So I'll answer them all together!

The process is different for the PCs vs NPCs, but all in all I work through coordinators and art directors. I rarely get the chance to 1 on 1 with talent. We work with a wonderful app called Airtable, which makes everything nice and organized and easy to deal with when you're drawing a bajillion characters. PCs I get mood boards and written descriptions, and we go through several rounds of ideation before landing on finals. They take the longest by far!

NPC-wise, I'm given a write up of the character and the timestamp for when they're introduced in the season. If they have a battle mini, I get reference pics of that, too. Yep, minis are made WAY before character art! I listen/watch the "stringouts" aka uncut/unedited footage of the sessions to get the vibe of the character, as well as any secret things that are important later i.e. someone in disguise, like The Skulker vs Johnny Manhattan in NSBU, or if there's some kind of historical importance to a character/secret hidden on their person that is important to visualize. These get done in batches :)

I wouldn't be able to get this done without the awesome dropout team - especially Eve, Skye Loremaster, and Alison ♥

As for Projection Illustrations - that's done before filming! We work closely with the battlemap team (love you Rick, Alison, and KC) and the projection engineers (GOATS Derek and Ruby) to make the beautiful sets the players and viewers get to enjoy. We actually work on the sets DURING film schedule - and CH has a LOT of art yall will get to see. There were times we finished the art the day before the episode was filmed!! But, the art has to be done before the cameras roll, as they're projected live behind the actors.

KC HAD A SOLID GAME!! Quiet 10 tbh I barely realized she'd gotten double digits but I did notice every basket and you could see her being aggressive about it and that's so important.

AUBREY BBG GOT SOME GOOD MINUTES TOO!!! Hard to say if she should've gotten more after such a dominant performance by but her presence is always great and I think really deflated SC, seeing her come off the bench in the 2nd half when we were already demolishing.

DogDay x Reader part 2

DogDay led me outside of the Playhouse and back outside into Playcare. A few feet in front of us was a chicken. A tall yellow chicken. Ah, that must have been KickinChicken. “Hiya KC!” DogDay was still holding my hand but with his other he waved extremely fast to KickinChicken. “Sup DD! Hey, finally got yourself a helper now huh? ‘Bout time dude.” KickinChicken then handed off the kids too, I’m assuming his helper. His helper also matched him as well. Guess that was the uniform for us working with these...tall animal mascots.  

Kickinchicken walked up to me and DogDay. “Names Kickinchicken, the cool member of the Smiling Critters.” DogDay laughed when he said that. “Go on Angel, introduce yourself.” I wasn’t used to seeing animals so tall, it scared me a little. I held out my free hand to KickenChicken and summoned some courage to talk.  

“Hello, I’m Y/N or Angel, doesn’t really matter what you call me. Nice to meet you.” KickenChicken then slapped my hand with his and started to make a handshake with me. I mirrored his movements to understand this new handshake I was given. “Haha, she’s pretty cool DD, you got yourself a rad helper.” He then looked at me up and down. “Not bad looking either.” KickenChicken smiled at me. I was going to comment on that, but DogDay beat me too it. “Look at the time! You better hurry along to your group now KC, don’t want our little friends upset now do we?” “Right, well nice meeting ya Y/N, we’ll chat later.” he spoke as he walked back to his group and helper. DogDay squeezed my hand a bit before leading us to the center of Playcare. “On with the tour!”

DogDay first showed me the statue in the center. It was all the Smiling Critters. There were eight of them in total: DogDay the leader, Bobby Bearhug the loving one, KickenChicken was the cool one, Hoppy Hopscotch the energetic one, CraftyCorn was the artist in the group, Bubba Bubbaphant the smart one, PickyPiggy the foodie, and lastly there was CatNap, DogDays bestest friend. He supposably makes sure that everyone else gets a good night's rest every day to ensure that they are ready for the next day.  

Next, we went into the Toy Store. DogDay was tall, so he had to walk on all fours. “This is where the children can come and buy some sweet toys of yours truly, and the others!” I smiled and looked around. Sure enough there were plushies of DogDay and the rest of the group. There were also some other toys like a blue limp doll, a dinosaur that matched the lamps outside, what looked like a cat and a bee mixed, and other toys. I picked up a smaller version of DogDay and looked at it. “You said the kids buy these?” “Uh-huh! We give them play money to use around here, that way when they get adopted, they’ll know about the real world and how to manage their expenses.” That was smart of them. I set the plushie back down and followed DogDay outside. 

We then looked at the consoler's office and school. DogDay told me that the consolers office was where the staff would put their belongings in and where parents would go to adopt a child. Only DogDay was allowed in the consoler's office, none of the other Smiling Critters could go in there. I’m not sure why but I didn’t question it. “The school is where the children spend most of their time. I’d take you inside so you could meet Miss Delight and her sisters, but I wouldn’t want to interrupt her teachings.” “That’s okay, I’m sure I’ll get to meet them one day.”

It was now naptime for the children which meant that the Smiling Critters could step away and hang out all together and just relax. I was in the consolers office to check out my assigned office. Each helper had their own office to get away to when needed. Outside my door was a card that had ‘Welcome’ on the front. I picked it up and walked into my new office. I took a look around, nice office, however what stuck out to me was the big dog bed in the corner.  

I was about to walk over to it until I heard a knock at the door. I set down the card and opened the door, but no one was there. Suddenly DogDays head popped out from the side. “Hiya Angel!” “Ah-” I fell back in shock. As I laid on the floor DogDay hovered over me with a worried expression, his sun pendant laid against my chest. “Angel?! Oh gosh I’m so sorry! Are you okay??!” I did a double-blink and then slowly sat up. “Yeah, I’m fine, I just wasn’t expecting that at all.” DogDay then held out a paw towards me to help me to my feet. I took his paw into my hand and once my hand met his paw his tail started to wag. He pulled me up to my feet and got close to me.   I wasn't used to being this close to anyone, let alone a giant dog so I started to blush. This caught DogDays attention. “Angel your face is really red, are you sick?” I was starting to feel bad, not physically but mentally. I didn’t want him to be worried about me. “I-I’m fine! Really DogDay. So, um what brings you by?” I wanted to change the subject as fast as possible. DogDay then smiled and leaned away from me. “I wanted to see if you liked the card we made!” I went to my desk, picked up the card and opened it. ‘Welcome newest helper, we hope that this job brings you happiness and joy as we do to our children here. We look forward to working with you, signed everyone.’ I did like the letter.

Me and DogDay started chatting for a while until out of nowhere, I yawned. “Oh my, sorry about that.” Guess I was starting to get a bit tired. “That’s okay Angel. There’s thirty minutes left of nap time; you should rest up!” A power nap did sound good. I nodded and told DogDay that he should go back to his friends, but he shook his head no and picked me up and walked over to the dog bed in the corner. Should’ve known it was his.  

“I’d rather spend my free time with you Angel, plus as your boss you have no say.” He stuck his tongue out and booped my nose with his paw. My face got warm again. He then laid down on his bed and laid me in between his front paws. “You can rest with me Angel; I’ve been told that I’m a very fluffy pillow.” He was very soft and the smell of vanilla on him was almost like a drug to put you to sleep, and it was working. I yawned once more and closed my eyes. DogDays head rested near me. “Rest well my Angel.” was the last thing I heard before drifting off to sleep.

- You bite him if you’re stressed, and he gives himself up.

- Used to find it annoying, but learned to know that you do only do it to people you love, which made it easier to accept.

- She also bites back (sometimes a little too hard #cannibal)

- Tries to avoid biting you in caution of her cannibalistic tendencies

- “Careful not to go too deep, my love.”

- She giggles at the feeling, unless you go hard, and then she might yelp or scream

- Will cover bites if possible, or ask you to not bite hard if she has shoots/work stuff next day

- Hates asking you not to bite, but hates answering questions about it.

- Calls you a “puppy” as a joke because of how much you bite

- Definitely yells dramatically, such as loud and dramatic “owwwww” or a loud yell.

- They def also bite their nails or something when they’re stressed, and learned biting their partner from you.

- Super used to it by now, but overdramatized it to mess with you

- Lovessss when you bite them, it makes them feel loved

- Either loves it or hates it, depends on when you do it.

- Doesn’t bite, he’s too sophisticated for that.

Stop flooding the main tags with archives and leaks during a time when victims are speaking out, crits are trying to raise awareness, and those who used to have connections/working relations with KC are giving their testimonies.

We are not within the first few days of everything happening anymore, we are now in THE SECOND WEEK.

You are actively making it harder for important information to circulate. Your actions inadvertently are in bad faith and ironically come across as giving Kittycorn's supporters ammo of doing things maliciously/breeching things that were private. You are giving KC's supporters things to feast their eyes on. No amount of 'I don't support Kittycorn </3' will change that fact.

The archival servers have got all this stuff covered extensively and at a later date will be made available. There are multiple archival servers all doing their own efforts. Right now things are purposefully NOT being posted to NOT get in the way of what is ACTUALLY important.

Nothing you are posting is new information and actively HURTS the archival effort as Kittycorn is more likely to take things down if she is aware they are in circulation. This happened when another person posted the unlisted youtube links in a public tumblr post - Kittycorn caught wind of this and REMOVED ALL OF THEM.

She is sunnydaisy on ao3, and has done a variety of aus, but check out wisteria and the edges of things first---they're my favourites. she's a rainbow and warm my bones and fill them with glass are also notable runners up.

@kirythestitchwitch or KiryTheStitchWitch on ao3 is also a great author to follow. There's a line in Til I Tasted You which will wreck your standards of men forever. I scream into the pillow every time. She's also great with aus, but has done a nice range of canon divergence fics too. Check the tags though, because she's done a few smuttier fics, so beware if that's not your thing.

@cupcakemolotov @lalainajanes and @lynyrdwrites are all writers who have written every au under the sun, possibly multiple times. You like 1 cake? BRILLIANT here's twenty more, gorge yourself my friend you will never go hungry when reading through these three's fic lists on ao3.

@bellemorte180 or BelleMorte180 has written some banging multichap aus like Demonolgy and Wanderlust, with plenty more WIPs you can follow. She's got so much range though, and has done great one-shots like The Howling and O'Holy Night. She was one of the first writers I discovered when I entered the fandom and her fics mean a lot to me even now.

@perfectpro / perfectpro has written in my eyes the OG fic that deals with what Damon did to Caroline. It's beautiful. It's perfect. I cry every time I re-read it. Her style is similar to @little-miss-sunny-daisy so she's done a mixture of aus, each as heartfelt and poignant as the last. If you love the fics of one of them, you'll love the other's.

@galvanizedfriend recently finished Speed Dating and it had the perfect rom-com vibes I needed. Check out her other fics because they need more love and often get overshadowed by The Wolf Series.

So, some thoughts on Femme Nights At Freddy's, so far

Most importantly on their Eclipse (imma call her Clipsy in this post for difference).

Is fun to watch how they are making their own story from what started as a one time gag that was supposed to be one-to-one with TSAMS, only genderbent. The retconing perfectly fine with me, as the characters and VAs find their footing as their own show for now.

And what was very exciting was to see their Femme Eclipse at last. Knew she was going to show up eventually, when knowing the model existed, back when it appeared in EAPS a couple of times already.

What I find very interesting is the way Clipsy interact with her Sunny and Moonie, compared to our OG Eclipse with the Prime Sun and Moon.

Already the vibe is much less true villain and mostly just a trickster annoyance.

In the Prime Dimension Eclipse messed with Roxanne to ruin Sun's chances with her, just to make her suffer. On FFNAF Clipsy merely pranked Sunny to mock her taste in men, doing nothing to Roxas besides stealing his looks for a bit. Then locked Sunny and Moonie up in the green room to go play with Moonie's portal. Where we get Moonie calling out "You could have just asked!"

Already this interaction is much more like a prank, than what Eclipse would do to Sun and Moon in the past, to make them suffer. Everything Eclipse did was with the strong bitterness he felt towards them, wanting to destroy them for the suffering he had to deal with himself.

Meanwhile we have Clipsy running around laughing gleefully and generally seeming to have a great time existing.

Which makes for an interesting difference, that had me considering some possible big factors causing this difference. Of course is merely just my personal thoughts on a show that's still retconing itself and figuring out it's own lore by a lot of improve and just moving with the flow.

The Eclipse we know and know.. Is not a happy person. Created to the great trauma of waking to conscience with the horrifying awareness that he was purposefully abandoned, unwanted and one button press away from being deleted as nothing more than inconvenient malware. A great trauma even Eclipse V4 still carries, as we have seen in his nightmares (his claims not to sleep because robot speaking volumes to me on this), even after having experienced dying several times, this is still the greatest trauma he has. His very birth his worst experience, as he has desperately clawed for survival and a right to exist ever since.

It messed him up so much he took his own code apart, the Killcode part he was born from, to free himself from its threat, and create Bloodmoon. A being of pure bloodlust that cannot be tamed.

As he worked his plans to get back at Sun and Moon for the crime of HOW he came to exist, he further tore his own code apart by removing the parts influenced by Sun. Seeing Sun's positivity and joy as weakness, he removed his own ability to feel such, and instead used it to create Lunar as a counterpart to himself as well as Moon. Damaging his own ability to be happy and show it.

Now... This does not sound very much like the Clipsy we met on FFNAF. And I find this very interesting.

Made me come to some conclusion, such as.. In the Femme Dimension, the Killcode might never have existed. Something else must have created Clipsy.

Clipsy did declare she was indeed created in the codes of Sunny and Moonie, and how the boredom of being stuck in someone else's head is her excuse to act out the way she does, when having her own body to run around and cause chaos.

She's not viewed as a big threat, not the same way Eclipse was. An annoyance at worst, for running her own show with no care for rules. And as mentioned earlier, Moonie telling Clipsy she could just ask to use the portal, aka she's not banned from interacting with the others nor their tech. They just wished she was more polite about it, instead of doing pranks for her goals.

Another factor in why I don't think we'll ever meet a Femme KC, is Moonie's reaction to Moon's comment on the latest game video on EAPS, where Moon says "not first time I murdered a child". Moonie's response being a shocked "WHAT?!"

Same to the additional comment of Moon mentioned it wouldn't be Eclipse's first assault on a child.

The violence that's such a big part of the story on TSAMS, does not exist in the Femme Dimension.

Clipsy went through a different arc than Eclipse, leading to a very different story and why the interactions between Sunny and Moonie with Clipsy, compared to the crew on TSAMS and their Eclipse.

Clipsy didn't carry the trauma of the Killcode, when awakening to sentencing. Possibly gained her own body much earlier than Eclipse. Not having the threat of the Killcode hanging over them, already created a lot of different paths compared to the Pillar lore of TSAMS.

Of course this very much would mean no Femme Bloodmoon too

I do feel Clipsy still did something to herself, as the others have mentioned the existence of Lunar in their dimension. But clearly Clipsy had no reason to remove her ability to feel joy, as she's clearly having a great time messing with the cast on FFNAF.

What else make her so different from Eclipse?

She's fearless.

She used Moonie's portal to drag Monti along into a Phobia Dimension and came out laughing, after Moonie and Sunny already discussed how the Phobia Dimension wouldn't have any horrors for Clipsy to face. She wanted to go back in, for more!

Eclipse is heavily traumatised and fearful in his very existence, coming off as bitterness, anger and paranoia. Ruined himself by removing parts of code that could had let him feel simple joy and happiness, because he saw it as weakness, fearing such feelings would lower his guards too much.

Clipsy instead.. Removed the fear itself. She's fearless, she has no phobias or trauma to a point that an entire dimension that exists to make people face their worst fears, have no negative effect on her. Meanwhile Monti is ready to kill Moonie for simply having that kind of dimension saved on her portal, after less than a minute of the horrors.

Lunar exists in the Femme Dimension, but created from a different coding than the Lunar we know. She's created from fear and worry.

Of course this is just my conclusion drawn from just one episode of Clipsy's first appearance, based on how she differs from the Eclipse we know. And how difference have Sunny and Moonie differ from Sun and Moon too.

And the thought amuses me to imagine a nervous and paranoid female Lunar, created with the coding Clipsy removed from herself to not have her own joy and fun ruined by trauma and phobia.

Now, the show is still finding its own footing, and much can still change as we get more episodes. Very possible this isn't the thoughts they made for Clipsy and Luna. Is just my thoughts on what has been observed so far.

I look forward to seeing where things will go from here as they keep exploring the possibilities of this new show.

I honestly don’t post about any sports all that often. But this Super Bowl compelled me to write this.

Now, right out the gate I will tell you I am a KC Chiefs fan. I was born one. I am a third-generation fan, going back to my grandpa who picked them at 19 when they were a godawful team and barely televised through my mom’s childhood, because only the good teams were televised then — so if they could watch them, it was to watch them get POUNDED.

I got to watch them win a Super Bowl after a 50 year drought. It was an exhilarating feeling, especially since I was constantly picked on at school by a classmate because of my team (he would go out of his way to harass me whenever his team — Ravens, btw — beat the Chiefs. And he was blissfully quiet the whole day after).

I got to see them win another one two years ago, in the affectionately nicknamed Kelce Bowl because of the Kelce brothers playing against each other. That was a fun year.

And another one after that.

Am I all that cut up about them losing this year?

No. I am not. Because I know it’s just a game. The dudebros need to chill out fr.

But I also know that this year…it wasn’t quite just a game, either. There’s other forces at play.

I honestly had no idea that some of the major Chiefs players supported trump until today. Just before I started writing this, in fact. I didn’t know trump wanted them to win either.

There was a bad taste in my mouth when I found that out.

I don’t consider myself to be a fanatic fan. But I am a proud fan. Someone once called me a bandwagon and I got offended.

But. But.

I am not a fan of this. Of the support and cozying up to of fascism, racism, queerphobia, you name it. It boggles my mind too because there are Black players on the Chiefs, there are Black players who CARRY the NFL’s legacy on their backs, and to support the trump administration is to take away their support.

You know what I am a fan of?

The political message of Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show.

I have never listened to any of Kendrick’s discography. I’ve never really been all that into hip hop or rap (my whiteness is showing I know).

Honestly, while I was watching, a lot of what was going on flew over my head. And I also had a hard time hearing the lyrics 🫣 again, not used to this genre of music 😅

But that’s what I thank tumblr for. Tumblr always has a way of bringing the unknown into the spotlight, and expanding my own knowledge on it.

I am very much not knowledgeable on the Black history surrounding Kendrick’s performance. But looking back, with a fresh set of eyes, what I do know and have put in effort to learn starts to be clear.

And I think it was genius. I think Kendrick Lamar’s performance is what saved this Super Bowl for me because I am vastly disappointed in my team right now, and still would have been even if they won.

I do not begrudge the Eagles their win. After all, this was a rematch 😜 Only fair you have your time to shine.

But in all seriousness, I think I prefer a loss to a win simply because I would not be able to enjoy that win knowing what I do now.

Besides. if it comes with the bonus of trump’s night being ruined? having to live with spending TAXPAYER MONEY (my money!!) to go and watch the game only to leave halfway through because Kendrick called him out? good. I can handle the sidelong taunts about the Chiefs and their bad decisions. I am mature enough to see that.

I am mature enough to see that an Eagles win, packed with Kendrick Lamar ripping the right a new one, is a win for us all — Chiefs fans included.

The next four years will be tough. But with such a spectacular performance? The trans flag? The Palestine and Sudan flag? Everything?

I think we have what we need to keep fighting. Kendrick, Chappell Roan, Lady Gaga, all of these artists lending their voices to support those who will be grievously impacted by what comes next is so important, especially at events like the Grammies and the Super Bowl. It shows that people care.

It shows that we can always care.

It’s just a game, yeah. But now it’s so much more.

You stood amongst the group of ragtag stragglers, newcomers from far-flung QZs and settlements across the west— outsiders yet to find their place in Jackson. 

The two brothers stood before you. You had met them before, both dark-eyed and stern, one with kind but sad eyes, the other with a darkness locked away inside him. Soft Texas accents. The older and the younger: Joel and Tommy.

Tommy looked at a roster in his hand, called out names and assignments: stable duty, clinic shifts, patrols. His eyes fell on you.

“Y/N. Guard duty, East Gate. Midnight to dawn.”

You felt a flush of panic but merely nodded. Joel’s eyes lingered on you as Tommy read out the rest of the assignments. As you turned to head back to the bunkhouse where you all temporarily resided, you heard your name in that same soft accent. You turned to see the older brother walking towards you. Joel. He squared up to you without even an introduction.

“What do you carry?”

“Well— I don’t—“

He looked you over, your tattered jeans and threadbare flannel, the boots with their soles barely hanging on.

“I’ll meet you when the guards change tonight.” He started to leave then doubled back. “You know how to shoot, right?”

You nodded quickly.

“Got a preference?”

You shrugged. “Anything bolt-action.”

You thought he almost smiled. But he merely turned and nodded.

“See you at midnight.”

Long after night had fallen, you made your way shivering through town, towards the East Gate. The other guard was climbing down from the ladder. He gave you a nod as you passed.

“Joel’s waiting for you,” the guard said. You paused at the foot of the ladder, bracing yourself, then made your way up the ladder to the top of the gate.

Joel’s back was to you, the cold wind rustling his graying hair. There was a bolt action Remington rifle slung over his shoulder. He turned when he heard you and handed the gun over.

“Ever used one of these?”

You took the weapon, automatically checking the chamber and lifting it to your shoulder to peer through the scope. You felt the smooth wooden stock, the cold barrel.

“This is an old gun,” you said.

“That one’s mine.”

You nodded. “I’ll take care of it.”

With that, you turned to face the dark woods, holding the rifle loosely in both hands.

“Where’s your cold weather gear?” came Joel's voice behind you.

You glanced back at him, blushing in the darkness.

“My party was attacked by raiders. This is all I have.”

Joel frowned. “Where’d you come from?”

“Kansas City.”

He grimaced. You read his look and shrugged. “I’m here now.”

"Where's the rest of your party?" he asked.

You went silent, unable to meet his eyes. Joel's gaze lingered on you. He started to shrug off his coat.

“What are you doing?” you said.

“It’s cold. You should take my jacket.”

“I don’t have anything to trade.”

“No trade. I’ll get it from you in the morning.”

He held out the heavy sheepskin coat, tarnished from years of wear. Reluctantly you took it and pulled it on. It was far too big; Joel was a large man, maybe six foot. But his warmth still clung to the coat. As you felt the weight of it on your shoulders, it felt like the closest you had come to physical touch in a long time. You immediately ceased shivering.

“You won’t have any trouble tonight,” Joel said, peering out at the woods. “We always post someone here as a precaution. But try not to let your guard down anyway.”

“I never do.”

Joel eyed you with something like pity tinged with admiration. “Coming from KC, I’d think not.”

You merely nodded as you turned your gaze back to the woods.

“I’ll be back in the morning,” Joel said.

You listened as he descended the ladder, his soft footsteps receding in the night. Then, nothing but darkness and stillness.

You zipped the coat up to your throat. The weight, the smell of it made you feel as if someone was still there with you. The soft wool brushed against your neck. You glanced back to where Joel had gone and listened. Nothing.

Then, burying your face into the collar of the coat, you took a deep breath in. Something shuddered through you. The smell of another. It nearly brought tears to your eyes. You had been alone for a long time, had forgotten what it was like to be so close to someone that you could smell them. What it was like to become familiar with someone’s scent.

You lifted your face, wiping your eyes. You felt the weight of Joel’s rifle in your hands, gazing out into the woods. Nothing but the soft rustle of the pines that had always, you thought, sounded like the slow, rasping breath of a sleeping giant.

The sky had barely begun to lighten behind heavy snowclouds as you heard footsteps behind you, then the slow plod of someone ascending the ladder.

“How’re you holding up?” came Joel's low voice.

“All clear.”

You turned to face him and frowned when you saw something in his hand. He held it out to you; a black denim shearling jacket. You shook your head automatically.

“I don’t have anything to trade.”

“Well, I came by this unethically so let’s just call it even.”

You eyed him uncertainly. Joel went on.

“There was a time when one of those raiders who jumped you could have been me.”

You lowered your eyes. Then you set the rifle down while you shrugged off Joel’s coat and traded with him. As he took it, you couldn’t help but think of how your warmth still clung to it, how he would feel it when he pulled it on.

The denim coat fit you perfectly. Joel eyed you with approval. “That’ll do for now. Next we’ll have you watch the Main Gate. I got a feeling you’re a good shot.”

When the next guard arrived, you descended the ladder after Joel. Before you started back towards the bunkhouse, you held the Remington out to him.

“You hold onto that a while.”

“I can’t do that.”

Joel gave a faint sigh. “Listen. I know what it’s like being new in this town. Some people here have gotten soft. They don’t remember what it was like in the QZ, what it was like living in the wilderness. They might look at you a little different for a while. So take the help where you can get it.”

“Did you?”

For the first time, Joel cracked a grin. “Fuck no. I fought like hell.”

Again you held out the rifle. “Then you understand.”

Joel stared at the gun for a moment then took it, resigned. “All right. Then we’ll get you one of your own.”

“I’ll trade you for it. When I have something of my own to trade.”

Joel nodded, shouldering the rifle with and turned away with another half smile.

“Keep fighting,” he said.

Then he was gone. You stood at the foot of the gate, bracing yourself against the thick logs. Your eyes fluttered shut; despite the new jacket, the smell of him still clung to you, refusing to leave your clothes, your skin. You buttoned the jacket against the morning chill and started towards the town with Joel's scent following you like a specter.

in my opinion, d*lena isnt enemies to lovers but its often called enemies to lovers. when i saw potential for REAL enemies to lovers with bonkai, it’s shot down.

TVD’s and imo most of the fandom version of enemies to lovers is really bad boy/good girl. The woman in question is good and pure but could potentially like someone who isn’t “good” that is appealing enough for the fans. Damon and Elena weren’t equals. Damon could hurt Elena as much as he wanted to (killing Jeremy, abusing Caroline or Bonnie to his whims if Elena did not act as he wanted her too) and Elena couldn’t do anything about it. It only lessens (but never quite stops) when Elena is more receptive to his advances. I’d even argue that Elena never hated Damon when she was with Stefan. She just refused his advances as she loved Stefan. Damon and Klaus could never remain the villains that they were when it came to Elena or Caroline because they can overpower them and have them bend to their will if need be.

BonKai never has that problem. Kai can’t do anything to Bonnie that she can’t do back! Bonnie doesn’t check off the damsel in distress boxes in the way that Elena and Caroline does. Bonnie never being the damsel is another issue with her writing. Elena and Caroline are damsels, people feel for them and understand their struggles since IRL they probably felt just as powerless. Bonnie’s a fighter, tenfold even when she feels like she has nothing. It’s not to say the other women aren’t strong just that Bonnie’s different than them. Her magic immediately sets her apart. It’s her defense. So in return, Kai can push and Bonnie can push back, and better yet? She WANTS to fight back. He opened up a darker aspect that Bonnie never got to experience long term before. It’s electric, it’s actually ya know a REAL FIGHT than what DE/KC has. BonKai’s dynamic is dark and compelling it leaves you questioning what else can they do? How will they do it? Kai doesn’t need a redemption arc to deal with Bonnie because in some moments as Kai explained his family’s history we can see Bonnie be intrigued by him. Hell, look at the gif, these are supposed to be enemies There’s a sexual tension here. Actually, Damon needs to leave so they could fuck lmao. The scene where Kai tells Bonnie he wants to be more like her is direct copy of how Klaus speaks on Caroline’s “goodness”.

What I truly think stops people from shipping BonKai and admitting they have sexual sub-texts is because we don’t see BonKai act romantic. It is a complete lie to say that BonKai doesn’t have chemistry. They do and it’s sexual, and intense when they’re fighting.

Kat’s an amazing actress, but her love interests that she’d get were so bland next to her and working with Chris really showed what she could do if given the platform. (Not to say that her scenes with other villains are bad).

The same fans that criticize BonKai will hyperfocus on the violence and Bonnie’s trauma - which is important don’t have the discussions that while Kai did traumatize her…. Bonnie’s friend group is the larger center of Bonnie’s trauma and it goes unnoticed. Every single person in the MFG has benefited from Bonnie being harmed/sacrified or was the person inflicted said harm. If Bonnie is so deeply traumatized by Kai, then neither Elena or Caroline should’ve slept with and saw said romantic interests in that light. The one time they chose (and I’m not mad that they did it’s how they did itlol) to really center in on Bonnie’s trauma that was when people made it known they liked BonKai. If she was white, they wouldn’t have cared to even admit the trauma. They’d throw them together anyway. The Gemini and Bennetts have history, the season before we see Bonnie with Liv and even interacting with Jo in S6. Then everything with Kai. The plot line was there for the taking.

I didn’t whack Legacies and how they handled Kai & his relationship with Jade so let’s do that now. To be clear for what I’m about to say isn’t on Chris for aging. I thought he looked hot to me! Anyways:

Legacies and their cesspool of mess is typically a blip on my brain. However, what I cannot forget nor forgive. Is that Kai/Chris was easily visibly older than this actress (as expected that’s not the main issue) yet Kai and Jade were working together, were told they started off as enemies and eventually started fucking. Now whose dynamic does this replicates without the sex? BonKai.

Which means Kai being violent or lacking a redemption arc was never the issue with BonKai. It resides in Bonnie/Kat being a black woman and not wanting her to have those romances and screen time.

Reading analysis about Cal while screaming into the void known as an empty room and here to publish my unneeded thoughts about my blorbo.

Cal deserved more screen time, he deserved more chapters of his POV and honestly VA did him so dirty 😔

Because our dear RQ characters are definitely unreliable narrators, the reader’s perception of characters is based on their own POVs and how other characters perceive them. Unfortunately, every character describes Cal as a lovesick puppy, a mopey matchstick, a dense moron and everything in between. It's not that these are wrong, they're part of his character, but these are incredibly surface level traits which leads to the general perception of Cal’s character being superficial, bland and boring. It seems like his only purpose in the story is to be Mare’s love interest because Maven betrayed her.

However, he has a whole lot of untapped potential. My man did not get betrayed by Mare, betrayed by his brother, find out his mother was murdered buy Elara, get forced to kill his own father, lose everything he had and got sentenced to execution all in 1 day for people to call him boring. Honestly, when I listed it out like that, I truly realised how crazy the whole situation was. Within the span of a day he lost any form of stability he had even known in his life, and found out that one if not the closest person to him (maven) was a lie. If that isn't traumatic, I really wouldn't like to hear whatever other definition of trauma there is out there. I think the only reason we very much overlook Cal's trauma is because 1. It happened in real time, 2. He's no longer a child, 3. We didn't see it from his POV and 4. In this scene he and his father are technically the "bad guys".

Here's the thing though, he has never talked about it. Not once. Never. The closest we ever saw this man to losing his mind was when he was planning the Corros prison break. He'd never mentioned this trauma from any POV, not even his own. Maven told Mare about how Elara messed up everything in his brain, and how he never recovered from it. For Cal, we never found out how he dealt with it and how close to the brink of insanity he was. If he ever just felt like exploding and destroying everything. Nobody except Mare ever asked him if he was ok. He had every right to go mad. But he didn't. Some miraculous way, Cal managed to maintain some semblance of sanity and that is unimaginable mental strength like holy shit.

Another way too glossed over plot point was why he chose the crown over mare in the epilogue of KC. This one I get genuinely frustrated over sometimes because there were so many reasons for him to make that decision. I know many people have talked about this before but I'm just going to repeat it 1. It's the best political move in the situation. Cal isn't stupid, no matter how many people seem to think he is. He knows better than to let the place of King open for anyone to snatch up and that it was the only way the Silvers and the Scarlet Guard would ever work together. 2. To him it's his moral obligation. Cal's loyalty and sense of duty is a huge part of his character. All his life he's been told it's his responsibility, his destiny to become king and serve the people. Not only that, the crown is his family's legacy and considering the fact that he was the one to behead his own father Cal likely feels even more morally obligated to become king. The words he said to Mare, "I love you and I want you more than anything else in this world". He uses the word "want", but how can a want, a desire ever compare to what he believes is a need, an obligation? It's not that he didn't love mare enough like Evangeline suggested, or that he fell prey to the power's lure like Mare insinuated in the epilogue. He did what he full heartedly believed was right, and unfortunately this was barely touched upon in war storm which made me want to tear my hair out.

This yap session is nearly done, just hold on a bit longer. The last thing that DEFINITELY should have gotten more words was his ultimate decision to abdicate. All we got was him reading Coriane's diary, Evangeline telling him "if it's not too late for me, it's not too late for you" and then the decision. WHERE'S THE IN-BETWEEN THOUGHT PROCESS? He read through Coriane's diary and realised that she wanted her son to have a different life, and of course he probably had some thoughts about it. Considering how he knew the Scarlet Guard and Montfort weren't with him, how he still loved Mare, perhaps realizing what his life could have been with an alive mother was what tipped him over the edge. Perhaps it was loyalty to his mother he never had the chance to know, loyalty to the little of her forever bound in a gold-covered book, buried in the graveyard known as time. Maybe he asked Julian who seemed to want him to reconsider his decision as king, but we'll never know because it wasn't written 😭😭😭

Cal is incredibly kind, loyal, warm, passionate, motivated, and indecisive, and I love that about him. His story could have been a tragedy, a prodigy put on a pedestal that had everything and was forced to be everything, reduced to nothing in an instant. But it wasn't. He found love in a girl that took everything from him, and rebuilt himself a far better life from the ashes of nothing. Normally the circle between characters I like and characters I respect rarely overlap, but somehow this 6'3 adorable ass dork stuck himself straight in both and this is why I will defend what his character is and could have been. Funny story I wanted to copy this essay into a document for fun just to see how many words and guess who highlighted a portion of it and clicked space by accident. Hahaha (that whole thing was 1000 words btw I need to learn to shut up)
