husbands), being adored and rich and famous. After losing the stepfather/lover/benefactor/target of her obsession, who has supported her so far, her life becomes a downward spiral ending as a dead streetwalker. So that's two. Not a threat or reminder at all. (3) Götterdammerung: I mean, there has to be some Wagner here. I think he'd find the ultimate hero getting killed because of an amnesia potion hilarious, and Gods perishing because they had made a bad deal and tried repeatedly to cheat their way out of the consequences, delightful. Plus, almost 6 hours of Wagner would be torture to most people, but ha! I am not most people, it would just mean *two* intermissions for scandalous acts.

REJOICE! Eliana plot update!
*\O/**\O/**\O/*
"And you're sure this woman can help us?" Lily huffs, turning onto what feels like the thousandth flight of stairs.
Emma makes a noncommittal noise, barely even turning to face her. "Look, she's not me, but she's not bad at finding people. Especially the ones with... peculiarities. And she's less likely to be stolen away to another realm mid-search, anyway."
That is not exactly the reassurance she was looking for, but by then they seem to have arrived at their destination, so Lily can't really insist more. Emma stops in front of an apartment door that looks exactly like the others, and knocks on it with no trace of hesitation.
There are muffled footsteps coming from inside, the sound of the lock turning, then the door opens to reveal a young woman on the smaller side, staring at them with her eyebrows raised. "Emma Swan. If you're looking for my brother, you just missed him- he left after breakfast, the little leech."
"Actually, I was hoping to speak with you." Emma gestures towards her companion, who can't do anything but stand there awkwardly. "Lily, this is Eliana. Eliana, this is Lily. She's... Maleficent's daughter."
To her credit, Eliana doesn't seem all that shocked by this introduction Lily is still struggling to come to terms with. Rather, she appears pleasantly surprised; she regales Lily herself with a wide, sharp grin, something unreadable flashing through her eyes - they're a striking shade of purplish blue, peeking from under her dark curls like a guarded animal. "Ah, the dragon girl. So that's what it was. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"We have a favor to ask. Can we come in?"
Eliana shrugs and steps aside, giving them way inside before closing the door. Even the room they enter is as painfully normal as the rest of the building, with no trace of anything supernatural that might justify this visit - a scruffy-looking cat comes bounding off the couch as soon as they walk in, though their host immediately tries to wave her off. "Shoo, Tosca. It's not August. Leave the nice ladies alone."
That name rings a bell in Lily's mind, even if she can't quite place it. "August?" She whispers, half to Emma, half to herself.
It wasn't quiet enough for Eliana to miss it, apparently, because she turns to Lily with an amused look in her eyes. "That'd be my baby brother," she says, with exaggerated lightness. "If I'm not mistaken, your mother helped kidnap him."
Uh. So that was why it sounded familiar. Of course, she can't ever escape this magical new world she was apparently born into. "I would have expected someone like that not to allow me inside her house."
A shrug, not particularly troubled. "You're not your mother. If we were all holding grudges for the things our parents did, no one'd be able to hold a conversation. Am I right, Sheriff?"
That is clearly intended as a soft jab to Emma, who turns her eyes skyward before speaking, as if praying for patience. "That favor we're supposed to ask you might help Maleficent, too. Is that going to be a problem?"
"Is she still working for Rumpelstiltskin?"
"Not that I know of."
"Then ask away. What can I do for you ladies?"
Emma glances at Lily, who gives her a nod of confirmation. Whatever this is, she's too deep in to chicken out. "There's someone we want to find."
"Really?" Eliana arches an eyebrow, clearly surprised. "I thought you were the people finder in this town."
"That's exactly what I told her," Lily mutters, earning herself a nudge that makes her feel like they're dumb teenage girls again.
"This is not just your average guy we're looking for," Emma continues, undeterred. "And I'm not sure what Maleficent told him about my family, so I think it's best if I don't barge in first thing until we know that he won't burn us to a crisp. You were the next best option."
"Flattering. So who am I supposed to look for, again?"
That is Lily's cue to step in. "My father."
Unexpectedly, Eliana's look softens at that, those bright, stunning eyes turning to her interlocutor. "Well, that I can certainly do," she says, and it's such a wondrous change in tone that Lily nearly balks at it, unable to react until the other has spoken again. "What do you know about him?"
That's easy. She can't mess that up too much - but why is she that nervous to mess up all of a sudden, anyway? "Not a lot. He and my mother- they had both turned into dragons, when I was...conceived. They didn't know each other's name, nor face. Honestly, I wouldn't know where to start looking."
"A dragon shapeshifter? I see- now I understand why our sheriff thinks I might help."
"Sorry?"
Emma pulls a face, not quite annoyed but rather resigned. "She has what she calls a sixth sense for magic. Basically, it just means she can pick out the not entirely human guy in a crowd faster than I could."
"Don't sound so displeased about it. I can do other things, too, unfortunately." Eliana takes a thoughtful pause, twisting a coil of hair between her fingers. "But yes, she's right. This is exactly right up my alley."
Lily sucks in a sharp breath, a spark of tentative hope surging in her chest. "Wait, you can help? Really?"
"Why not? I'll need to speak to your mother, if she can avoid knocking me out- just to have a rough outline of the events, I dare say. And of course, you'll have to tell me more about what you know."
Then the young woman's smile grows in size, the corner of her dazzling purple eyes crinkling in genuine enthusiasm. "But of course, I'll help. It will be a pleasure to lend you a hand... Lily."

Happy Tosca Day!!! If you did pick a new recording to watch for the occasion, as you implied you might, which one was it, and how did you like it? :)
Happy (belated) Tosca day to you again!! Yes, I did pick a new-to-me recording to watch, and that was this movie with Franco Corelli:
youtube
Of course, the quality is not perfect, and filmmaking is not exactly genius (lots of one-takers), but I enjoyed myself quite a bit, and Corelli!Cavaradossi nearly had me in tears during E lucevan le stelle.

I have to watch an opera for my art course (which has nothing to do with performing arts at all, it’s a fucking graphic design class) and that means I am once again thinking about my Opera MutualTM. So. Uh. Do you wanna perform dark sorcery to switch our places temporarily cuz I think you’d enjoy this way more than I would
(Also this opera is called Tosca or something?? Do you know what that is? I feel like you’d know what that is)
Yeeeey I'm glad to be your Opera MutualTM <3 (weird that you're doing this for a graphic design class tho?? was the other opera thing also from there?)
I'm totally down for the dark sorcery!! Not at all related, are you interested in building stuff out of cardboard bc that's my current assignment :')
And yes, I do know Tosca! I don't really vibe with Puccini (the composer) too much. The plots of his operas kinda slap, I just personally don't like the music part 😭
But all my other opera friends like Tosca and I see people Toscaposting all the time, so I promise it's not gonna be bad!! I'm just not that into later Romantic period lmao
#i hope you have fun btw#again: the story kinda slaps#and i think as writers we may tend to give more weight to that?? at least i do when i watch opera and stuff#also Tosca is such a random opera to assign?? what is the point of it? i'm fascinated by this#the mutuals(tm)#not writing#ramblies#asks
