Ultimately shipping is so silly, like it just boils down to whether or not you vibe with the pair. Like I can list a bunch of reasons why rafesofia is good and makes sense (just have a scroll through my blog I have made many a post about it😭) and why other ships are bad and don’t. But like it’s not that deep and if you wanna ship riara you can, you don’t have to like rafia!!

But for meeeee, I like their vibe– I eat up the Sweet Lovely Girl and Awful Loser Man dynamic every time. And I think a lot of the fandom are holding Sofia to such a high standard for what they wanted her character to be– like the concept of “Rafe Cameron’s love interest” has been churned around so much post s1-2, from x readers, x oc, rarry, riara– it felt like Sofia would had to have encapsulated all of those different facets for people to like her/like her relationship with Rafe. (Which is impossible. I genuinely think the consensus of her character would be the same even if she had a whole different personality).

I lowkey don’t care, like she’s her own character, she’s engaging– people have just wrung out Rafe sm (not saying this is bad) that it feels like whatever he does in canon will pale in comparison to fanon, thus making everyone disengage with Sofia, cuz they either ship themselves with Rafe or ship another character with him. So like I cba to care about shipping discourse because there’s no conclusion.

But since you so graciously asked my opinion:

I loveeee the double betrayal plotline. Like him and her both selling each other out in different ways. Like waiting for his reaction to her ‘betrayal’ after part 1 was the thing I was most anticipating. Would he hurt her? Would he hear her out? The dynamics people, the dynamics!

I love how Rafe’s past kinda looms over their relationship– like a lot of people kinda hate that she knows nothing and say he needs someone to ‘match his freak’. But idk…I like how there’s this unspoken threat that Sofia is unaware of (yes, that threat is Rafe, or the threat of her finding out the truth) And what makes it even better, he doesn’t even clock the capacity he has to hurt her (in all the ways). Like they’re both grasping onto this idealistic relationship they carved out, free from the binaries of Kildare, free from the rumours surrounding Rafe– it was never going to last, but that doesn’t make what they had any less real :( the proposal scene which everyone hates😭 was indicative of that to me– they both so desperately want to stay in the honeymoon phase. But they let their separate insecurities (rafe being with a pogue and Sofia feeling unwanted) fester and infect their relationship, giving way for Hollis, Groff, Ruthie, basically anyone who tried, to push them to ruin what they had.

I loveee how it seems they exist in their own little bubble when they’re just with each other. The natural ‘I love yous’, the intense eye contact, the constant touches and proximity. But then how that suddenly flips when they’re in public. They’re both different, both wearing a mask in front of the kooks. Rafe slips into this erratic role, slips back into arrogance. Whereas Sofia loses her spark, she observes, she tails Rafe. Like she understands that he’s putting on an act, and she doesn’t mind it, and he knows that she’ll put up with it. I’m so obsessed with their weird, codependent bond mannn😫!!!

(If you love Sofia sm why do you want her to be in that position? I hear you ask– what part of sweet girl and awful man did you not understand? Like yeah she’s disrespecting herself/he’s disrespecting her– but it’s not intentional…they’re both so ashamed (in different ways) but they find acceptance and respect with each other and I eat that kinda stuff up)

And I hate how for every other Rafe ship it’s standard to inflate headcanon and give depth. But when rafesofia shippers do it it’s delusion and seeing things that aren’t there? Like it’s undeniable his relationship with Sofia is different with anyone else’s (and yeah you can just ignore her character and chalk it up to writers just wanting to throw Rafe a girlfriend– “Rafe would never be nice to a girl, he’s crazy”…like c’mon– we really being that reductive? Just work with what you’re given, which is the ethos the whole obx fandom carries for the characters, but when it comes time to do that for Sofia, there’s just crickets and critique :/)

And yeah I love Fiona too!! In the same way people dick ride (yeah I said it) Rafe/Drew.

Art process and rendering tutorials pls 🙏🙏🙏🙏

okay please bear with me as I try explain the incomprehensible mess that is my art process (I tried to take screenshots thr the entire process). Im gonna use this post while explaining (btw i use krita). Most of my 'process' is me fucking around and finding out im sorry

First I start by filling in the background colour and basic elements with the lasso fill tool and the fill block brush (a square brush). I dont know how much of a tutorial you want but I tilted the whole thing to make the composition more interesting. Id say try to have some foreground and background elements to the drawing makes it more dynamic (even if its just a shadowy shape in the front it adds alot). Also i always start with the background colours first so i can set the mood for the rest of it yknow

Then I add some line art on to it (on a diff layer) and actually draw the details of the character (which is the focus) using the fill block brush again (thats my main brush just assume i use it for almost everything) Oh and also i delete the orange shape of the character i used, and also messed with the brightness settings for the background to fit the vibe more

Then on a layer beneath the lines i do the base colouring (both background and character and try to seperate the figures a bit and figure out the colours.

Next is shading. I add a new later set it to multiply and choose a colour which fits (in this case green and orange i think) I use the waterpaint hard edges brush for this. This is normally where i wing the lighting situation but uh this piece didnt really have a complicated one? so its just in the obvious places (ie. underneath the tree, underneath the hat etc). make sure your shadows kinda dont remove the focus from the character by either making it too dark or too light around there? Idk if that makes sense im trying to give advice

Okay now rendering which i will try give a tutorial: I merge all my layers and make a new one on top and just go in with the fill block brush. I use the colour picker alot during this. This is where i smooth out the lines by colouring over them or thickening them depending on what looks nice (I think line variation is pretty important, id say thicker=darker and thiner=lighter) I also add hatching to my shadows and outline them with a darker colour (makes it look better ithink), just in general i fix up the shapes, add shadows for contrast/form/perspective and also a few textures (the treebark). Im sorry this isnt really helpful i just countinue to go over my lines and proportions using a basic brush and the colour picker till its nice

okay for this drawing i added effects (normally not there in my art) so ill explain what i normally do: I take one of my old art pieces (preferably with at least some interesting vibes) and liquify and warp it to resemble the effect i want

Then I mess with all the colour adjustment curves till it looks liek the colours i want

Then i blur it slightly to get a softer look and add some details (stars and all).

After that i use some multiply and add layers to make the colours more interesting (with an airbrush and using matching colours to the piece). Then is my favourite trick which is to merge ALL the layers and duplicate it and gaussian blur it (around like 20-50 percent idk) and set it to a lower opacity. Then i erase the parts in focus (the character) it just gives a softer look as well as bring more focus to the character. I just outline couple things with a light colour and im done :)

Hopefully there was SOMETHING in there but i dont thinkk any of that was useful

Astro Observations (Sag placements)

-Sag moons are some of the most interesting people I have met. Like as a Virgo moon I could tell you what someone has done to irritate me or whatever and I will say why and how. Unless it's about someone that I feel very private about already because then I will roughly dance around the things that that person makes me feel and all that jazz. But I don't think you can really egg on a sag moon to talk shit about someone like unless the person that you are talking about is included into the conversation somehow (I mean physically standing there ya know?). Most sag moons I think know exactly what someone does that irritates them but they kinda just go "people change all the time and I might not even really know this person fully or why they do what they do, so I can't really judge them without that information..." Which I do admire because there is an air of optimism and a chill vibe to it. I think as a sag mars I could not really emulate that same vibe that a sag moon does when talking about someone who has done them horribly. I love sag moons bro I just love them so much and I think it's the possible conjunction between my mars and their moon that can influence that sometimes but other times there is no conjunction but I just love sag moons.

I can go on and on about my admiration for sag moons but I feel like you could just watch some clips of celebrities with sag moon or even just meeting a person with a sag moon and man I could only explain so much of the vibes and energy that sag moons give off.

-Sag suns are a hit or miss for me. Most I have met are either super cool and give off the hippie vibe. ORRRR..... they are the most wild people I have met. As someone who has a lot of fire placements...one sag placement will make you wild in a different way than the other fire signs. For instance, having an Aries or Leo placement will not immediately give you a wild card trait but one sag placement will make you the wildest person imo. The best way I can explain it is that I have met people who have one Aries placement or even one Leo placement and they can be either chill or wild. But somehow every sag placement I have met are some of the most interesting and wildest people I have ever met. People will talk about how chill sag placements are and I disagree bruh. Idk what sag placement people you are meeting but every single one is so odd and interesting to me. Like it doesn't matter if you have a Capricorn moon if you have a sag mercury you will say some of the most unhinged shit I have ever heard (and I'll demand more). Again I'm saying this as a sag mars so I could be biased here but bruh no fire placement takes my interest so quickly for a person like sag does. I have met people with an Leo sun and an Aries moon and mars BUT their sag mercury friend will permeate my mind. anyways moving on lol

-Sag mercuries will say some random shit and I will lecture them about that shit...and yet I will never tell them to shut up. Sometimes they say shit just to say shit or even to just get a reaction out of you. I don't know why but it's a moment. I think they think they are slick about it too or they know how obvious it is and do it on purpose. Either way I'm pretty sure that I enjoy sag mercuries is the fact that most times it lands it my fifth house (the literal house of pleasure) so yeah.

-Sag risings are bad bitches...yeah that's it do you need something more tho??

Anyways I didn't say anything about sag Venus just because I don't know too much about them so yeah. Sag placements for me are fun to be around but that doesn't mean that I get along with them. In fact I'm pretty sure I have had the most arguments with sag placements but somehow they don't make me feel anger like other people without sag placements have. Sometimes they just cause me pain that I never really have fully understood. They just hit my weak spots in my soul. I can't really explain it too much right now ya know? It's kinda difficult to explain so yeah. Let me know what you guys think and tell me some of your experiences with a sag placement I would love to know.

I think the best way to put this is that people fail to make it interesting the second they stop approaching it as they would a crack ship. There's this weird... IDK a "comfort in familiarity" with a specific set of characterizations and dynamics, and everyone is mirroring the rest of the ship fics, and there's no SPARK. There's this expectation that people will fill in the blanks with The General Assumptions and then it's just... IDK, lazy?

I never know how to explain but it's sort of just the same issue I usually have with fandom juggernauts. A boiled frog but the "boiling" is the autocannibalism of Vibes.

Maybe I just read too many fics and now everything feels repetitive, but I don't think so, because I'm not having that issue with Obikin or Anidala.

omg i haven’t written much for ihm reader yet but i already ADORE her so so so much based on what i’ve got planned for the series, and i think i understand her the most of the oc’s i’ve made. she is someone that gets crazy tunnel vision, can only really focus on one thing at a time, often neglects her other responsibilities if it means getting The Main One done, she is hella jaded because of all the financial stress, work stress and caretaking stress which means she doesn’t have much of a filter anymore, she’s very cynical and pessimistic and easily irritated and prideful BUT…..deep down she’s a huge softie and is actually very self aware of her flaws n just really wants to get better but she just can’t find a moment to breathe…im gonna enjoy writing for her bc i think she’ll come off irrational and a bit over the top at times, but in those soft moments, she’ll be very down to earth :)

aww i haven’t had too much written for ial reader yet, but in my head i picture her as a veeeery soft spoken, sweet natured woman in her older age (she’s engaged to nanami, who i imagine has mellowed her out in comparison to when she dated bad boy choso lol), idk i think she’s kind of basic 😭 not that that’s a bad thing at all, i kinda wanted that dynamic of crazy rock star lifestyle choso mixed w simple lifestyle reader (for when they meet again later in life). when she was younger, she was highly impressionable, often thought she was more mature than she actually was, n loves veeeerryy deeply, so much so to where old scars hurt even after years and years. i think she always tries to do the right thing, but bc of her conflicting emotions, she has the capacity to cause a lot of hurt

i think kickoff reader is the most confusing in my head, but i like it that way because i suppose she’s the youngest and she’s in college and it makes sense for her since she’s figuring herself out

i definitely do see myself in all of them!! i have certain attributes i share n some that i don’t. for example i don’t think i’m as brave as kickoff reader (to pursue passions or confess to a boy so brazenly or slap tf outta someone at a bar LOL) and i don’t think i’m as crass or no-filter as ihm reader for example, but i definitely relate to certain aspects like the tunnel vision, anxious avoidance, and stuff like that!! but i still try to make them their own characters i suppose, but it really depends on how i want their personalities to mesh w the love interest as well

Lmao I went back to the part where he talks about Azzi, just in comparison to a lot of players he was I don’t want to say happy but idk? I sensed a diff vibe there. More praising? Idk how to explain it. He seems confident in her and excited to have her back!

He definitely had a different vibe and that’s why I think that she’s either already cleared or she’s very close to being cleared. He’s definitely excited to have her back though.

My thoughts on the pjo show (now that the season is over) (this is going to run long) Overall Rating: 8/10 :

Ok first of all, I actually LOVED the show and the cast is literally awesome; I do have some thoughts and feelings tho.

The GOOD :D

The visuals were eating ngl

THE CAST!!!! they literally were amazing cannot stress this enough

I think a lot of the changes were handled super well, especially Medusa (although I don't love all of the changes...see below in the next section lol)

I LOVED the set design for pretty much all of the scenes!!! Like the set & costuming was literally so good; sometimes it looked a little Volume-y but I think it's ok since they also clearly did a bunch of on-location stuff

Driving scene was literally so funny like no notes on that + the acting was On Point pretty much All of the Time.

I actually think they slayed with the special effects

Pretty accurate! (overall a waaaaaay better adaptation than the movies)

BLUE FOOD!!!!

More Sally content was awesome!! And I cannot stress this enough the ACTORS WERE SO GOOD in their roles!! Like I think they were the perfect choices ngl and I hope to see more of them in season 2 (if we get one, idk if its greenlit yet)

I also liked how they focused on Grover's character more (lowkey my fav now)

Genuinely had a great time watching the scenes from the books I've loved since Forever come to life onscreen!

The character dynamics were GIVING

Loved getting more info about Percy's backstory

The way they showed the Mist was honestly so cool!! This might be filed under Visuals but still...it was so cool

Fight choreo fluctuated, but I liked the Percy vs Luke fight (altho the scorpion erasure ;-;)

Again the chemistry with the actors like adkjhfdkjdfkjhdfjkhk I think the acting may have been my fav part honestly lol

All of the easter eggs for the fans!!

Rick's subtle rewriting of the story was sometimes very cool! (Like with the water grabbing Percy etc) --- you can definitely tell that he's thinking about how he'd change the story if he were to write it today

...HOWEVER i have gripes :(

THE LIGHTING WAS TOO DARK IN NIGHT SCENES!!!! HATE THAT TROPE WHY CANT I SEEEEEEEE (looking at u medusa scene)

I feel like they should've fallen into like…at least one trap without Knowing Everything about it. Like, I get the Medusa change and am pretty on board with it, but I feel like a few of the other changes weren't really necessary & messed with the stakes. A lot of the time it felt like I was watching them explain "Oh you're THIS person so you will do THIS so I will do THIS" instead of like...showing me.

Not enough blood (this is prob a Disney problem, not the show creators fault but like...cmon Disney...they have swords, let the children get More Injured...they are Fighting for their Lives)

Felt kinda...dryer than the books? idk how to explain it...like it felt like there wasn't the same Vibes in some parts if that makes sense, like they switched out a lot of funny moments (esp with how they changed Charon and the Crusty scenes lowkey im bitter)

the tone was definitely sometimes waaay different from the books (like it was way more serious I think, which is good sometimes and less good other times)

Idk if this is 100% true bc my last reread was a few months ago, but I think they separated the main trio more than in the book (?), it felt like they were duo-ed with diff members for a lot rather than building off of their main dynamic -- they had some trio moments but ig i just wanted more (again, I could be wrong on this one tho)

Lotus Casino not really being as Fun (the pumping lotus flowers in the air was a cool detail tho!)

It generally felt like they took a lot of the funny parts in favor of talking more about how messed up the gods are (which I liked sometimes!! but the kids are 12 let them have more funny moments too yaknow) (Rip the Died in the Bathtub line...gone but not forgotten)

I really didn't love the changes that made the story feel more Cliche and Basic (the ones that annoyed me were changing the entire DOA to just Some Standard Death Eater Looking Fellow & Annabeth's interactions with Cerebus being completely changed)

Mixed feelings on Gabe...I wanted him to be more evil at the beginning but I get why they changed it ig. Plus he was literally so funny when he (spoilers?) got murdered by opening someone else's mail. That's what happens when you commit a federal crime ig.

General Character Thoughts:

PERCY: Walker Scobell was such a good casting call... like you can tell he really cares about the books & getting the character right. Acting was on point, sass was on point (but I do wish he got to be sassy a bit More); Really gives off the energy of Percy Jackson and definitely was AMAZING in this role!

ANNABETH: She was spectacular in this role!! Leah got literally all of Annabeth down to a T --- her kindness, her pride, her wisdom, etc etc without resorting to any kind of "stock smart girl" vibe. She was literally SO GOOD! I loved seeing her talk about her dad, and the detail about her not having seen a movie is such a mood and so in-character lowkey. Leah really nailed Annabeth's dry humor and general vibe like dfajkhfdjhkfdhjk

GROVER: He was my favorite! Like, his acting was AMAZING fr!!! They brought a lot of newer things into his character that I think worked really well & it definitely strengthened his characterization --- he was also really funny & so sincere I just loved his portrayal of Grover!

HOWEVER I think some of the arcs are shakier since the characters didn't struggle as much, since they were figuring out a Lot of things

Overall, I took 2 points from the rating because the Spirit and Humor weren't fully there and I felt some of the changes made it feel less like the OG and more cliche (looking at u Charon). However, the great acting, pretty slay writing (except for the tone stuff), Vibes, and all the other stuff I think they did right pulled through to get it ranked a little higher lol. Plus, I liked it, even if I didn't like all of it.

No hate if u loved the show adaptation tho!! Feel free to disagree, these are just my thoughts lol. I really genuinely hope there's going to be a season 2, although I would like if they fix a few of these problems in that potential season (please...let me see what's happening in the dark scenes...please...)
