some answers to some commonly asked questions, and a little more :)

general fic info:

the norm: - I tend to write in 2nd person or 3rd person POV, usually focusing on the relationship between an OC/reader (with which I avoid using Y/N) and a fictional character. I'm open to doing ships on occasion, but as an aspiring author, I enjoy the creativity of OCs more, so I lean that way. my boundaries: - I won't write for real people- only fictional characters. I also only write for characters I feel I know well; I like to try to keep characters consistent with canon. - I'm asexual, and feel uncomfortable with writing smut, so sexual intimacy will only ever be implied. however, I don't shy away from mature/heavy topics, so be sure to pay attention to warnings. - I don't endorse censorship or policing of any kind. this is fiction! remember: don't like, don't read.

schedule:

- I'm currently working on my doctorate in counseling psychology, and as with many fanfic writers, life happens sometimes. because of that, I don't have the capacity to commit to a writing schedule. however, I love what I do, so I write as often as I can!

asks & dms

- my asks are always open- I enjoy feedback, am happy to answer questions, and will always appreciate requests, along with just about anything else. I may not get to writing your requests (I can only follow inspiration when it strikes), but I appreciate it all nonetheless. obviously, harassment and spam are not tolerated. - DMs are always open for chats- so don't be a stranger!

fandoms:

- I tend to write for Marvel, Star Wars, and Baldur's Gate 3. I'm also a huge fan of The Witcher, D&D, DC, Critical Role, Attack on Titan, Invincible, and Lord of the Rings, amongst a variety of other things. I may post about my other interests intermittently, and will always reblog a good fic or fanart for my top fandoms when I come across them.

Ao3:

- I don't maintain tag lists; subscribing to my profile or my works on Ao3 is the best way to keep track of when I update works or post something new.

- I bookmark fic recommendations to my Ao3 profile if you ever want to know what I'm reading & what I recommend!

- my fics on Ao3 are locked (only visible to registered users) due to repeated issues with bots scraping & stealing fics. it's a means to do what little I can to protect my work. please be encouraged to take this opportunity to make an account! it only requires an email (even a burner) and grants you plenty of perks- like subscribing & bookmarks :)

etc.:

- this isn't my main blog, so I use reblogs, chats, and comments as often as I can. this doesn't mean I keep my main a secret; I just like to keep things organized by blog :)

- I try to tag things pretty consistently and thoroughly:

references for reading and studying the hebrew bible (named the old testament for some, the tanakh for others)—

biblegateway makes available most translations. ethical, responsible versions used in academia include the nrsvue (here with commentary) and the jps (here, on sefaria, with hebrew notations). software like accordance is helpful for those familiar with languages.

on languages—here is more on learning biblical hebrew. here are my recs on hittite, sumerian, akkadian (huehnergard, caplice), ugaritic, and aramaic.

holding the narrative alongside introductory material is meaningful—here is a list of many, and here is the book assigned in most syllabi.

finally, oxford offers entries on heuristics and methods that might help move religious study further in meaning. here are recs for my method

biggest disconnect in pathologic's reception has kind of always been a divide between "patho is driven by mechanics" and "patho is driven by story" camps where opinions only ever come from one of these extremes... around p1's development and release the developers considered it exclusively a survival challenge sim, not a game marketed for its story (despite story representing a huge fraction of the time and thought put into it). In The Society Of Dead Poets goes into so much detail about this. and it WAS a stunning technical work under the circumstances, but the complex story was what gave the franchise cult appeal, or at least enough so for it to get a sequel... reviews from the period tend to go along the lines of "this game looks and plays like shit but it's extremely thought-provoking". there's a little to be said about the mainstream view of a "Gamer" in 2005 and what they would be interested in marketing-wise not tracking with story games yet; anyway, the one-dimensionality here was consistent with the studio's approach to games as a whole (cf BoneHouse.ppt).

so IPL's perception of their work was what informed p2's priorities, which turned out to be A Way Better Survival Challenge at the expense of things like characters having complex motivations (expansion on this has been omitted; iykyk), and they did an incredible job with that & basically perfected what they had been going for mechanically. which created this weird divide where p2 fans think 1 isn't worth playing because it's less engaging as a gaming experience, and p1 fans (me included, to be clear) see 2's story changes as a spit in the face of everything that made the series work. like, neither of these are fundamentally incorrect, but they refer to completely non-overlapping paradigms of engaging with the material. when hopefully it can be agreed that a Video Game is comprised of Both a narrative aspect and an interactive aspect, and that they need to work together to create the player's transformative experience (again, premise of BoneHouse.ppt).

Anyway. that helps explain a lot of hbomb's stance on the franchise, particularly that he can endorse patho2 without comment as an ostensibly leftist youtuber when even the most cursory playthrough is enough to let players in on its gleeful centering of ecofascism... that game's representation of colonial relations as an unfixable divide employing the racist trope of reciprocal violence, its obsession with maintaining status quo, and its completely tasteless approach to MMIW are all elements of Story and thus all secondary to p2's huge improvements on the survival system. in the same vein, his discussion of p1's changeling's route is limited to the constant reputation decrease and the repeated quests because those are the only mechanical features introduced over the previous routes, even while clararoute text is fundamental to understanding most characters... his video isn't like Bad for getting the interactive experience p1 would present to you, but it sucks for engaging with the story because it's not about the story. and unfortunately, on discussion posting websites, we do usually post about story

I was scrolling back to see if anyone asked, but with the WOT movie on the horizon and the CW show kinda far in the rear view, I was wondering what your thoughts on Melissa’s characterization of Kara was? I know that it’s kinda hard to separate the characterization from how shitty the CW writing was (the first season being on CBS was far better) but I’d still love to know? I’ve seen a wide range of opinions from the more comic book loyal fans vs more film/TV media faithful (and I’ve been creeping through your tags and I love your thoughts on Kara!)

first of all thank you :) I don't think super highly of her version of kara, but my opinion of her has definitely mellowed out over time. i've actually answered this twice now, but i'll go ahead and reiterate what my main issue with her personality is—which is that she just doesn't have enough of an edge to her. and I don't mean that she should be constantly mean or angry or grumpy all the time—or that she shouldn't be kind or compassionate—I just think she should've been more combative/argumentative/stubborn both as kara danvers and as supergirl. she was just, like, kind of meek and overly sweet/bubbly in a way that I didn't enjoy. as the series progressed (and especially after it moved from cbs—where her "adorkable" personality was kind of unbearable) she got to be more headstrong and confident, which was a welcome change from her earlier characterization.

honestly if cwsg removed the DEO and let kara be more of a dick at work and in her personal life, that'd solve, like, most of the problems that I have with the show.

Not sure if this has been asked yet, but is it possible to prioritize both the public and the elite? I had an option closed off to me saying I didn't prioritize the elites enough. Not surprising tbh because I did pick options favoring the public at like...every opportunity, but is it possible through some combination of choices that both groups would feel favored?

Nope, you will never be able to prioritize both, and that's a very purposeful choice. They're completely diametrically opposed to each other in pretty much every way.

Keep in mind the elite couldn't exist if they did not exploit the public. The entire basis of their existence has been built by oppressing the lower classes. Prioritizing the elite means enabling their exploitation of the public (and maximizing your own power through those means), and prioritizing the public means curbing the power of the elite so that they can't take advantage of the public.

So, yeah, it wouldn't make sense to be able to prioritize both.

i think we briefly referenced in ch5 and we’ve answered a few times on here, but he was just frustrated with himself and upset because max and hopper and justin were mad at him! not the biggest deal ever — was just included to show that A) will is a frustrated crier and B) mike cared about the fact that he was crying despite everything!
