I tried drawing reeda because I love her. I have no idea what you had in mind for her design so I just re-read the chapter and went off of what your description was the best that I could. She gives me Painter vibes from pressure
Tumblr media
I LOVE THISSSSSSSSSSSSS THANK YOU!!!!!! Ford absolutely has a mini monitor like this in each room so he can see its messages!
Honestly REEDA's main design in my head fits Ford's lab, so it's a very retro cassette-futuristic style like you've illustrated. Think: how did people imagine the future was going to look in 197-something. All Commodores and IBM and thick plastic etc.
Ford's lab in mtb is designed with that exact aesthetic in mind, so terminals and things like this were at the forefront of my mind:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These types of terminals are primarily in the mainframe room that Reader goes through to access the lab. It's all set up with things like the above. Whereas REEDA's central screens in the main body of the lab look more like the ones in The Forbin Project:
Tumblr media
Except they're a mix of both of those aesthetics, so they're weirdly long CRT monitors suspended in a similar layout to the above!
Tumblr media
Here's another ss from Forbin bc it works along similar lines! And also it's a great movie and you should watch it!
#i really honestly think Ford's favourite movie is Alien#and so in mtb he just wanted a cool Nostromo type lab#and i thought the idea was funny and cute and in character so#also b u t t o n s#i think he's also incredibly nostalgic for a time he left behind and even though he dislikes tech when he leaves#he HAS to make use of it in alternate dimensions so grows a grudging acceptance for it#and i think he's AWFUL with earth tech and when he comes back and sees how minimalist everything is he hates it even more#but he's forced to engage with alien tech in his travels so he becomes used to it a bit more#and so he combines that aesthetic nostalgia with the advanced ability of alien tech#which is how he designs his lab#he prefers old-style ways of recording (his journals) but he knows he HAS to make use of digital record keeping to some extent#and he's come to understand its applications in foreign environments#so while he still records everything on paper#he utilises other aspects of tech if he has to#but he complains about it the whole time and he'd really just be happy with 8000 filing cabinets of a4 and a biro#but really considering all the information he retains and works on it means he needs a specialist set up#anyways shut UP fox we get it you like worldbuilding for this guy UGH enough#asks#ford asks#wb#mtb stuff#ALSO we do see that he makes use of tech in LL and so I think he makes himself get on with it where he has to#just to defend myself a bit#bc i know some people think he'd be very tech-phobic in general#but i disagree to a certain extent#like yes but actually also no#AND remember that Fidds installed REEDA#ford had no say in it#he just begrudgingly goes along with it and gradually learns that actually its quite useful (though he won't admit it)#anways I digress that was a real tirade for no real reason im just very passionate about Ford's experiences with alien tech

Good morning! I see you are also a fan of Killer B's (as well the Sannin, and Sakura, but those are topics for another day)! If you please, when you have the time, share your full essay about what makes B compelling to you as a character. I'll help spread the word! 🐝🐙🦬
RUBS MY GRUBBY LITTLE HANDS TOGETHER I love talking about Killer B!!
I think that Kumo's system for Jinchūriki is far better than the other villages. The idea of choosing an 'A' and a 'B' is really interesting, and I'm also just a fan of the inherent found family of choosing your own sibling. With that B then becoming the Jinchūriki, it provides far better support because there's a pre-existing love there. (On the other hand, I do think it can create a bit of a mortality crisis for the pre-existing B to know that this child is gonna replace you, but that's a topic for another day. None of the systems are perfect.)
I think that Killer B is what the rest of the villages were trying to achieve. He's the perfect Jinchūriki, and I would argue the First Real Jinchūriki in that he's really perfected it! He has control, he has a good and healthy dynamic with Gyūki, and he's really fucking powerful. And I think he was able to become this because Kumo's system encourages it.
Kumo's system both allows him more safety, given his closeness to the Raikage, and allowed him to become familiar with the idea of being a Jinchūriki and learn about it from Blue B before he inherited it. It's just... a conducive environment towards being able to approach it without being scared, which I think is absolutely imperative. (I'm not saying it was easy, by any means, but I think there's just a difference to be made when it comes to being supported by your family vs them trying to assassinate you like a certain someone.)
I really, really wish Killer B's character hadn't been one of comedic relief because I truly think he has one of the most interesting perspectives to explore, and I also just think that's he's. Really fucking cool.

Ill post a better pic tomorrow bc thats when my SCANMER ARRIVES 😁 talking about my art supplies under the cut
Testing this paper on the reverse page (page 1) with my new inks and it didnt belad at ALL i was like SICK and i just tured the fuckinf page back now and the whole piece got water on it and blured all the lines (water soluble pen) so i really dont know what to make of this paper.
Its a moleskin, my tutor recomended to givenit a try so i really dont know how to feel about that. Could handle ink right onto the page no problem (winsor and newton drawing inks, i used blue bc it was my new one and pete brown) no bleed through but flooding this page to paint on fucked up the other one?!??!?! WEIRD.
Tiniest amout of bleed on next page to a point where ut just looks like i lent on it and its a little dirty lol but thats so weird. Anyway. Paper tore up real bad bc my tape SUCKS and my good tape fell down under my bed lol

Fanbinding of Salvage by @muffinlance
This story has been on my binding list since I started learning how to bind books. It was probably the inspiration to learn even, after seeing all the really cool copies people had made already.
I've been working on this book on and off for the past month, and I've learned a lot of different things during the process. Mainly that it helps to look up tutorials for things before you actually start doing them.
It's an A4 folio (A5 sized book), is 528 pages long and about 3.5cm thick, so it's got quite a bit of weight to it. This was my first a5 book so it was very fun to make, it really feels like a real book and it lays open really nicely. It's also my first time doing a 3 piece bradel using an actual tutorial rather than just loking at a picture and going "I'm sure I can recreate that", turns out it's a lot easier following someone elses instructions, who knew lol.
Printed on sugarcane paper, hand sewn double core endbands, cover material is dubletta purple blue bookcloth, and the cover is decorated using a wrmk foil quill and silver foil.
The endbands were my second attempt at the double core style, I've done a few of a different type before but I found this method a lot easier, albeit it still took me 2hrs for each end :') I tried to match the colours to parts of the books, so the purple and turqoise(?) are from the bookcloth and the black and light blue from the endpaper.
For the title page and cover is used page borders from this shop, the title and chapter font is blackadder ITC, text font is EB garamond, drop caps are Aristokrat Zierbuchstaben and the paragraph dividers are just these emojis I found somewhere 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝.
Thanks to @muffinlance for the amazing story, it really is a work of art, and I shall enjoy having a copy on my shelf next to all my other favourite stories <3

Heavenly Body
Minthara in armor. Period.
Thanks @bloodpraxis for bullying me into drawing a proper armor and XPPen for giving me a chance to try their XPPen Deco Pro Gen2 ♡✧( ु•⌄• ) You can can use 'mynonjo5' to get an extra 5% off on the products in XPPen official store.
Below is my personal review of my new tablet (and a pic of my humble workspace)✌(‘ω’✌)

The size: I went for the XLW — the largest size and let me tell you, it's sure is one big boy. It's like working on an A3 sized paper and the tablet takes up a big chunk of your workplace. But hey, that extra space means you can really let loose with your arm swings for some dynamic lines. If that's too much to handle, don't sweat it, opt for the smaller sizes like the MW (A5) and LW (A4).
X-Remote Control: The X-Remote Control might be my favourite feature. With programmable buttons, it's a lifesaver for us shortcut maniacs. No need to reach for the keyboard any longer. The remote also works even without turning on the tablet, which is quite handy.
The Pen Case: This thing is metal, sleek, and just plain cool. Keeps your pen safe when traveling about.
The Pen: Eight extra nibs in two different types? I don't think I'd have to worry about replacements anytime soon. And with the eraser end, one less keyboard shortcut is needed.
Bluetooth: Okay, so I'm usually all about cables for a stable connection. But with my table looking like a cable jungle, Bluetooth has been a lifesaver.
Overall, loving my Deco Pro Gen2 experience so far!

(Un)Necessary Evil
I don't think I'm cut out for running my own business. I'm writing that now so the next time I convince myself I'm able to do a side hustle without burning myself out I remember that's a fuckin lie.
Anyway. Still trying to learn to love the thing I was gonna do again, but it's a process.

As you've asked for asks!:
Do you have any quick-and-dirty book/fic binding methods a terrified-of-failure novice could use to bang something out to get over the first collywobbling step of Actually Doing The Thing? (this may be something I've been meaning to ask for ages)
yes! I absolutely do! in my opinion the best quick-and-dirty bookbinding method is a no-glue pamphlet: you don't have to mess with glue or measuring or cutting anything, all you need is your text, some paper, a needle and thread. you can use the same needle to punch holes if you don't have an awl.
this is going to be a little long but that's because I'm going to write out some fairly detailed instructions for an A5 sized pamphlet. If you don't want detailed instructions and think you can glean the necessary info from photos, just skip to the photos! I've also linked tutorials.
for preparing the text to printing, in whatever software you use (word, libreoffice, gdocs, whatever) make sure your document is set to page size A5. make it look readable. then save as/export that document as a straight-paged PDF. now go to the bookbinder JS tool (https://momijizukamori.github.io/bookbinder-js/), and upload the PDF. source manipulation: none printer paper size: A4 display unit (you can ignore, or choose cm if it gives you anxiety that it automatically displays points) printer type: select single-sided or duplex accordingly* rotate paper: ignore flip on long side: check if you are printing duplex and if your duplex printer flips the paper on the long side page layout:  tick folio page scaling: original page positioning: centered ignore the rest flyfleaf: ignore signature format tick: standard signatures. in the length drop down, this depends on the type of pamphlet you are doing. for folio i generally find 4-5 pages per signature a comfortable thickness. if you have 6 whole A4 pages you can still do that as a single signature or you can split it into two signatures 3 pages each. wacky small layouts: ignore this signature info click the generate preview button to see what your PDF looks like imposed! I love this step especially when I'm doing quarto (A6) or octavo (A7) sized books generate output - click this to generate an imposed PDF
for A6 and A7 sized books the instructions are much the same, except for these you make sure the page size is A6 or A7 in your software, and then you choose quarto or octavo instead of folio. for signature length drop down I keep signature length to 1 for octavos typically and 2 for quartos, as this still refers to sheets of paper, and for octavo 1 sheet of A4 paper will turn into 4 smaller sheets in one signature once folded and cut.
*if you don't have a duplex printer you will have to manually turn the paper to print on the other side. I cannot be arsed with this so I bought a printer capable of duplex printing (I didn't have a printer anyway). if you already have a printer check what it can do as you might be surprised and go from there.
now to the pamphlets! you don't need a cover - I have one for the long stitch pamphlet but for the saddle stitch one I didn't bother and just made sure the first page had a title on it. you can always take a different piece of paper and print a cover on or or just use coloured cardstock and create a simple cover, but a cover is not necessary unless you're doing a long stitch pamphlet. all you need to do is to punch holes and start sewing. there are a few different stitch types below, I wouldn't say any of them are more difficult or easier than others, but they do look different so...pick one you like the look of and go from there?
Tumblr media
pamphlet stitch (uneven number of holes) I haven't ever done a pamphlet stitch but here's a tutorial for how to do it: https://www.starpointestudio.com/simple-pamphlet-stitch-book-step-by-step/
saddle stitch (uneven number of holes) I realised that what I was thinking of as a pamphlet stitch is actually saddle stitch, as in this A7 pamphlet:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's a tutorial for how to sew saddle stitch: https://www.bookbindingworkshopsg.com/saddle-stitch-bookbinding-tutorial/ here's a video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWHkY5jOoqM (sealemon has a lot of bookbinding tutorials and I know many people who like her videos, I used her tutorial for coptic binding way back when I first made a book but I can't otherwise vouch for the quality as I haven't used her videos)
french link stitch (even number of holes) in this one I used french link stitch which I typically use for thicker textblocks that i'm not planning to use tapes with as the french link gives it some robustness, I used it here because I had never done it before and wanted to try it out. I am planning to take these stitches out and re-sew this pamphlet with a cover now that I've found a suitable piece of transformer fanart to use as a cover:
Tumblr media
french link tutorial. it's quite long but it has a colour coded bit towards the end that shows how the thread is supposed to link which i find very helpful to visualise: https://www.handmadebooksandjournals.com/bindings/french-link-stitch-binding/
here's a video tutoral from DAS bookbinding (he is my go to for techniques and he has the most soothing Australian accent as well, though fair warning not all of his videos are for beginners): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4ZPdbaM-Ws
long stitch (even number of holes) for this one I used long stitch and I had a cover. this one is my favourite variation because I can make these pretty and simple covers and the stitch looks nice on the outside as well, so this one scratches the 'i want to make a book' itch for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's a tutorial that also includes a how to on a cover that is different from my cover: https://lccprintmaking.myblog.arts.ac.uk/files/2020/06/Long-Stitch-Tutorial-A4.pdf DAS also has a video tutorial for long stitch but it's like three videos long, maybe watch it later :'D  here's one I haven't watched but seems decent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnignTL_wDQ
you can use saddle stitch for this kind of pamphlet as well, that's what I did for dozens of ships and hundreds of souls (https://ashmouthbooks.tumblr.com/post/681587080267202560).
I hope this helped!!

Please Reblog, I'd like to design a cheap braille typewriter (prototyping by 3d printing, final design will be machined) I stumbled upon linked YouTube short and a thought: "designing 6/8 button typewriter is within my technical capabilities"
youtube
I have many design questions I wish I could test out
My roadblock is I don't know anyone who's visually impaired, and casually seeking random place to peddle my soon-to-be-invention is not something I'm capable of
Many design questions:
Paper type: what is minimal quality/density of paper for dots to be readable. Can thermal receipt paper be used for notes?
Embossed vs punched out: is that significant for the typewriter to not break paper? It's important for "undo", but that's pretty far in my building a typewriter plan
Typewriter size: My initial idea was something like a portable cash register with receipt paper spool and little tray for it to glide along (I quickly realized it's a bad design because it can't fit more than 7 characters, or I can make infinite scroll of a single line with questionable ergonomics). Ultimately is related to page size, so what would be best for it? A4 standard paper? Is being portable important?
Keyboard layout: Perkins Brallier have all it's buttons inline forming long row. Wouldn't single-hand keyboard in similar layout as braille dots be more convenient? (straight grid or mimicking angle of computer keyboard letters)
Typing feedback: should typed letter be instantly accessible and not obstructed by typewriter? Maybe typing with one hand and instantly proof-reading with another hand?
Typewriter or printer?: alternatively, I can make a little annoying-noise-making servo-powered printer that will punch out text. Arduino or Raspberry PI based (I have experience with both) It would be USB powered most benevolent printer, because it don't require ink to work
Thanks for reading! [I'm not transcribing my design scribble, because it's absolute dogshit, but it helped me formula requirements. I will add transcription to actually thought of designs]
Alternatively, if I'm tweaking right now and if that thing would be needed it would already exist, I'll go back to trying to get hired by random megacorp and that's the last time you hear of me talking about it 💀
