As a woman who devoured 6 seasons of Outlander in 3 months

I find that Sam was very brilliant in his performance in the first season

Bearing in mind I distractedly watched the first episode of 7B and not at all the second one, I think this calls for a more nuanced approach.

I do agree with you S was stellar all the way up to Season 4, when things started to spiral downwards, somewhat. I think it's obvious and I don't think we do him - or ourselves, morally speaking - any favors trying to put on a brave face and ignore facts. While C was, in my humble opinion, the weakest link in Season 1, she slowly started to be more comfortable with Claire and have a better understanding and intuition of that character from Season 2 onwards, only to accompany S down the drain at the same above mentioned point on the show's timeline. I am sorry if that sounds brutal to some - blind, enamored fangirling never quite did it for me, but constructive critic is always my cup of tea.

We could probably spend the rest of the night debating reasons and consequences, Anon, much of which are well known - and carefully denied - by many in this fandom. And while many might ascribe the 'new', later seasons S to an older JAMMF character he doesn't seem to master as perfectly as young, fresh faced JAMMF, I agree with you that he looks perfunctorily disinterested too many times for my liking. But then so does C, a woman her Stans worship the earth she's treading upon all day long, while nastily belittling her co-star and - remember, ROFLMAO - Partner Everyday. In a nutshell, the older JAMMF is a formulaic shadow of the fascinatingly versatile younger self and the older CEBRF is a frowning matron, with a passion for ether and terrible, terrible pitch. This is why I have always said I would like to see them both being offered the opportunity to create totally new characters, in totally new projects that would send them out of their respective acting comfort zones. That would be the real litmus test, Anon: not the feisty matriarch in Belfast, nor the endearingly stolid paramour in Love Again. They can do better, that much we know and they deserve better.

When a good, gifted actor suddenly starts to mix things up and lose it, there might be other reasons at play. And I know I will irritate many and I don't care if I do, to be honest. I am still amazed at the complete lack of discernment of this fandom's Stans. They seem to ignore the crucial accountability of that increasingly ineffective army of scriptwriters, producers (we both agree them being Exec Producers is little more than an incentive, with little real leverage on creative decisions) and directors - Matt who? directors XYZ who? And God forbid we'd bring into the mix Gabaldon's increasingly verbose, mediocre output and questionable narrative choices. Her complete lack of historical sensitivity: painting a dull Paris background while she was sitting on a cultural goldmine. Her obsessively cheap sensationalism: raping and uselessly traumatizing ALL of the main characters (why? is happiness that boring? and if so, what does this tell us about their creator?). Her abusively interspersing the intrigue with uninteresting, obscure botanical references, while forgetting to properly tie in the narrative lines. So much so, that I began to increasingly find disagreeable to continue reading the books, from The Fiery Cross onwards. Throw rotten tomatoes at me, if you wish, but I think life is too short for bad literature. So many other formidable things to read, so many other worlds to discover - why would I, as a reader, give this contemptuous, megalomaniac lady my time and my patience, when I have Tiziano Terzani's wonderful travelogues begging for my attention, on my nightstand?

You might ask, with good reason and common sense, why am I still committed to watch the show. And the answer is simple, Anon: when I start something, I strive to properly or at least decently finish it. And despite all the #shitshow, the cruelty, the childish lies, the gaslighting, the traculas and xenas and trolls, I am still here for that love. This, Anon, is something that nobody could ever take away from Those Two, spare perhaps their lesser selves (and that is nobody's business). But I am not worried, in that department - just aware and perhaps a bit cynical, too.

6 is polite out of obligation and the anchor to fate he feels weighs him down. He's also not against breaking the rules at all either, in his voice lines to Vertin he implies that if no one is watching, doing what one pleases is fine in his books.

Medicine Pocket on the other hand purely lives for themselves and them alone. They're the definition of here for a good time not a long time. Her voice lines often talk about how without the Storm the Foundation wouldn't have given him the funds they do now due to their eccentricity.

The duo of them would be so funny cause MedP would be 6's anger translator and 6 would be helpful in making MedP sit down and evaluate the best options in any scenario over her usual method of process of elimination.

Also Medicine Pocket is so comfortable around nonverbal people yk? Like 6 keeps up but also wouldn't have to speak, MedP doesn't need mediation all the time or constant assurance that his choice is right because she thinks she is no matter what. Yapper x Listener because 6's Arcanist in a Nutshell talks about how important it is to 6's daily routine to have time to recharge his social battery, but how not all interaction with others drains it. It's just people looking at him to have all the answers and MP wouldn't look to others for what they already know, they're a genius in their field. Without the Storm she would've found something else to work on albeit less entertaining and with less leniency towards his chaos.

This was for a new reality I created a bit ago that was sort of going to be "revenge", as I put it, before I finally permashift to my desired reality. But now that I'm not feral anymore, I thought it'd be best to not let the reality go completely to waste. A homage if you will. Context: I used to be a gifted child with "so much potential". Therefore, in honor of this deep-seated desire for academic validation here were going to be my unofficial overqualified high school years in a nutshell.

OK so I just finished the sixth book and I needed to talk abou this. At the end of the book, Harry breaks up woth Ginny, and they both kind of admit that they knew it was coming. Other than being fiercely adamant of not caring if she is in danger, she doesn't seem too torn up about it. She says,  ‘Well ... I can’t say I’m surprised. I knew this would happen in the end. I knew you wouldn’t be happy unless you were hunting Voldemort. Maybe that’s why I like you so much.’ .... is it just me or is this insane??? Is she saying she only likes him when he's out being a hero?? Idk I need more thoughts on this.

I KNOW!!!! This bit is just everything wrong with hinny in a nutshell. She idolizes the idea of Harry rather than the actual person - who she clearly doesn't understand because this is so the opposite of who Harry is as a person. And it goes both ways. Harry likes the idea of Ginny - of the normalcy he thinks he will never have - but barely knows anything about her and never actually includes her in anything or even bothers to seek her out at the end of book 7. (In book 5 he actually does increasingly include her in his plans and seeks her out for emotional intimacy but then for some reason JKR reverses course on that in book 6 and book 6-7 hinny is an utter trainwreck because clearly she can only write good romance by mistake). They both deserve better.

Tales of the Underworld: Ventress

Significance Beyond the Screen

Greeting! Let's talk about the significance of this scene. Now, we'll get a few things out of the way. Dark Disciple, if you're unfamiliar, is a story, that in a nutshell, follows Quinlan and Ventress, it came out in 2015. The main thing to keep in mind: this book was based on 8 scripted but uncompleted episodes of the Clone Wars we never got to see. The final episode of this arc being titled 'The Path." That is SUCH a downplay explanation of the book, but this intro is very long as is, so, perhaps we'll get into that later, mh?

Now, Quinlan's story gets a little tricky, there's a lot in legends and in the comics that can make his lore hard to follow in complete depth. For the sake of this post, let's talk timeline, this also gets a little crowded, so hold on; Dark Disciple takes place after season 6, but before the Siege of Mandalore. After the first four episodes of S7 (I.e. TBB introduction) is where chapters 1-25 will take place, then, the comic series Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir takes place before chapters 26-42. Then, you'd reach the SoM. You could even add the unfinished CW episode 'Crystal Crisis on Utapau' right before TBB episodes. Also, if you're unfamiliar with Quinlan and Obi-Wan's relationship, they met as padawans, etc... and when Quinlan starts drifting dark, it's Obi-Wan that pulls him back to the light. (I don't remember the details of that comic)

In this post, there will be spoilers of Ventress' arc in Tales of the Underworld and the Dark Disciple novel. You will also be subjected to listening to me tell you why you should read Dark Disciple.

||The bleakest part about being a Jedi, is when we fail||

Obi-Wan Kenobi is the one in which this quote belongs, in the novel, we see Obi-Wan advocating for not just Quinlan, but for Ventress. When you think of Obi-Wan as being so true to the lightside, this book confirms it. It very much lives up to the "You cannot save everyone, Master Kenobi."

There is a deep significance that should scream to you, seeing Obi-Wan with Quinlan, to see his grief as much as his own. In the Clone Wars series, you hear Obi-Wan say he never liked hanging out with Quinlan, but for someone he doesn't like being with, in canon and legends, Obi-Wan never leaves Quinlan's side. To understand that in its entirety, we must reflect upon Quinlan's past, and how Obi-Wan was there. (He sits alone for almost two hours just waiting for Quinlan).

Perhaps because he sees a wild Jedi walking on the thin line of light and dark and cannot help but to root for him, because if he can overcome his darkness, so can Anakin... Right?

There is something so poetic about Quinlan's last words to Ventress being "I will always love you," Sound a little familiar, right? Quinlan lowering Ventress after watching her die for him, him continuing to follow the path of the light, when he's at the darkest point in his life, he returns Ventress to her home and he and Obi-Wan leave together? The way Obi-Wan is the person he never got when he lost everything.

All of this is happening right on the cusp of Episode 3; this is a story where the Jedi Council doubts, where we can understand how Jedi like Qui-Gon and Anakin start to stand apart from the Council ideals. Like them, Quinlan is often at odds with them, and we see his journey of light a battle he fights alone because of this.

In her death, Obi-Wan defends Ventress to The Council for saving Quinlan. In almost a desperate plea that they will see, for all her bad deeds, despite her past, in the end, she was worthy of loving, she was worth mourning. I am not painting The Council as villains in this story either, it is, however, quite a read to see how they approach the events of this novel.

Dark Disciple is as much about Quinlan and Ventress as it is Obi-Wan and Ventress. We see Quinlan and Ventress fall in love, and we see Obi-Wan defending that love and mourning with his friend when that love is gone.

Really, I just love how much Ventress is supported and understood by Obi-Wan too, not just Quinlan. How he offers the same unconditional love to a fellow Jedi and someone who tried to kill him.

Ventress sacrifices herself to save Quinlan; It is the redemption of people not just broken but shattered and how they are granted the chance to try again. This is a story of acceptance of faults and the knowledge that comes with growth. Ventress gets resurrected, and it does stick true to the theme of the book because she gets to try again, even at the end of her arc, she gets the chance to try again.

Oh god that is so brutal and it's Season 6 June in a nutshell that goes to show starting with season 3 they were rewriting their previous canon and the canon of the book I don't like any of the writers of this show I will never watch anything from them again. I can't believe so many of the "fans" of this show hate on nick so much and don't have any critical thinking skills that what the show is giving us now makes no sense.

A new game?

Hey guys, I decided to change the idea for a bit. In one of my last posts, I mentioned my idea of Yandere FNAF UCN. In another previous post, I also said my how Yandere UCN is just Ultimate Custom Night slowly becoming Ultra Custom Night, while the robots practically simp for reader dangerously. However, I realised how it might not be appropriate, as the creator of Ultra Custom Night would probably not want their game being used for x reader fanfics with the storyline of Left4Dead Lovesick FNAF edition in an office. So I tried to change it! Instead there is a FNAF fangame I made up in my head based off the FNAF community’s stuff, like fanmade animatronics and fangame characters for example. I’m still building the plot, so please ‘bear‘ with me. Enjoy!

You are (Name). You work as a small streamer online, with you gaining an adequate amount of subscribers and followers on Twitch and Tumblr, due to the FNAF content that you created. People like you for your SFM and Blender animations and your occasional FNAF memes. You even made fanmade FNAF merch which was pretty good. You recently requested your followers what FNAF games they want to see you play. Some of them began requesting games like Five Nights at Candy’s, Dormitabis or Animators’ Hell. Others stick to requesting original games like Pizzeria Simulator, FNAF World, and Security Breach. You then start playing the games your followers requested the next day on Twitch.

As you finish your run on Ultra Custom Night, you cross it off the list of requested games that your followers asked you to play. However, there was one odd request you were curious about. This request mentioned a game called The Last Terminal at Freddy’s, which you went on to find on Gamejolt in your free time. However, it didn’t exist(?), only having a Page Not Found screen on your computer.

However, according to the anonymous requester, they proclaimed that, like Ultra Custom Night, this new fangame has a lot of animatronics as well as new mechanics. The requester said, in a nutshell after that, the game is just if the whole community stuffed FNAF games, fangames, book and fanmade animatronics, all put into one game that is programmed and formatted like Ultimate Custom Night. They even mentioned that if The Last Terminal at Freddy’s was compared to Ultra Custom Night, UltraCN would be only about a percent of the content that The Last Terminal at Freddy’s has, as animatronics far and wide across the FNAF community are out in it, with the original FNAF animatronics, to the FNAF AR skins and animatronic variants, to wonderful fanmade animatronic variants, to even the smallest things like the FNAF easters eggs, loading screens and such.

Even though you were excited for it, there were other followers that responded to that requests, saying that the game is probably not real, it will be cancelled, or it might cause problems like lag or a virus being installed. You, however, like the naive Let’s Play player you are, had faith and waited for this new fangame, since the anonymous requester stated that the release date is around tomorrow, late at night, the time after you streamed your playthroughs of FNAF games. As you say goodbye to your followers while you shut off the stream, you were excited! A new fangame is coming! You then go to sleep, before waking up the next day, preparing a small meal, and going to Gamejolt to check on your computer to see if it’s there.

It was! It was released around midnight, showing impressive small leaks that weren’t enough to reveal much of its contents but just enough to show small gameplay clips and pics, with one image displaying a roster with instead a width of 15 characters! You grew giddy, straight to opening the game in the process. You then dive in blind as the first thing that pops up is a title screen reminding you of the formatting of the Animators’ Hell title screen. 6 animatronics take up each side of the screen revealing a middle showing the title of the game ‘The Last Terminal at Freddy’s’. You then notice that whenever 5 to 10 seconds has passed, a random animatronic on the title screen will be replaced by another one that isn’t on it. You then press the ‘Enter’ button on the screen. The roster was huge. It seemed like it never ended no matter how far you scrolled down your mouse down. It was always filled with only roster posters of animatronics taking up the screen. You saw a setting where cheats can be turned on, where there is no system to worry about running your run, and a system where you can’t die. You turn on these cheats, set the animatronics’ AI to one, and dive into your run. After that, you were met with piles of jumpscares frame by frame, before having to purposefully ending the night by turning your oxygen mask system off.

After that, you tried some fun challenges like ‘Candy’s Franchise’, where only FNAC 1, 2, and 3 animatronics are turned on, ‘Malhare’s Invasion’, where Springbonnie and his related variants hunt you down, and ‘Hot, Hot, Hot!’, where you mostly try to make your temperature as cold as possible, trying to prevent any fire-related animatronic come into the office to kill you. You were having a lot of fun in this. So when you checked the time, you were surprised it was getting pretty late. You also realised you didn’t turn on your camera to record this. Oh well, you can do it tomorrow on stream, it’s not like you played much of it anyway. You left the game, shut down your computer, then went on the rest of your day, although you can’t help but have a small gut feeling something strange might happen, so you try to shrug it off.

A bright flash of light awoke these haunting robotic mascots in a jolt like a shock. All they now see is black. Then, a dozen random animatronics see a face through bright mist against a dark background, while the rest stayed in their blinded state. A new player? Odd. The last time they were turned on was when a darkened figure tapped something in front of them, before all of them seeing black. However, they decide to stay put, though some of them were having a glitching effect after certain time intervals, before being swapped with another animatronic. This new face seems to have a jumpy, positive expression. Curiosity gets ahold of them. Let’s see who you are.

Numerous surprises await. You seemed quite happy to be in their presence, chuckling at certain animatronics who you adore secretly, complimenting the mechanics of others, while whole-heartedly just playing the game. This is new. It’s like facing childish innocence in an adult form, all grown-up while being jolly. The positive reaction they could get from players before you were the occasional comment of how this game is only a bit good while lacking content that could improve it.

This fun lasted so long they even forget time went on. To them it’s was hours and hours of fun, but to you, it was just only a few. Then there it was again. You greeted them goodbye, before pressing something in the corner and them seeing black. Oh.

Oh.

Oh well.

That’s sad.

It seems good things don’t last very long.

And it was quite tiring to be trapped in here after a ghost child named ‘Cassidy’ and a wicked old ghoul named ‘William’, battled each other and fought and fought and fought, only to eventually trap each other in this hell.

There were whispers of the vengeful spirit Cassidy hurling insults and blames onto William while the now-turned murder ghost himself sweared under his breath that the fault and outcast of this place was the golden girl who was given a second change at life and a deep hatred for William.

Each hour, these two fought and fought, until their voices crack and choke, broken from the constant negative words hurling at each other. However, a new player came in. A new one. A vessel. One so sweet that one could have their teeth rot in an instant if this new player becomes a candy.

Cassidy and William, putting their foul arguments aside, now went to their own companions about how a new potential vessel will be there now. A vessel of a perfect, self-imagined future, with good use, with Cassidy having a plan of the destruction of William Afton himself, not caring an ounce for the other animatronics stuck in this game, while William imagines a day where he will shred and kill and burn his future victims to the ground, after getting rid of the golden girl herself first. -

Charlie: But Cassidy, isn’t this a bit too much? Your spirit has reached a state of mind where vengeance takes over your thoughts and feelings.

Cassidy: But Charlie! Look at this! We are trapped in this stupid place because he was the man who started it all! If we get our hands on that person, we will be able to rest, or even better, end Afton himself!

William: Baby, my daughter, I display a deed for you. I seem to have found an appropriate vessel. One that’s so naive that they probably won’t realise they are being controlled. All we need to do, is request Malhare for the help of controlling this vessel, and we will continue the reign of hurt and fright!

Baby (from the books): Of course, sir! May a reign of newfound terror be shown through a new vessel. Shall we start it when this little one comes on again?

These prideful spirits and trapped animatronics are torn in a constant state of acceptance and anger. However, a bigger tear will form, as one’s desires can get in the way of things. Cassidy might not see the destruction of the man who murdered her, while the murderer himself, might not see another drop of blood again. The animatronics might gain awareness slowly, while the other spirits watch from the side the chaos that they foresee and partake in. Maybe the spirits of the angered victim and the murderer might change their plans, though their results might turn out far more gruesome than before. But overall, the main thing you will notice is a fate for our dear (Name) that will not end very well for them.

Long ago, when the world was still young, thousands of boats sailed adrift into the great ocean, like nutshells floating in a pond. The people searched for the promised land in a desperate struggle for survival. One day, they washed ashore in the chilly coastlines of a strange, distant land, and knew they had found their home.

The Cerincan Isles, known as Palkíona by its inhabitants, are an archipelago located next to the coast of a landmass extending through the southern hemisphere of a yet nameless world. Over the course of many centuries, the islands came to be inhabited by a species of intelligent, bipedal canine-like beings known as Cerinques or Palkionan Cynocephali.

The archipelago lies relatively close to both the equator and the nearest continental landmass, at a shortest possible distance of around 140 kilometers from the mainland. Its climate is subtropical in the north, and gets close to being temperate in the far south, allowing for a diverse range of biomes to coexist in the archipelago: From lush subtropical jungles to vast plains to semi-arid cold steppes, the land assumes a multitude of forms, craddling some unique species that cannot be found anywhere else.

This map illustrates the isles in a modern cartographical style similarly to earth's modern maps. For reference, the archipelago occupies roughly the same area as mainland greece, of course not taking into consideration the actual land area of each of the islands. Most of the land has a subtropical climate, except for the southernmost islands, due to their close proximity to the planet's counterpart to the tropic of capricorn, at around 23 degrees south of the equator.

This means that most of the region does not have lots intense temperature variation throughout the year. The northern reaches of the archipelago have a downright equatorial climate, easily reaching around 35 degrees Celcius during the summer, and only going slightly below that during winter. Conversely, a constant cold breeze coming from the southeast coupled with its latitude make the southern islands much colder than its northern kin. While temperature may vary between 6-20 degrees Celcius throughout the year, it will hardly go below 0 or over 25. Needless to say, seasons are not very clearly delineated in this region, with only a rough separation between "summer" and "winter" seasons, the former defined by the noticeable increase in pluviometric levels.

Speaking of which, it rains rather frequently in most of the islands. While there are some noteworthy pockets of semi-dry climates, most of Palkíona has annual pluviometric volumes ranging from 1000mm to 3500mm, with most of the rain happening during the summer months, with certain regions of the archipelago going through monsoon seasons during this period. This makes most of the Cerincan isles rather humid all year-round, especially in the north. Despite this, many historical records detailing many facts of Cerincan life and history have been preserved through countless generations, be it by the means of long-standing oral traditions, or very dilligent book keeping practices. This breadth of knowledge could eventually induce the isles' inhabitants to reinvent the history and shape of their people in the form of a cerincan nation-state, or influence a sort of cultural revolution, and countercultural movements against their colonizers.

Hello Miss Raven!! So it’s unfortunately a pretty well known fact that the TWST English translation has a bad habit of botching important dialogue and lore, and even removing lines altogether, and I saw a reblog a day ago regarding that.

The original post was a fact sheet on Leona & how he interacts with women (alongside other stuff but that’s besides the point). And the reblog I was looking at was saying that the English translation just makes it sound like he’s a feminist, when it’s implied in the original JP game that the beastwomen tend to be more aggressive, giving Leona a reason to be afraid of them. And that reminded me that on the TWST fandom wiki under Leona’s trivia he said he’s intimidated by them, and every time I see that I remember that just can’t seem to find that detail at all anywhere in the English game.

So I wanted to ask you what did the original JP game say about how male and female beastmen interact with each other and why Leona would be cautious around them? Because this is a piece of info that I really would have liked to see in ENG, and I’m kind of annoyed I didn’t know about this before.

I believe this is the Leona lore post you’re referring to? Both TWST wikis (the fandom one and the .gg one) state the same trivia point about Leona being “intimidated” by beastwoman. I’m assuming this is where the reblogger picked up the idea of beastwomen being more “aggressive”, and this being Leona’s reasoning for being “intimidated” by them.

In a nutshell, the claims of Leona being a feminist only in EN + beastwomen aggression and Leona being intimidated by that is not true. The “Leona is a feminist” take was around long before the official English localization, and that’s because the Japanese text also has Ruggie (Leona Ceremonial Robes vignettes) and Cater (Cater’s School Uniform vignette) commenting that Leona is “nice” and “respectful” to women. To claim that they made Leona feminist in the localization is false. They never use the word “feminist” in JP or EN though; the label came from the fandom interpreting this bit of lore as Leona being more considerate of women.

As for the reasoning! Leona states in his Ceremonial Robes vignettes that “[Beastwomen are] already way stronger than us. Goin’ against them only brings more trouble.” I believe that someone probably misunderstood that second line of dialogue as Leona fearing the strength/aggression of beastwomen. He never actually indicates or implies that he feels that way. However, these vignettes being cited for the trivia on the wiki likely led to some confusion.

So if Leona isn’t afraid of beastwomen and their physical fitness, how is that second line supposed to be interpreted? Well, let’s think about his character. Leona is a smart guy. He dislikes having to put forth effort into pointless things, especially if he can plan ahead and avoid it. As I tend to say whenever I talk about his Big Brain Cells, Leona likes to work smarter, not harder. Again, look at this line:

“Goin’ against them only brings more trouble.”

It’s likely Leona just wanting to appease his sister-in-law to avoid having to deal with the fallout of not fulfilling her request. It would otherwise be a pain to deal with—and we’ve seen Leona act in various ways to avoid such pains. For example, he goes to Playful Land with Jack to make sure his dorm member comes back alright (or else Leona is responsible for the consequences), purposefully not choosing a vice dorm leader so he doesn’t have someone to challenge his authority, and generally has convenient excuses prepared to get out of things he doesn’t want to do.

If we want to think of it from another angle, this better fits what we already know of Leona’s cunning. He knows when to call it quits and make a strategic surrender. The most notable example of this occurs early in book 6, when he stops fighting Styx agents and willingly gives himself up to them. He also throws in the towel in book 2 and refuses to play because he already knows that his team is destined to lose to Malleus since they didn’t succeed in eliminating him beforehand. In the situation with Leona’s sister-in-law asking for a picture of him in his robes, Leona is acquiescing because that’s just the smart thing to do. Why even argue if he knows it won’t be fruitful? It’s wasted effort.

I would like to add that physical strength isn’t even the only factor here. Ruggie points out in one of his Chats that “Girls have both the grit and the camaraderie to triumph when the goin’ gets tough.” Grit refers to courage or resolve. The latter, resolve, lends credence to the idea that beastwomen are also determined or strong-willed. In which case… yeah, I don’t think they’d back down from an argument/verbal fight or a physical one.

If we circle back to the previous paragraph, it supports the interpretation that Leona giving in to what his sister-in-law wants is the result of him wanting to avoid a pointless and prolonged fight if he refuses. Cuz like… why waste that time and energy to come out of it with nothing, right?

If it was true that Leona listens to what women day only because he’s actually scared of beastwomen, then that doesn’t explain his interactions with non-beastwomen. Why would he agree to attend a party for an enchanted portrait (Rosaria), which has no means of harming him? He agreed to the proposition as soon as he heard Rosaria is a lady; there didn’t need to be a threat or significant verbal pushback for him to go. As Leona states in Cater’s School Uniform vignette, “Portrait or not, I respect ladies and Rosaria is a lady.” (I think the reblogger may have been confused and was actually referring to THIS line being made “more feminist” in EN. In JP, Leona says something closer to, “Even if it’s a portrait, a woman is a woman.” JP does not have the “I respect ladies” portion.)

Sooo, in conclusion… Leona agreeing to do as his sister-in-law says does not necessarily mean he is intimidated by beastwomen; as I’ve explained, there is an alternate explanation with evidence in canon: he wants to avoid pointless hassle.

I hope this helps to clear things up ^^ I know the localization isn’t exactly perfect, but let’s take care to not assume changes or mistranslations!

Hey, sorry for disappearing off of the face of Tumblr for uhhhh three months, but I read twelve books in that time and I'm here to complain.

1/10 - Why Did They Publish This?

Moonbeams and Ashes: Tales of Mystery, Love, and the Paranormal | Margarite Stever

I picked this up from some bookstore here in Missouri under the local authors shelf. I wish I hadn't. These stories were all poorly written, and a good chunk had nothing to do with mystery, love, OR the paranormal. They weren't even bad in the fun way.

My Mother Road | Phyllis York

I picked this up from some OTHER bookstore here in Missouri under the local authors shelf. I wished this book had ended 480 pages sooner. The only highlight was at the end when the grandpa physically kicked a guy off of the porch.

Athena's Child | Hannah Lynn

A Greek myth "retelling" centering around Medusa and intercut with Perseus. It...was just mediocre. There wasn't anything interesting about what it did or changed or told, there was no taking the myth and running in a new direction with it, and worse of all we opted for the Ovid's Metamorphoses route but still used the Greek names for the gods.

4 to 6/10 - Mid-Tier

Crossword Poems, volumes 1 and 2 | Robert Norton

Two itty-bitty volumes covering what were apparently once commonly-known poems that you'd be able to remember based on half of the hint. Decent enough stuff, just kinda boring without that historical note.

Shelling Peanuts and Other Odd Odes | Howard Nelson

Another collection of poems that were ultimately mediocre with a few funny or insightful ones. Not bad, just not especially good either.

Songs of Honour | Noble House Publishers

These were, on the whole, better than the other two, but I knocked it down to 6/10 based on the fact that it took me the entire month of July and a third of August to finish. The formatting was lovely and each poem only took a page, but it was ultimately just "good-to-mediocre" on the whole.

7 to 8/10 - Good With Caveats

Outlaw: Champions of Kamigawa | Scott McGough Heretic: Betrayers of Kamigawa | Scott McGough Guardian: Saviors of Kamigawa | Scott McGough

While I personally listed Guardian as a 9/10, I figured I should keep the entire Kamigawa Cycle together. This is the story of Toshiro Umezawa, everyone's favorite fuckup self-centered protagonist dealing with the consequences of his and everyone else's actions. There were a couple times when something was referenced that didn't make sense in the setting (such as angels, Hell, or pixies), and you can definitely feel the "early 2000s white man writing a Japanese setting based on vibes alone" emanating from most of the pages, but I had a good time calling Toshi a dumbfuck over and over again.

9/10 - Very Very Good

10/10 - Unironically Recommend To Everyone

The Tale of Despereaux | Kate DiCamillo

In my book club, we randomly pulled this one as the one for all of us to read at the same time, and let me tell you, this book hits different when you're a queer young adult in your early twenties than it clearly hit the grown women in their 50+'s. Great book, absolutely adorable, and I love the fact that we accidentally timed it to coincide with the release of Bloomburrow.

Scaredy Squirrel: In a Nutshell | Melanie Watt

Yes, this is an Easy-level book. But somehow, this squirrel with anxiety and possibly OCD (yes, I'm projecting slightly, I kept going "he's just like me for real" aloud when I read it) is now one of my favorite fictional guys. And when he was having a meltdown, the other characters actually gave him space and respected his boundaries. Do you know how impossible that is to find in fiction? One of my favorite books now, hands down.

Just Because I Carry It Well

JOB 6–9

Let me tell y’all something: if Job ain’t the most Black man in the Bible, then I don’t know who is. The Amplified Bible really let Job have his moment in full flavor when he said in Job 6:6–7:

"Can something that has no taste be eaten without salt? Is there any flavor in the white of an egg? My soul refuses to touch them; they are like loathsome food to me."

Now who but a tired, broken, and bold brother could say something like that mid-trial? Job said, “I don't do bland. Not even in suffering.” I feel him. That part of Scripture sounds like somebody’s uncle with high blood pressure who still won’t give up the Lawry's.

Then comes Job 6:22–30, and whew—Job is TIRED of his lil' raggedy friends. You can almost hear him sigh:

“Did I ever ask y’all for anything? I didn’t even want you here.”

That moment took me straight to Celie in The Color Purple during that iconic dinner scene—when she stands up, finally fed up, and says:

“Did I ever ask you for anything? Did I ever ask you for anything? I never asked you for anything! Not even your sorry [expletive] hand in marriage!”

That’s Job. Fully in his pain, tired of being misunderstood, and calling it like he sees it. Surrounded by folks who came to critique, not to comfort.

Job 7 is where we see our brother fully hit the wall. In 7:11, Job says he will not be quiet. He says he’s gonna speak from the anguish of his spirit. Come on, transparency! In 7:16, Job gets real-real and tells God:

“Leave me alone.”

Like... he’s not gonna end it all, but he’s exhausted. Then 7:17–20 comes through with that sarcastic energy, and I had to laugh through the ache. Job's like:

“What is man that you even care this much? Like, do you get joy outta checking on me and beating me down at the same time?”

Same, Job. Same.

Then chapter 8 rolls up with Bildad the Blamelessness Expert, and I just...

Why is he talking?

In 8:4, this man brings up Job’s kids.

Sir. Too soon.

This is why everyone can’t minister to the grieving. Bildad starts handing out “If I were you”s and “just seek God”s like he’s a holy Hallmark card. But 8:9 betrays it all:

“We were born yesterday and know nothing.”

And I screamed, “Well then hush, sir!” Because now you talking nonsense.

He even hits Job with that shady, backhanded, “If you are found blameless…” in 8:20–21 like God hasn’t already called Job upright. See... this is when you remember: not everybody who talks about God actually knows God.

Then we hit Job 9, and Job pivots. He’s done talking to men who can’t match his pain. He turns his words to God.

In 9:1–12, Job makes it clear: he knows exactly who he's dealing with... Thee Almighty. He’s not questioning God’s power; he’s just confused about God’s purpose. Because in 9:17–24, Job says, “This hurt is coming so fast and so hard, I don’t even know how to stand up in it.”

That line in 9:32, where Job basically says:

“I wish I could take God to court.”

...listen, if Judge Mablean Ephriam had been available, Job would've booked a slot and filed a claim. Because he’s not trying to fight God…he just wants some clarity. Some context for the pain.

And in 9:34–35, Job says:

“Stop punishing me—I would speak up, because I know my heart.”

That’s the kind of holy boldness that suffering builds. When you know you’re not perfect, but you also know you don’t deserve this much heat.

By the end of these chapters, all I could hear was Donny Hathaway’s “Come Ye Disconsolate” playing softly in the background. Job is isolated, misunderstood, and still—still—seeking God in the ruins.

And that, to me, is Black faith in a nutshell:

“Just because I carry it well, doesn’t mean it’s not heavy.”

Somewhere in Job’s lament, I see our mothers. Our grandfathers. Ourselves.

Still standing. Still speaking. Still holding on.

AndJessLikeThat… I understand Job a little more.

Only like the top four are actual rankings…the rest are just there. Quick disclaimer: this is not to say that I hate any of the other characters. Trust that it was difficult to pick. I love them all….well almost all of them. These are just the ones I listen to the most.

1. Gavin : his development was so amazing and I couldn’t help but become extremely attached to him. He cares deeply for his loved ones.

2. Avior: this man could literally write a whole book about how much he loves Starlight. He literally did everything he could to make them happy in the situation they were in.

3.Milo: I knew he would be one of my favs from the second he opened his fucking mouth. He just has this undying loyalty to his loved ones and he’d give his life for them.

4. Sam: Hurt/Comfort in a fucking nutshell. But in all seriousness, I loved how soft he was when his grumpy side would slip.

5. Guy: Chaos that I would sit and listen to for hours. I relate to how much this man yaps.

6. Elliott: sweet sunshine man that deserves the world. He is going through it and I need the universe to stop whacking him.

7. Geordi: When I say Cutie fumbled….I MEAN IT! I’m glad they’re on okay terms now but I need him to literally have all the best things in life

8.Huxley: if Freelancer didn’t end up with Gavin, I would’ve been more than happy to date Huxley. THE KINDNESS HE SHOWED FREELANCER WHEN THEY FIRST MET?! He literally held their hand to comfort them after the whole Kody thing.
