(I do want to emphasize that when I say “the Ancient Greeks had no concept of romantic love” I’m making a point about the culturally constructed categories with which we shape our understandings and expectations of emotions, desires, and relationships, making the point that “romantic love” vs. “platonic love” are just as much cultural constructs today as “eros,” “philia,” “storge,” “agape,” etc. were two and a half thousand years ago; ways of naming and categorizing feelings, desires, relationships. Not claims about the actual range of feelings, desires, and relationships people had or were capable of having back then; but different ways of categorizing and conceptualizing and hierarchizing them.)
