see… the more i read and reblog about v*vz*epop, the worse i feel for liking ANY aspect of her shows at all, like i need to apologize or something, but i KNOW im not the only one. ive seen other ppl express this

i dont think the baby needs to be thrown out with the bathwater here, like it’s not like JKR who has expressed that support for her work = support of her views in her mind, and her work has basically molded a generation. im sure v*v would LIKE to think shes that important lmao but shes not

i’ll be honest, one of the things keeping me from posting art these days is that so much of it is my own interpretation of h*zbin/h*lluva characters - how i would handle them, what i wish they were like, or literally just liking the character separate from the show, etc - but to the casual viewer that wouldn’t necessarily be obvious. like… my fear is that i post one sketch of alastor and suddenly lose 1,000 followers yknow

“where the hell is carrington?” jake is storming around the house with his hands on his hips. he stops outside of carringtons door. he taps his foot before rudely banging on his door. you laugh at the theatrics. johnnie, in the midst of all this chaos, is also frantically looking for his blindfold since his video idea involves one. “do you know where carrington is?” johnnie laughs, “i have not seen him for an hour.” jake rolls his eyes, “we need to get more content out. carrington has five minutes before i decide to film without him.” jake apologizes to you before he storms away from his door, you watch in awe as the two of them start scrambling for all their props.

you hesitate, but give carringtons door three light knocks. you hover closer to the door, desperate to see if he lets you in. “JAKE GO AWAY!” you look around, “it’s not jake…” you bite your lip, swaying awkwardly in front of the door. “oh shit, i’m sorry. come in.” he unlocks his door, twisting it open.

“hey are you feeling okay, car?” his usual smile is an a downward expression, he has tear marks on his face. the sight of him made you feel distraught, determined to get to the bottom of his pain. “what’s wrong? you can talk to me. i promise.” he shrugs, “this is just a lot. having more fans, getting all this hate. it takes a toll on someone.” you frown, giving him a reassuring rub on his back. “and now jake is stressing me out. he keeps putting timelines on the videos we have to film.” you nod understandingly. “it’ll be okay? alright? if you aren’t feeling up to the video i’m sure jake will understand. at the end of the day, he’d rather you be okay; then push yourself too far, yknow?” you words comforted him, but he still felt wrong.

“i owe it to the fans though, i can’t let them down.” you sigh, placing your hand on his knee. “if they’re really your fans they can go a couple days without content. they should be okay with you taking a break, to rest.” in carringtons head he was swimming with doubts. he wanted to believe the fans would be supportive, but he also didn’t want to disappoint anyone. he stood up, mumbling a small thank you. he pulled you into a tight hug, your arms around his neck, his arms around your waist.

“i’ll be there the whole time when filming okay? if you need a break tell me. i’m good at interrupting and delaying the process.” he grins, recalling the numerous times you had interrupted the scene to point out costumers in the back ruining the bit, or the camera being too blurry. you only did it if you felt like it would ruin the video; you tried to avoid interrupting the flow. however, carringtons comfort is more important to you then being perceived as annoying by jake and johnnie. “okay, i’ll try.”

“that’s good! i’m proud of you.” he hugged you once more, leaning down, he placed a kiss on your lips. “you’re so sweet to me.” you shake your head, “car, you deserve so much love.” he smiles softly at you. “now, get ready!! we have a video to film.” he rushes to his closet to change his clothes. you leave the room, giving him time to finish getting ready.

you ran into johnnie, who now had full arms of random props, “what are you going to do with half of this stuff?” you question. he shrugs, “make a good video.” you smile at him. “that’s the goal.” jake comes around the corner with some stuff from his room, intended for the video. “carrington are you filming with us?” jake asked. the door to his room opened, carrington came out with a huge grin on his face, his humor back in tact. “hell yeah i am.” you clap, glad you were able to motivate him. johnnie is happy too, “finally! let’s do it!” jake leads the group to the camera set up, the three of them sit on chairs facing the camera. your eyes linger on carrington the whole time, ensuring he felt safe and comfortable during the filming process.

here’s my favorite names for the Entities and why! (I won’t include the Flesh, the Hunt, the Slaughter, or the Vast since they have max two names)

the Spiral: Es Mentiras, which I already discussed in another post

the Eye: Ceaseless Watcher. I feel like that kind of epitomizes the horror of the Eye to me. The idea of never being alone, always being accompanied by something that knows everything about you, that will not look away no matter what you show it or what you do to try to stop it. Also brings a sense of how uh… wide reaching it is? A lot of the Eye’s other names feel really personal: It Knows You, Beholding etc feel like it’s a limited scope. Ceaseless Watcher captures how it doesn’t particularly care about what it’s watching.

the Web: the Story Spinner. I love stories, so to have them synonymized with the Web and its spiders helps me almost understand how the Web is unique in having a mind and a purpose to its horror. I like Mother, too, something about how youre supposed to trust that your parents are looking out for you and understand the world at a deeper level (even if they’re not, and they don’t), but Story Spinner takes cake

the Buried: Choke. it’s just so direct compared to the other stuff, yknow? Universal. I feel like it gets at the core of the fear. Be it under debt, water, or dirt… choke. It’s like a command too, which I like since often Choke has some kind of calling/drawing aspect to it.

the Lonely: the Lonely. the Lonely’s nicknames aren’t very creative. Just saying Lonely feels so plaintive and deeply sad, it does the work and does it well

the Stranger: I Do Not Know You. I like how it pairs with the Eye’s It Knows You enough that it made it on this list despite only having two names. It’s also like… hm, the Stranger is typically an imposition: not a fear from within like many of the others can be, but requires a trigger. I Do Not Know You sort of feels like the Entity itself is telling the world that, and in turn the world cannot know it. Perhaps it’s all the more comprehensible because of the Unknowing…

The Extinction: The Terrible Change. Honestly, the idea of it makes me surprised that it didn’t come on sooner. I’ve got an enduring fondness of apocalypses, but the concept of The Terrible Change makes me think of almost it as akin to evolution. To becoming something that you once would’ve hated, but you have no choice but to become it. Hm.

The Corruption: the Crawling Rot. Yeah, I bet you’re surprised it’s not the Flesh Hive, right? XD To be honest I’m really surprised that I’m not a bigger fan of it overall, considering the combination of bees and disease that falls beneath its jurisdiction. I feel like the Crawling Rot speaks more to the aspect of the Corruption that I do like: that the things you hate most will endure, no matter how hard you try to stamp them out, and eventually they will consume whatever was worthy or decent or good about your purpose, your life, or the world at large. And nothing is pure or safe or clean, not for long. Diseases don’t die, and neither do ant colonies or beehives or what have you. You can’t control it and its spawn or destroy it… and forever that rot will keep crawling towards you, trying to ruin everything you love

The Desolation: the Ravening Burn. It’s another one that serves dual purpose: the Ravening Burn, in the sense of the ravenous burn that consumes everything it stumbles upon, no more and no less. But also, the burn that leaves behind this empty loss in you, this sense that everything came to nothing after all. Like some of my other faves, it encapsulates the fear as a whole best imo

The Dark: Mr. Pitch. I recall Manuela was particularly distasteful towards this one, but I get it. Of course there’s the Pitch black of absolute darkness, but the “Mister” puts a childishness to it. Which is nice both because it’s heavily fed by children and the innate fear of the dark, but also the concept of the Dark as something that draws on the loss of a sense of comfort and control, the things you grasp blindly for like a child when you are losing it. No, thank you, Mr. Pitch. I’ll find my way back. My parents told me not to talk to strangers.

The End: The Coming End That Waits For All And Cannot Be Ignored. Saying it in such a cumbersome and lengthy way feels sort of like the slow march towards death, exactly what the true horror of the fear is. Oh, I’m not scared of what happens after, not really so much anyway. The most compelling part of the fear to me is the moment: when it’ll come for you or me and how it’ll feel. The Coming End That Waits For All And Cannot Be Ignored encapsulates that

I'll skip ahead of myself and say I love the way the theme of posession/corruption concentrates around him- the MoM's hatred for(/dynamic with?) Darkness pushing him to corrupt his apprentices, which Luxu carries on to "corrupt"/replace his vessels, while he's supposed to be holding a Darkness inside himself or at least luring one in,, parasites making parasites making parasites. very nasty I love it. as usual, surprisingly dark for silly kids games lmao (I say "silly kids games" with great affection. I'm a silly kids games person) (I keep leaving out Xehanort, he's a very important part of this chain too. I still need to watch DR/refresh my memory of the main series in general. MoM get a job stay away from him!)

I'm a big fan of like. idk. overbearing intimacy. and the MoM and Luxu have that. he kinda rides the line with Ava, he puts a lot on her but that is what the foretellers are there for. (different brands of parentification lmao) it's a very cult leader-y thing- grand designs and a life-or-death struggle for the fate of life itself! but when you zoom in, it's extremely driven by this one guy's own personal damage and whims and emotional needs, to hell with everyone else. I like the way his chessmaster archetype is made more out of creating a couple clever "cheats" for himself, then just lying a lot and surrounding himself with impressionable young people who he can push around easily, again very culty. fr he makes me want to try to learn more about Heaven's Gate, I never absorbed much info about them but I feel like he's somewhere between that and a Jonestown situation. "the world is broken and evil so I need to rapture all of us", yknow. but it's half control and half self-preservation.

the fact that I like to ramp up the cult stuff probably does take me farther away from where canon's going though lmao. like it's not quite this heavy fr I just enjoy this part.

i'm bored so here are some opinions that i'm too scared to say on any other platform

Deciding that Pandora Lovegood had to be from a death eater family (Rosier, Malfoy, Lestrange) was the worst thing this fandom ever did to her character

The fannon characterisation of Marlene McKinnon gives me massive self inset pick me vibes and i hate every part of it (and i really mean every part of it)

This fandom isn't misogynistic y'all are just too demanding and expect the fandom to be the exact same as any other where we have a hardcore cannon source for every one of these characters and ships. we do not. we know more about Barty Crouch Jr then we do about Marlene McKinnon, Mary MacDonald and Dorcas Meadowes combined. it's unrealistic and stupid to expect everyone to care about the same characters and ships to the same capacity as you do when we are not watching/reading the same thing. (if any of that makes sense)

Barty Crouch Jr, Evan Rosier and pretty much every single other death eater were villains. it's okay to like them and want to expand on them but stop trying to make every bad guy secretly good

I have been powering through these chapters the last we days! I live in the south and we got snow so my work has been out for most of the week. Plus, I think my self imposed week of no writing really got the juices flowing again!

CRAB ANON YOU SEE THE VISION!! I find the like delaying aging and staying young forever by never being in the sun and going into cryo chambers and doing crazy stuff like that very creepy. The pursuit of youth at all costs is just... wild to me.

YES Quinn's plastic surgery IS a forensic counter measure!!! Omg I'm so glad you picked up on that!! It's also a vanity thing, am appeal to his ego to remove every imperfection he sees in himself, and a way to appeal to a wide variety of victims. It's all SO SLIMY!!

Ben was a spur of the moment choice that I'm really happy with!! We'll hear a bit more from him later on, but suffice it to say that his motive is definitely out of fear. He wants Quinn put away, but he's disillusioned at this point at the likelihood of it. He's seen him get away with a lot of heinous shit. And he knows what happens to people who get too close to catching Quinn, and he knows what Quinn does to people who betray him.

Fun fact, Ansel is an Internal Affairs agent and he heard Colm's call over the radio. He called Greg right away and Greg, who is the fire captain of the 7-30, decided to tag along personally with his ambulance crew to make sure everything was okay. Since all firefighters are required to be paramedics in California, he's perfectly qualified!

Soo heard ya seen the georgetown palace production of cats with the female munk kinda curious on ur thoughts on whats the production like?

It was fun :o3 Im forgetting stuff already, but I do know that seeing it changed my opinions on Skimbleshanks.

Using this ask as an excuse to write down a summary for myself (not in exact song order uhhh)

Starting numbers were good. Don’t have much to say, but seeing it live and kinda close is def different from seeing 5 pixel bootlegs!! These cats are people sized!! Also you could hear the noise when they pounced on the floor. I think some of that had to do with how small the theatre was. Also Vickys solo was mostly on a pole. I thought that they wouldn’t keep the sensuality of her parts but they did!

The Old Gumbie Cat number was soo good. But that was expected from the best song in the musical. Ive already praised Munku’s actress so :o3 .The gumbie trio sounded wonderful!! But during their part they did stuff with sticks and it was definitely a bit too loud.. The guys were the mice instead of the girl kits. They made a cute little shawl for Jenny out of rope that she wore throughout the show. Rumpel and Mungo may or may not have stolen it later. The beetles tattoo was very good! I think ive already mentioned it but Munkus led most of it. Jenny did lead some of it tho. She also came in inside of a shoe-car?? Oversized light up sneaker that she was riding. Supports my hc that these cats are 3 centimeters tall.

Oki so I missed some of The RTT because im lame and I can never watch this number without looking away for a bit. Anyways, the actor was funny as hell. Made silly faces through the show. Sillabub had a “I ❤️ Tugger” cardboard sign. Very important. Bomba and Tugger were def very close. Munkus and Tugger hung out a lot too! He got a lil crown during the number from his fangirls :3 . The end bit went on for some time but it made me giggle from what I remember so it was good 👍

Bustopher Jones sounded very nice. Very jolly. Wasn’t the full song I think. Some of the cats didn’t seem to like him which lame 🙄!! (Misto and Skimble were very exited tho!). Jenny still had the crush and got a flower at the end¿. (im forgetting stuff already) Also Bustopher Jones existed outside of his song! Win for Bustopher fans everywhere.

Mungo and Rumpel were trying to be funny I think?? But a lot of it came of like those parodies of Cats. Yknow, the ones were the cat role isnt taken seriously and its like “hahah, hairballs”. Was not a fan. Hated it actually. Maybe I just hate fun idk. They were also in front being silly wayy to much. During multiple numbers. There was some dialogue at the start of their song, them asking if it was safe to come out yet instead of the usual Rumpel laughs. The two actually being scared of Mac isnt something I usually interpret, but mmm has u thinking.

Augh during one of the Scares (not sure which one) they (Deme starts and cats join in) say (not truly sing) a part of Macavity, emphasizing the hypnotizing part (foreshadowing💥). Took away some of the mystery but it didnt bother me that much. They could have made it sound better tho 😭

The Jellicle Ball choreo was a bit disappointing, but I don’t remember much uhh. The music was good tho. Misto lifted Victoria btw, if any of the 3 mistoria shippers see this.

GLAMOUR CAT REPRISE!! GLAMOUR CAT REPRISE HOW I LOVE YOU! After it I think it was just Grizz and Sillabub was there watching her from up high in the set. I dont remember if Old D stayed, but he might have.

Moments of Happiness was good I rlly liked Old Ds voice. Victoria and Jemima had a little dance at the end although this could have also happened before/during the Jellicle Ball.

Gus the Theatre cat was wonderful <33 . Such a great Jelly. One of my favorites (although I already have a lot of favorite Jellys :’3). She was sweet and her voice was nice. The number was def a bit less sad and more funny. Mmm something cute is that like 4 cats worked to place and fluff up a pillow on the hat¿ Gus sat on.

Macavity fight was very cool. There wasn’t the reveal bit. He just came in ready to fight. Demeter fought quite a bit. All the other cats (apart from Munkus [who got their ass beat like usual] and Deme) who hit Mac were all played by male actors. Munk did recover and finish it off tho (I think). Deme was also kitnapped. Definitely a suprise! There was this box they were sliding around and stuff and Mac escaped by going inside with her in it after hypnotizing her. They really played into that part. I somehow missed Old Deuteronomy being kitnapped before all this idk how.

Speaking of Macavity I loved Demeters voice. She was really good. I knew Macavity was gonna be good when I heard her in the opening number 🙏. Bomba had a deeper voice and I rlly liked the playfulness the actress brought to her. Ermm I dont remember much else.

SKIMBLESHANKS THE RAILWAY CAT was awesom. Actor was very expressive. Bustopher appears during this song. There was a bit where mungo/rumpel stole Bustophers’ watch, skimble caught them, and then Bustopher came back to get it and found skimbol with it. ‘,:-\ . Very silly I liked that part. There was also like 2 seconds of tap dancing I swear. Instant bonus points. Everybody loves Skimbleshanks for good reasons and I finally understood why.

Magical Mr Mistoffelees was fun! Its always such a happy joyful song! The Conjuring Turns!!! Holy moly. Its another experience to actually be there clapping. He first conjured up Deme at the very start and then Old Deuteronomy. They hugged a lot <33. Mr. Mistoffelees was very kittenish in this production. It was cute :o3

Memory sounded good I will not deny this! But the acting. It wasnt that emotional.. which is what I mainly like about Memory. She mostly just sung towards the audience. You didn’t really get the feeling she was angry/sad/regretful and desperate.

Grizzabella ascended on a boat. The one that is on the right of the stage in the pic.

Another number my mind was changed on is Addressing of Cats. I think I mentioned it being a least fave in a ask game and yeagh. This is why Growltiger beat it for least fave song. Very awesome. A cat is not a dog.

I enjoyed it! Genuinely never thought I would see it in person until I was much older but I was proved wrong! Also the Cats brainrot was stronger in the weeks leading up to it. (good thing)

Atticus can play any and all stringed instruments. If it has strings, he can play it. But his best instrument is the guitar.

Atticus hosts weekly campfire jam sessions for the J-Squad down at the beach. He pulls out an acoustic and just plays songs for them to sing and have fun together

Now, if yesterday you missed the giant gaping hole that opened up on the west side of camp because you were with councilors Soren and Fennel. Well, you do now! But because I was so caught up in reporting this mysterious pit, I forgot to share some of the paintings the people in cabin ladybug made! My third favorite here is by Gramm Backside. Their painting was a self portrait of themself, it looks just like them! The same teeth, eyes, and that blackened face where you can only see the eyes and teeth! Great job Gramm! Second, we have this painting by Floor Handle. Her work had a boy in the middle of the fields. As the eternal doom of the sky and the land is swarming behind him, and it feels as if its all going to crumble down on top of him. Pretty neat! And for my personal favorite, drumroll..!”

“Marty McMark! His painting had me in a trance. The blood stained leaves on the forest ground, realistic eyes popping out of the sky - Rowan wouldn’t like that. The sky weirdly being blue too, odd. Matthew made us some lobster biscuits with metal chunks! Yknow, if I had the very slim chance to even see a lobster house, I would feel so bad for the little lobster in those tanks. To be picked up from that cramped place into a boiling pot. Don’t worry, Matthew assured me these lobsters were already dead before cooking! For the vegans you can eat the chunks of metal! But now… Adam’s here and we don’t know how to really react to this. It seems like he’s been waiting for this, and doesn’t want to go back. He’s in my office, not in this room, but in the building. Currently, Juniper decided to volunteer to give a camp tour to the guy considering how cerious Adam is about it. For Mila and Juno, I am very disappointed in you campers. This was supposed to be a fun, simple activity! When I heard some of yall were going to swim, while still eating sand, I wasn’t too mad, and Mila and Juno confirmed this was okay! While we were setting up traps for Adam so we could catch him, you guys awoke an ancient beast in the bottom of the lake! And Mila and Juno had to get the harpoon guns and get it back to the bottom! Do you know how angry I am that they had to hurt that- THING! I do not like animal cruelty in this camp, unless it's for food, which is just only natural to kill animals for food. I swear this is just so, ughhh…”

“Magnificent, beautiful camp you have here! Interesting flowers and such if I do say.”

“Ah, well it’s not always as beautiful. Acid rains, monsters and all…”

“Showed him the cabins, introduced him to some of the councilors so they won’t be scared, a bit of the forest, and the lake!”

“Oh! He’s been working on a new project!”

“Alright… met the chef - Matthew earlier! Weird one, in a good way! Oh he is a funny one..!”

“Oh, the kids might be in the mess hall right now waiting for… DINNER- OH MY GOD KIDS YOU GUYS PROBABLY ALREADY DISHED UP AND EATING. SOME OF YOU ARE PROBABLY BACK IN YOUR CABINS! I didn’t even say the time, nor the sky color! Arrghhhh!!!”

It’s shrimp cobbler! Wow sounds so… yummy..! I can’t even eat that and it sounds delicious. Jedidiah always had something against shrimps, like me with centipedes! Mine is probably worse! I bet you’re already oh-so full from eating sand all day, unless you need more after awakening an ancient beast! So now you’ll need that energy for tonight’s activity! - Totally a dad type. Charming, levelheaded, all around a great guy

- Has a New York accent. “Ay I’m walkin’ ‘ere!” And all

- Never knew his birth parents. He’s been in an orphanage ever since he was a baby, and then later lived in a foster home until he was 18. Though he was never officially adopted by anyone his foster guardians were usually kind and took care of him well

- He got his RV from some guy on Craigslist (or what the Flipline equivalent is) who was giving it away practically for free. It wasn’t exactly in the best shape when he got it but a deep-cleaning, a few repairs, and some help from friends did the trick. He even managed to live in it for a couple of years before getting his apartment

- He’s always wanted children of his own, and even not being married he wanted to adopt children. He eventually adopted James and Mary when James was 7-8 and Mary was a toddler

- (If you don’t like the thought of them being family then we’ll just say they’re all friends and Skip is like a dad with his 2 dumb children in this case)

- Master on the grill. He can grill anything, steak, kabobs, you name it. He even grilled a watermelon once (it was awful, but he did it)

- Didn’t always know how to cook the way he does though. Back then he relied on mostly instant food or things he knew were easy to cook like hotdogs. He took cooking classes later in life though

- He can’t bake though. He can’t bake at all, his skill in baking is like the complete opposite of his cooking skills

- Not much of a sweets fan. He likes salty stuff

- Aside from tailgating, he also likes to drive his RV out of the city to go glamping. It’s a refreshing way to spend some time alone and away from the busy city life, just in nature and silence

- Extroverted introvert. He’s the type of guy who gets along with everyone and can be the life of any party, but he never overstays his welcome. He gets tired pretty easily and needs to take time to himself to properly recharge

- He really likes his naps. He works hard all day, so if he’s not hanging with his pals, watching tv at home, or taking care of Pastrami, he’s probably taking a nap. He’s like a grizzly bear (oh he also snores VERY loudly)

- Besides sports, he also likes watching sitcoms and comedy shows, action movies, and documentaries about kinda niche topics

- Speaking of Pastrami, Skip adopted Pastrami from an animal shelter long after Mary and James moved out. Pastrami was a pet rat abandoned by his previous owner and left in the streets of Oniontown. Skip felt bad for him, so he adopted him. Unexpectedly, their bond grew quickly, and now they are inseparable

- Pastrami is pretty attached to Skip. He’ll whine sometimes if Skip tries to go somewhere without him. Also, despite being blind, he has an excellent sense of smell so if they do somehow get separated then Pastrami can trace his scent to find him. He loves cuddling, though just be careful that he doesn’t try to crawl into your shirt (it’s happened before)

- Skip is thinking of getting another rat for Pastrami. Just as a little friend to keep him company when he couldn’t be around

- Used to volunteer at a library as story time reader and a tutor for kids and teens. He even tutored Allan when he used to live in Oniontown. When they met again for Mocharia, Skip recognized him which caught Allan by surprise as he didn’t remember him at all

- A popular guy in Oniontown. Pretty much everyone in the city knows his name and he’s respected by peers, even by Radlynn and Sarge Fan

- Though he’s usually nice, he’s been known to be snarky towards tourists. When he was talking to Koilee and she told him about her getting scammed he laughed right in her face about it, and still thinks she’s an idiot to this day. And when NuMarcus’ brick scam was going on he didn’t even bother to tell anyone they were wasting their money

- He was always a builder at heart. Back in his youth he used to hang out in Oniontown’s junkyard with his friends scavenging for stuff to make things with. A couple things they built were a tall platform they could climb on and even an incredibly janky go-kart out of scrap metal and spare parts. It wasn’t safe at all but it was fun

- The worst injury he’s ever had was when he drove the said janky go-kart down a hill of junk. He broke his arm so bad he had to get a metal rod inserted in for it to heal properly

- He likes the thought of being in a relationship and getting married, but isn’t totally sure about it. He’s had crushes but has never been on any real dates before. He doesn’t even know where to start when it comes to romance so he’s thinking of asking a friend when he’s ready

nextfest part 2!

i said out loud "oh thats adorable" when i saw that you get circles from an apple and triangles from a teapot. so, the first thing i wanna compare this to is Mindustry, since its a resource miner and tower defence game. notably, it's a radial defence. yknow how sometimes rhythm games, instead of having a straight note highway, have the notes approach the centre from all sides of the screen (look up the persona dancing games if you dont know what i mean). well this is like that! you send units to a book, and they travel out from the centre to defend it from the monsters approaching from the edge of the screen. this is already so fun! i can already appreciate that this emphasizes a really unique and interesting approach compared to other defence games ive played. wishlisted before i finished the first tutorial

this is a game i found on twitter at first, so im excited to give it a real go! im in that weird level where, as a peripheral nintendo fan, im aware of the reverence for f-zero, but ive never actually played any of the games, so i had no idea what i was getting into. after playing it, gotta say, hell yeah this feels awesome. i dig the visuals, the music's pretty fitting for the action, and the controls are SO slippery in a good way. its so ridiculously responsive, at first i felt the need to reach for the drift button on sharp turns but that instinct melted when i got acclimated by like, map 2. pumped for the full game

woof, 13gb for a demo? thats a lot around these parts. but hey, the game itself is pretty alright! the controls feel awesome, especially the dash. the high-jump is a little counterintuitive at first, but its east to get the feel for through the tutorial. speaking of, it is so long... i get that this is a complicated game, but its hard for me to internalize so much all at once. i hope that it was just for the sake of the demo, and the full game has more of an integrated way of teaching the player. i really like how if you miss an item, youre given the option of paying for it, or summoning the monster it spawns from for free, fun little player choice. also, minor nitpick, but the hitbox for the coins feel a bit small, i had do do a lot of what i call the "oops loop" when i missed one. i dont wanna hold this against the game, because this might be on me, but i had no idea what to do in the cactus level. i got the frisbee thing, but there wasnt anything for me to climb to with it, because i dont think there was anything above the door, and it wouldnt stick to the cactus wall. im not really feeling this one, but ill keep my eye out when it releases just in case it turns out better than i expect

this one caught my eye in the store for the aesthetic alone, and anyone who knows be gets why. i always dig this y2k-futuristic colourful vector stuff. in the game itself, yeah, i really dig this art direction. im a little dissapointed the evil-looking edera is such a pushover to the boss, i presume all the models have the same personality? anyway, gameplay: imagine bomberman 64 meets hyper light drifter. the only thing is, your character feels weirdly heavy. dashing somehow feels too slow and too fast at the same time, and it feels like youre trying to throw a couch full of helium every time you jump. the bomb mechanic itself is fine though! this seems like a solid but flawed game. ill give the full release an honest try if it releases for cheap, but i dont blame you if youre not feeling as generous

right away, i had to do controller calibration with my keyboard before it let me calibrate my controller. okay? anyway, the game kicks ass. i love how the drift feels, i can tell it took a lot of work to get it to feel like it does. its hard to explain, but it feels like it has ending lag? like, it takes you a while to STOP drifting, so you cant just do it for ever turn, youve gotta commit to it. the action is super tense to! the game expects you to play well or else you dont win, and i appreciate a game that knows its difficulty. if you die, you respawn almost immediately, and the almost is all you need. the art style is cute too, everything looks toyish, and it helps the game feel less serious in a "lets all have fun" kinda way without detracting from the action. wishlisted!

yeah i played more demonschool, i know nextfest isnt a competition but demonschool would win. its criminal that when you dont sort by "most wishlisted" that the first few pages arent exclusively demonschool

woah, achievements? i saw someone on twitter (@casitamono hes also a dev so you should check out Street Shuffle and Project B-fer) literally comand me to play this and im nothing if not compliant. and yeah, right away, THIS is how you have a style that is also substance. NBB was carried by its style, of the devil is carrying its style. the writing is fantastic, the characters are the perfect blend of unique and realistic, and the worldbuilding is cyberpunk that is poiniant and directed without going off the deep end. the gameplay is such a fun approach to detective work, i have no idea how they made gambling work without feeling luck-based. i am SO ready for more of this! definitely the best demo i played tonight (new games, i mean, i dont know who would win in a fight between this and demonschool but i think im leaning in morgans favour). its so long too?? i was not expecting this to be two and a half hours of quality substance. PLEASE play this game

I dont think there's any that make me see red or anything, just a lot that are really really nothing imo. I think there's a lot of kinda just for fun or sweet ships that don't really have enough chemistry for me to care abt, which is so fine I just like dynamicsss. Then again a lot of that is down to a lot of wc characters being kinda blank slates (esp side characters) i can buy into most things if someone is insane enough abt their headcannons for it.

WAIT I'm lying,and hollyleaf and fallenleaves. I think he's boring!!! he should've been more toxic genuinely. This also stemms from me being a giant hollyleaf head and liking her being a bit of a bad person, I don't really see why this relationship with some super patient ghost guy would really make her turn around on anything. She had multiple patient people in her life yknow. I think him being clingy, desperate not to lose the only cat to see him on decades, would be way more interesting. Maybe she's being eaten alive by guilt, bc she's contradicted everything she believed in and is trying to justify it to ease her own stress. And fallenleaves is like overly forgiving of it to the point it upsets her. I also just think her narrative turn around was too easy and she wasn't really taken to task by anyone which is disappointing. Like I hate the idea of Holly's turn around being in part to a pseudo ghost boyfriend who's nice to her and her learning mother hood hard bc nursing a fox cub ect. I want it to come from herself and admitting to what she chose to do in her spiral. I think part tof what really gets to her is others disappointment, and silence, and like leafpool in the berries scene where she's got this controlled kinda disappointment and grief. Like hollyleaf wants a bigger reaction to rally against to justify her own extremity but she isn't getting it. Ashfur is someone who gave that to her. she wants to be a bigger victim than she was, she can't take the idea that everything was always out of control and starclan never had anyone's interests in mind. Not just her. Or that others suffered more than her (leaf and squirrel). Idk I think having some guy try to justify it to her to keep her with him would really force her to hear how it sounds.

Also most of this is like part canon remembering and part like, projection and fan interpretation bc wc stuff is a fascinating melting pot of Nostalgia and canon, and headcanon more than any fandom I've seen before. Partly bc the maps and animations create a soft canon that ppl get into instead of the books. I'm trying to write an essay abt ittttt. I also kinda have this pet theory abt hollyleaf being written in the same veign as male characters in the series where their emotional turmoil is used to demean, punish and flanderize female characters (leafpool and squirrelflight in this circumstance) and I think it's interesting. As well as her never being really held to account for how she treated anyone, she's allowed to keep hating her mothers, she got away with murder and attempted murder ect. She also was allowed to be ambitious and never had a mate which r both things Erin's almost never let female characters do without making them into like evil hag harpies ect. I'm very interested in breaking down their specific gender Flanderization bc it's such a clear pattern they use in the books over and over bc they hate women a LOT.
