[Design feedback on Tony Kushner's web page design given via email on September 27, 2008 at 2:38pm]

▪️I see why you did the "08", "07", "06" with just the last two digits but you may want to add the 2008 for those that are just stupid. I know it says the year under the issues, but people are just dumb. I have enclosed an idea of a potential treatment

▪️I would also suggest the addition of a breadcrumb, its an indicator where you are on the site. I have included that in my suggested layout revision also.

▪️I would shift the donation to the bottom of the page its awkward being at the top. esp on the first page. I just got to this section and you have your hand out already it seems in appropriate.

▪️note the "share your favorite" opens the pandora box for another form element page

▪️I added the years at the top of the page too if they don't have too many years that might be a good alternative to "older" issues. You can just bold the issues that are on the page your on and underline the rest showing that there are links to other years.

▪️What happens when you click "view" or "download" in the grey header at the top of the page? Does is show the current issue, that is a little confusing. If it is instructional you may want to treat the copy differently.

Event Calendar

▪️I would consider the use of breadcrumbs on this page too

▪️I know you have a very grey palette but the hierarchy of the header versus the body copy isn't totally clear. I would try to knock out "ongoing activities" so its clear that everything in that bar is ongoing, there are several ways you can do that. Darken the grey, left justify the copy, or make it bigger to fill the box so it take more ownership of the space

▪️The right side of the page is not clear that they are "May Events" you may want to either move your sub nav "may", june", "july" over so the may falls in the blue box, secondarily you may want to add a header that says "May Events" at the bottom of the section you may want to put a link on the bottom right to "more May events" so the page isn't too scrolly.

▪️Do you have a thing against line breaks I have added some horizontal lines to break up the information a little bit more. a problem I am having scanning it, is isn't hierarchied well, which makes it hard to visually scan

▪️the grey on white in the on going events its a little hard to read I would really consider going with black

General Note

▪️You need to have a stronger top of the page lock up for this content that is off the homepage, right now you have information jumping all over the place you really need to have a consistent lock up so the user isn't confused moving from page to page.

▪️My previous suggestion of adding breadcrumbs would help with consistency but also your placement of headers and even your color treatments  should not jump around so much. ie if  dark grey is the header color for the publication section every section of publications should have the grey header. If all of the calendar is that teal color all calendar pages should have that teal header.

▪️But please do a consistent header for each section no matter if they have their own special type treatment. There is nothing wrong with redundancy but you need to have consistency when navigating the page are the user will be confused. A good exercise is to drag all of the jpegs of your flats to preview and scroll thru them seem which content is jumping around from page to page. In a good design you don't want a lot of that. The only major changes should be coming in the body of the page but not in the footer and headers of the page.

[Afterwords: I was oscillating on whether I should share this email or not, but then I thought about the fact that I am a multi-faceted individual and my interactions aren't always just limited to romantic or plutonic relationships, sometimes I take on more of a teacherly role. By this time I had designed dozens of websites, and had been the business manager for an interactive department at a boutique ad agency, I had a good grasp on web page design and could easily advise a bourgeoning designer.

What I love best is my feedback is even, and not attacking the designer but giving my opinions on how to make the designs stronger. I will have to admit, it was actually exciting for me, because I was taking on a more creative director role. In an ad agency there is a hierarchy to a design team, the creative director usually oversees an art director and a copywriter.

The AD and CW will drive the content and design and the CD will just make sure it all makes sense and is on brand for the client, taking in all the information they may have from direct client meetings, et al. It's a more advisory role. Thats what I felt like I was doing here with Tony, taking on an advisory role to his design. Unlike an agency, my feedback was voluntary, he could take what I said or not, I would never usually see revised flats unless he got stuck again.

Also the comments all make sense even without having the actual flats to look at. I am really trying to relay my thought process, and what I feel a user will experience as they navigate the page, something called usability. It just reminds me of how good I was at this kind of work, and albeit website design would move to a more template based application driven platform, I loved this period of time when an actual individual would design all the elements on a page.

I think I am understating how much I loved website design. I would sometimes just design pages for shits and giggles, nothing that would ever get programmed, but because I loved the challenge of taking someone else's page and figuring out another way to execute it creatively. I remember sometimes being in front of my computer for twelve hours straight coding a page, trying to get everything right. Hand coding was just so relaxing for me, I probably would have made a good engineer if I kept at it, but then like so many things I begin to loose interest.

I love that Tony felt that I was enough of an expert in this to approach about feedback, I am pretty sure I put more than ten thousand hours into this at this point. I would get so frustrated with clients who didn't really understand the depths of my skills, and how much backend work I put into their pages, some of which stood up beautifully decades later.

Now I need to find a visual to go with this essay, what exactly can show something that you don't necessarily photograph while you're doing it? Now that will be the challenge, won't it?]

The Sun Never Dims

It was mid-summer. The sun rose early and set late. The chilly nights became mild cooldowns between the hot days. The lord of hot weather, the scorching Sun, showed no mercy as it moved across the sky on its heavenly path.

The Golden Army was exhausted. The heat sapped the energy of even the fittest bros like a sponge, soaking up every last drop of strength.

However, heroes walked among them.

The waterboys did their best to hydrate and cool the team, ensuring the Golden Army could perform in its former glory again. Nate, Nils, Trevor, Morales, Robert, Mack and the others worked tirelessly, serving ice-cold, fresh drinks to the bros.

But the heat wave persisted. The dry south wind, Notus, constantly blew its stifling, heat-vibrating air.

“I feel like tomatoes on a cheese grater,” Franco thought one day, feeling the increased strain on his energy levels.

Beyond his morning jogs, the late afternoon workouts really tested his endurance. Sweat flowed down his body in streams even before the workout began. Although his tanned skin could withstand the sun well, the heat was really wearing him down.

“How can you even endure this warm weather in black attire?! In rubber!” he turned to 090, who was standing nearby. 090’s expression remained completely still. His face showed no sign of feeling truly hot. The only telltale sign was the sweat glistening at the base of his hair.

“It is completely fine to feel hot, Franco.” 090 answered. “Drones are trained really well to endure even the most extreme conditions in our designated uniform. Feeling hot is merely a mindset. Our mindset is built around being a drone, and therefore no other feelings have a place.”

Franco looked at the drone in confusion, sweat dripping down his face. “What?!”

“Temperature is only a number. Feeling the heat is just an image in the brain. You change your way of thinking, you will feel the heat less.” 090 summarized.

“Oh, no, no! You’re not going to tell me that everything is decided in my brain, right? Even though you’re probably right, I won’t suffer less now...” Franco said, dejected.

090 didn’t said anything for a minute.

Then, the drone spoke: “Franco, since your mindset isn’t calibrated to the drone model, traditional methods must be used. You may join 090 on the sailboat of the Golden Army. The breeze of the sea will help cool you down a bit.”

Franco’s eyes widened with excitement.

“Really? On the sea? What a delightful idea, 090! I’m sure, sailing on the open sea will help me refresh.”

“Affirmative. Let’s proceed then.” 090 ended the conversation and headed toward the shores. Franco followed him.

“Pull the left rope and hold it. We'll turn the ship 30 degrees to the right.” 090 said, as they raced on the back of the waves on the sailboat. Franco followed the instructions the drone gave, and the boat soared across the water’s surface.

“Ahaha, this is awesome, 090!” laughed Franco, as the the cool sea breeze swept past his outstretched arms.

“That is an optimal outcome.” 090 smiled.

“Wait, bro. I have an idea.” Franco suddenly let go of the ropes. “Can you stop the ship?”

“Affirmative.” 090 said, and slowed down the watercraft. Soon, the sailboat rocked alone on the sparkling sea, under the wide sky and the bright sun.

“Franco, what are you doing?” the drone asked, as it noticed Franco removing his golden cleats and knee socks.

“Haha, cooling down a bit. You will see.” Franco winked, then with a sudden turn, he jumped up, threw himself over the railing, and landed with a huge splash in the sea.

The water rippled and bubbled as Franco's head rose above the surface. He threw his head back, his brown wet hair slicking back, dripping.

“Whoooa, this is really refreshing! Come on, 090, bro! Enjoy the water too!” he called the drone.

“Negative. 090 doesn’t require additional cooling, and exposure to salt water could damage the uniform’s structure.” the drone answered.

“Aww, comm’on bro! It is really nice here! Besides, you had the initial idea.” Franco called out.

A blink of hesitation flashed through the drone’s face. A bit of uncertainty. Franco knew, this was the signal, he was waiting for.

In an instant, two strong arms grabbed the drone’s ankle. Before 090 could react, Franco had already pulled him off the sailboat.

“#94, this is dangerous. We can’t left the ship without…” 090 began, but couldn’t finish the sentence as its head was suddenly submerged in water.

“Don’t worry, 090! We will take care of the boat! Don’t fear anything, just enjoy the water! It feels nice, right?” Franco called out, laughing as he swam in the cool sea.

090's gaze was like stone itself. Its expression was unwavering, which made Franco feel a twinge of uncertainty.

“Franco. Don’t you dare to pull a captain off his ship. Don’t do that again.”

But then, the drone’s hard expression softened slightly, and the its face turned into a half-smile.

“But you were right. The water is indeed very pleasant.”

Franco’s face also lit up with a bright smile.

“Got it, bror! Now let’s enjoy the water.”

And so, the two of them took a long, relaxing swim in the sea, enjoying the cool waters and the peaceful afternoon.

scent: rosa has always had a sensitive nose with fragrances, so she's always stuck with a few signature perfumes. Her chosen few are, chanel coco mademoiselle,  calvin klein euphoria, parfums de marly paris. 

outfits: rosa’s big three for her outfits are, any type of skirts (preferably a miniskirt), low rise jeans and boots/platforms. rosa always tries to look her best and be presentable and she's honestly slightly obsessed with shopping, so she has a large wardrobe, not just from shopping but also from sponsors/modeling. If she's going for comfort, she likes to wear mom jeans, sweatpants, jean or cloth shorts, fleece pullovers, hoodies, sweaters, cardigans etc. For everyday clothing, she likes wearing jeans, skirts, baby tees, button down cropped blouses, long sleeves, sundresses. For special occasions, she likes wearing shorter dresses with tights, or slacks with corset tops.  

accessories: rosa mostly accessories with bags, sunglasses/non prescription glasses, jewelry, and headwear. Such as, headbands, hair clips and pins, baseball caps, berets, bucket hats. She likes including ear muffs, scarves, leg and arm warmers. She’s very creative with wearing accessories but it really all just depends on her outfit. She loves bags like she has a large collection of them, mostly prada, coach and christian dior bags. With her larger bags she likes having cute little keychains addons, and with her smaller bags she likes tying bows and having smaller keychains on them. She also loves getting her nails done, she prefers when they are short and she likes almond nails the most. 

jewelry: she enjoys both silver and gold but mostly leans into gold. Again it really depends on the outfit she is wearing. She doesn't like overusing jewelry and having a lot on at a time, especially with her everyday life. She likes having a few bracelets and a thin watch on, a few rings and of course a necklace and her earrings. She has a lot of different types of rings, mostly vintage ones. makeup: rosa isn't the biggest fan of having makeup on, especially on her face because it makes her feel uncomfortable. She's a big fan of curling her eyelashes and using mascara, and eyeliner (on her waterline as well) . rosalie hughes was born on a beautiful day in orlando florida 

initially ellen and jim were told by the doctors that rosalie was going to be a boy, and it wasn't until late in the pregnancy when the doctors realized that they were wrong. 

the family were extremely happy to be having a girl though, especially quinn! 

growing up rosalie was very much a daddy’s and mommy’s girl, she was very attached to her parents, never wanting to be away from them. 

when rosa was 5 she was put in ballet and she continued to dance all the way until she was 15, ballet, jazz, contemporary and modern. 

rosa was introduced to modeling when she was 14 

but when she was 8 and until she was 14 she played hockey, but she stopped because she wanted to focus on modeling and acting 

rosa found her love for fashion designing when she was 15, through modeling and acting 

when she was 13 rosa made her debut in acting as a main character in stranger things season one, playing the younger sister of steve harrington 

through middle school and highschool she was apart of her theater club

rosa skipped a year in highschool so she graduated the same year as jack 

in the summer of 2019 rosa started filming for outer banks, acting as a main character for the show, playing as John B's younger sister. 

rosa moved to montreal when she was 18 for college, quickly became the top student in all of her classes

"Aghhhh! This final is frustrating!" Trevor screams, wringing his hands through his hair.

His voice echoes through the mostly empty classroom, making a few other students glance our way.

Even the person erasing the chalkboard—still covered with text about anatomy and vulnerable points for targeting—pauses, despite being all the way across the room.

Dozens of brown eyes fix on us, and I feel sweat sliding down the back of my neck.

Ahhhh, this is awkward…

“Nothing to see here, folks,” I chuckle awkwardly, waving my hands behind me.

Swiveling my head back to Trevor, I raise an eyebrow. “You really shouldn’t be making such a fuss. You know how others feel about you.”

Considering his origin, you’d think he’d at least try to keep a low profile. Aside from a few peculiarities, he looks like almost every other full-born Crystal Blossom citizen.

Pausing mid-thought, I narrow my eyes and glance off to the side.

…Then again, am I really one to talk, considering my own even more dubious origin? At least he isn’t a copy of someone else…

Trevor tilts his head just enough for one of his eyes—a faint light blue—to meet mine.

As I stare back, I notice the way water is starting to gather at the corners of his eyes.

I slump my shoulders, my mouth slightly open.

…Was I too harsh on him, perhaps?

“Well, excuse me! I’m about to possibly fail an exam that could get me kicked out of this school,” Trevor sighs, throwing both arms up.

Both his hands are heavily bandaged, red stains seeping through. The little skin visible beneath the sleeves of his coat shows long-healed, nasty scars.

“Between drills, language, mock fighting, battling monsters, math, literacy, science, and staying up late to keep watch,” Trevor begins counting off on his fingers, “this is driving me up the walls.”

I roll my eyes and shake my head slightly.

Here he goes again. I know he used to live somewhere else, but honestly, he makes it sound like Crystal Blossom City is some terrible place. It’s not only one of the safest cities, but we’re also the most efficient—and quite the intellectuals. Unlike some others.

“Those are very important though,” I counter. “After all, it did help improve our efficiency in battle, didn’t it?”

“I don’t see how pretending to be in a battle, stuck in a trench, keeping watch for a week straight is helpful.”

Trevor slumps further against the table. “And now I have to cram several hundred pages of textbooks on all things asura.”

Watching him from the side, I let out a small chuckle.

“There, there,” I say, patting his shoulder. “You’ll get through it.”

Trevor slumps over his desk, his short, messy brown hair cascading like a waterfall. From where I’m standing, I can see a few strands of natural yellow starting to peek out.

“Easy for you to say. All this magical nonsense is like a cakewalk to you.”

Brushing a strand of black hair behind my ear, I roll my eyes and slowly stand up from the bench.

“Asura is not just magical nonsense,” I huff, quickly gathering my books. “It’s a very important scientific study that impacts our everyday life.”

“Uh-huh.”

“I’m serious,” I say, staring at him with half-lidded eyes as I tilt my head slightly to one side.

Trevor doesn’t respond, just continues lounging against his table like he’s trying to melt into the wood.

Letting out a small huff, I roll my eyes. Shifting some of the books into one arm, I grab his arm and haul him up.

Trevor just lets me drag him along, barely fighting back as he follows behind me.

“It’s not as bad as you’re making it sound,” I say, adjusting my grip on the books while making sure my assigned coat is uncreased. “Don’t think of them as obstacles, but rather little roadblocks designed to help improve yourself.”

Spotting a tiny hair stuck to the fabric, I frown.

Ugh, I need to get all the lint out later. The uniform must be neat and trim when we march through town later. Where is my assigned cap? Did someone steal it from me when I wasn’t looking again?

“Right,” Trevor mumbles beside me as I lead him out of the classroom. “And what about all the other tests and ‘tests’? Pretty sure they’re still gonna happen after that.”

“Trust me,” I say. “But…”

Letting my words trail off, I briefly glance to the side.

We both pass through a dimly lit wooden hallway. All the curtains are drawn close, blocking out any light.

The acidic smell of bleach hangs in the air, mixed with an undercurrent of blood that can’t quite be masked. The metallic stench is so familiar, I’ve memorized it completely.

I let out a small hum as my eyes wanders over some of the posters. Most of them show a man in uniform, a sword, or other symbols.

“It’s not unending,” I continue. “We just need to survive until then—and pass that one final test.”

She's surprisingly skilled at cracking complex passwords, but she has a tendency to make a few silly mistakes, which leads her to doubt her encryption abilities. She sometimes whines and complains when faced with tedious tasks, such as frustratingly evaluations of the battlefield, dealing with people who make fun of her, and struggling with forgotten passwords.

Outside of her military work, she often dodges unwanted tasks by concocting elaborate schemes, frequently with Trevor's help, to avoid them. However, her plans often backfire, resulting in trouble for neglecting her duties. Moreover, she has a tendency to slack off during missions, especially when she becomes bored and her attention wanders to more exciting things. When she gets into trouble, especially when it involves people she has convinced to join her antics, she often tries to deflect responsibility by feigning innocence and shifting the blame onto others.

She possesses a fairly compassionate, laid-back disposition, which she only reveals to those closest to her. She's overconfident about her looks and seems unfazed by how people react to her inhuman features, yet she draws the line at absurd and unattainable beauty standards. She's deadly serious when needed and isn't afraid to intimidate people or berate individuals for doing something irrational or dangerous. She has a strong disdain for individuals who exhibit predatory behaviour, such as perverts and stalkers, and is unafraid to call them out and mock their actions mercilessly. She despises unnecessary secrecy and eugenics, opposing the lack of transparency and the racist underpinnings of genetic manipulation aimed at "improving" human populations.

She's quite gluttonous and becomes quickly hangry when she's extremely hungry and there's nothing to eat at the moment. She's an eavesdropper with a curious habit of inspecting, poking, probing, and even biting anything that piques her interest, including people. She grapples with touch starvation, feeling emotionally isolated from others, and deeply dislikes being overlooked or ignored by those around her. She harbours intense resentment towards her mother due to her neglectful behaviour and excessive focus on satisfying scientific curiosity, which comes at the expense of considering others' needs and forming meaningful connections with them. She’s appalled by her mother's callous disregard for the pain she inflicts on others as well as the secrecy surrounding their family's lineage and her status as an imperfect clone.

She seems to have a special connection with Ralf as they share a healthy and affectionate big brother-little sister dynamic. They understand and appreciate each other's thirst for having a good time, but Ralf also encourages Nadia to take her responsibilities seriously when needed. They love to engage in fun, lighthearted antics during missions, even if it risks alerting nearby enemies and putting themselves in harm's way. They often rope Tarma into their mischief, which he eagerly accepts, seemingly unfazed by the potential consequences. Nadia values how Ralf and Tarma accept her bubbly personality without judgment, unlike Eri and Tequila, who often try to dampen her spirits.

She's captivated by Tyra's makeup skills and willingly lets her experiment with new techniques, trusting her completely. Interestingly, she's surprised to discover that Tyra genuinely admires her, and this admiration fills her with pride because she has a deep-seated desire for respect and validation from others. Nadia also delights in hearing Walter enthusiastically share his zoology knowledge and praise Marco, finding his childlike excitement endearing.

She can't help but worry about Marco due to his overly serious nature and struggle to express his true emotions. Despite his frequent annoyance, she tries her best to lift his spirits, attempting to distract him from work. In particular, she enjoys taking Marco on shopping trips, hoping to help him relax and get to know him better on a personal level. Nadia is extremely close to MS-Alice, considering her a dear friend. She's always willing to lend a listening ear to MS-Alice's frustrations and doubts, and the two often engage in casual, meandering conversations. She finds the concept of a sentient AI fascinating, and MS-Alice's unique existence only adds to her appeal. Nadia also enjoys offering her fashion advice, encouraging her to explore different styles and discover what works best for her.

Backstory: Nadège Véronique Comtois was born on August 6, 2010 in Quimper, France. She was created in a test tube using advanced Martian cloning technology that was carefully salvaged during a confidential investigation, utilising the DNA of Ghyslaine Laëtitia Comtois, her clone mother and the founder of the Amadeus Syndicate, in an underground laboratory. Initially, Ghyslaine's interest in Nadège was rooted in scientific curiosity. She bioengineered certain biological abilities to give her a more combative edge, hoping to steer her down a militaristic path. She conducted psychological and sociological experiments to explore the similarities and differences between them. Ghyslaine would overfeed Nadège, only to discover that her daughter had an abnormal metabolism, making it challenging for her to gain weight. Unintentionally, Ghyslaine fueled Nadège's affection for junk food.

At age 7, Ghyslaine subjected Nadège to a disturbing and unethical experiment, forcibly inducing puberty and sterilising her daughter as part of a eugenics test. During this period, Nadège longed to experience the outside world and connect with her clone mother. Unfortunately, Ghyslaine's focus on research led her to neglect Nadège’s emotional needs. She treated her more like a guinea pig than a human being, providing minimal motherly comfort and attention.

At the age of 9, Ghyslaine decided it was time for Nadège to explore the outside world, which filled her clone daughter with excitement. Together, Nadège experienced her first-ever outing to a shopping district and explored several notable attractions in Quimper, including the Breton County Museum, the Fine Arts Museum, and the Faience Museum. She received Melekhai as a reward for being well-behaved, and she still holds onto the plushie very dearly since it was the first heartfelt gift her clone mother gave her. Her experience with the outside world sparked Nadège’s curiosity in modelling and the creative arts.

However, her mother had other plans. Ghyslaine envisioned Nadège following in her footsteps as a renowned scientist and eventual heir to the Amadeus Syndicate. To nurture this ambition, Ghyslaine frequently presented Nadège with books on biology and chemistry, encouraging her to delve into the sciences. She encouraged Nadège to cover the unusual features on her palms and upper back by wearing neoprene gloves and modest clothing in order to avoid drawing unnecessary attention or judgement from others.

By the age of 11, Nadège had become proficient in biology and chemistry, thanks to her mother's guidance. She began attending school after being previously homeschooled by Ghyslaine and other Amadeus Syndicate scientists. Although her school years were uneventful, Nadia occasionally faced bullying due to her intense interests in science, modelling, and the creative arts, as well as her unusual habit of wearing neoprene gloves to conceal her hand-eyes.

However, the bullying ceased after rumours circulated that she had intimidated and bitten a school bully by revealing her hidden snake fangs—a claim that was surprisingly true. Nadège’s clone mother was indifferent to her academic pursuits but drew a firm line at harming others and divulging confidential information about the Amadeus Syndicate. When Ghyslaine learned about this incident, she smacked her in the face, then confined her to a padded room with two blood bags and a fresh corpse for three hours. As dinnertime approached, Nadège's hunger grew, leading her to make the desperate decision to consume the contents of the blood bags and feed on the fresh corpse.

During her high school years, Nadège frequently skipped classes to go shopping, feeling that she already possessed a strong grasp of the material being taught in her courses. To avoid arousing suspicion about her exceptional intelligence, she intentionally performed poorly on a few tests. During this time, she experienced significant weight gain, which unfortunately led to bullying and negative comments about her appearance. However, she handled the situation with confidence and resilience, effectively standing up for herself and dismissing the hurtful remarks. After completing high school, she promptly enrolled in a two-year college art program, specialising in fashion drawing, before pursuing forensic science at the university level.

While pursuing her forensic studies at university, Nadège unexpectedly catapulted to fame as an e-celebrity supermodel, adopting the pseudonym Nadia Cassel. Driven by a passion for fashion and curiosity about the modelling world, she embarked on this venture independently, without management, and solely for her own enjoyment. Although her rise to fame was modest at best, she didn't mind because she revelled in the opportunity to be herself and try something new. As her university studies grew increasingly demanding and stressful, she found it challenging to balance her modelling career. Seeking support, she hired a model manager, who turned out to be unexpectedly kind and helpful. He broadened her knowledge of the fashion and modelling industries.

However, as her fame as an e-celeb supermodel grew, she started to attract unwanted attention from predatory individuals, which caused her significant distress. Her situation intensified when she inadvertently revealed her hand-eyes and exposed spine during a livestream, leading to an escalation of online harassment. After a deranged fan attempted to kidnap and sexually assault her, she empowered herself by obtaining a gun licence and rigorously training to use a firearm, becoming a fearsome markswoman.

The stress of her forensic studies and the pressures of being a supermodel took a toll on Nadia's mental health, leading to the development of OCD and bulimia nervosa. Her struggles with maintaining a strict diet, keeping her model-worthy figure, and need for control became overwhelming. Her modelling manager grew concerned about her unusually voracious appetite, fixation on her body weight, and increasing frustration when things didn't go as planned. He advised her to consider taking a step back from modelling or quitting altogether to focus on her well-being.

After a two-day break, Nadège made the decision to quit modelling as her mental health issues began to impact her studies. However, she kept the name of her e-celeb persona because she liked it. Although she has left the world of modeling, she remains in touch with her former modeling manager, and they have become good friends. After a long day of designing clothes, she recalls a disturbing nighttime incident in which she defended herself against a stalker who attempted to assault and cannibalise her in her own home. The attack forced her to involuntarily consume the stalker's blood when she bit his hand in self-defence, revealing a sadistic streak she never knew she possessed.

Once her forensic studies have been completed, Nadia prioritised fitness to maintain her physical well-being. After learning about the Regular Army’s vigorous exercise programs and their pressing need for information management positions, Nadia decided to enlist in their tactical operations. Following her military training, Ghyslaine granted Nadia permission to join the Amadeus Syndicate as a tactical scientist. She proved to be highly successful, making a name for herself as she pushed the boundaries of scientific understanding in biology and chemistry. Nadia supplied the Regular Army with gas masks, stable smoke bombs, and advocated for training cadets and recruits on the dangers of biological hazards.

While searching Ghyslaine's office for documents for a chemical experiment, she stumbled upon classified test results revealing her true nature: an imperfect clone. The discovery shook her to her core. Further investigation led her to her clone mother's journal, exposing a dark family legacy of illicit collaborations with government agencies, inhumane wildlife experimentation, and development of devastating bioweapons and malicious computer viruses. However, the most alarming information she uncovered was Ghyslaine's megalomaniacal plan for global domination and self-deification. Terrified and disgusted, she contemplated abandoning the Amadeus Syndicate, yet for mysterious reasons, she chose to stay and remain silent about their heinous actions.

During her work on a cure for a disease in South Africa, Nadia uncovered disturbing information during a private conversation with Oghma at lunchtime in a relatively unknown café: Ghyslaine had sexually assaulted Marco while he was injured. This traumatic event would have far-reaching consequences, severely straining relations between the Regular Army and the Amadeus Syndicate. Horrified by Ghyslaine's actions, she quietly ditched the Amadeus Syndicate, dedicating herself to defending Earth against global threats. She vaguely recalls attempting to poison Ghyslaine by lacing her bitter coffee with powdered cyanide, but the plan backfired when another scientist accidentally drank from the cup instead.

While she was still working for the Amadeus Syndicate, she was initially oblivious to Wysteria's existence because her mother kept it a secret, knowing that if she found out, she would strongly oppose it and potentially leave the organization much sooner than desired. Ghyslaine even went so far as to forbid her daughter from entering the Amadeus Mainframe Base, fully aware of her curiosity and the problems it could cause. However, once she discovered the confidential files detailing the heinous activities in her mother's office, she learned about Wysteria's existence. When she left the Amadeus Syndicate, she shared her findings about their crimes with the Regular Army high command, which led to a temporary conflict between the two organisations three months before the Great Morden War.

She eventually joined the S.P.A.R.R.O.W.S. after befriending Fio and earning a sliver of respect from Eri. This was due to her impressive performance as a potential agent, where she swiftly identified the chemical composition of a new illicit drug that had been baffling the Intelligence Agency and Regular Army scientists. She achieved this by obtaining crucial documents and conducting rigorous, ethical experiments. She also encrypted an extremely difficult password that the enemy was using to secure their illegal database, making it challenging for even the best codebreakers in the military to crack. Following the Survival Island Occupation, she provided crucial assistance to the hostages and kidnapped cadets who had been transformed into grotesque simian and mantis creatures, administering cures that successfully restored them to their human form.

Baby Doll was formed in 1999, by Mirano Midorikawa. (I am absolutely obessed with this woman. She’s insane.)  Baby Doll had a store in harajuku that was popular with punk people! The brand’s style is very glamorous, sexy and rebellious. It’s common to see Baby Doll’s pieces in street snaps.

Clothing in Castlevania: Yellow vs Purple

Every Castlevania character has their clothing color scheme. With Trevor, it was reds and browns and then later black, red, and gold. Sypha's was white and blue. Alucard's was black and gold. In the Official Artbook, it says this was done to preserve some elements of their original video game designs. We can see they kept this change with Richter (blue) and Maria (pink.)

But Annette's original design wore a mostly green dress with some yellow accents, not a yellow one. It's a harmless change, of course, and it might just be a bid to completely remake her character, but I do wonder if there's more significance at play here because green was not forgotten by Nocturne. Annette says her favorite color is green, which I think is a very tiny, subtle callback to her old design while independently preserving her new look.

At first, I thought it might be in reference to her ancestor god Ogun, but from what I can find, his sacred colors are green and black, red, or sometimes blue, according to different regions. (As far as I understand.) So the significance for Annette's clothing change isn't here.

The answer, I think, partially lies with Olrox.

Yellow in general is often regarded as a positive color, representing success, a bright future, happiness, and optimism. It's also used to represent the sun just about universally around the world. Definitely a good choice for a protagonist and it also holds significance for the season finale as the ending is the sun literally going dark.

As for Olrox, his clothing color scheme is purple, same as the video games. This also fits his background in Nocturne as purple was regarded as a divine color by the Aztecs, reserved for priests and the nobility. A good choice for a powerful vampire.

So while the positivity and representation of the sun may hold true for Annette's yellow, I also want to point out that yellow is the polar opposite of purple on the color wheel. Maybe the color scheme choices for Annette and Olrox were intended to play off each other with Richter as the fulcrum between the two: Olrox's purple as Richter's dark past and Annette's yellow as the possibility of a brighter future.

Ranking Alucard's Designs, Best to Worst

I've had a rough day and feel like being mean. These are just my opinions. Some rules:

I’m not counting each game a character appears in unless the design is noticeably different. I don’t count different art styles as a different design. I’m not counting the mobile game skins with two exceptions. For the most part it’s just him but purple. However, for your pleasure, joker Alucard:

Symphony of the Night

No surprise. It’s his most iconic design. He’s gorgeous. I enjoy how he wears a mixture of human clothes (the jacket) and more stereotypical vampire clothing like the cape. Same with warm colors with black and silver.

2. Grimoire of Souls

I love this design. I kiss it every night before I go to bed. I pray to it on Sundays. His waist makes me go feral. The only thing that bothers me is the brown lining. I wish they did something like the inside of his SotN jacket.

3. Moonlight Rhapsody – Outfit 3

I know absolutely nothing about this game. However, I love this skin. In my head when I imagine Alucard pre-Dracula betrayal this is it. The collar is a bit silly but I can look past it. I love the sleeves. The only critique I have is the brown and we’ll get to my feeling on Alucard wearing brown. But on this outfit, it’s not too bad.

4. Nocturne

They gave him his gay little neck ruffle back nature is healing. I wish they kept the details on the coat, but I’ll happily take the trade. I like his face.

5. The cancelled Dracula’s Curse movie concept art

I need to know what the context behind this would have been. The skirt, the pauldrons, his bloody hands, HIS HAIR PUSHED BACK. The only thing I dislike is his black nipple.

6. Aria and Dawn of Sorrow

I like the suit. The red pocket square is nice. I think it is a really interesting choice for it to be red rather than yellow as a callback. I love the choice to make him resemble Dracula pre-vampirism. All of his color has been drained and replaced with black and red. I go back and forth on if I hate or like (for symbolic reasons) his tie-neck ruffle thing. But none of that is my real problem with the design. His shoes are hideous. The heel is good.  He deserves a little heel. But what is going on with the white. It's ugly and going to be a bitch to keep clean. His slacks are too long. He’s a government agent, he can afford to go to a tailor.

7. Season 1 & 2 of the show

I dislike the shirt. I’m not a big fan of how they drew his face either. But I like how they gave him Trevor’s chest scar.

8. Captain N

He’s so rad. But to be honest, Captain N Alucard has a special place in my heart. I remember when this was the closest thing to an animated series Castlevania had. It being this high is purely my nostalgia. I highly recommend watching the episode. It is pure 90s camp.

9. Season 4 of the show

Whore.

10. Grimoire of Souls – Blood and Loyalty

I can’t find a better look at this skin. He’s apparently dressed as a samurai. I like this purely because his hair is up. I don’t see enough of that. (artists pls you’d be doing the world a service)

11. Lords of Shadow 2

The only thing I like about this design is the coat. The dark blue with gold looks really good. I don’t like the belts, but I can ignore them. My issue is the armor. I hate the bronze so much. The armor on one hip is ugly. The ONLY thing that salvages this crime is the fact this Alucard is wearing the highest heels. This looks like an MMO armor set.

12. Judgement

I only unironically like 2 of Judgement’s designs. This is not one of them. I dislike it purely because of how boring it is. They put Simon in bondage gear, gave Trevor a boob window, and made Sypha a Catholic magical girl. But Alucard has to be more modest than the actual child. They could have fun with this but didn't. The most interesting thing about this design is they made a vintage couch into his cape.

13. Dracula’s Curse

This is Alucard’s original design. It’s just your standard pop culture vampire. I like his little owl hair tufts.

14. Legends

I’m fine with changing up Alucard’s design. Hell, we got SotN because of changing it. However, why is he blue? It’s not this illustration either he is just light blue for some reason. I like the short hair. I think it’s a cute way to show this game takes place in the past. But again, purple? Really? His necktie is not doing it for me either. It looks really bad.

15. And finally, last and certainly least: Pachinko and Moonlight Rhapsody

The faces? Good. Hair? Good. But for some reason they made his coat brown. At LEAST for pachinko they had some gold gauntlets and brown gloves instead of his sleeve cuffs. But whatever fucked up person at Konami did the design for MR kept the sleeve cuffs. It’s not like there is the excuse of ‘Oh the inside is black’ because it’s yellow. Now you might be asking: Why is this the worst? I have similar issues with other designs. But here is the thing, they all did something new. This is just your standard SotN Alucard with a color palette change. It looks like a recolor skin but it’s the main one. It's a bad change but not one bad enough to not be boring.

Backstory/Role in the LOTR Films

Frerin was born in Erebor in the years following the Battle of the Five Armies, named after Thorin’s long-lost brother in honor of his father’s fallen kin. His mother, Bella Baggins, remained in Erebor after Thorin’s death, unable to return to the Shire with her heart shattered and her child to raise. Though she never fully embraced dwarven life, she ensured Frerin grew up knowing the courage and honor of his father’s people while also carrying the wit and cleverness of his hobbit heritage.

Growing up under King Dáin Ironfoot’s rule, Frerin always felt the weight of his lineage. He was the son of a legend, the heir to a name that commanded both reverence and sorrow. But he was also different.

Despite being raised among dwarves, many in Erebor viewed him with skepticism. His mother’s hobbit blood set him apart—his frame was slightly leaner, his movements more agile, and his instincts less rigid than those of a full-blooded dwarf. Some whispered that he lacked the endurance and battle-hardiness of his father, questioning if a half-hobbit could ever live up to the Oakenshield name.

Frerin heard every doubt, and instead of breaking under them, he let them fuel him. He trained harder, fought fiercer, and carried himself with the unshakable pride of his father. He refused to be seen as anything less than a true son of Erebor.

Balin, Thorin’s closest friend and trusted advisor, became like a second father to Frerin. He taught him wisdom and diplomacy, balancing out the fire and pride inherited from Thorin. Dwalin trained him in combat, ensuring he could wield both axe and sword with skill. Yet despite his prowess, Frerin often questioned himself—was he truly strong enough to live up to his father’s name, or would he, too, fall to ambition and tragedy?

His mother, ever the rebel, encouraged him to think beyond Erebor’s traditions. She told him tales of adventure, of her home in the Shire, and of her brother Bilbo, the hobbit who defied all expectations. Though Frerin loved his mother dearly, he sometimes struggled with her influence, torn between his dwarven duty and the restless spirit she had passed on to him.

As he came of age, Frerin sought to forge his own path. He traveled briefly with Balin to Moria, eager to help reclaim Khazad-dûm, but Balin sent him back before the expedition met its tragic fate. Frustrated, he returned to Erebor, feeling once again like a prisoner of his father’s shadow.

But fate had other plans. When the Council of Elrond gathered to decide the fate of the One Ring, Frerin was chosen to represent the dwarves in the Fellowship. Dáin, now an aging king, believed that the time had come for Erebor to stand with the Free Peoples, and Frerin, as Thorin’s son, was a symbol of that alliance.

Many in Erebor were reluctant to send him. Some still doubted him, questioning if a half-hobbit was the right choice to represent the dwarves. But Frerin saw this as his chance—not just to prove himself, but to show that he was more than his bloodline.

Among the Fellowship, Frerin quickly became a strong and charismatic presence. He was deeply loyal, forming a fast bond with Aragorn, seeing him as another leader burdened by the weight of a fallen lineage. He respected Legolas, though they often bickered due to dwarven-elven tensions, and found himself drawn to Boromir’s passion for his people, even if he worried about the man’s desperation.

His most complicated relationship, however, was with Frodo. As his cousin, Frodo was a reflection of the part of him tied to his mother—the side that valued peace, home, and quiet strength. At first, Frerin was skeptical of Frodo’s role, believing warriors should carry the burden of the Ring. But as they traveled, he came to respect his cousin’s resilience, seeing in him a kind of bravery different from his own.

Frerin fought fiercely at every turn, from the Mines of Moria, where he mourned the loss of Balin, to the Battle of Helm’s Deep, where he fought alongside Aragorn and Legolas to defend Rohan. Through every trial, he struggled with his identity—was he merely his father’s son, or could he carve his own legend?

As the War of the Ring came to a close, Frerin finally understood his path. He was not just the son of Thorin Oakenshield; he was his own person, a warrior of Erebor and a bridge between dwarves and the outside world.

After Sauron’s fall, Frerin returned to Erebor a hero, but rather than seek the throne, he chose to serve as Erebor’s ambassador to the new kingdoms of Men and Elves, ensuring that the alliances forged in war would not be forgotten. He carried his father’s name with honor, but in the end, he lived not for the past—but for the future.

Scout and Peter butt heads a lot

One time it could be because Peter ate the last of his snacks without asking, another could be that Scout had hidden something important from Peter

Whatever the reason is, they like to argue like an old married couple

If you were to ask him how they became friends, he would say; "I don't know. The conclusion I've come up with is that he just puts up with me."

Then Ray would say "No. I think I just basically picked him up like a stray cat and just adopted him from then on."

Not only does he have a heavy fascination with the Occult, he also studies heavily in other Supernatural entities

When Scout was told he was going to be a Great Uncle he couldn't believe it

But when Trevor and Phoebe where born it hit him hard and he got emotional

i haven't had any time to rewatch and formulate anything so we're coasting on vibes only. prepare for word vomit and canon divergences

started working for davenport industries after college, was friends with both brothers. he and douglas had a crush on each other, but never said anything since they were both still in the closet at the time.

then the incident with douglas faking his death happens.

in my version of canon, donald finds the kids after douglas' "funeral" because... idk, i just like it better. hurts more that way.

he doesn't tell adrien about them, but adrien figures out he's hiding something. combined with the grief over douglas (and adrien not believing he's dead, or thinking that donald had something to do with it because the brothers were fighting more just before it happened) they start drifting apart and fighting a lot.

adrien leaves the company at some point after this. i haven't figured out what he's up to in the space between here and the beginning of the show, but he pops back up at some point in the first two seasons (before the reveal that douglas is alive).

he's pissed (and hurt) that donald didn't tell him about abc because for god's sake donald, those are children and if you told me back then i'd at least have made an effort to treat them that way. it calls into question, for him, how much donald really trusted him. if donald ever trusted anybody but himself.

then he also has to find out that he was right -- douglas is alive. oh, yeah, and is also currently a villain. with another kid that is solely intended to help him get the other three back. that's a clusterfuck.

so much of this is just adrien going what the fuck davenport(s)

come season three (which i remember a little more of, yay) he hasn't forgiven either brother much for lying to him, but he can't fault the kids for that so he sticks around. he's sorta like the cool uncle.

he helps douglas sneak leo out of the hospital after his arm's crushed, and helps him work on the bionic arm. it's one of the first real opportunities they have to talk some things out.

rise of the secret soldiers- specific things, because there's a couple things here:

because adrien isn't bionic, he uses a pair of gauntlets he worked on pre-canon as a prototype and kept around. they're designed to absorb energy, so in practice they give him enhanced strength but he reworks them a bit (patterned after leo's bionics) so he can also generate laser spheres through nodes on the palms.

however, they have a limit to how much energy they can absorb before the user's body must take on some of the strain. krane overloads them, severely injuring adrien and putting him in the hospital (instead of donald).

everything else happens similarly to canon -- leo uses energy transference to save adrien, almost dies, the bionic soldiers save leo, etc. because of the gauntlets backfiring adrien now has scarring on his hands and experiences tremors / pain due to the nerve damage.

of course his response to this is i need to invent something better so he completely redesigns the gauntlets during season four / afterwards. the new design allows him to wear them all the time, disguised as simple bracelets when inactive.

other things about him:

not a power, but he can mimic voices. even if the voice is nowhere close to his. it's a disney show i don't care about logic, this is funnier /j. he and bree (since she has it but as an actual power) use it to prank the others by "switching" voices and leo is like "don't ever do that again"

douglas gave him a bracelet. initially adrien no longer wears it / doesn't mention it so douglas thinks he got rid of it, but after they talk during you posted what?! he starts to wear it again.

donald and leo both admit adrien (who is basically if ":) (threat)" was a person) scares them. leo had to clarify that it wasn't a compliment.

douglas, donald and adrien all have a habit of calling each other by their middle names when they're upset with each other / making fun of each other.

adrien's "dre" nickname comes from when he first met the brothers -- donald kept thinking his name was andre and adrien corrected him multiple times until he got it. douglas, however, thought this was hilarious and so the "dre" nickname stuck.

adrien and tasha friendship by virtue of being the mostly sane adults dealing with a davenport's nonsense is so real to me
