The Rook x Observant Reader got even longer. I’m not even talking the current word count which is 39k. I’m talking I have more idea to fit in the end so the entire theme of the fanfic is more wholistic. Yes, there are core themes in this like real novels or short stories. There’s even foreshadowing. I intentionally use story structure to enhance the reader’s experience. I make sure that there’s no scenes that are not there for a reason. If I could take it out of the story and it would still make sense, I’ve banished it to the scrap pile.

I have no idea how this happened. I’m as surprised as everyone else. I’ve been in shock for the past 3 hrs.

Some of these things I didn’t even plan until I looked a little closer and analyzed it and went “oh my god! The parallels!” You’ll get it once you read it.

I’m still in shock but I have to share because wtf. I didn’t plan any of this. It just happened and it’s smart

Fandorm Showcase #14 - The Sword In The Stone

This one has more heavy lore stuff than the other fandorms I have created so far, so bear with me here.

Introducing the whimsy and chaotic dorm inspired by The Sword In The Stone...

Abracamelot!

The dorm's name derives from Abra- (the front part of Abracadabra) and Camelot (the fictional world of arthurian legends).

This dorm focuses on pure chaos and anarchy, no rules are bounding the students that are placed here since all of them have magic capabilities that exceeds all expectations of others. They specialize in more advanced spells, like shapeshifting, vanishing, size altercations and so forth, especially for the housewarden who can do more complex spells. They have a way of choosing their housewardens by shapeshifting into the most crazy animal they can physically do, the highest achievement they have gotten is a dragon. (Which is the housewarden I will bring up later.)

"A dorm founded on the Mischievous Sorceress's spirit of virtue. Students in this dorm are magically capable in complex spells yet they have no rules of restraint or logic."

Not gonna lie, I was also taking inspirations from Discord, the spirit of chaos from MLP:FiM for this one cuz it really has that chaotic energy I'm trying to go for, so yeah-

Fun fact: I actually took the colour palette inspiration from the one Madam Mim card from the Lorcana series, cuz with the regular outfit Madam Mim wears, the colors are too simplistic. I wanted a more chaotic feel for the uniforms, so I make use of the colour palette as well as some inspiration of mage-like outfits.

Mael Devlin! (Twisted off Madam Mim)

Mael is a mischievious little boy (although he's much older than he seems) who just likes causing chaos or making people miserable for his personal amusement. No sense of sympathy or humility came from this guy, he is just that malicious as an archmage who claims to have lived for so many years. But is there really a dark secret behind this archmage's long lifespan? Or is he just bluffing to mess with you? Who knows...

Mael has made a pact with the seven demons of the Underworld (This is not Obey Me, calm down Obey Me! fans-) for a chance to live an immortal life as well as limitless magic in his disposal, but at the cost of having his very soul claimed by the Underworld...which should have been what happened but thanks to Mael, being a mischievous lil gremlin, finding a loophole within the pact, the seven demons are now working FOR him, making sure his immortality maintains for longer than agreed. He wanted this pact because he had beef to settle with a certain elderly mage that has been his long-standing rival, but because of said mage's retirement (cough Ambrose The 63rd cough), Mael is left bored out of his mind with no one to challenge with...except when he had his eyes on Malleus Draconia that his spark of mischief returns once again after years of boredom.

Notable Members:

Morgen Le Feye/Lucifer (Sophomore) - A prideful mage who wants to learn from Mael about chaos magic, all while keeping a suave demeanor to hide his malice. He is the older brother of Memphis. (Twisted off Morgan Le Fey from Sofia The First)

Memphis Le Feye/Leviathan (Sophomore) - Morgen's younger brother, always seem distracted yet sometimes envious of people having fun, wanting to join the fun his own way. (Twisted off Morgause Le Fey from arthurian legends)

Morgen and Memphis actually hides a secret despite at first glance, looking like regular students.

They're the demons of Pride and Envy in disguise in order to assist Mael in his pursuit of proving his magical might, thus the strange tattoos on their human forms (That symbolizes their ranks in the Underworld). They use the human forms to blend in so nobody would suspect Mael of dabbling in dark magic (it is illegal according to TWST laws).

Synopsis:

Strange occurrences has been happening around campus. Rooms rotating and turned upside down, furniture acting weird and occasionally comes alive, people getting stuck in weird traps. All of this chaotic magic, where does it come from?

Turns out it all came from the school's master of mischief, Mael Devlin, who is finding amusement in people's miseries. Shenanigans ensue as our main protagonists try to make sense in this wacky mess.

And that is all for Abracamelot, possibly the most interesting dorm I came up with.

Scrolling around the Yuu tag and your Morgan!Yuu appeared and I have an unhealthy love for characters doomed by the narrative.

On that note, have you ever stopped to think about Morgan!Yuu, who is stuck in Twisted Wonderland, a world similar to theirs yet not, a world where no one knows them as the Immovable Tyrant Ruler and for the briefest of moments (to them at least), the let out that small remaining piece of Tonelico out and let themself enjoy their time in Twisted Wonderland.

But they know how their story is going to end...

What if I started hyperventilating and losing it and eating drywall and drinking cement? What then? What then HUH????

I just ... I need you to understand the reason why Summer Morgan is like That in her 1st and 2nd ascensions is due to one immutable fact—that just an ounce of kindness was able to revert her back to the days when she'd truly been happiest, when she embraced the spring and summer with open arms and glowing smile, when the burden of a kingdom desperate to cannibalize itself hadn't weighed so heavily on her shoulders.

Just the fact that Morgan!Yuu gets to let the walls crumble for just a moment to finally breathe after having long since allowed the fear of their kindness becoming their undoing (which inevitably happens anyway because Morgan!Yuu hasn't known peace).

And yet even so, they lay awake in the dead of night worried of their people, worried of what the future holds, worried that their kindness will be turn into a stake raring to pierce theor beating heart.

And some part of them knows that all faorytales must come to an end. That all stories reach the hardcover one way other the other—that there are no cliffhangers to be found where their going. It's hellish and maddening and they'd wish it'd end so that the hope doesn't fester and bleed out into a world that may as well be decaying if they stay just one moment longer.

And yet it's addicting. Kindness, compassion, the yearning of something better its all so addicting that Morgan!Yuu simply has no choice but to see it all through to the end. Even if it hurts them more than anything else.

Because in the end—it was worth it. All of it. For just a moment of reprieve.

Hello Miss Raven!! So it’s unfortunately a pretty well known fact that the TWST English translation has a bad habit of botching important dialogue and lore, and even removing lines altogether, and I saw a reblog a day ago regarding that.

The original post was a fact sheet on Leona & how he interacts with women (alongside other stuff but that’s besides the point). And the reblog I was looking at was saying that the English translation just makes it sound like he’s a feminist, when it’s implied in the original JP game that the beastwomen tend to be more aggressive, giving Leona a reason to be afraid of them. And that reminded me that on the TWST fandom wiki under Leona’s trivia he said he’s intimidated by them, and every time I see that I remember that just can’t seem to find that detail at all anywhere in the English game.

So I wanted to ask you what did the original JP game say about how male and female beastmen interact with each other and why Leona would be cautious around them? Because this is a piece of info that I really would have liked to see in ENG, and I’m kind of annoyed I didn’t know about this before.

I believe this is the Leona lore post you’re referring to? Both TWST wikis (the fandom one and the .gg one) state the same trivia point about Leona being “intimidated” by beastwoman. I’m assuming this is where the reblogger picked up the idea of beastwomen being more “aggressive”, and this being Leona’s reasoning for being “intimidated” by them.

In a nutshell, the claims of Leona being a feminist only in EN + beastwomen aggression and Leona being intimidated by that is not true. The “Leona is a feminist” take was around long before the official English localization, and that’s because the Japanese text also has Ruggie (Leona Ceremonial Robes vignettes) and Cater (Cater’s School Uniform vignette) commenting that Leona is “nice” and “respectful” to women. To claim that they made Leona feminist in the localization is false. They never use the word “feminist” in JP or EN though; the label came from the fandom interpreting this bit of lore as Leona being more considerate of women.

As for the reasoning! Leona states in his Ceremonial Robes vignettes that “[Beastwomen are] already way stronger than us. Goin’ against them only brings more trouble.” I believe that someone probably misunderstood that second line of dialogue as Leona fearing the strength/aggression of beastwomen. He never actually indicates or implies that he feels that way. However, these vignettes being cited for the trivia on the wiki likely led to some confusion.

So if Leona isn’t afraid of beastwomen and their physical fitness, how is that second line supposed to be interpreted? Well, let’s think about his character. Leona is a smart guy. He dislikes having to put forth effort into pointless things, especially if he can plan ahead and avoid it. As I tend to say whenever I talk about his Big Brain Cells, Leona likes to work smarter, not harder. Again, look at this line:

“Goin’ against them only brings more trouble.”

It’s likely Leona just wanting to appease his sister-in-law to avoid having to deal with the fallout of not fulfilling her request. It would otherwise be a pain to deal with—and we’ve seen Leona act in various ways to avoid such pains. For example, he goes to Playful Land with Jack to make sure his dorm member comes back alright (or else Leona is responsible for the consequences), purposefully not choosing a vice dorm leader so he doesn’t have someone to challenge his authority, and generally has convenient excuses prepared to get out of things he doesn’t want to do.

If we want to think of it from another angle, this better fits what we already know of Leona’s cunning. He knows when to call it quits and make a strategic surrender. The most notable example of this occurs early in book 6, when he stops fighting Styx agents and willingly gives himself up to them. He also throws in the towel in book 2 and refuses to play because he already knows that his team is destined to lose to Malleus since they didn’t succeed in eliminating him beforehand. In the situation with Leona’s sister-in-law asking for a picture of him in his robes, Leona is acquiescing because that’s just the smart thing to do. Why even argue if he knows it won’t be fruitful? It’s wasted effort.

I would like to add that physical strength isn’t even the only factor here. Ruggie points out in one of his Chats that “Girls have both the grit and the camaraderie to triumph when the goin’ gets tough.” Grit refers to courage or resolve. The latter, resolve, lends credence to the idea that beastwomen are also determined or strong-willed. In which case… yeah, I don’t think they’d back down from an argument/verbal fight or a physical one.

If we circle back to the previous paragraph, it supports the interpretation that Leona giving in to what his sister-in-law wants is the result of him wanting to avoid a pointless and prolonged fight if he refuses. Cuz like… why waste that time and energy to come out of it with nothing, right?

If it was true that Leona listens to what women day only because he’s actually scared of beastwomen, then that doesn’t explain his interactions with non-beastwomen. Why would he agree to attend a party for an enchanted portrait (Rosaria), which has no means of harming him? He agreed to the proposition as soon as he heard Rosaria is a lady; there didn’t need to be a threat or significant verbal pushback for him to go. As Leona states in Cater’s School Uniform vignette, “Portrait or not, I respect ladies and Rosaria is a lady.” (I think the reblogger may have been confused and was actually referring to THIS line being made “more feminist” in EN. In JP, Leona says something closer to, “Even if it’s a portrait, a woman is a woman.” JP does not have the “I respect ladies” portion.)

Sooo, in conclusion… Leona agreeing to do as his sister-in-law says does not necessarily mean he is intimidated by beastwomen; as I’ve explained, there is an alternate explanation with evidence in canon: he wants to avoid pointless hassle.

I hope this helps to clear things up ^^ I know the localization isn’t exactly perfect, but let’s take care to not assume changes or mistranslations!
