One part of how amatonormativity affects stories is that while platonic relationships between characters have to be specifically justified and explored (why are these characters friends, how do they get along, what do each of them get out of the relationship and value in the other?) "Love" of the romantic sort gets treated as a motivation that needs no explanation and can be applied to a character universally in the same way always. Why are these characters in love? They just are, man!! It's Love! You don't need to think about why a character would fall in love or unique ways in which their romantic feelings would be expressed because it's Love and Love needs no justification and always leads to the same results: crush-> confession -> kiss -> have sex (if age-appropiate) -> marriage -> 2.5 kids and a house.

This can lead to some really badly written romance where it feels like the characters stop being themselves to be pushed through the standard beats of the Romance Plot with no thought about how well those beats fit them. This might be part of why fandom's so obsessed with noncanon ships, as non-romantic relationships do need to have a specific dynamic and reason to care about one another, which it turns out also makes for a more interesting basis for a romantic relationship.

However, sometimes fandom runs with this phenomenon and does it to itself. And I don't just mean rolling an interesting dynamic through the Romance Plot Flattener themselves (though that too.) I mean that fandom sometimes takes a look at a canon romantic relationship and assumes the same rules of "no explanation or expression needed" must apply even when there is a unique and specific dynamic with narrative underpinnings and justifications to dig into. The fact that the characters are "In Love" supplants all their other motivations, and the fact that they are in love cannot possibly be something that tells you something specific about a character, because Love is Universal and Hegemonic and always manifests in the same way everytime, duh. And then some of those people decide they dislike this canon romance and it's shallow and boring and there's nothing to it except cookie cutter romance even when there literally is you have just decided via mass hypnosis not to see it– This is a post about Suselle Deltarune.

I haven't played deltarune yet and only watched some let's plays, but Tenna makes me so unwell. The comment "divorce so bad tv got divorced" Convinced me to check it out lmao.

But that's not the point of the post. I just want to speculate on smt I just thought.

Why are Tenna and Spamton on such bad terms?

It might be obvious, but I want to share my view on their relationship. It's probably a common sense, but I don't think Tenna is so pissed off and hurt by Spamton just because he left him and didn't sign his contract.

Tenna is ofc pissed because of that, I'm not denying that, but the real reason, at least for me, is a little bit deeper.

As we all know, Tenna has a LOT of abandonment issues. It's seen through his dialogue with Kris and his desperate desire to be watched, to be seen and to have the audience. It is implied that he did hear a lot of Toriel and Asgore's fights multiple times, but he may be unaware of their divorce or at least he surely doesn't know about Asriel's departure to college. So from his perspective, Tenna was abandoned, plugged out because he became obsolete. He was ultimately abandoned. And we don't know when Tenna was turned off or when he was spending time with Spamton. So he probably lived with this pain for a long time.

Now, this is great and all, but what am I getting at? Well, let's take a look at how Tenna describes the scene of their last meeting (or at least I think it was)

"He suddenly had to take the phone call...But when he picked it up his face went pale... And je ran right out of the room with the receiver hanging!.. So I picked it up. ..... But there was nobody there!"

Tenna doesn't have any knowledge of this entity that was controlling/helping Spamton. So, for him, Spamton got scared of smt that Tenna didn't hear or know existed, and ran away without any explanation. Tenna might (and does!!!) consider this an abandonment. Spamton just left him behind. And THIS Is the main reason of why he's upset. Ofc that deal and the secret to being a big shot was important to him, but losing a friend was probably even worse. (Even though I enjoy a romantic reading of their relationship, I do want to say that it's not really important if it is or isn't one. They could be just really good friends, mb they were the only ones who truly understood each other even if it was purely platonic)

So, in short, despite having a very deep relationship, which is proved by Tenna keeping the pipis, Spamton abandoned his buddy and presumably left him with no explanation to never see him again. Ofc his buddy with abandonment issues and anxiety doesn't take it well and grows to resent Spamton a lot.

In Spamton's case, in turn, he might've never wanted to leave Tenna hanging like that, but his benefactor might've not left him a choice.

Spamton was genuinely terrified by what he heard and probably didn't mean for this scene to play out like this. Whatever was said on this call shook Spamton a lot and maybe this is the moment his "luck ran out". Correct me if I'm wrong, but this might be the begging of Spamton's downfall where he lost everything. Multiple terrible events back to back and loneliness caused him to have a mental break. I assume this is when his mental state went to sh_t. Spamton might've started to envy Tenna cuz from his perspective he's got everything he wanted. And plus continuous mentions of obsolescence of email didn't help I feel. Ofc, it's not like Spamton could explain to Tenna the identity of his benefactor and why he was afraid of him. This secret became the foundation for their friendship/relationship downfall imo.

TLDR: I think it's kind of Vi/Powder situation, where both didn't mean to hurt or abandon each other, but the lack of another person's perspective and secrets lead to the ultimate downfall of their relationship imo

At least Knock Out got it right that you have to explain your mistakes and your reasons before people forgive you and if people understand you and they're ready, they'll be able to forgive you. Because a sincere apology and explanation go a long way. Sincerity and honesty are what makes a relationship work, platonic or otherwise.

Because these two crossing this line between them, the line that's been there for so long and that's caused so many issues... and Ait being unable to hang on the way Mawin has, Ait starting to pull away despite Mawin saying he loved him because forgiving himself is so much harder than being forgiven.

Mawin is not gonna accept this barrier. He's done. He loves Ait and Ait loves him and nothing is going to stand between them any longer.

The Hundred Line Girls and How They'd Comfort You

ft. Kako, Hiruko, Kurara, Kyoshika, Nozomi, Darumi, Moko, and Tsubasa in that order. Can be read as either romantic or platonic

-Kako-

Those of you picky eaters may not like to hear this, but her go-to is food. You might need to come up with an excuse about not feeling well enough or something along those lines to get out of the situation. Thankfully, she's understanding enough to back down.

That aside, she's actually a wonderful companion to have by your side in hard times. Her psychic visions come in handy, too, so oftentimes you won't even have to seek her out. She'll knowingly walk over to you without a word, before gently holding your hand and consoling you.

That doesn't mean she'll just sit there forever, though. Hopefully, the situation is something simple and you're able to give her a quick explanation to calm her worries. If you're being intentionally dodgy about the subject in question, though... Well, you know her. She's got a curious detective mind, and she won't hesitate to snoop through whatever means she has to in order to figure out what it is you're hiding from her. For all she knows, someone could be hurting you, and she just couldn't forgive herself if that crime were to continue happening unobstructed. She hopes you won't mind too much.

-Hiruko-

Comforting... may not be the right word. Admittedly, her word choices and general tone aren't the most suited for these kinds of tasks. But still, to your surprise, she's trying. Maybe not perfectly, but you can tell the effort she's putting into it. She leans towards the monologue sort of pep talking, not actually asking you what's wrong and instead speaking about the matter indirectly. If you're someone who gets lost in their head easily or stuck on certain thoughts, these moments tend to help break you out of that loop.

If you ask her why, she'll scoff and give a simple explanation about "team morale" or whatever, but you've been around her enough to know her typical approach to improving team morale (or lack of). The special treatment, even if she refuses to acknowledge it, isn't lost on you. So please thank her for it once you get the chance. She may pretend to not know what you're talking about, but there's a good chance you'll just so happen to catch a soft smile on her face later on.

-Kurara-

Oh, Kurara, the queen of emotional swings and insensitivity. Unfortunately, similar to Hiruko, comforting people isn't exactly her forte. If anything, she's likely the reason why you need comforting in the first place, depending on your relationship with her.

Despite that, if you've managed to worm yourself into her heart deep enough for her to consider trying to cheer you up in the first place, she will step up to the plate and do her best to help. It's not like she's heartless, you know. Be prepared for—at the bare minimum—a delicious bowl of steaming hot curry the next morning. You better appreciate it, got it?!

If you're close enough to the point in which she takes her tomato mask off around you, then you're in for a real treat, a rarity so difficult to obtain that it's not even up for sale—her kind words. Given, she's still shy about it all, but... Well, you've managed to make her feel comfortable being her true, unadulterated self around you. If she couldn't even recognize that and return the flavor, how could she take pride in her status as an Oosuzuki?

-Kyoshika-

Depending on your tastes, Kyoshika is either the best or the worst person to have around when you're upset. She may not have much experience supporting companions like this, but what she does know is how to comfort herself. In summary... Yeah, you're going to be pulled into an anime-binging marathon with her immediately. Hope you're a Naruto fan. Wait, why is she crying? This is a filler episode. Nothing's even happening. Her behavior is so perplexing that it may somehow wrap around into actually being helpful by virtue of pure confusion.

All that aside, comforting you brings out one of her greatest strengths, one that's often buried under her off-color comments and concerningly low levels of common sense: emotional maturity. It turns out the power of friendship (or more) is in fact both real and something she strives to embody each and every day. When push comes to shove, she'll always be one of the first to put aside things like petty grudges or sacrifice her free time for the sake of the people she cares most about, and you're no exception. So please, feel free to confide in her about your troubles. She'll happily listen.

Aaaand now she's crying again. Good lord, get this woman some tissues.

-Nozomi-

All of the other women here are delightful to have around in their own special ways. With that said, if you're struggling and in need of some good ol' normal comforting, that's where Nozomi comes in. This kind of situation brings out a very motherly side of her, with her offering a drink or snack along with her reassuring words.

Another great thing about turning to Nozomi is that she's an incredibly proactive person in many ways, which comes in handy here. Need help brainstorming ways of tackling your issue? No worries, she'll sit with you and mentally chart out various possible solutions. You just bawled your eyes out in front of her? Wait here, she'll run and get some water and tissues for you stat.

Perhaps as yet another side effect of her proactiveness, she's surprisingly good as far as tough love goes too—in the event that you need it. Of course, she'll still support you and be on your side, but don't act surprised if she points out your self-destructive behavior, logical fallacies, and the like. Nozomi wants the best for you, and sometimes that requires you to change and work on yourself. Don't worry! She'll be right by your side cheering you on the whole time, so you've got this.

-Darumi-

Even if you're on the more friendly side with her, Darumi's a bit of a fish out of water in this regard. Having people she's close with has never really been her style, after all. That's a total death flag in a killing game, you know! What, not funny? Fine, she supposes she can put her whole murder shtick away for the time being, since you two are alone and all. But only for a little while, or else she's going to give herself the creeps.

To your (potential) surprise, the following string of words that flows out of her partially-painted mouth sound as if they came straight out of a novel with how overwhelmingly sentimental they are. Her voice pitches up a little while its volume winds down ever so slightly, and suddenly you're left feeling ridiculous for ever worrying so much in the first place.

She may not know everything, but what she is certain of is that you don't either. So hey, why spend so much time beating yourself up mentally, feeling guilty, or whatever else is troubling you? You're just like anyone else, trying their best to get through every day. Sure, you might fail to meet that goal sometimes (or if you're like her, all the time). But so what? Just keep on living and that's good enough in her book.

-Moko-

Have you noticed before just how integral Moko is to the morale of everyone else in the academy? How her stories and bravado captivate all who hear them, providing them with greatly-needed distractions in their darkest moments? Well, guess what. You're going to hear a heck of a lot about her grand adventures in the ring for the next couple of hours, so get yourself comfortable.

Don't forget, though, that she's more than happy to let you swap roles if that's what you'd prefer. She, similar to Kyoshika, is a pretty dang emotionally mature person behind her silly shenanigans and can handle deeply personal topics just as well as lighthearted ones. In particular, if you're in any way struggling with your self-image, she'll be on top of that in no time. Hey, just because she's super confident in herself doesn't mean she can't know a thing or two about giving pep talks. Even the pros have their low moments from time to time. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

As a bonus, she's absolutely down for any skincare routines or other sleepover-esque fun. And no, your gender doesn't matter. She's not the sort to judge or gatekeep her beauty tips and products.

-Tsubasa-

It's times like these that make you understand why Tsubasa has such a solid friend group back home, even with her queasiness. Confiding in her makes you feel almost like you've known her your entire life with how attentive and understanding she is. It also helps that she has a good head on her shoulders and is capable of assessing whatever situation you're dealing with impartially.

Funnily enough, she sort of talks like a grandparent when she gets really deep in thought regarding what advice to give you. Maybe it's a quirk of hanging out with her old man so often. You can even catch her subconsciously squishing her facial features in what you imagine is an attempt to replicate his own appearance. Don't comment on it though, or she'll wind up super flustered and completely lose track of her thoughts. You also may receive a light kick from her tennies in retaliation.

Okay but genuine question : why is it that whenever tkk travel together, we deadass never hear about it like RADIO SILENCE NADA 🔕 till they break the news to us one way or another. That private trip they did when jk cropped himself from the picture for tae's birthday (mom & dad dresses) or the luxury hotel after World Cup or even Hawaii like....etc etc...how come nobody stalks them or leak their locations / photos...??? Either stalkers cease to exist from the world or tkk take extra ultra mega precautions to not be seen not even once and if its the case why on earth they go to these extra lengths to hide if there's nothing to hide ?? Like why be soooo adamant about keeping the secrecy to this degree.

On the other hand, whenever jkjm travel, everybody and their mama suddenly know about it. The whole earth recognizes them and leaks their locations lmao this has to be intentional in some way. Either the marketing is doing its work to keep ppl on their toes to expect content, or they are just that careless cuz there is just nothing to hide or both.

If you really think about it, it really does make the most sense that if there is a couple hidden in bts, the odds of it being tkk are higher, waaaaay higher than any of the other pairs, jkjm included. The privacy and secrecy of it all are suspicious. It just makes more sense that if they are real couple, then they ought to go extra just to hide it and keep their trips to themselves.

I'm not going to complain about no one stalking Taekook and taking pics and video of them. I'm thrilled that they can travel and spend time together without that happening. I'm a Taekooker who gets annoyed when people post the Namsan pics because those were 100% taken without their consent first.

I have no doubts about Taekook being it and no other ship is even a possible concern for me. But I also want to make it clear I don't believe based on vibes or the privacy/secrecy surrounding them. That plays only a very minor role in my beliefs about them, in that it isn't a reason I started believing as much as it just made sense (like every other dot that has connected) that a queer couple would be way more cautious and protective of their privacy in general.

I believe because of the things my brain can't find a platonic explanation for. Like the intentionally hidden from official cams/big screen nape kiss, the matching Sweetheart shirts on the same day, or "To Find You" or "Oh No Oh Yes". The amount of time they spent together in solo era which was all outside of work obligations. The fact that even with spending all of that time together immediately before and after the Hawaii trip they still missed each other so much when Tae went to shoot his photobook Jungkook flew to Hawaii to be with him, that shows me how much they mean to each other.

I don't expect anything from the company where Taekook is concerned. I don't even want it. I want that to be theirs and theirs alone. I truly do not need anything else from them other than what they choose to share.

so obsessed with this clip. the way sydney turns the radio off so you can hear richie say it. the way it's framed almost as if they're carmy's thoughts about syd (them being the only ones on screen, the use of present tense). the way richie's topic of conversation shifts away from it as carmy moves away from sydney. the way this is not even 15 minutes into the show.

Thoughts on Leverage OT3 and Canon

I think that if some of the things that the OT3 said to each other were said by a man and a woman in a TV show, the audience would clearly read it as romantic. Like if a hetero ship said:

“For better or worse, we change together,” from the Rundown Job {for better, for worse, in sickness and in health…}

and “til my dying day” from the Long Goodbye Job {to death do us part},

and (you never really need anything.) “Yeah, I did [soft, loving look], but thanks to you I don’t have to search anymore,” from the Long Goodbye Job

and Hardison’s “for tonight, [name] has perfect pitch. You ever wonder how Britney Spears sounds so good on her tracks? Well, this is it, except mine's is in real time, Baby.” From the Studio Job,

and Parker’s [I’ll] “be here for you forever and we’ll always be together” from the Harry Wilson Job,

and Hardison’s “I’m here if you need me. Anytime,” from the Fractured Job

and the Hurricane Job with Parker and Eliot’s “I can’t do this without you.” “Well, that’s never gonna happen, [name].” “The arm around me was a nice touch,”

and “I’m making a four-course meal for them” from the Date Night Job

and “maybe I don’t like watching someone I care about take punches meant for me. You know, maybe I don’t wanna do a job that involves me watching you get hurt all the time.” From the Weekend in Paris Job

and “I mean, I’m in a great relationship, but would I even be in it if it were up to those swiping machines?” “We are in trouble.” “Nah, I mean, [me and you]? That’s fine. That’s working.”

If all those things had been said between one male and one female character, I feel like the audience would pretty clearly read it as romantic. I mean, my mom insists that Joan Watson and Sherlock Holmes got together romantically at the end of Elementary because of the hug and the line, “I’m staying. Of course I’m staying,” even though it did not read it that way to me. General audiences will read a lot of things as confirming a m/f couple because they see that kind of story so often that it’s what they expect.

Now granted, TV shows do like their slow burns because it provides tension without having to create problems in an established relationship, so fans of straight ships often do have a long wait for canonization. However, people didn’t question whether Josh and Donna from The West Wing or Tony and Ziva from NCIS were romantically interested in each other. It was clearly canon that they had those type of feelings or that type of interest for each other, there were just other things getting in the way of them actually starting to date. If a hetero ship said all those quotes listed above to each other, their romantic interest would absolutely be read as canon by the audience, even if they had not yet been shown on a date or kissing in the show. But because this is between 3 people, the OT3 is a somewhat niche ship in the general audience of Leverage outside of tumblr and AO3.

Like many of us here, I also felt let down when the Maria plotline happened in season 1 of L:R, especially after John Roger’s tweet that they’d canonized the OT3 after the Long Goodbye Job and his tweet that “your OT3 is safe” about the reboot. He specifically called it the OT3 in both cases, which pretty clearly refers to polyamory. If he meant that the characters that make up the OT3 (Hardison, Parker, and Eliot) are safe as in alive and healthy, then he should have said that. If he meant their friendship was safe, then he should have said that. If he meant they are in an open relationship or that Eliot is in a queer  emotional relationship with the other two but is not romantically and/or se✖ually involved with them, that should have been made clearer in the show. Instead, by the end of season 1, we got Eliot looking for fulfillment in life by trying to find a girlfriend to settle down with, and Parker qualifying her statement that they'd be together forever with “I know it's not the same [as a romantic relationship].”

Parker and Hardison’s romance is clearly stated and shown in the series (as it should be because they are awesome <3), but Eliot is not included in this unambiguously romantic relationship. While I am loving the partnership between the 3 of them and all of the OT3 nods so far in the 3rd season, I am also a little frustrated that they are just nods.

The burden of proof for a queer and/or poly ship is higher than a m/f pair. There is enough canon evidence to make a compelling argument that Eliot is the life partner of Hardison and Parker. However, the burden of proof for this type of relationship is higher because it is not what audiences are trained to expect. I adore the 3 of them together, and whether the series would show them all kissing or give us open, explicit discussion of their relationship as something like a queer-platonic partnership (probably not using that term, but that kind of relationship), I would love it either way. As it is now though, we get hints and nods that make OT3 shippers freak out, but that can be easily overlooked by general audiences as just good friends. If they are meant to be read as just really good friends, I wish John Rogers would not have used the term OT3, the definition of which includes the word “polyamory.” If they are meant to be polyamorous, I wish the show would make it unambiguous that’s what is going on, meeting that higher burden of proof for queer relationships.

On the other hand, I don’t want to complain about queer-baiting, because I feel like it’s not allowed to confirm your main characters are in a polyamorous relationship in a procedural like this that doesn’t center relationship drama. That seems like it’s just not possible yet. They are allowed to have a canon lesbian main character now- unlike in the original series- but I feel like maybe polyamory is still not an option. So the only other option than what the writers are currently doing is to totally disavow the OT3, which I obviously don’t want to happen. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong by the end of L:R season 3. I would absolutely love that to happen (dear God, please make that happen). But I’m not holding my breath.

I do still really appreciate John Rogers for the way he runs the show (both in the original and for season 3 of L:R) and for openly acknowledging and even supporting polyamorous ships, which is rare to find. I am aware that they fought for more queer representation in the original series but were only allowed that one cop lady from the Experiment Job in a single episode. Maybe this is the most they can get away with now, or maybe they are choosing to walk the line between hinting for the shippers while maintaining plausible deniability for everyone else. An intentional position of strategic ambiguity.

My point is that even if you don't account for the OT3 tweets, the canon status of the relationship between Hardison, Eliot, and Parker is complicated. It has enough textual evidence that if it were about a m/f pairing, then at minimum their interest/intent would be considered obviously canon. However, it does not meet the higher burden of proof that general audiences need in order to clearly realize when a queer relationship is happening. So it's left in this limbo between fully canon supported and totally unnoticed.

See, I think Charles’ annoyance and frustration with the Cat King really was just pure protectiveness and not any kind of jealousy - it’s understandable, because Edwin is not telling him what happened even though something clearly did, which is not typical for them. Edwin doesn’t usually hide things like this! Of course he’s worried!

Charles’ reaction to Monty, on the other hand, is difficult to explain in a way that isn’t jealousy. You could say he’s being protective again, but Charles shows no sign of distrust in Monty, and had no idea of who Monty was or that he might betray them - he was actually very chill with him, except in a select few specific scenes. You could say he just doesn’t like him because he got brushed off during their first meeting, but not only does that not seem like Charles at all, it also doesn’t make sense, since, again, in most instances, Charles is genuinely friendly and is happy when Monty compliments him and seems to have come around to liking him (it completely flies over his head that this is a petty jab at Edwin on Monty’s part but oh well hahaha). You could say it changes up their status quo a bit and that bothers Charles. I do think this bothers him a bit, but I think, unlike Edwin, Charles’ fear and frustration here is directed more at situations (the Cat King whisking him away for several hours, as an example) than others. He’s sociable and likes being able to talk to new people. There’s absolutely no way he’d begrudge Edwin doing the same - and he doesn’t… with Niko. Edwin and Niko hit it off and become very close and that never bothers Charles at all. He’s incredibly endeared to her, just like the rest, and for the most part, he’s chill with Monty too, and smiles pretty knowingly when Edwin confesses to him having awakened some feelings. The only exceptions, where he shows definite annoyance, are when Monty first shows up and gets really in Edwin’s personal space to show him the astrology chart he made, and when Edwin is so sucked into the book Monty gave him that he doesn’t hear that Charles is talking to him, to which he annoyedly says that they seem to have been “spending a lot of time together”.

You could say he’s unused to having anyone get in Edwin’s personal space like that, but, again, Niko. She’s very tactile with him and he doesn’t seem to mind all that much; they spend time together watching things. If it was just someone getting close with Edwin in general, not only would that be weirdly possessive for the character, but it would also mean he would show discomfort with anyone getting close, I think. Does Charles see Monty as more of a potential threat than Niko, seeing as he knows her and her personality and doesn’t know Monty? Well, maybe, but again, Charles shows no sign of distrusting Monty at all.

Monty is a boy. Okay. So something about seeing Edwin so close to a boy that is not him, getting lost in thought over something this boy gave him, really rubs Charles the wrong way. Charles appears to catch on just as quickly as anyone else that there is something (or it looks like something) between Edwin and Monty. He is not surprised when Edwin comes out to him in episode 6, and in fact, seems to have just been waiting for him to verbalize it. He smiles and is not bothered at all by Edwin showing (what he thinks is) a romantic interest in Monty - he just doesn’t like it when Monty clearly shows a romantic interest in Edwin. Um. Well. Well.

Charles is jealous. I really don’t know what else to say.

Look, when I first watched this show, I actually didn’t want them to end up together romantically - I love the idea of one having fallen in love with another who does not reciprocate and the two of them still loving each other just as much. That Edwin’s confession made them closer instead of making things awkward is such a beautiful outcome to this build up and I absolutely love it. However. On my two rewatches, I caught a lot more little details, and I think it would be very strange if the show did not follow up on this. That, plus the deliberate quality of these “jealousy” moments where the camera focuses on him, Charles’ Orpheus coding throughout the show, the fact that Edwin’s arc was far more about realizing his feelings for Charles specifically than just coming to terms with his sexuality, and that even the actors admit that Charles’ response to the confession kind of left things open, it really seems to me like the path leads to a romantic endgame for them, or at the very least, that this possibility will be explored in more depth.

**This is just my reading of it. Please do not use this post as a gotcha for anyone who loves them as a platonic duo or people who really love Crystal and Charles together (because let’s face it, they’re super cute too). I’m just doing my rambles. As per usual.

PLEASE elaborate on the phoenix and franziska shenanigans during the 7yg you have NO idea how much i like them

I am someone who loved the investigative portion of Bridge to the Turnabout where Franziska had to babysit Phoenix when he wasn't allowed to follow Miles and Iris. I think when he's not her rival defense attorney and is looking particularly pathetic, she is actually pretty chill around him. She is not exempt from his aura that gets young women to imprint on him and follow him around.

She is genuinely offended on his behalf when he gets disbarred because he beat Miles and Manfred and even her! why the hell would he cheat in a case against a teenager! She does not think for a second that he forged that diary page because she knows firsthand how he throws himself into things and cannot prepare an entire evil plan for shit. However, she does not know how to convey this to him so she bullies Miles into flying him and Trucy around because Miles is almost too good at being resigned to pine sadly from a distance.

It's also important to know that she sees Phoenix being a caring father to Trucy and as someone who never really had a valid father, decided that maybe (ex) defense attorneys have rights... Even if Miles didn't get his shit together to put a ring on That Man's finger, Franziska would find herself in Phoenix's found family, it's only a matter of time.

For some reason Phoenix doesn't go to court with Edgeworth, maybe he can't stand being there while not being a lawyer, maybe he forgot he wasn't an attorney once and got kicked out for yelling out an objection, it doesn't matter, Trucy gets to be Edgeworths weirdgirl assistant and Phoenix is stuck investigating with Franziska and they are the worst people to keep each other out of trouble. We're talking about 'guy who ran across a burning bridge' and 'woman who got shot in the shoulder and still managed to get to court eventually' they are an unstoppable duo when they find something they can both get behind.

If anyone can slowly get Franziska to loosen up and learn to embrace the childhood that she lost, it would be Phoenix. I mean, this girl passed the bar at like 13 there was no way she had time to binge she-ra and check out books on drawing horses from the library. He would convince her to get a cat who hangs out in a window backpack that she can carry around during her travels because it turns out that her life is kinda lonely and she totally seems like the cat lesbian type. She is also allergic to cats so she has to get a sphinx or a devon rex or just the most gargoyle/ golbin looking creature to walk on this earth. That just seems like her vibe.

said very contemplatively. honestly i do think link click's boundaries between different types of relationships + the coding it uses for each relationship is very archetypical and clear-cut (like. nuanced, well-developed, well-done. but: very very clearly defined to me). i think the fact that it's so deeply chinese about those different types of relationships maybe gets lost in the cultural barrier for western fans?
