Caretaker groggily awoke bound to a chair. They groaned as they raised their head at their surroundings. The first thing they saw was whumpee across from them tied to a chair in similar fashion. They were gagged and unconscious, blood coated the side of their face and hair.
"Whumpee!" Caretaker shouted, trying to jerk out of their restraints.
"They're alive." Whumpers voice soothed. They stood behind whumpee and stroked the side of their face.
"I admit, their head got hit far too hard. I hoped they would be awake by now. Especially now." Whumper sighed while caretaker stared in wordless horror.
"But worry not! We'll get them checked out." Whumper chirped, pulling a chair next to whumpee, who still didn't move.
"After- you've answered all my questions, of course."

How to Make Caretaker's Heart Sink
Something that made Caretaker's chest sink and feel heavy and painful
When Caretaker saw Whumpee for the first time after disappearing for a long time, he was very weak and even unconscious,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee lying still on his bed, too sick and tired to even open his eyes and make a sound,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee's weak hand, he moved around looking for Caretaker's hand because he didn't want to leave it,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee, who struggled because he was uncomfortable, he tried to remove the medical device while he was in a semi-conscious phase,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee, who had to be helped even just to drink,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee screaming in fear in the middle of the night,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee, who was uncomfortable while sleeping, moving restlessly in his delirium
When Caretaker saw Whumpee's blank stare,
When Caretaker bathing and putting clean clothes on Whumpee,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee crying silently,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee, who was confused about the things he had forgotten due to trauma,
When Caretaker heard Whumpee groan in pain while sleeping,
When Caretaker heard weak words from Whumpee's mouth, like "Hurt" "Water "Help me" "I can't breathe" "My body feels heavy" "My head feels spinning",
When Caretaker felt Whumpee's weak and thin body in her arms,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee's body, which was covered in bandages and bruises,
Is there anything else to add?

Whumper stole Whumpee's spell focus before tying them up and torturing them. At some point, Whumpee managed to sneak their spell focus back, and with their remaining energy, cast a teleportation spell.
Whumpee's body started to flicker, disappearing just as Whumper reached out to grab them. Exhausted and dizzy, their vision faded as they landed in the only place they were sure was safe---Caretaker's living room.
Needless to say, Caretaker wasn't thrilled to have Whumpee appear on their carpet unconscious, tied up, and in a pool of blood, but they'd have to save the questions until after Whumpee woke up.
For now, Caretaker settled for pulling Whumpee up onto the sofa and trying to bandage them as best they could. The more they worked on Whumpee, the more injuries they found. And they were bizarre injuries too, such as burns in odd shapes and cuts that seem to spell out words or runes. What already looked like a bad enough situation from the beginning revealed itself to be worse and worse, leaving Caretaker wondering who the hell would even do something like this to Whumpee in the first place.
"Shh... Yeah, I know it hurts. Poor thing." Caretaker stroked Whumpee's hair, trying to soothe them as they cried out incoherently with each sting of antiseptic.
The two of them admittedly hadn't spoken in a while, but as soon as Whumpee was lucid, Caretaker was determined to draw the whole story out of Whumpee, no matter how long it took. Someone had made a big mistake hurting Whumpee like that, and Caretaker was going to make sure they'd regret it.

Whumptober #16
Trope of the day: wound cleaning
_
Everything is a bloody mess.
Whumpee is still unconscious, which of course makes a bit easier for Caretaker to clean them up. They gingerly peel off their shirt, dried and fresh blood soaking it.
Whumpee's torso is a bloody mess.
Cuts and burns, not even a pattern. Just so many wounds. Caretaker looks at Whumpee's still face, cleaning up the dried blood on it first. They still look bad, but not as dead.
Everything is a bloody mess.
The bed, their hands, the cloths they use to clean up everything and get a better view on the wounds, which Caretaker cleans if needed. The older ones need more attention to not get infected, newer ones are bandaged to stop the bleeding first.
A sigh escapes Caretaker when they are finally done, washing their hands and getting something fresh to change into. They ask one of the team members to help them move Whumpee to a clean bed.
Their entire room is a bloody mess.
But at least Whumpee isn't anymore.

Whumpee falls into/is thrown into a well. Caretaker jumps after them. Whumpee has hit their head and falling unconscious while Caretaker struggles to keep both of them afloat. The battle continues above them, on the ground. Caretaker can only hope their side wins, and does it quick, because they can't keep swimming forever. Not with now passed out Whumpee in their arms. The walls of the well are slippery, and there isn't enough space to get on their back and float. They're quietly begging Whumpee to wake up as blood runs down their face somewhere from under their hair.
Minutes pass, and Caretaker haven't got enough air in their lungs to yell for help. Their limbs are burning, water's spilling in their mouth. The sounds from above are fading, and Caretaker doesn't know if they're just dying or if the fight is over.
They can only see someone peeking into the well, but can't tell who it is, a friend or an enemy, because they only appear as a dark silhouette against the sun.

Caretaker was beside whumpee when they woke up. Caretaker immediately broke into tears, hugging and sobbing "You're awake! You're finally awake! I was so worried about you!"
Whumpee stiffened in their arms, mumbling "How... How long was I asleep?..."

What Caretaker Said?
What did Caretaker say to Whumpee?
"Shhh shhh. It's okay. It's all over," Caretaker said to the struggling Whumpee.
"Look at me, hey, look at me," Caretaker said so Whumpee wouldn't see the wound.
"Welcome back, Whumpee," said Caretaker to Whumpee who had just woken up from a coma.
"You'll get better soon, I promise," said Caretaker while gently stroking Whumpee's cheek.
"It was just a nightmare, Whumpee. It's okay," said Caretaker while hugging the shaking Whumpee.
"Welcome home, Whumpee!" said Caretaker as she pushed Whumpee's wheelchair through the door.
"I'll help you clean up, okay? It's okay; just tell me if you're uncomfortable, and I'll come right out," said Caretaker as she sat Whumpee in the bathtub.
"It's okay. We will return your weight to normal. Just take it slow," said Caretaker to Whumpee who was fixated on the reflection of his thin body.
"No, Whumpee. Please don't, you need it," said Caretaker while holding Whumpee's hand which was trying to pull out the medical equipment.
"Okay, okay, inhale slowly, hold it, and exhale. Yes, good. Keep doing that. In and out," said Caretaker to Whumpee who was panicking to the point of having difficulty breathing.
"I know you don't like it, but you have to take medicine, Whumpee. You want to get better quickly, right? Look, your medicine has been reduced since last week," said Caretaker who was trying to persuade Whumpee who was sulking because he didn't want to take his medicine.
"Oh, look at it! Your wound is getting better day by day!" Caretaker spoke cheerfully as she changed Whumpee's bandages.
"Slow down; you'll choke," said Caretaker as she helped Whumpee drink.
"Oh, you're awake, Whumpee. How did you sleep?" said Caretaker to Whumpee who had just woken up.
"I'm not going anywhere, Whumpee. I'm here," said Caretaker to Whumpee who was half conscious and kept calling her.
"This is porridge. The doctor said you can eat a little bit. It might taste bland, but try it first, okay?" said Caretaker while carrying a tray containing Whumpee's first food after getting better.
"It's okay. Tell me when you're ready. I'll wait," said Caretaker to Whumpee who was still afraid to say everything he had experienced.
"Oh, God! I thought I was going to lose you!" said Caretaker gratefully to Whumpee who was conscious.
"Hm? Well, I guess a little snack before dinner would be fine. There's chocolate and chips in the pantry. Which would you like? Both? Fine. Let me get it," Caretaker said with a laugh when Whumpee very rarely asked for a snack before dinner.
"There, it's done! Clean and fresh!" said Caretaker happily after finishing bathing and dressing Whumpee.
"Give me a name," said Caretaker angrily when she saw Whumpee covered in wounds in front of her.
"What? I won't leave you. Who said that?" Caretaker said she was confused when she asked why Whumpee was crying when she got home.
"I'm glad you're getting better," said Caretaker while stroking Whumpee's hand.
"Okay, try to catch your breath. The morning air is very good for helping your recovery," said Caretaker as she invited Whumpee to sunbathe in the morning.
"You've been sleeping for too long, Whumpee. Was your dream so beautiful that you didn't want to wake up? Was I there too? You know, I really miss you," said Caretaker to Whumpee who was lying in a coma.
"I'll accompany you until you fall asleep. Don't worry, I'll also be here when you wake up. So, go to sleep, okay?" Caretaker spoke gently as she put the exhausted Whumpee to sleep.
"Just rest; you deserve that. Don't think about anything," said Caretaker as she slowly laid Whumpee down.
"I love you, Whumpee," said Caretaker while kissing Whumpee's forehead.
Anything you want to add?

I don't know if this 100% falls under whump, or if it's just asexual somnophilia, but I love various types of guards being nonlethally taken down by sneaky figures in black. I'm going to describe two scenarios, one male and one female, and the male one is first because I know some of you are uncomfortable with female whumpees.
A dude's just strolling through the museum, thinking about his midnight lunch break, when there's a sudden sting in the side of his neck and he grabs at it only to come away with a red-fletched metal dart in his hand.*
He makes some kind of confused remark ("The Hell - ?") and grabs for his radio, but it slips out of fingers that suddenly feel fat and uncooperative. An arm slides around his waist as his knees give, and then the blast of euphoria hits his brain and everything feels great. He gapes at a blurry figure above him, heavy-eyed, as he starts to float.
"Everything is all right," a gentle voice tells him. "You can go to sleep."
He doesn't remember why anything would be wrong with that. He doesn't even remember to fight it. He slides off into a warm, happy dream as his entire body goes limp.
Another guard is patrolling some warehouse full of crates whose contents she knows nothing about when something clatters off to her left. She spins toward it, drawing her weapon, only to realize there's a canister spewing white smoke rolling toward her feet. She holds her breath as she turns to try and get out of range, then twitches and gasps at another noise from directly in front of her. It's another canister, and she's just taken a deep breath of something that burns slightly and smells like chemical roses.
She janks right and runs between the tall shelves, but her entire body feels heavy and odd. She realizes she forgot to try and hold her breath again. She can see the roses now, hovering all around like a magic thicket. Something hits her right side, and she realizes it's the shelf. Where'd the weapon go? She must have lost it in the thicket. The smell of roses is so strong and she feels so tired, suddenly. Something bumps into her knee. It's the floor. She fumbles at the shelving, but it's like she's being pulled toward the center of the earth, like gravity is so much stronger than before.
She slides over sideways. A hand catches her so she doesn't bang her head, lowering her to the floor. There's something dark above her, but she can't see it clearly.
"Thanks," she mumbles.
"You're welcome, dear. Shh, now." A hand strokes her hair. It feels lovely, lights up her whole head and spine like a rainbow with soft, sleepy tingling. She stretches her legs and shivers involuntarily, overpowered by the feeling, and as it fades, she fades with it. She's never slept as well as she will on that concrete floor tonight.
*There are no human trank darts irl. There's no consistent way to administer a correct dosage, and basically no substances knock a person all the way out for long without paralyzing breathing. With animals this is less of a concern because they don't have to be unconscious, just too groggy to resist being tagged, medicated, loaded into a truck, etc. And real trank darts are a very specific design that looks like an awkwardly long syringe to accommodate the rocker membrane that does the injection on contact. But I am willing to suspend disbelief on the fake metal movie dart with the little red feathers, because I like it. I'm willing to just make up fantasy meds.

Whump ABC #21 - Unconscious
Based on the results of this poll.
_
Caretaker looks at whumpee's pale face, their finally chest moving up and down in a steady and slowed rhythm. They hyperventilated only minutes ago, the pain too much to bear. But the exhaustion and pain caught up and whumpee collapsed into caretaker's arms, limp... almost like a doll.
They know whumpee isn't sleeping, despite the almost peaceful image betraying them of the severeness of the situation.
They know they need to get whumpee to a safer space as soon as possible, but right now, they can't risk it.
Caretaker knows it's risky, but they still speak to whumpee's unconscious body in front of them, hoping they don't hear the proclamations of utter fear and love for them. Whumpee's a light sleeper, so caretaker would never dare to do this if they slept.
Brushing a strand of hair away, they swallow hard and sigh. "As much as I like the thought of you getting some rest.. I really need you to wake up again."

i am begging we incorporate more head injuries into writing
tw: head injuries / coma
A leaning their head on B's shoulder and B only noticing when A stops replying to them
A simply laying on their bed and crying, in too much pain to tell anyone why
A seems to finally go to sleep after much protest, however when B tries to rouse them they discover A to be totally unconscious
A is in an induced coma to reduce swelling on their brain

Month 1 - Week 1 - Day 1: What was your first experience with whump?
TW: Drowning + Unconscious Whump
My first experience with whump was when I was a very young kid. I don’t know exactly when, I just know it started after I watched the Three Musketeers with Mickey Mouse in it.
Specifically the scene where Captain Pete chained him down in that dungeon ? i honestly don’t know where they were and Mickey drowned. Almost. He went unconscious and stopped breathing. Then Goofy and Donald came and saved him.
This was most of the whump I had seen growing up: characters going or being knocked unconscious. Of course, at the time, I didn’t know that was called whump. This was also the first whump troupe I ever considered a favorite. Especially since that was in a lot of my favorite shows and movies as a kid. It was also one of the coolest things to see on screen to me at that time because it was done in different ways.
Watching Kwazii fall unconscious after accidentally hitting himself in the head? Cool! Watching Wallace slip into unconsciousness after saving Gromit? Amazing!
Even now, I still hold unconscious whump close to my heart because you can never go wrong with that.

Whumpee's only semi-conscious when they're rescued. Caretaker tries desperately to hug them, but whumpee doesn't have energy to lift their arms; so caretaker half-drapes them across their chest in their lap to get to hold them.
