"Believe in Me: Insights of a Nonspeaking College-Bound Autistic" by Rachel Kripke-Ludwig
The district's Content Specialist questioned the value of an academic education for someone like me who will always need support and who could not produce the full volume of assignments at the time. She felt my mothers should be realistic and give up on the idea of a diploma. She recommended enrolling me in social and life skills studies. I needed help with life skills, but killing my motivation was not the answer. When I have opportunities that I do not want to miss, my self-regulation improves. After a year of lessons at home to catch me up academically, I had demonstrated my capacity, but because my old school did not want to adapt, they did not want to serve me anymore. I had to find another solution.
When I changed schools, my disability did not change. The people who were around me did. They believed in me. Matt could see that I was doing grade-level work. He and my teachers thought that college was something I could realistically learn to manage if in a supportive university. But the thought of navigating a college campus and sitting in a lecture hall was inconceivable to me. I was, and still am, nonspeaking, impulsive, and need to move to pay attention.
It was the unconscious biases of special educators that held me back. They were taught that I cannot learn, so they did not provide grade-level lessons. But I can and must learn everything other kids do. Knowledge is power. Keeping me from information disempowers me and causes anxiety. It guarantees my second-class status.

New hard rule any woman should enforce ever is if you’re dating a guy and he says he watches red pilled alpha male podcaster content or shows support of it in ANY way (ie something covert like “I don’t like his personality but he makes some good points” ) you go GHOST. I know women are taught to “accommodate ppl’s flaws” but literally this is a misogynistic cult right in the public eye and it’s all fun and games until a woman gets murdered for existing (which has literally happened as a result of Tate’s content)

the thing is like. of course cobel invented severance. of course the girl who spent her whole childhood doing backbreaking labor in a fume-choked factory from sun-up to sundown would dream of a way to erase the memory of the aches that came from hours spent stirring a vat. of course the girl who never had a work-life balance because lumon owned every aspect of her world would want to force that separation into existence. of course she sold her soul to the company store and immersed herself in the teachings of kier and earned every single thing she accomplished through dedication and industry. and of course jame eagan took credit for it all.

One of the great things about fandom is that sooner or later you will think to yourself: I would never write/read x kind of story, I would never ship x kind of pairing, I would never do whatever fandom thing, and then, if you stick around long enough, you will 100% become a clown of your own making. It’s inevitable and I love it.

Most of all, being able to communicate meant I had a brain with independent thoughts and desires that no one but me owned. It was wonderful to finally be acknowledged as Niko and not as my mom’s son with autism or as that client someone saw twice per week. It was like starting a brand-new life with powers that I had only dreamt about. I can’t describe it in any other terms except that it was a miracle.
And the biggest miracle of all was being treated with respect and dignity. From having no voice to suddenly being a full-fledged member of my school community and family was a drug that has fueled me to making the most of every day. I cannot take anything for granted because I know what it’s like not to have anything at all.

it is not a buyout and it is incredibly frustrating the media has spun it as such. it is a scare tactic to get us to "resign" so he can obliterate the federal workforce bc he cannot just fire 75% of us like they want. they want to make the government appear inefficient so they can argue that it always was and then privatize everything for their own profit. they do not care about the average citizen. they do not know what it means to be a public servant and they have villainized us for simply doing our jobs for the taxpayers. they only care about deepening their pockets.
this last week and a half has been exhausting and terrifying. federal workers just want to do our job and help the people despite the constant villainization and utter hatred we receive from the general public.
I do not plan to give in and give them what they want, but I am miserable and utterly exhausted. while my closest friends try to show support, without working in government it is so hard to fully understand, especially going off of headlines.
the every day federal worker is not your enemy. most of us became public servants bc we love the work that we do. and we just want to do our jobs.
