fifty creative writing warmups
1. search for lists of writing prompts, select one at random, and write from it for 15 minutes. the goal should be to write as much as possible, rather than trying to write something âgood.â
2. read or watch a scene from a book/film/show/etc. and then rewrite it from memory.
3. choose one of the five senses (sight, smell, touch, taste, sound) and write a brief scene focusing primarily on that sense.
4. write an interview as if it were occurring between yourself and a character youâre writing about.
5. rewrite something you wrote a long time ago.
6. shuffle your favorite music and write something based on the first song that plays.Â
7. choose a scene from your least favorite book and try to rewrite it in a way that you like. pay attention to the changes you make and why, in your opinion, they improve the scene.
8. choose an object in the same room as you and write as much as possible about that object: descriptions, history, personification, etc.
9. choose an author whose style you like and read one of their works for about twenty minutes before sitting down to write.
10. write a short scene with no adverbs (words ending in -ly such as quickly, hastily, quietly, dimly, etc.)
11. reread a scene from a book you like and write down what you think the author did well: characterization, use of literary devices, foreshadowing, dialogue, etc. then write down the characters, goals/motives, and conflicts of the scene.
12. go outside or look out a window and simply write what you see.
13. write a scene with no dialogue.
14. write a scene with only dialogue.
15. choose a scene from your current work in progress and rewrite it from a different characterâs point of view.
16. without editing, reread the last couple of scenes you wrote.
17. describe a room where you live.
18. learn a new word and try writing a few different sentences that each use that word.
19. reread something youâve written out loud. pay attention to things like sentence flow.
20. write an alternate ending for a piece of media youâve enjoyed recently.
21. write a short story based on a side character in a piece of media youâve enjoyed recently.
22. rewrite a classic fairytale, but find a way to turn it on its head.
23. go to a random word generator and write a quick scene based on the first word that comes up.
24. describe your day as if it were the first chapter of a book.
25. choose a book from your shelf. find the fifth word on the fifth page and write something based on that.
26. go for a walk. or, if you canât do that, try to find a way to move your body around.
27. choose an emotion and write a scene where that emotion is the central focus.
28. rewrite a scene youâve already written, but switch the perspectiveâso, if your story uses first person present tense (I, me, my, mine), try third person past tense (they, them, their, theirs), or second person present tense (you, your, yours).
29. rewrite an important scene in your work in progress from the point of view of a complete outsider with no stake in the plot.
30. read three pages of a random book, making note of the authorâs style, and then try to write a page in that authorâs writing style.
31. write a news article about one of your characters. what is the headline? what is the article about?
32. in public, transcribe a conversation happening near you.
33. write a short dialogue exchange, then choose an emotion to highlight and rewrite the dialogue with that emotion in mind.
34. choose an object near you and describe it three times. each time, try to capture a different emotion or vibe.
35. if youâre within earshot of a conversation, write down 2-4 lines of that conversation and then continue it by making up your own dialogue.
36. write brief, 1-2 sentence descriptions of people you see in passing.
37. pick something you love and write about it as if you hate it.
38. pick something you hate and write about it as if you love it.
39. read something you wouldnât normally read: an author, genre, style, medium, or subject matter youâd usually avoid.
40. write a goodbye scene between two people three times to capture different emotions: somber, cheerful, angry.
41. find a random photograph online of a person or place and write a story about it. what is the history behind the image? how did the picture wind up being takenâwhy?
42. find a random image online and write 1,000 words describing it.
43. watch a scene in a tv show or movie and try to adapt it into a written format.
44. read a few pages of a book about writing.
45. describe your main characterâs home.
46. describe a day in your main characterâs life.
47. set a timer for five minutes and list as many words as you can think of.
48. write a page of pure stream of consciousness. put down anything that comes to mind.
49. write a page describing the appearance of a side character.
50. choose one of your characters and create a new character based on them. for every trait your character has, this new character will have its total oppositeâso, generous â selfish, cowardly â bold, short â tall, etc.

đ wilmon;
"I thought you were asleep."
you are keeping me sane by supplying so many good prompts so thank you. here have some fluff! (if you squint this is ftts wilmon) đЎđ˛
"I thought you were asleep," Wille says softly, brown eyes glowing in the dim lamplight.
âI thought you were asleep,â Simon repeats and crosses the living room to hover over his boyfriend, who really should be sleeping because itâs three in the morning, but is instead curled up on the couch, reading a book, pen smeared across his cheek.Â
He shrugs and gestures with the book as a way of explanation, and Simon takes the opportunity to climb into Willeâs lap, curling up in his warmth and nuzzling into his neck, wishing he could take away the anxiety he knows is the reason Wille is up right now.Â
Simon whispers, âYou couldâve woken me up,â and threads his fingers through the hair on the nape of Willeâs neck, placing the other on his chest and beginning to rub soothing circles; he canât do much, but he can do this.
Wille leans into the touch, and tilts his head against Simonâs, humming, âYouâve got that performance coming up, you need your beauty sleep,â fingers pressing random patterns into Simonâs skin where they grip his waist â all that pent up energy, the anxiety refusing to let Wille sit still.Â
âIâll sleep here, then,â Simon mumbles, eyes already drooping again because it doesnât really matter to him. As long as heâs doing anything at all to soften the edges for Wille, then this, in Willeâs arms, is where he is meant to be.
#i did not edit this one so dont look too close#also we're back to *almost* sticking to the five sentence thing#but like its been weeks#at this point who even remembers the original rules#these are just such great little writing warmup exercises#yr ficlet#wilmon

I vaguely remember this episode and I think I drew this because I wanted something a little more out of Marco's reaction (although I'm pretty sure a hug like this would have made things worse).

I went on a run and didn't hate myself afterwards!!!!!!! Endorphins and runner's high are real and not just made up by Big Exercise to get more signups to strava and nike running club
#ellis exercises#new tag just dropped lads - if you don't want to see this sort of thing from me then block that one <-#ârunâ in very generous terms - 5 mins walk warmup then (1min run + 1 min walk) x10 and 5 mins walk cooldown#but I still did it!!!!!#second part was only a slight joke cus i did sign up to nike run club for the stats and progress tracking#it's completely free as well and you don't have to own any nike products or a watch or anything you can just let it run in the background#it's kinda fun seeing time per km cus it sort of makes it a race against myself next time!!

Since I'm bedridden from the recent cosplay competition I've competed in, I drew this since I might as well and i might even make another version where he looks back at viewer with different emotions maybe fondness next, or maybe even sadness, guilt, shock.
idk this makes me wanna brand storm tho i think the only difference would be the 2nd and 3rd panel and the 1st one having only slight changes... Idk, my brain just works its magic when I'm alone and in bed and i love and hate it.

"I can't sleep." Obikin? (â ・â â˘Ěâ á´â -â )â â§
"I'm sorry, what?" Anakin echoes, blankly.
Obi-Wan's face twists in deep discomfort and he straightens his shoulders, the furrow of his brows is one he oftens has before an especially unpleasant battle. Anakin doesn't like it directed at himself but he truly needs to his Master to confirm that he did not start hallucinating due to his own lack of sleep. Surely, his stubborn Master did not just admit to such human weakness as inability to sleep. Surely, he meant to say there's much work to be done and no one but him to do it. Right?
"If your hearing had suffered during the last mission, you truly outh to report that to the medical bay, Ahnakin." Obi-Wan sounds snappy, cranky in a way he gets only when he is sleep deprived beyond what even a Jedi can withstand. He seems to realize that too, as his cheeks color with a touch of embarrassment and he makes to turn to the door, and leave.
"No" Anakin reaches and grabs at his sleeve, hand closing around his wrist. "Stay, Master, please." his own cheeks heat up. He is not sure what to do with this more honest Master of his, the one who actually speaks clearlyâ he is not sure what Obi-Wan wanted to achieve when he came here, in the middle of the night. He doesn't know and he doesn't care to ruin the moment by asking. It's enough that he is here, the rest he will figure out as things go.
"Iâ" Anakin runs a tongue across his lips, they're dry again. "I couldn't sleep either." his hair is sleep tousled and he has pink pillow lines across his face but Obi-Wan is gracious enough to not point it out. Anakin might have slept, just not well. "I could use the company, Master" he smiles tentatively and finally, finally Obi-Wan relaxes some.
"In that case" Obi-Wan lowers his gaze, expression both conflicted and softer. "You might wish to invite me in" he glances at him with those endlessly tired blue eyes, endlessly kind, playful even while so wearied. "I rather not have to explain to the clones why we share nightly visits, Padawan." there's a smirk there, Anakin is certain.
"Mahstar!" his cheeks burning, he pulls his Master into the room and locks it with a flick of his wrist and a nudge from the force.
His cheeks are hot and his chest is light. He wonders if they could share the bed, the way his Master allowed a precious few times when he was younger. Much younger. Probably not, but who knows. Right?
#msg#Anonymous#Oh my dear it was so in my ask box for.... three months....#I wanted to write something to match the art I am about to reblog but I got digressed as always#it's a just a little evening warmup so <3 nothing of substance here#thank you for sending the prompt#i like having those as exercise for actually starting and finishing things -laughs-#obikin#buns.w#buns.all
