Manipulated AFL Rules Ruining Games

The smarty pants ex-players on the rules committee have stuffed the game of AFL. Manipulated AFL rules ruining games each week. These new rules rely so heavily on umpire interpretation that the current players have no idea WTF is going on. The stand on the mark rule, for instance, has such vagaries of application during a game with 4 field umpires individually interpreting whether a player on the mark is back 5 metres or has to freeze on the exact mark - that it is a bad joke. Factor in that during big games the players cannot hear the umpires because of the crowd noise it is beyond stupid and arcane expecting that they can. “THE AFL has sent clubs a series of videos to provide clarity on three rule interpretations for the season ahead, with a particular reinforcement of existing prior opportunity laws. The three videos – which highlighted holding the ball, high contact and insufficient intent rules – were sent by the League to clubs last week as part of a continued measure to inform players and coaches on existing interpretations.” - (https://www.afl.com.au/news/1277215/holding-the-ball-a-focus-as-afl-clears-up-rules-with-clubs-ahead-of-2025-season) AFL Rules Mystify & Enrage Players & Fans The holding the ball whilst being tackled situation and rules pertaining to it are a complete mystery to the players and the fans watching the game. The overemphasis on looking after the ball carrier has made the tackler the second rate actor in this movie. The smarty pants ex-players on the rules committee have put all their eggs in the offence basket at the expense of starving the defensive side of the game. The outcome of this is that players no longer have to legally dispose of the ball in the tackle just make an attempt. This is a transgression of the heart and soul of the game. It goes against everything we have all come to know and trust in AFL. It goes against the ethos of Aussie Rules. The upshot of this are tackles are no longer rewarded. Compound this with all the dangerous tackle anti-concussion laws now in the game and tackling is a seriously neglected art within AFL. If tacklers are not rewarded it actually creates a more dangerous situation. There will be more injuries due to these rules and interpretations of the rules. AFL Rules Changes & Umpiring Interpretations Punishing The Game The rules committee are making the game of AFL harder and harder to umpire with their meddling. I will repeat that players are having trouble hearing the umpires during games due to crowd noise. Therefore, loading up interpretative tasks to umpires with clever dick rules is a recipe for incomprehension by players and fans. Inconsistency is a confidence killer in the umpiring for players, teams and supporters. The draconian punishment for a stand on the mark infringement is a 50m penalty, which most often results in a scoring shot and possible goal. In a tight game this is massive in terms of the ultimate result of the match. Professionalism & Commercial Realities in AFL “The equation again: Australian men love sport; the money men see commercial opportunities; the players of sports like football get paid big bucks; their lives are owned by the sponsored sporting club for the duration of their careers; some young men buckle under the weight of expectation; their love of sport is sullied by the business of it; the fans scratch their heads at a situation where million dollar superstar lifestyles equates with mental illness WTF? What can we all learn from such things? “ - (https://www.golfdom.com.au/australian-men-love-sport/) Robert Sudha Hamilton is the author of The Stoic Golfer and America Matters: Pre-apocalyptic Posts & Essays in the Shadow of Trump. ©Golfdom Read the full article

Strike Zone Update Part 1: Has Umpiring Plateaued?
David Richard-Imagn Images Back in January, I wrote an article called “Unfuzzing the Strike Zone.” The premise was pretty simple. As umpires have grown more accurate, as the edges of the strike zone have gotten clearer and more distinct, the strike zone has effectively gotten smaller. Misses go both ways, but there’s a big difference between an incorrectly called ball and an incorrectly called…

Clark Pines AU random headcanons
-sometimes Stan and Ford pull the "switch clothes and talk differently to see if anyone can tell the difference" trick to mess with the twins, and they fall for it a solid 35% of the time, but Clark never falls for it because he can hear their hearts and Ford's heart is FUCKED UP due to the gazillion volts of electricity he got during weirdmageddon
-Clark almost didn't go to college to stay and work at the Shack and maybe convince his dad to finally let him help with the portal, but Stan recognized Clark was smart af and didn't want Clark to be held back for his sake. And then Stan had twenty crises in a row when it came time for Clark to actually Go To College
-Clark has to wear (reading) glasses but he doesn't like the feel of them so he usually just carries them around and wears them as infrequently as possible. And then his entire secret identity becomes "put on glasses" so he has to wear them all the time and he's REALLY MAD about it
-Clark was originally going to college for some sort of mechanics/engineering degree, but once he left Gravity Falls, he realized just how weird his hometown is. Like, he was theoretically aware, but the guy lived there his whole life. He left a few times to visit the twins and their parents or for miscellaneous other reasons but he never really lived outside of Gravity Falls for any amount of time. So it kinda hits him how different The Real World (for lack of a better term) is, and he decides to switch to communications/journalism major instead. Also, he was not very good at engineering.
-The Mystery Twins are approximately the same age as Robin!Dick so they become pretty good friends over the years. Mabel has a gigantic insane crush on Dick and Dick has a tiny baby crush on Dipper and everybody is oblivious about everything except for Bruce and Clark, who have to silently suffer together about the situation until everyone gets over it.
-Dipper gets really into magic and spells and stuff as he gets older so he becomes Clark's go-to "there's weird shit happening and it's not the genre I usually deal with" person. It isn't his life's work like with Constantine or Zatanna, so he isn't a JLDark member or anything, but he definitely Knows Some Shit.
-I'm cooking something along the lines of "Mabel becomes the youngest congresswoman ever at age 18" simply because I think it would be funny and because nobody ever acknowledges how that one frozen president technically made Mabel a congresswoman in that one episode.
-You know how Jon Kent is named that after Clark's Canon Dad Jonathan Kent? Clark tries to name his kid "Stan" after his dad and uncle and both Stanley and Stanford are like don't you FUCKING dare, we have enough Stans in this family, please give your son a better name dear god
-When the Young Justice team (yj98, NOT yjtv) forms, there's a running bit where they keep fucking running into either Mabel or Dipper on every other mission, except none of them know they're Superman's cousins so they think these two weirdos are trying to do Evil Stuff when in fact they're just living their lives, and these lives happen to be absolutely insane enough to keep crossing over with teenage superhero shenanigans.

Sydney Swans Took One Small Step

The Sydney Swans took one small step toward recovery in 2025. Yes, the red and white team recorded a victory over Richmond, last year’s wooden spooner. It was a match between the 2024 minor premiers and the bottom side of that season. Of course, a year or 6 months is a long time in AFL footy. It was great to have Harry Cunningham back in the team for the first time in 2025. It was like having an adult in the 18 out on the ground who knew what to do and how to go about his business. Similarly, Callum Mills played his second game of season 2025 and was solid for most of the afternoon. Swans Not World Beaters Yet Having too many kids in the side becomes a vulnerability, especially as the season progresses and their form wanes at times. The Swans did not look like world beaters by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a step in the right direction. Nick Blakey was really good all day in so many areas of the game – best player on the ground, I think. James Jordan kicked 3 goals and shut down the Tiger who loves to lift his arms in the tackle Nick Vlastuin. Hey, umpires open your eyes, the arm lift in the tackle is so bloody obvious, especially when a player does it 8 or 9 times. The 4 umpires were iffy at best; gee the standard of AFL umpiring has been ordinary this season! Sydney Victory Over Tigers An Improvement “An unanswered 10-goal run from Sydney resulted in the 11.14 (80) to 4.12 (36) victory.” - (https://www.afl.com.au/news/1336972/sydney-swans-regain-mojo-with-demolition-of-hapless-richmond-tigers) James Rowbottom was huge with a dozen tackles and his contest and pressure were awesome all day. He shut down the Tiger’s best player in the first quarter, Dion Prestia, too, for the remainder of the game. Brody Grundy got the better of Nank and he, Grundy, just got better as the match progressed. Aaron Francis was handy up forward. Hayden McLean played a solid game too. Gerard Healey reckons McLean needs to widen his stance in the marking contest to provide the anchoring required not to get pushed out of the way so easily. Do they have technique coaches at the Swans? The Swans desperately need more aerial presence around the ground and up forward. Tom McCartin was the best Swan in the air and played one of his best games in defence. Riley Bice looks better on a wing than at half back – wingers can be more attacking without having to defend as much. “Cox provided some "tough love" to his troops following the deplorable defeat, and although Saturday's clash with Richmond started nervously, the Swans restricted the Tigers to one goal after quarter time.” - (https://www.zerohanger.com/sydney-coach-lauds-midfielder-for-selfless-role-as-troops-set-to-return-following-bye-163622/) Chad Warner and Isaac Heeney were good without being great. Angus Sheldrick played well and was tough in the contest too. Sheldrick needs to improve his ball use going forward. It was a good team effort from a struggling side playing on the MCG, where a lot of bad memories must reside. Swans have a bye next week. “The Sydney Swans can ill afford to lose another game in 2025. Quite apart from finals becoming out of reach, what about the rapidly expanding lack of respect from the competition? “ - (https://wordsforweb.com.au/sydney-swans-can-little-afford-to-lose/) Robert Sudha Hamilton is the author of The Stoic Golfer and America Matters: Pre-apocalyptic Posts & Essays in the Shadow of Trump. ©WordsForWeb Read the full article
