FINALLY POSTING THIS!!1! This was a huge project for me (literally, it is 3 feet tall!) based on Will Wood's 'The Normal Album' and my personal relationship with it. I threw a ton of references and symbolism in here, it was a ton of fun to create :)
Rambling about details under the cut.
Also: If you enjoy this, I have prints (and other things?) available here!
ALRIGHT BUCKLE UP BECAUSE I HAVE LOTS TO SAY
This painting is acrylic on a 24"x36" canvas, created as part of my portfolio focusing on human experiences and mental health. I wanted to make a painting about music because it's a very important thing to me, and was ultimately inspired by the song Memento Mori, The Most Important Thing. In the end I decided to base it off The Normal Album in its entirety.
The most obvious reference is the outfit, of course. I took all my own reference photos so it isn't an exact match, but is of course in spirit Will's outfit from the album cover. The only symbolism in this is the expression of masculinity in the suit, and a slight bit of femininity in the painted nails. Nothing too deep about it, I just wanted to throw in some gender fuckery because of my trans-ness.
The keyboard itself isn't a reference (I mean it's just my keyboard) nor are the books behind it (Just there for composition) but I put some stickers on the keyboard to throw in some extra references and symbolism. First, the "Give Me That Old Time Religion," both a Self-Ish reference and inspired by the sticker on Will's keyboard. Second, the pride flag being covered by an upside down American flag. This was something more personal I threw in for fun, about my distaste for the US and the oppression of queer people here. Also, I threw in the window from the album cover (but empty)
In the background, there are silly references to specific songs, (white picket fences, barbed wire and trenches, and the 222 for 2econd 2ight 2eer) and some more personal references as well (pill bottle ties into themes of the album as well as my own mental heath issues.) The potted plant has a bunch of symbolism thrown at it, and was inspired by lines in well better the alternative and Outliars and Hyppocrates, kinda a bit about feeling restricted by pressures from yourself or others causing you to uhhh. not be okay. and the pot design is based on the keys of Will Wood's keyboard as well as kinda an Everything Is a Lot reference.
Hand stuff: Bracelets are bracelets I made, mostly just for fun to provide more visual interest. Both kandi bracelets are inspired by Will Wood of course, the visible letters reading 'Memento Mori'. The grey bracelet doesn't have the letters visible, but it reads 'not afraid to die' The rings I wore were also personal fun. The white ring on the middle finger is a bit of queer code representing Aromanticism, and an engagement ring on my ring finger. Just representing the struggles I've had with sexuality and relationships and such.
Finally the chains, wallet chain was thrown in to represent financial pressure, and the one over the piano is the actually important one, representing how shitty it feels to turn creativity into a career, and feeling forced to create. There's more thrown in here probably but I'm tired and basically wrote an essay already so UH. GOODNIGHT IF YOU READ THIS FAR I LOVE YOU WAAAAA!!!! PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS I LOVE TALKING TO PEOPLE

what’s your fav bloom and rage outfit/style choice for the girls? Also is any of the specific characters look your fav?
I can't choose just one! Now that DN is uploading their Artstation portfolios, these are really easy to share as well.
For Kat, I love her second casual outfit. I love the cutoff overall shorts with the oil stain, which implies she repurposed old overalls into shorts. I love the bandana to get her hair out of her face but also adds a cute girlish touch. I love her purple t-shirt with star motifs. It's just an overall fun outfit for a kid who wants to have a good time outside.
Tumblr media
I love all the concert outfits and how very over-the-top, 90's riot grrrl they are. Swann's glam makeup look is my fave though for how the colors complement the others' while still feeling distinctly Swann with the moth shape. Also, purple lipstick! And GLITTER!
Tumblr media
Adult Nora as a whole both intrigues and saddens me, because compared to how enthusiastic and excitable she was as a teen, it's so much more difficult to get on her good side as an adult. Her avoidant tendencies are much more pronounced and her overall monochromatic look is so much more conformist and generic than her wild teen self. She's literally wearing business casual when reuniting with her friends. Girl, you're at a bar!! Still, I love her overcoat. I love a good winter peacoat, it's so timeless and looks great on all genders.
Tumblr media
I also like Autumn's second casual look as a teen. It's so funny how 90s and Y2K fashion is making a comeback with today's teens, because Autumn's outfit wouldn't look out of place in 2025. She really nailed the fashion rule "baggy top and tiny pants OR tiny top and baggy pants" to a tee! Her crop top contrasting with sweatpants conveys "I'm a confident, sporty, skater gal who also is down to laze on the couch with video games." The skeleton design adds a cool, slightly edgy touch to her normally very cautious and serious personality.
Tumblr media
The "riot" masks that the girls wear during their raid on the ranch goes SO hard, but I love how it still has that slight amateur, teen crafter look to it. I love the thought of Nora staying up all night to design the perfect themed mask for each of them and how all the protagonists have an artsy, nerdy side to them. They're definitely well-made masks, but they have visible uneven stitches, streaks of paint, and the textures suggest cheap materials. But it amazes me how DN went the extra mile to enhance the visual language of the game with this rougher, DIY look.
All the girls have their own handwriting, and it's consistent. Swann leaves doodles and old homework assignments all over her room, and they were clearly hand drawn by an artist at DN and have realistic imperfections like stains and scribbles. Kat's journal is a generic composition notebook that she covered in personalized stickers and slogans. When Kat mentioned the Bloom & Rage stickers I thought, "That's weird, when did she have time to design and print her own?" But then you see them, and of course they're not custom designed stickers, but just dollar store stickers that she wrote "BLOOM & RAGE" on with marker. The girls make do with what they have, and it just adds this really nice cohesive, charming look to the whole thing. Especially compared to (again, sorry) Max's journal in Double Exposure with these cartoony, borderline stock image drawings and such boring, corporate UI all over the game.
But perhaps my favorite outfit is adult Swann's. It just looks SO cozy and SO comfy and SO her, exactly what a girl like her would wear by middle age. I bet the artists at DN pulled up Goblincore moodboards and said "That's it! That's our main girl!" She wears those earth tones beautifully. When Double Exposure was revealed, I was disappointed that (AGAIN, I AM SORRY!) Max seemed to be generically prettied up with feminine adult clothes of all random colors that didn't distinguish her from any other young working professionals her age. But what I love about Swann's adult look is that coupled with the fact that she learned to love herself as she aged, her 2022 outfit so clearly conveys that confidence and self-love. The overall silhouette hasn't changed (I bet Swann cried with joy when the low-rise jeans trend of the 2000s finally died off 😂), she still has her high-waisted clothes and backpack. But her visual evolution communicates way more narratively than Max's look in DE; Swann's outfit actually says something. At one point, adult Swann reveals, "I didn't feel like I was the type of girl who was 'allowed' to be into sexy, girly stuff." Aka, fashion choices that society said she wouldn't look "conventionally attractive" in due to her weight. So when we finally see her at the end of the game, it's extra rewarding to notice the longer hair, makeup, nail polish, jewelry, and skirt, which all wonderfully communicate that Swann has embraced her queerness, femininity, and inner and outer beauty as a plus-sized woman. I love Swann's character arc so much. Also, her tattoo is fucking sick.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you for asking!! Dontnod (Juliette, Ricardo, Sam Bradley, and the rest of the art team) seriously knocked it out of the park with these character designs and the overall look of the game.

Hey, I'm sure you get asked this all the time, but I've been writing my entire life, and while I've self-published some novels with moderate success, the content is not something I'm interested in sharing with future employers (unless it's Heart's Choice). I have a very stable day job in a different industry, but *really* want to break into professional writing, specifically interactive fiction, visual novels and TTRPGs. Could you recommend some good ways to start building pro experience?
Hello, thank you so much for your ask!
Sadly the field is in a very bad place at the moment, thanks to tech companies jumping on LLM trains, investor monopolies, and focusing on Number Go Up Forever rather than sustainability. There are very few junior roles around especially if writers don't already have professional experience in games, each one gets huge numbers of applications, and I constantly hear from friends who have applied to a position only for, partway through the process, it to be made redundant, the project to be cancelled, or even the studio to be closed. Things have changed a lot for the worse since I was first applying for things years years ago, and it's hard to see when and how it'll improve.
That said!
As you've self-published books before, you'll likely be at an advantage for writing interactive fiction has a lot of crossover with skills, especially with prose-type games like the ones published by Choice of Games/Hosted Games/Heart's Choice. If you're interested in getting into selling your interactive fiction, I'd recommend trying out tools like ChoiceScript and Twine and making some smaller pieces to get to grips with branching and variables.
Publishing with Choice of Games/Hosted Games/Heart's Choice is the most reliable way of making money from interactive fiction that I've seen; you can also self-publish entirely (using Twine, ink, or whatever other coding language) on itchio or Steam. Some people self-publish interactive fiction on Patreon which, for a small number of writers, can be very lucrative but you'd want to make sure to share some of your work publicly as well so that people can get excited about it. For better or worse, Patreon monetisation often focuses on things other than completing a project, such as short stories about characters or alternative versions of scenes; this might or might not be your thing. (The ChoiceScript licence also requires you to make ChoiceScript material after a month at most so do be aware of that.)
Every so often (less often these days due to aforementioned industry crisis) mobile companies are founded, offering platforms for monetisable IF/visual novel-ish mobile games; unfortunately they don't often stay around for long, and/or they often get bought out by LLM companies. One that's lasted longer than others is Dorian, but I've not worked with them so can't speak to how good they are to make games with; I've heard a few things both positive and negative so it's worth doing your homework and contacting people who've worked with them if you're interested.
For ChoiceScript, CoG and Heart's Choice offer an advance and editing, plus royalties, with a house style and (very flexible) deadlines; Hosted Games allows fuller freedom but there's no editing or advance. Lots of people get a lot out of both. As you've published your writing before, it's worth applying to CoG or HC if that's the direction you'd like to go in.
In general, joining game jams or comps is a good way of honing your skills. You could do this solo or join a group. Either way, it will develop your skills and give you something to put into a portfolio. There are various themed interactive fiction game jams on itch.io - I'd recommend following @/neointeractives and @/interact-if as they often share information when they come up.
I'm sorry that I can't give more concrete advice - at the moment it boils down to "make some interactive work that you're proud of", I think, and certainly keep the stable job going while you do it. It's a tough time all round, unfortunately.
If you or anyone reading is interested in applying to write for Choice of Games or Heart's Choice, is working on an outline for them, or is contracted with them, and has any questions or would like any info or advice about the process- feel free to drop me an ask, email, or message. I've been doing this for a long time and have gone through the pitch/outline process seven times now, so I know my way around it pretty well!
Best of luck with your interactive writing!

The sword of destiny has two edges. One of them is you. The other is death?...
I spent a long time gathering my thoughts to show this sketch, and I kept forgetting :) Have you all seen the trailers for the 4th part of The Witcher? Just wow. The hype for this topic has already passed, but the anticipation for the game will not be any less. There are about 2-3 years left before the release, so that I can have time to improve my computer so that the game looks great... although knowing the company CD Projekt Red and the experience with Cyberpunk 2077, I am inclined to think that the wait for the game will be at least 3 years or more. For two years, since I have been drawing on a graphic tablet, I thought that I would actively draw on the Witcher, but this never happened, so this fandom will remain in my heart forever, but now I will refuse to visualize it in my drawings, maybe someday I will still start again (no time and other priorities in terms of topics; for example, the theme of the circus, genshin, attack on titans) a little later I will show a couple of my drawings on the Witcher fandom that still exist, but I planned to make it one of the main ones. In general, why did I decide to show this particular sketch, without even publishing older works? (and some works are full-fledged) so it's because I have a bad habit of saving up all sorts of sketches, on which I spend a lot of time (on some more than 10 hours) and then I'm surprised that my portfolio is slowly filling up... (◕‿◕) so to sum it up, I will publish my unfinished works little by little, starting with the sketch of Ciri, to get rid of the illusory feeling of "I'll do it later". we all know that most likely, if something has accumulated in excess - it will remain covered in dust, and new ideas in most cases will be much better and faster to implement. thank you for your attention! ♡

Thought I'd post some portfolio work because why not
This was for a specific assignment, of illustrating the same poem five different ways. I chose East Europe Triptych by Tóth Krisztina. You can read the full poem and the english translation here.
The first piece was inspired by old 70s hungarian cartoons and 50s posters. I focused on the general vibe of traveling through Hungary by train, which I find myself doing more and more nowadays.
Tumblr media
2. My second piece was a digitally drawn zine. This time, instead of heavily interpreting a twisting the text, I took direct images from the second part of the poem and drew them, and then put them together in an accordion zine, with traditionally collaged covers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. For the third one I wanted to focus on the poem's theme of belonging and connection, but using the simplest visuals to convey them. I decided to make 5 posters all illustrating different aspects of connecting with another person, place or feeling, using the idea of overlapping shapes and colors, as well as some text.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. I knew I wanted to make a collage, and I wanted to use some religious imagery in one of the pieces. I know it's not a very prominent theme in the text, but my entire life I've lived in a country where christianity and catholicism dictate many facets of life. I can't imagine a hungary or eastern europe without it. I treated this piece sort of like an altar, and the character as the virgin mary. The trash around her is sort of a messed up mandorla.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. I wanted to do something completely outside my comfort zone, and since jewelry is a big symbol in the poem I chose to make some earrings. They were modeled after car parts, since in the last stanza it was used alongside the jewelry as a metaphor.

thinking more abt the art student AU. I like to imagine Zuko is a bit of an anonymous artist within the printmaking world, he doesnt ACTIVELY try to hide himself, but he has a website + portfolio account on most social medias which all mass post whenever he creates a new set. Theres no selfies or anything and he goes by his mothers maiden name with the first name being his middle name, the one his mother had wanted to be his first name. He's already partaken in A LOT of print exchanges, from an exclusive 15 members to major 50 members, (a print exchange/set is when an amount of printmakers get given a theme, or sometimes no theme, and then they make as many prints as there are joining members + an extra two to exhibit, sell or be taken by the collector who initiates it and then for partaking you pay a certain sum (sometimes there isnt one but this is rare) and then everyone gets one print from each of the artists in return!) and a few of these have included Sokka! Sokka isnt even AWARE that its Zuko, he's been in three exchanges including him, one with a lot of other printmakers and then another that was super exclusive and had each printmaker doing a set of three prints for it. Sokka is IN LOVE with these prints, he has them framed in his bedroom! He even owns one of Zuko's very rare lino blocks, filled w black resin so you can see the details of it. He isnt aware its the same Zuko for ages into their "rivalry" up until he's int he studio when Zuko is doing a proof, and lets just say he LOSES HIS MIND. Sokka's frustration goes RIGHT out the window because holy shit this dude is incredible and he just bombards Zuko with questions, taking out all the articles he's read about him, all the visual and critical analysis he's done, and this is when he realises oh hey he hasnt been fightng me this whole time he just. Talks like that. This is also when he realises ZUKO is a HUGE fan of Sokka's work too. he also has all of Sokka's prints he owns up in his house, he has even bought some of them!! Even bought some of the experimental works Sokka has done!! Sokka is rlly shocked, he says like hey i thought u were like. Super to the books. Zukos like. I am! And Sokka is just like ok cool we're. Leaving it at that then? Ok. LOOK I JUST LOVE. ART STUDENT NERDS OKAUY. I LOVE THE WORLD OF ART AND I LOVE THINKING ABT THIS. This is so indulgent ok and i dont even CARE that its indulgent I love the world of printmaking and i WILL MAKE THE ZUKKA NATION CARE TOO!! I will ABSOLUTELY be using this as an excuse to talk about printmakers i dont CARE!!! YOU WILL CARE ABOUT PRINTMAKING!!!

Hail, friend! Come in and make yourself comfortable!
My name is Thor Dagdason and you are currently reading my intro post! This blog is dedicated to all sorts of things but there is a focus on art in its various forms, from visual art to music. For the sake of convenience, I have implemented a proper tagging system as of July 22nd, 2025.
Fandom
While I may not be super active in all of them, I do consider myself to be a part of a handful of fandoms.
The most important one is The Elder Scrolls, which I have been properly active in since the summer of 2023. My passion for this series is so vast, in fact, that I have made an entirely separate blog for it titled @acolyte-of-jhunal.
My passion for The Elder Scrolls flows forth from a general interest in Western RPGs. I greatly enjoy the Fallout franchise, Cyberpunk 2077 and some of the Assassin's Creed games that have some RPG-isms to them. These games have their flaws but they give the player enough creative freedom to simply re-write stuff to their liking when it comes to fanfics and whatnot.
Speaking of fanfiction, I write Skyrim fanfics in my spare time! All my writings can be found on my AO3 page.
Other media I enjoy include: God of War, DOOM, Mad Max, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Terraria, Minecraft, Subnautica and Pokémon.
Music
Though I enjoy a good variety of music, my heart ultimately lies with the genre of metal, especially subgenres such as symphonic power metal, folk metal, old school death metal and blackened death metal. I don't make music myself so my music-related activities are limited to listening to and discussing music.
My favourite bands and artists, as of writing this post, are: Rhapsody (of Fire), Elvenking, Ye Banished Privateers, Miracle of Sound, 1914, Ghost, System of a Down and Iron Maiden.
Original Works
Next to all the fandom stuff, I have a little project that is completely my own. It's an original setting called Duality, at the core of which lies the dance of creation and destruction. I am working on a story in this setting titled The Ouroboros, where the main theme is perseverance in the midst of a cycle of violence. This story is also available to read on my AO3.
I also make visual art! The bulk of my work is drawings of my original characters but sometimes I'll draw other people's OC's too. My Toyhouse profile serves as a sort of "portfolio" for my art.
If you're on Art Fight and want to send an attack my way whenever the game is on, here's my profile on that website too.
General / Umbrella Tags
To cap off this into post, this is an overview of tags will appear on almost every post and reblog I make. They form the core of my tagging system.
#ponderings - like every other person who is alive at this very moment, I think about things and sometimes I like expressing my thoughts.
#hell yeah - I am a simple man, and so there sometimes are just things that make me go "hell yeah" because I think they're cool.
#art, #music and #writing - as previously stated, I like art in all its forms. To keep things organised, I'm splitting this broad topic up into visual art (images and videos), auditory art and textual art.
#mine and #not mine - a simple way to distinguish my own creative works from the works of others.
#acolyte reblog - this tag will be used for when I reblog stuff from @acolyte-of-jhunal.
