How do you imagine the evolution of the relation between Isabella and Ray in the humans world if she wasn't killed by the demon (but just severely hurt)?
I don't have a firm outline for them beyond a certain point since there's a number of other factors that could influence their interactions, but I'm open to a variety of outcomes from authors as long as Ray's allowed to ride out the turbulent storm of emotions he has over this rather than glancing over them for some schmaltzy sitcom scenario where he forgives her at the drop of a hat and is acting chummy with her (outside of short-form lighthearted comics).
Here's what I imagine happening in the immediate aftermath of them traveling to the human world (borrowing a bit from this ask of yours for this)
Even with a No Reward AU and not having to handle Emma's disappearance on top of everything else, I imagine he would initially be pretty numb to interacting with her for himself.
Above all else, he would be there to reassure his younger siblings that she'd be all right. She survived the attack from the head of the Grace Field farms, but it would take her a long time to recover and they would have to let her rest when she needed it.
But seeing the children she was willing to die for and being part of their family again would be healing for nearly everyone. He wouldn't want to rob her of the opportunity to reconcile with his siblings and walk further along the path of redemption because he wouldn't be there right now if his family hadn't given him the chance to do the same. Likewise, he wouldn't want to deny his siblings the opportunity to know their mother in a world that's kinder to all of them.
So he'd be supportive of them visiting her one on one or in small groups, even when they'd ask him if they were sure he was okay with it. They knew he was her spy for years and had a unique relationship with her, that he was familiar with an Isabella they had comparatively known only briefly. It might hurt seeing them interacting with her casually like nothing had happened.
For Emma and Norman, they might have an inkling of there being another layer to their relationship, but they wouldn't push him until he was ready to tell them himself.
Tumblr media
[From this ask:] I'm also someone who likes to overthink about this panel from chapter 174 and Norman's incorporation in it. It could easily be due to knowing Ray had a unique relationship with Isabella by virtue of being her spy for years…but why not throw more angst in with him being aware of the extra layer of gravity between the two as another reason for his knowing and somber expression here? (You could also extend this to Emma, but I focus on Norman just because we can see he's looking back at Ray whereas Emma's still looking in the general direction of Isabella). He had over a year in Lambda to reflect on his time at Grace Field and pore over all the oddities he noticed between Isabella and Ray but chalked up to other things at the time…and isn't that so incredibly like Ray to keep that kind of conflict and pain to himself, either to spare others or because he loathes pity. There's a sad fondness tinging the thought.
But he reaffirms that it's fine, brushes the sentiments off and states his relationship with her shouldn't dictate theirs.
Jessica, Matilda, Scarlet, and Sienna wouldn't push him on this either. If for some reason they were in possession of his note, they'd return it to him to let him know they were aware of its contents, but if not, they'd still let him know that they knew about their relationship and that Isabella kept his note all that time. A balance of wanting to advocate for her after everything she had done post-escape by presenting him with facts that he could interpret for himself while knowing it wouldn't magically mend everything (in the same way they couldn't seamlessly integrate into the lives of their biological children with a snap of their fingers).
This is how Ray ends up visiting Isabella at least once by himself while she's in a coma, watching her breathe with the help of machines. Up until the day of their reunion, he didn't hesitate to call her a monster after nearly two years of thinking she was dead because of the note he wrote as bait to get her in trouble with headquarters, a wry smile playing on his lips at the thought of her being considered a "good parent."
Tumblr media
(Chapter 169 Bonus Comic)
But now there she was, willing to die for them, to keep them safe. She lead the covert uprising against Peter Ratri among the sisters for over a year. That amounted to something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Chapter 174)
Yet despite what he said about holding no grudges in the immediate aftermath of Peter's suicide, he can't just let go of years of hypervigilance, of being constantly on edge to not show a hint of vulnerability lest it foil his meticulous, multiyear plan, and knowing what he represented to her after he shattered the blissful delusion she'd fallen into at Grace Field for five years. That fear and feeling of being small in her presence was etched into his memory, carved into his bones.
Now that he finally has a say in how their relationship should progress instead of being at her mercy, can rage at her until he's out of breath and be just as petty as she'd been, make her work and beg for his forgiveness to try to amend every cruelty she inflicted upon him, there's just…an emptiness he keeps coming back to. No matter what they did, he would never have an untainted childhood with her, and now that she's back in his life he's left to grieve that again.
I imagine he'd circle through that numbness, grief, anger, frustration, and envy (as stupid and pathetic as that last one in particular makes him feel, seeing his siblings being able to interact with her so easily, her carrying no extra baggage with them, the kind of relationship he was ashamed he ached for when he was at Grace Field) for some time as Isabella recovers and integrates back into their family, and if their biological connection hasn't been revealed already through some external force this is probably where he reaches out to someone (defaulting to Emma, Norman, Don, and/or Gilda) to talk about it, though whomever he speaks with they make it clear he's not obligated to forgive or interact with her.
For Isabella's part, she accepts whatever his feelings may be after having two years to reflect on how she treated him.
Tumblr media
(Chapter 177)
"I couldn't dote on you." Not because I was forbidden from favoring you beyond somehow sparing you from eventually being shipped out—as long as I produced the desired results, I could do as I wished—but because I couldn't separate the violence you were born out of from you as a person.
Her not making excuses for that could go a long way.
Eventually they do start speaking to each other regarding topics that are easier to broach, like the other children, gardening, cooking (I don't know if she started cooking once she became Grandma or if it would something entirely new to her in the human world since the farm system purposely stratified labor as another measure to prevent the sisters from revolting), before tackling their deeper rooted issues or discussing matters like the origins of the lullaby.

what if i told you that Norman almost certainly harbors a deep resentment and anger toward Isabella, one that festered so quietly he wasn’t even aware of it until he watched her bleed out on the grace field lawn

Shirai and Posuka's answers to fan questions: pt 2
Reminder that the English answers posted by the officials are machine translated, so there are some inconsistencies (like "About Never" being the auto translation for "TPN", some mess-ups between first and third person pronouns in the answer about Ayshe etc.)
Pt. 3 will be the final part!

Au where everything is the same but they kept this proposal. I wanted to see suspenders man (˘・_・˘)
Well I've been meaning to draw this for years now, finally got round to it! My take on the uniform designs; If they just didn't have to wear all white...
Tumblr media
If just they didn't have to wear all white in all occasions but death*
Black symbolising death (at least that's how I'd interpret it), the kids only being able to wear something different as a treat or to foreshadow an internal funeral in Isabella's mind + a hat to shelter from Him (or god, I guess. ) is a stunning decision I'll always praise
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Im also glad for the choice of architecture, use of candles and lanterns yet have futuristic technology. Even if it was a bit silly at first watch (you can have big ass screens and headphones but not a light switch? Quite funny)
Season 2 did us way too dirty but at least the boys got boots! I'm such a fan of season 1 boots choice and it's quite disappointing (but understandable) how the boys got a more stereotypical wear
Tumblr media
Sheesh. The manga really is better
They look a little...off ^ but I'm glad for the manga and the designs after grace field, they got something other than white that doesn't directly link to death
Cant really expect much if they're on the go though! That's for sure. Keeping their button ups was a great choice, too
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Norman tho.... Norman and his suit? It's so so so good. Makes him look older, matured and dependable. Business man through and throughout <( ̄︶ ̄)>
Compared to Barbara, Cislo and Vincent, he really does come across as Boss, leader and someone they really look up to (to a dangerous degree)
Keeping himself prim n proper to feed off their God and superiority complex towards him. Barbara doesn't exactly put much effort in her clothes, that explains her brash personality
He's subconsciously wearing black and white despite them having some clothes with colours. guilt? Lambda squad got tortured physically, chained to the wall (thank you S2 I guess) while he did not..
Norman depriving himself from some joy and keeping his image high. at least that's my takeಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ

Norman's Reason of Murder, Analysis
(Inclued Ray and Emma too but mainly Norman)
Norman decides he must kill the demons because it's the only way his family can survive when there's truly no Neverland to escape to. Those who insult hard on Norman for murder overlook this: Norman was dying, and before he died, he wanted to leave a world to live in for the people he valued most in life and for whom he had worked for years. He thought he had no other choice, he would bear the price of this murder, he should bear this burden. All of these come from the responsibility and sense of justice he has felt since childhood. Just like Ray decides he can take the burden of killing people when Minerva's first shelter is found. "I am ready to carry this burden."
Tumblr media
Because Ray has been carrying the burden of the truth for years. Emma was also ready to take on the burden of every child she encountered and the responsibility of her life. Even if Emma's failure meant the children would die, Emma did not consider failing. The burden Norman is trying to carry is the same as Emma and Ray, but unlike the two of them, Norman sees himself as deformed after Lambda. He thinks that no matter what he does, they will not accept him as his old, true self, but Ray was thinking almost the same. (Did i mention i love norray). Ray believed that he had no place with his family and that he had to die at the end of the 6-year plan because Ray think their family doesn't show him understood because Ray watched their siblings die for years and they might thought Ray's humanity was destroyed. But there wasn't a rule for humanity in that world. Ray had Emma by his side to shake him, but Norman didn't have Emma at first. I want to hug Emma, she needs to shake me too. Emma, on the other hand, could push herself up, her psychological endurance at a level I could never have imagined.
Tumblr media
Back at Norman, he was deathly afraid of ever hoping again, believing that his plans and dreams were destroyed forever so he afraid to trust Emma and Ray about Mujika, afraid to believe there was another world. He think, he dissapointed hard after this and all of his family die. Norman wasn't bad, Isabella wasn't bad, they never were. Because when all the information you have about the outside world is likely to be fake, when you have spent years surrounded by lies and the truth is hitting you like a slap in the face, you cannot learn to do something that society deems evil because you aren't learn "act evil for gain" If one sheep bites another while running through the meadows, will we call it bad? It's not the same as a murder in the world we live.
Tumblr media
In this panel Norman says : I hope in your next life, you enjoy life like a human.
They never carried like humans.
Norman get away too, too much suffering and try to create a world humans can live. Norman is right
Also
Tumblr media
They feel peace in this panel because they were accepted, they were each other and they feel incalculable trust for each other

What do you think would happen if Emma had been sent to lambda instead of Norman?
I like the tags on this art by @norman-ratri-truther:
#i cant tell what roleswap scenario would be interesting #Emma and Norman swap places in most ways. Emma wants to eliminate the demons / Norman wants peace OR #Emma goes to Lambda/Norman goes to Goldy Pond HOWEVER Emma still wants peace. and Norman still wants to eliminate the demons #like is their opposite views on demons more so a result of the things they experienced after leaving Grace Field? #or does it rely more heavily on just who they are and how they were raised AT Grace Field #would the experiments at Lambda be able to push Emma into wanting to kill the all the demons? #would meeting Yuugo/Lucas/everyone at Goldy Pond. would meeting Mujika/Sonju make Norman want peace? #i feel like it wouldn't. i think it would change things a lot but i feel like their initial goals could remain the same #i mean ultimately they fit perfectly in the spot of the story that they are in #but its fun to think abt #i just need to figure out how Ray would be changed. i thought abt it too much in the context of Norman and Emma (via @polychromatiica)
#possibly the most interesting direction I’ve seen for this concept #like— Lambda!Emma will have to face moral crises and quandaries that canon!Emma never did #but I don’t think that would be enough to break her idealism (it didn’t really break Norman’s either) #an Emma whose ‘nobody can die’ philosophy and leadership is genuinely challenged?? that’s terrifying to me #an Emma who has to decide whether or not to ‘mercy-kill’ the mass production children— but she’d definitely make that a group decision #in that way she’s healthier than Norman but also crueler and this idea is INSANE #and Goldy Pond!Norman will confront a wider range of demons—Sonju and Mujika but also the corrupt GP aristocrats #he wouldn’t hesitate to go for the kill with Leuvis #and he’d still be surrounded by kids who hate demons and have suffered because of them #BUT he’d have a far healthier adult figure in Lucas (if not Yugo) then he ever had in canon #and he wouldn’t be nearly as much of a ‘savior’ figure this time around #so there’s all sorts of ambiguity with that #and RAYYYYY #a Ray who escapes with Norman not Emma? #he definitely still gets better mentally but it would look so different!! #because I don’t think a Ray who escapes with Norman has been ‘shocked’ in the same way that canon!Ray has #because Ray already respected Norman as the ‘best’ of them #and without Emma’s victory allowing him to fall for the ferocious joy and surprise of her perspective he wouldn’t change as much or as fast #because ‘you don’t have to give up’ comes from Norman but Ray needed Emma to pull him out of his mindset #Emma expands Ray’s world and Norman transforms it (via @esthelle-wanders)
#LOVE THE IDEA OF THIS AU SO MUCH!!!! #it would be such poetic/narrative justice if they went through each others experiences with their respective worldviews still in tact #i can imagine Emma seeing her worldview justified because both human researchers AND demons are at Lambda #so both are equally capable of being human/horrible #while Norman has a much more hostile view of Yuugo like he originally had with wanting to leave Ray behind #it would be so interesting if Emma's mentality while seeing Yuugo suffer was “we have to save him with the kindness he never got but we did” #while Norman and Ray's would be “being kind didn't save the one person who wanted to save everyone so why should we save him?” #it would be SO interesting for Ray and Norman to have a more selfish/grounded perspective in Goldy Pond #prioritizing the info on Minerva and getting out to save their own family and not risking their survival for someone else's (via @graphx)
I'd probably opt for a nature-based perspective, even though with Emma and Norman switching stances along with their roles there'd still be a difference in how they interact with the people around them. This is something that would crop up in a Lambda Ray AU too, but neither he nor Emma would let the Lambda kids elevate them to the level of a god. There's less distance and more communication, even if they opt to keep the secret of suffering from Lambda illness.
What kind of seals it for me is Norman being the most ruthless out of the trio (he gets it from his mother) in addition to him having the most rigid, black-and-white morality. I talk about this a bit here too, but he's prone to placing those he loves on pedestals. It's why he's so devastated and angry when he discovers the truth about Isabella and Grace Field and when he discerns Ray is the traitor. He would have been content to sacrifice Ray if Emma hadn't interfered, even if he would have regretted it later, because Ray had firmly slotted himself as an enemy in his mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Chapter 4 | Chapter 14)
Emma's perceived death further fuels his loathing for demons and enshrines her atop the pedestal he's placed her on, but now in even more of an ethereal way. Her ideals were just, befitting of one filled with a wellspring of benevolence, and in a kinder world they would have been the moral underpinning of the universe.
But the world they find themselves in is far from that, and surely her ideals wouldn't extend to demons, not even ones that seem as human as Sonju and Mujika. While it would be foolish to not take advantage of the help they offer, in the end, it isn't worth the risk, and Sonju says as much.
Tumblr media
(Chapter 46)
It's more pragmatic to extend Emma's kindness and understanding toward fellow humans like Yuugo. Even if Norman and Ray would be much more quick to cut their losses on this or with anyone who established themselves as a threat to their family if push came to shove (and they would have a back-up plan before approaching him), there's still the possibility of appealing to their shared hatred of the demons and uniting over that.
Also unlike in a Lambda Ray AU, I think Ayshe's father would be alive, and he and Ayshe would be aiding Emma in her cause, if not the whole group of scrapped demon followers of Minerva that Shirai originally wanted to include.

so.. i have a lambda lanni and thoma au (ik, it makes no sense)..
title is taken from BRUTUS lmao (so i’ll drive this dagger (into the heart of my enemy)) and an alternate title could be minerva and his liason
its still in the works but..
Yall i made them unhinged during the two years after the experiments and torture (they tried to escape more than ten times and actually have gotten peter critically injured)
Like they actually are batshit insane.
You know the people working at lambda? scientists, guards, ect.
Well.. when it was destroyed.. the two of them decided to have their fun (context: it was definitely not fun)
Lanni (now half blind and with a huge cut across his neck) has vincent and some others concoct some acid, while Thoma has the surviving employees have a fight to the death with the so called promise that whoever finishes gets to see another day.
no he has them drowned in acid while lanni’s full on joker cackling and spinning a knife in hand.
Hes just extremely happy to see them scream :D
and peter is royally pissed. hes just like : who are these two mentally ill nine year olds to KILL my employees?? hello?? these rats managed to explode lambda and kill them too?? ?? (stay mad peter we slayed (and we’ll slay you next) <3 -thoma)
gonna draw art of the goobers in canon meeting this au but i will apologize for lanni’s hair in advance💔
