If you look closely at their eyes (specifically the lashes/makeup), Jamil’s rounded eyeliner doesn’t seem to behave the same as Kalim’s - Kalim's remains in the same position when he closes his eyes, whereas Jamil's ends up moving downward like this:

...Which implies that Jamil's isn't eyeliner, but in fact his own lashes 😭

And conveniently his loungewear card shows us how he looks without makeup, which also confirms that yes, he's... naturally like this, bro's just built different I suppose

Jasmine. The scent of freshly ground jasmine tea leaves permeated the air, an attempt to cast a relaxing affect. However, it only had the opposite affect, as you knew enough to determine where the letter might've originated from. A vertical envelope sealed, with no wax seal or string to hold it shut. A perfectly normal envelope but labeled urgent.

Each word seemed so carefully planned, the ink creating coils and lines like woven fabric as if printed. It nearly felt too unnatural, from the formalness that spiraled into quick and rushed writing. After this many letters, you've picked up by now that the neatest ones likely have something to hide, but they likely got tired of hiding it. Pretty penned words and apologies in ink were used to conceal what the writer truly felt.

Do not leave Ramshackle dorm tonight.

Mondays you visit Mr. S's Mystery Shop for the essentials. Tuesdays you sneak into the botanical garden. Wednesdays you spend time with Professor Crewel as he stays late to grade exams in the Alchemy Workshop. Thursdays you hide in the Coliseum as Coach Vargas rearranges equipment. Fridays you slip into the back of the library where Professor Trein is reading. Weekends you're either with Headmaster Crowley in the Hall of Mirrors or guarded in Ramshackle.

They know you leave Ramshackle at midnight. I just want to warn you. No one is supposed to be around at midnight. It should have remained a short moment away from the confines of Ramshackle, but, the same people you've been avoiding have heard about your nightly escapades.

I know I'm one of those people you're avoiding. Know that I'm not upset at you. I don't fault you for it. You've known my true nature for a while now, but you could realize that even I'm not twisted enough to stalk you and get your schedule all on my own. All that above? Information I heard. I don't approve of tracking you, not when you deserve to have peace and quiet if you want it. But I don't mind influencing a classmate or two with magic to hear what's going on inside each dorm when they're threatening your brief moments of peace. There's the obvious happenings, and the not so obvious ones.

That being said, you do know that I am willing to do what it takes to protect your space and to advance my standing above the rest. That's something I don't bother to hide around you. So, I'll tell you the happenings. The obvious that others have probably yapped about already... Malleus and his cohorts have taken up the task of guarding Ramshackle, so they know about your trips. Ignihyde is mostly quiet, but Ortho has been talking to Kalim a lot about "fun" plans to involve you in. Pomefiore maintaining their refined image to impress you when I doubt that it's all real.

The Leech twins have been particularly prone to violence recently, and Azul lacks his usual confidence although he tries to hide it. In Savanaclaw there's been multiple brawls because of the tension but Leona seems to be sleeping in more than before. Heartslabyul is as chaotic as ever, but it seems like they feel the most responsible for what happened. I've seen those two first years, Ace and Deuce, try to visit Ramshackle all the time but never get past the gate.

That's not all, but that's all I'll say about that for now.

I'm not trying to bother you, I can promise you that. I managed to put a stop to about ten plans Kalim was ready to set in motion just this week to grab your attention.

You realize what this is by now. I know you do. A warning from me, an attempt to redeem myself. Although "redeem" doesn't seem like a suitable word, because I don't really believe true redemption is possible. Not with what I allowed to happen to you. But I only care about myself, and you. No one else. So I don't care if their plans fail. In fact, I'm glad to tell you this, just so they won't see you.

Don't let them see you. They don't deserve it. None of us do. My advice to you: avoid your usual destinations for about a week or two. After a while, they'll start looking elsewhere. Give me a few more days, I'll start planting false rumors soon to throw them off. Like how you were spotted in the woods behind campus or the sports field. That will get them off your back for a while. If you plan to go to the cafeteria eventually for a meal, take the long way through the back. Hardly anyone goes that way. If you want a home cooked meal, let me know. I'll send something your way if you just ask.

One last warning. You're going to get a letter around the same time you'll get this one you're currently reading. It's an invitation from Kalim. Don't go. He's planning a surprise party with the exact people you're avoiding.

Anything you tell Kalim will eventually be told to others, you should know that. Anything you say to me will be kept a secret I will closely guard. If you want more information or greater details, something to be delivered since I imagine you'll be in Ramshackle for a while, or just desire new company for once... I'm here. Even if you don't want me, I'm here. With just one response from you, I'll tell you whatever you want to know. Tell me whatever you wish, and I'll see to it just to be back in your grace.

A chill traveled up your spine as you processed the message you just read. The window was right beside you, so you reached up to pull the string of the blinds, blocking out the sights in fear of someone watching through those very windows.

"Grim, we're going to have to take a rain check on our trip to the cafeteria tonight." Once you dropped the letter, you went window to window, closing and locking each one, pulling down the blinds and readjusting the curtains.

"Aww..." The feline watched in confusion as you moved around to check the locked front and back doors. Normally he would've immediately whined and complained about the canceled trip to the place with food, but he sensed your reemerging paranoia. Following you, his tail swished behind him as he walked on all fours. "What's with you? Was it something in that letter?"

Pulling on the door handle, you were only satisfied when it didn't budge. "Yes."

When you handed him the letter to read, his little paws grasped onto it and he handed you a second open letter that was unfamiliar. Sniffing the jasmine scented letter, Grim pulled away and plopped down with it. "I was reading that other one while you were distracted. It sounds fun and it would be worth going if they weren't crazy obsessed, you know."

Fun?

When you took a closer look at the letter Grim handed you, it was evidence that Jamil had told the truth in this instance.

Even from where you stood, you could make out the shimmer of the torn envelope forgotten in the living room floor feet away from where you stood. Grim has throughly torn through it, the exterior was white with a corner accidentally stained by black ink. The interior of the envelope shined like gold. Was it real gold? Probably not, but at this rate, anything was possible.

The letter was clearly perfumed, and each word was written far more casually than in other letters you had already read. Each word was written in clear black ink, and there seemed to be a doodle marking the end of every paragraph. There was a heart, a smiley face, and a star, just to name a few. Just by a glance, it didn't carry the same heavy content like the others did. There was only one person you could think of who would have written this.

That's right. Tomorrow, at the Scarabia dorm, I'll be hosting a party just for you! There's gonna be every type of food you can think of, the best songs to dance to, and invitations have already been sent out. It's gonna be the biggest party this place has ever seen! I even imported some gifts from off campus to give you later. I'm sure you're probably wondering why throw a party after everything that happened, huh?

Well, I had two reasons. One, I wanted to use it as an apology. I'm sorry. I really really mean it. I know I keep saying it with every gift and letter I've sent you. I don't even have a clue if you've read the ones I sent before. I hope you've seen them. Did you at least like the bracelet I sent last time? It's real gold from my homeland!

The second reason was because I just really want to see you. Even if you just come by for a minute, just one dance or have one plate of food, that would be enough. It would make me happy. I figured that it would be a way to cheer everyone up, not just you and me. Right now, I think everyone could use a bit of festivity to lift their spirits. Especially you, and honestly, me too. Ever since you shut yourself in Ramshackle, everyone's been worried sick.

I hope you're doing better now! Admittedly, I still feel guilty about what happened. Whenever I think too much about it, I get scared when I imagine what you went through and what could've happened. I wish I could turn back time to when you walked into Scarabia and pretended to be someone else. My heart recognized you before my brain did, and I was too happy with you to even realize that the joy I felt in that moment was so familiar. It was familiar because I was with you, and I'm only that happy when I'm hanging out with you! I think about that day a lot, you know. But you didn't tell me it was you for a reason.

You were scared, weren't you? That's why you kept looking around so much back then. At first, I thought it was because you were curious of the dorm, but I was wrong. You weren't scared of me, were you? I hope not. You know I would never ever hurt you, right? Even when you were known as the "imposter," I didn't want to cause you any pain at all. I just wanted to ask: why? Why was this happening? Why had they caused Yuu to break down? Why were they doing it and causing us so much pain?

Aaand here are some headcanons I have regarding the OB boys’ family members or backgrounds:

Mrs. Rosehearts perpetuates generational trauma; she is hard on Riddle, her mother was hard on her, and so was her mother’s mother, and so was her mother’s mother’s mother…

Mrs. Rosehearts is 100% aware that her marriage is in the toilet, but she does not even consider a divorce, as it would be the same to her as admitting that she is wrong (/chose the wrong man).

Mr. Rosehearts is a very timid man who cannot speak up for himself or for Riddle. He purposefully takes long shifts at the hospital/clinic or overseas work conferences in order to avoid confrontation.

Leona considers Kifaji (annoying as he is) to be the closest thing he has to a real parent or guardian, as his own father was often busy with royal duties or bedridden to spend time with him. He would never EVER say this to Kifaji’s face though, he has too much pride on the line for that.

Kifaji would scold the other servants for speaking ill of “just a child”, but he’s only one man and cannot control an entire palace (or country’s) worth of rumors. He’d also try to comfort Leona in his own ways, like taking the time to play chess with him when no one else would or trying to offer advice and praise.

Leona and Falena used to be close (Falena was first in line to hold his newborn baby brother), but as they grew up, they gradually became estranged. Falena desperately wishes to reconnect, but Leona has zero interest in it.

Mrs. Ashengrotto fake cries and pouts when Azul turns down the smorgasbord of dishes she prepares for him whenever he comes home.

A lot of people believe that Mrs. Ashengrotto got together with her divorce lawyer, but it’s never actually explicitly stated or implied that this is the case. She just MET her now husband while she was going through the divorce—but hey, nothing is stopping me from headcanoning that her new husband was her divorce attorney because that’s too silly for me not to.

Najma used to have a crush on Kalim when they were kids and this absolutely mortified Jamil. (“This isn’t a fairy tale! You can’t just marry the first rich guy you see and live happily ever after!”) Thankfully, she’s out of that phase now but occasionally Najma WILL intentionally say something sus (like mentioning that his visiting classmates are cute) while Jamil is around just to annoy him.

As a kid, Jamil used to try warming eggs with his hands in hopes it would hatch into a baby parrot. Then he actually SAW an image of a baby parrot and called it pathetic (and wanted one more than ever).

Vil has actually bumped into his biological mother once, but since he does not know her identity, he did not recognize her as his mother and continued walking by. Missed connections 💀

When Vil still lived in Jack’s neighborhood, they’d play together, since Jack was one of the few kids who didn’t see him as the villains he played on TV.

Mrs. Shroud was the one that romantically pursued Mr. Shroud. He was apprehensive about dating (due to worrying that his curse would only burden her and any future children they have), but Mrs. Shroud took it surprisingly well and remained loyal to him. To this very day, he wonders what did he do to deserve a woman like her.

Idia used to want a dog, until one of the S.T.Y.X. employees brought in three of theirs to work and they all rushed at Idia, tackled him, and slobbered all over his face. Since then, he’s been more of a cat person.

Malleus often finds himself wondering or daydreaming about what kinds of people his parents were. This happens a lot when he’s wandering ruins; he imagines the buildings in their glory days and the types of people that lived and did business there.

He sometimes tells the gargoyles about his parents as if he actually knew them at all. It’s strangely therapeutic for him, though Malleus couldn’t articulate why that is if you asked him to.

I just finished the new chapter drop on EN and may I ask why Idia freaks out about Ortho (robot) calling him by name?

Doesn't everybody except Malleus call him Idia? When Ortho (robot) shows up in the dream world he even has this line "And why are you calling me Idia...?"

He doesn't know who Ortho (robot) is, right? So why WOULDN'T he be called Idia? Or am I missing something?

This is just a theory, but I think maybe what has happened is this! ↓

We know from Yana's interview that the story is complete and that she is not the only one who knows what is going on:

"The full main plot that I was to share with Disney seemed linear and uninteresting, so I submitted character details and sub-plots at the same time." - Toboso Yana (2023 Apple Store Interview)

But it is possible that Aniplex USA are not in the know 👀

The English-language translators can only work with what they have, and it's possible they haven't been told what points are going to be recurring, etc., so changes that they make to the localization that would be innocuous in any other situation are turning out to be important later on--and we have seen this before, also with Idia!

Idia has a line of "Leave it to your big bro (nii-chan)," which is extremely important.

We see that he used to say it to human-Ortho when they were children, and it uses the nii-chan variation of "big brother," not robot-Ortho's "nii-san"!

Every time Idia says it, he is invoking human-ortho.

But it seems Aniplex USA might not have known this about the character until the same time as the rest of us: when they got to Book 6.

As a result there are earlier instances (Book 5 and Ortho's ceremonial robes vignette) where Idia says his oft-repeated line and it was either rewritten or just removed entirely from EN.

And this is possibly what has happened with Ortho's "nii-san"!

While robot-Ortho has been programmed to refer to Idia as "nii-san" (and chooses to continue doing so for himself after Book 6), human-Ortho would use "nii-chan," in what seems like a throwaway character detail that is actually so important it was practically a plot point in Book 6.

That is what confuses Idia in Book 7! A humanoid he doesn't know has appeared calling him "nii-san," which no one has ever called him before.

But Aniplex USA possibly didn't know how important this was going to be! Ortho was localized to say "Idia" every time he says "nii-san," so that is what this scene became: Idia wondering why someone is doing what everyone does (call him "Idia"), possibly making it seem odd that it bothers him.

And unfortunately for the poor translators this just kept repeating in this chapter!

Originally Idia is confused by the three different entities all calling him "brother," but on EN he is just wondering why he is being called his name (which EN itself established as the status quo).

And that is why it seems that Idia is confused by someone referring to him in the same way that most all the characters do ^^

It is possible that the translators don't know where the story is going and are just doing the best with what they have, ending up in curious situations as new content is released that compromises changes they have made, catching them by surprise!

And we have seen this happen before, with the word "imagination:"

In a line that was retained on EN Ortho explains to Malleus himself, “Magic is powered by imagination, so you can’t manifest or defend against what you don’t know."

Silver suggests this about Malleus as well when wondering why it is that Malleus cannot interfere in Lilia’s dream, and connecting it to how Lilia’s dream is from before Malleus was born: “The source of magic is imagination. What if Malleus has trouble controlling things he doesn’t know about and can’t imagine…?”

The concept of imagination powering magic is a significant plot point throughout all of Book 7, not only due to it being one of Malleus’ rare weaknesses but because it is the basis for the construction of the dreamscapes that trap the rest of the cast.

Idia repeatedly comments on how the strength or weakness of a person’s imagination directly influences the depth of their worlds and the likelihood of awakening them, and in the original game it is a concept that was established as early as Book 1.

And this has just happened again with the newest chapter release on JP.

In Trey’s dorm vignette he originally explains that when Riddle’s mother discovered him at her house, she lectured Trey’s entire family for five hours, in a scene that was faithfully recreated in the Heartslabyul manga. This history with Riddle was changed on EN to Trey getting lectured by his own family, instead.

Unfortunately for EN, this experience between Trey, his family and Riddle’s mother was just confirmed in the main story.

He explains it happened when he and Chenya were 9 or 10 years old, with Cater providing the details that his mother scolded Trey’s family for five hours, as Cater was the person Trey was talking to in his vignette and he has already heard the story.

It will be interesting to see if EN attempts to change the characters’ backgrounds again to match the changes made to Trey’s vignette, or if they will be glossing over their own changes to stay accurate to the actual story.

-ALSO, If you are the one to bring up kids and marriage, especially if you start describing it in detail (Like your dream wedding, or what your kids could look like) he'd grow very flustered, very quickly

There has to be some kind of mystique about you being sick and vulnerable. Being so helpless against whatever they could do to you, dependent on them for aid and, should you try to resist, they can make your sickness worse so that they can have more aforementioned.

To add, Munchausen by proxy might be a common occurrence in the yandereverse, though the disorder is warped to have the attention of the people they make ill, their darlings. It's surprisingly common, with such a wide variety of potions and over-the counter medications there are for weakening a darling, it’s very easy for some yanderes to attain the medicine and magic necessary to do so, like from pharmacies or being taught how to make them in schools.

With that being said, Trey is definitely one of them. (he’s kind of already done it before) Going on the current canon I’ve written, he’s already been using magic to cause you to have constant fainting spells and fatigue requires you to get help if it continues as much as it does, (It’ll get worse), Once you’re in his grasp, you won’t have a choice but to accept whatever he’s giving you and all it takes to start it is you trusting him enough to not think twice of him putting something into whatever you eat.

Vil is definitely another, with his UM and potion prowess, he’s able to make you debilitatingly ill without you even having to consume whatever he gives you. It also gives him the ability to help you become more ‘perfect’ under the guise of making you better, (There's also something beautiful about you being ‘pallid’ from sickness) I think he might not just do it for the reason of simply being obsessed with you. You being ill keeps you from interacting with his crazy fanbase, so the longer you’re ‘ill’ the safer you are from the public eye.

If Book 4 taught me anything, it’s that Jamil is very good at manipulating and sickness makes that easier. He’ll use his own knowledge on poison tasting to hide milder poisons into what you might eat or drink, and after that he can enjoy the effects of you being dependent. Best of all, in his case at least, should you attempt to fight/rebel against him (probably saying you can take care of yourself) he’ll give you what you ask for while making your ailment more debilitating. What better way to make you dependent and helpless than by tricking you into needing his aid, and turning you against yourself by tricking you into thinking that you are the one ‘in the wrong’.

Regarding Epel’s family, or families in general poisoning you, (originally a throw away line, but I can make it work) while the guys will probably need to earn your trust, you’re more comfortable around their families. Bad move, stupid even. But watching the sons deal with you being difficult is hard to watch.

For Epel’s meemaw, Marja probably used the old ‘spiked’ apple cider trick to marry his Peepaw, so of course she’s gonna help out where she can. And a warm cup of cider after being out in the freezing cold is usually a welcome and very innocuous way to trick someone into consuming something that will make them suddenly too sick to travel. Plus, her age and demeanour helps, making her seem like a caring old lady just worried for a cold houseguest (that just happens to be her grandson’s one true love) nothing for you to be suspicious about.

— You are something between his protector, and, basically, a... Tutor? Governess? It is hard to tell, but his mother insisted on keeping him safe and controlled;

— You tried to do that, by the way. But it killed you to see him struggling, being stripped away from a proper childhood;

— From the other side, there wasn't much you could do. If his mother noticed some strangeness, she would find him a new guard, and you wasn't sure that they will be as kind as you;

— You secretly left him some chocolate and other tokens, writing him about how proud you are. He figured out that it was you, of course, but both of you never discussed it;

— You follow him to the NRC, and that is where you could finally act freely around him. Though, you still follow a strict rules—knowing how much Riddle values them—you still try to prove him that life is much more than that.

”Lady Y/n, I hope you understand that I could get you fired,” Riddle says, voice coming so small that it is hardly threatening. ”You are crossing lines.”

You smile, lowering your head instinctively, as you kneel in front of him.

”Of course.”

”You are disobedient,” he continues, his bottom lip trembling. ”It is against rules, and you know that. You should be punished according to them.”

”I understand. That will be done,” your eyes are meeting his. ”But for now, my majesty... Will you blow your candles?”

Riddle stares at the little cake that you made yourself, quietly and secretively, while he studied throughout the day, and lets out a very quiet sob. His eyes are watery, when he nods.

”And, please, don't forget about your wish.”

He nods again, still not trusting his voice. When he finishes, you are clapping at him proudly, rushing to serve him a cake.

I can have everything I want, but all I would ask, it is for you to stay by my side, Lady Y/n.

He never punishes you for that, in the end.

— A sworn protector? Oh, please, he thinks you are his friend from the very beginning. And your attempts to explain to him that you are here for completely another thing, fail;

— You are really fond of him, but you feel like allowing him to see you as a friend is a direct threat to his safety, and therefore, you always deny him and his attempts to become friends;

— Kalim is really reckless, and sometimes naive. It gives you a heart attack all the time, and you can't help but be clued to him, just in case if anything happens;

— Kalim doesn't really take you seriously, though? Yes, he knows you are powerful, and you can fight and kill, but, eh, what else? You are sweet, and you are his friend anyway;

— Still, it hurts him when you so actively refuse to be called as one, insisting that you are a mere guard. Not because of himself. He just thinks it is sad that you consider yourself to be just a tool under the royal family.

Neither of you speak, and Kalim seems to be not in the spirit. Which is rare and disturbing, but you assume it is something related to Jamil.

”...Yes, Y/n,” he answers immediately.

Sometimes, you don't speak for days, mere being his shadow, nodding and shrugging if questions asked, trusting Kalim to understand. That is why your voice is always a music to his ears, a very awaited sound.

”Had something happened between you and Jamil, my prince?”

He stops, and you stop as well. Your brows furrowing, waiting for the answer.

”Why would you care, Y/n?” He wonders suddenly. ”Jamil is clearly not a threat to my well-being. If anything, he keeps me alive simply by cooking.”

You know that as well. Yet, you can't help but worry about his state.

”Because...” Your voice trails off, as you can't say a true reason behind your question. ”No, you are right, of course.”

Kalim ignores your last sentence, before finally turning to face you. His expression is thoughtful, with a slight curiousity on the bottom of his eyes.

”Could it be... That you care about me as a friend?”

You gulp, and he notices that. But you can't deny it. Lying to him wasn't something you could do, anyway.

His face brightens.

— His grandmother chose the fairest, the strongest fae to the role of his sworn protector, of course. She loves him, she wants to make sure he is safe, all the time;

— Malleus was a quite likeable person, and you grow fond of him in an instant, promising yourself to keep him safe all the time;

— But who would've thought that it is not murder attempts that you will ought to protect him, but evil words of his peers?;

— Watching him being lonely, mistreated and misunderstood made you sick. More than anything in the world, you want Malleus to be happy and fit in the society, but it is a hard task, even for you;

— Unlike Kalim, he doesn't call you friend, but he really wants too. He is too shy, and fears that he mistook your responsibility as a guardian as kindness.

”I am fae, lady Y/n,” he says. ”Just as you, I am quite immortal and very hard to hurt. You shouldn't be worried about little scratches.”

You are aware that Malleus will not die from a single cut. Yet, you are genuinely concerned about his state in every possible way, starting with physical well-being, and finishing with mental one.

”Perhaps,” you agree reluctantly. ”But, my prince, I care about you deeply. Not just as your sworn protector, but as a... Ah, how Lilia says that? A part of the family, right. You are a part of my family, my prince. It is only natural for me to— Oh! My prince!”

You can't even finish your sentence as the stone cracks in two pieces from careless, too nervous, hit from Malleus. You run to him, so worried, instantly taking his bleeding hand in your own, that can't notice the redness of his cheeks.

”I told you to be careful!” You hiss, completely forgetting about subordination. “Ugh...”

Yet, he manages to give you a little smile.

hihi! I would like to know how you see/feel about the dynamic of the Tweels and Azul, if you don't mind sharing of course!

Sorry, this one took me a minute, I was trying to figure out the best way to explain my feelings about their relationship but... I realized that while I was unable to give a name to KaliJami but was able to explain the relationship, here I am unable to even explain the Octatrio's relationship.

They're best friends who would do anything for each other without needing any explanation, but they also would sell each other for a corn chip. The Tweels are Azul's first friends and also his most consistent bullies. They keep saying they're not friends but nobody around them believes it.

And, you know, I actually like how their vibe is "as long as we're having fun, we're staying together". Relationships don't have to last forever to be cherished. It's perfectly fine to stop frequenting who was once a dear friend if the relationship ends up not being enjoyable anymore. People change and so do their relationships, and that's a healthy mindset to cling to the fun and not force yourself into something that doesn't fit you anymore (in my opinion, at least.)

Though I have a feeling that, for the Tweels, it might come from a shaky family situation. Like Cater who can't will himself to have friends because he keeps moving, so he can't imagine a long lasting relationship whatsoever, I think the Tweels who might come from a family that has some kind of criminal background might approach their relationships in a "that won't last, but at least we'll have fun while it does". They're kinda the opposite of Cater in that regard. All of them are ready for their relationships to stop at any moment, but Cater has a darker view of it and refuses to open up while the Tweels are more nonchalant and try to get the most out of their relationships. The difference might come from the Tweels having each other anyway while Cater has a strained relationship with even his sisters.

Going on a tangent here: a thing I've come to realize is that Azul shows his love the same way the Tweels do. Lemme explain.

The one person we have seen Azul interested in is Jamil. He's shown it in forever bothering him and inviting him to join him and completely disregarding any complaint or refusal Jamil throws his way.

Feels familiar? That's how Floyd approaches Riddle too. That's also how the Tweels approached Azul at first. We don't have that much backstory but we do have an example of Azul trying to drive them away, and them not listening at all and continuing to come bother him until they have carved a place at his side.

I'm personally of the opinion that Azul learned his love language from the Tweels, because it was the only example of (lasting) friendship that he's ever had.

There's also the whole debt thing to take into account. Azul needs to feel unindebted, he cannot stand owing things to others. That's just how it is. The Tweels though would totally do whatever they need to have whatever they want, no matter the debts. But they do play by Azul's rule. Sometimes they even use it against Azul to gain favors from him. Though most of the time it feels like they're indulging him by asking favors when they just wanted to help him. It's a fine line, a fine balance, just like everything else.

The OctaTrio is just always on the cusp of being perfectly in sync with each other, using each other's strength and weaknesses to the best so they could all get what they want, while also being perfectly terrible to each other, literally just using each other for their own gain. It's a very interesting relationship and maybe one of the most balanced and precise out of every other relationships. They're just... in sync.

And contrary to KaliJami, those three can very well work on their own without needing each other. They constantly do their own things, decide to ditch the others because they have something better to do elsewhere, etc.

All three of them say they are into this relationship purely out of personal gain. And, yeah, I'm sure they're getting a lot out of it and they even get to be selfish while still working well together. Buuuuut...

I mean, come on, the Tweels keep coming to Azul's rescue. They were super worried when the anemones disappeared and discovered Azul overblotted. Boys aren't hiding their feelings as well as they think. And Azul isn't any better.

You know what, I think I finally figured it out. I finally know what to call their relationship, despite my introductory statement.

They're siblings.

Azul has pretty much been adopted by the Tweels. Being selfish morons ready to throw each other under a bus while also going on a rampage as soon as a bully decides to target one of yours is 100% sibling-coded. And I'd know it, I almost got into a fistfight because my lil bro got punched once. And I'm usually ready to punch him myself.

The OctaTrio are siblings who know their relationship might not last forever, but who have nonetheless decided to make the most out of it.

“So… you and Jade or you n’ Azul?” You turn around, blinking blearily at him. His gaze remains fixed on his screen. Maybe you misheard him. “Pardon?” Floyd giggles. “ Come on , I see the way you look at them. The way you act around them. It’s so lovey-dovey, it makes me cringe.”

Continuing from the last point: Azul's got such low self esteem that he doesn't believe he's attractive, nor does he believe that the twins would stick around him if he was anything other than his best.

(The twins do say this. Floyd mentions how if it's not fun, they'd dump Azul and go for the housewarden position, but when Azul overblotted, they didn't abandon him (as MC points out). They stayed and fought to bring him back. They care for eachother in their own way, even if they don't want to call eachother friends.)

By this point, Jade already knows he's going to use his unique magic to pry information out of Kalim. Azul's apprehension is because he's saying 'Really? Are you sure you want them to be there while you use your UM?'

The 'it' Jade refers to is Azul's perception of himself/ weight. Also his willingness to let others help him. The small sparks of romantic interest between him and the prefect is what allows him to give just a bit (as opposed to Jade, who he is close with but it's complicated).

Another, brief comment about Jade's UM is that I changed it's ability from only being able to be used once per person > looses effectiveness the more he uses it on a person until it becomes unable to be used at all. Not story important I just decided to change it for funsies. Also Floyd's UM is wayyy too overpowered for Jade's not to match. Like wdym you can direct any magic away??? That's so powerful. Yes I know Floyd is very wishy washy generally but when it matters, he steps up.

In the game, Kalim refuses to tell Jade the name of the student who's controlling him. In my fic, Jade uses this to his advantage to force Kalim to reveal that it's Jamil (by refusing to say he wasn't the one responsible, he's basically confirming that it is Jamil).

Jamil knows about Jade's UM, hence his apprehension about him using it on Kalim.

Aroace floyd my beloved. As someone who's ace (maybe? probably? Idk i'm not in a relationship rn and it's kinda been a huge question mark for two years) i wanted to portray a relationship in a non 'traditional' romantic sense (that is still, kinda, hopefully romantic and will become more in the future).

And that's it for the second part. It has a few moments I like but ultimately don't think it's my favorite. Now for the drama.

The Final Score - July 2024 to December 2024

In the middle of this, I started an internship at a dream company. I think you can tell by how long the time is between the chapters lol. I struggled a lot with finishing the last chapter tbh, I don't know why. I was so close to the finish line it was like my brain gave up.

But I persevered and finished, thankfully.

For anyone that's played Honkai Star Rail, this part was inspired by Rondo Across Countless Kalpas.

Not much to comment on this chapter to be honest. This part of Jamil using Azul to attack the MC was something I thought of early on, but reflecting on it, it might be a little too ooc. Oh well.

This entire argument with Azul was really tricky for me to write. I struggled with it for a long time before finding something that I liked. Its a build up from the start of the series.

Azul feels bad that he frightened the MC but it's a necessary evil in his mind. Something he has to do. Even though he shrugs and says 'well it had to be done' MC can still be upset with that.

Azul thinks caring for others is weak. He mocks ariel in his birthday vignette about how love made her act. He's started to care for the MC and that frightens him. So obviously, he doesn't want to be honest with how he's feeling and be upfront. So he tries to play it off, but when that pisses off the MC more he folds and gives into how he really feels.

It was a hard balance trying to make it obvious to the readers how he may be feeling without making it too much. I'm satisfied with what I finally came up with.

without spoiling anything, this takes inspiration from something that happens in book 7, LOL.

In the actual game, the twins change into their eel forms in a flash of light but I'm like...where do the clothes go...lol. A magic pocket dimension maybe...? lol

I wrote this scene when the twins eel cards came out on the JP server. It definitely inspired this scene. Love the eels.

This is Jade's last major important scene. They're ahead of Azul in the fact that he knows what he wants and MC is on better terms with him than Azul. and Jade's not talking about romance necessarily, just wanting to spend more time with MC. Like how all good natured people who might have a romantic interest in each other act (minus the drama those two have been in during book 3). He's definitely leaning more towards flirty in their interactions.

Creative liberties taken: These vision things MC sees in the game are also seen by MC in the story, except they pass out while doing so. They share thoughts/ memories with the overblotter.

...Another difference I added. MC doesn't forgive Jamil as easily in the game (same with the octotrio) it'll take time before they come around to them.

Also also,

Tried to do my best to make it make sense why the dorm would be so willing to just party with Jamil after everything he's done. I feel like the games have a habit of just being like 'oop well that's that, and it all worked out in the end'! and I don't think it's bad It's just not for me. Which is why I wanted to re-write the book, lol.

This was one of the scenes I had in my head from the beginning. I knew I wanted this to happen. It's an important moment because Azul says 'the deal is over' but also they can move on past this points as somewhat equals and not having to really worry about being 'even'.

It's a step! And one that's necessary for them to grow closer into whatever their relationship is.

Last thing:

I had this also in mind from the start. I love Ace Deuce Yuu trio and wanted to make it clear that they care about eachother a lot.

And with that... I think that's it. I wrote this at a point in my life where everything suddenly drastically changed. I thought I was going to be in a completely different position, I knew what I was going to do and my life was on a path ahead of me, and then the floor gave out from under me and said actually it's time for something completely different. I look back on some things and wish I had done it differently, but getting over my perfectionism and just allowing myself to create is something I'm trying to overcome. I've been much happier as a creative by just allowing myself to do whatever without worrying about it being perfect.

Plot: The Ramshackle prefect gets itchy and turns into a lovely colour of red whenever they stand in the sun for too long

A/N: Basically, reader is sensitive to sunlight (JUST LIKE ME FRR)

TREY CLOVER:

-> The first and third years were having a joined flying lesson one day, so the prefect and Trey were just casually conversing as they were doing their stretches.

-> The sun was blazing overhead since there was a major heat wave going throughout the island, so everyone was getting tired and suffering from mild heatstroke every day

-> After a while, Trey had noticed that the prefect's cheeks and forearms had begun to tint a light redish colour.

-> It's when the itchiness and pain began to come in that Trey began to worry.

-> Hurriedly, Trey goes to Coach Vargas and asks for permission to take a break with the prefect. Coach agrees, and Trey leads them underneath the trees to try and ease up on their discoloration.

-> When the vice dorm leader asks for an explanation, all the prefect says is that they are sensitive to the sun had get extremely itchy when they stand in the sun for too long.

-> All Trey does is sigh and stay by their side until the end of the lesson, to which he then buys them a bottle of water to keep them hydrated :)

KALIM AL-ASIM:

-> The Ramshackle prefect was staying over at Scarabia for dinner since Kalim was celebrating for passing one of his history tests.

-> It was the middle of summer, and Kalim decided that he wanted to march to the oasis in celebration and then swim and have a sort of 'pool' party in the oasis.

-> It was actually Jamil who noticed that the prefect was acting odd. They were scratching at their scalp and forearms, trying to relieve the intense pain that was trickling up in their body.

-> Kalim quickly jumps down from the elephant he was riding and quickly sprints to where the prefect was busy scratching away at their skin.

-> Kalim summons his unique magic and dumps the water on them, thinking that that would help relieve them

-> It did

-> Kalim would then on, periodically dump water on the prefect as they continued to march to the oasis.

VIL SHOENHEIT:

-> There was a spelldrive match against RSA that Vil watched and supported since Epel was playing on NRC's team.

-> The prefect tagged along since Epel was their friend and coincidentally was seated next to Vil.

-> After some simple greetings and passing along pleasantries, the two sat in silence as they watched Epel playing in the match.

-> A half an hour into the match, Vil noticed the prefect scratching at their legs and arms, leaving small pale lines in their skin from how blunt their nails are.

-> The model gasped internally at the sight and looked at the prefect with a concerned look on his face.

-> "Did you apply any sunscreen before you got here, potato?" He questions, perfectly plucked eyebrow raising in suspicion.

-> When the prefect nodded and explained that the itchiness happens even if they put on multitudes of sunscreen, they still itch and burn up.

-> Vil tuts and hands them his chilled water bottle to help ease up on the heat they were feeling.

-> A couple of days later, a salve of some sort of cream was left on the prefect's doorstep with a note saying that it would help their skin.

Naga!Jamil x Reader x Roc!Kalim

Omg hiiii, its been a while everyone since i wrote something but here's the first part to something that's been pecking my brain for a while! Sorry its not the update for Vil's Moving Castle, i think im going to scrap it and rewrite it when I have more time.

This is only the FIRST part! I plan on writing a second part whenever i have free time again. Ive been picking away at this for a few weeks now. Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Well. This isn't how you imagined you'd die. Being cornered by a larger snake-like creature to where there was no escape in sight unless you'd like to jump straight into his fangs…

Let's start this over again, how did you even get in this situation again?

The weather was warm as you entered the freezing cold building. A weird zoo-like research laboratory where you were under contract to work for free because of how gracious your professor was… Ass… You sighed slightly as you tugged on the free lab coat that your professor offered to you that had holes in every pocket, and was that… Dried stains of spaghetti sauce? Ugh. Shaking your head slightly as you made your way to the cafeteria and quietly sat down near the back, waiting to see if this is something you'd have to leave immediately and never return back to, free or not. Minutes passed as others started to file into the room, chitter chatter filling up the room only for a certain crack of a whip to silence the audience within seconds.

“Welcome pups, to your first hybrid meeting of how to be a caretaker!” A man walked out, two dalmatians hounding at each side of him as two others seemed to wheel in cages covered with curtains.

“For those who don't know what you signed up for, which is absolutely idiotic if you didn't read the full internship form, this is a place where we find the extraordinary creatures, house them, and research them before safely releasing them back from whence they came!” The man had a puffy black and white coat, fur lined it seemed from your assumptions as it was just as beautiful as his personality. Rough.

“For those who do not know me! I am your new Professor, your new internship coworker. But more like your boss. If I find out one of you pups messed up something with what is mine, you will be expelled immediately.” Another crack of the whip caused some to flinch at the sound as he continued to ramble on. Yet, your gaze trailed off of him to the cages where you could've sworn you heard something rattling… Like a rattle maybe? Lowering your head just slightly in hopes of catching a small peek, you could only feel yourself tense up in your seat when you saw a glow of slitted eyes shine back at you for just a second. As for what was underneath the curtain, you couldn't figure out just yet. 

Though, snapping your gaze back to your new professor, he continued to speak about how all the students will be assigned to areas that, if they are lucky, will like. If not, they are more than happy to drop out, as for volunteering for a section? It will be all yours, if not with some partners will be either voluntold to join. A large shake at the cage on the left caused everyone to jump in their seats as Professor Crewel seemed to snicker at everyones reactions to the rattling cage. 

“This is our Roc, a creature that hunts over the seas, capturing up sailors from their ships and being able to lift up an elephant in its adult years. Though this one is smaller, only for containment reasons, its adult size was a little harder to capture yet, this one seemed to fit into the snare just like a glove.” Crewel states out as he ripped off the curtain of the cage, a large looking hybrid of a man and a bird, with white dazzling feathers and hair seeming to coat its body. Although it was impressively large, it didn't seem all too aggressive towards everyone, seeming all too delighted in seeing the new faces… Unless you were wrong and it was just looking at who was going to be its next snack. A louder hiss could be heard as Crewel stepped closer to the cage holding what was so called a ‘Roc’ only for the man to seem a big smug at the reaction.

“Now, before anyone can start placing bids on who wants to work with our Roc here, you must come to learn that this Roc comes with another. Although, he is always in a sour mood, they seem to be in some sort of a pact of service to each other. While one leaves peacefully and unbothered, this–” Nothing could stop the gasps of students as the curtain was ripped off of the second cage only for a very, very, pissed looking snake like creature to be staring right at Crewel, its tail flicking with its rattle to try and scare off the Professor. 

“--Creature, comes with it. This is a Naga, and as for its design and pattern, they come together in a pair. So! Who is willing to work with our Roc and Naga?” Professor Crewel stated as the naga creature seemed to turn its body towards the crowd and hiss violently, venom spitting out from its large fangs and dripping down the metal bars of its enclosure, causing it to steam just slightly. 

Silence filled the room. So quiet that you swore, you could almost hear a pin drop within the auditorium. 

“No offers? Our Roc seemed very well trained, and always seems excited to have new fresh blood in the enclosure with him. You’ll just have to try your luck in not getting stuck with our Naga here while you are around the Roc.” Crewel hummed out only for his gaze to land upon you. The only one not diverting your gaze from him. While the other students seemed to look upon the walls with such wonder, some already leaving the auditorium and dropping out from the course, and others seemingly looking sick as they looked upon the angry looking Naga with fear. 

“Ah, you. With the (H/C) and stained labcoat.” Fuck you Crewel. Slowly standing up, dread filling your heart as you heard some others around you, whispering thanks for not being chosen to be their handlers.

“I see great promise with you with these two…” Crewel hummed out with a smirk, as he nodded his head. Oh, how wonderful.

A month had passed since that moment in the auditorium, you had teammates until they all dropped out one by one as they learned more and more about the Roc and Naga together. It seemed from what the researchers had learned about them is that when the Roc lay their eggs and have to go hunting across the seas to pickup sailors for their meals, the nagas were left behind to obey and serve the children until their parents came back. Then came the story on how they captured the Roc and Naga here in the building. The Roc children has been learning how to fly, and the Naga had to follow their every movement so that they wouldn't become the next meal for them. Apparently the Roc in captivity fell from the sky right into the trap, and the Naga has been trying to free him when they were found only for both of them to get sedated and brought back to the research facility.

After observing how handlers dealt with them as well, you began to learn their patterns in making sure that you wont die once you step foot into the enclosure… Like today.

“Alright pup, go ahead on in there, and feed them. Remember, don't look the Naga in his eye, and try to stay over foliage so that the Roc doesn't scoop you up where you stand. Put everything we taught you into action.” And with a crude shove and a loud bang. Professor Crewel really was cruel in some ways, you supposed… Shoving you into the enclosure and shutting the door tight. 

Nevertheless. You were now in the warm enclosure. Alone. Minus two pairs of hungry eyes watching your every movement.

You were careful in your step, making sure to stay under the treeline and foliage in hopes of not getting swooped up by the large bird man. As well avoiding any droppings or anything that you might've mistaken as a snake tail. Buckets in each hand as you traversed the area smoothly, making sure to count your steps just in case you had to make a run for the door and memorizing where you were… Just in case…

You could see their food bowl essentially, a large stone carved into a bowl-like structure with a flowing manmade river for them to get fresh water. The only downfall was that the tree that usually hung over the bowl had fallen due to a storm a few days prior… So your only guardrail was missing. And these guys were hungry… 

“Alright.. You can do this… Show no fear and they'll have no reason to hurt you… Have confidence in your steps…” You whispered to yourself as you took a shaky step forward into the light of the day, no longer under the shady canopy protecting you from the Roc. With another step, you were getting closer and closer to the food bowl without any issues. Just as you neared closer and closer, movement in the corner of your eye was caught as you couldn't help but turn around just slightly… Ever so slowly in hopes of not pissing off whatever was there. 

Slitted eyes bore right into your eyes as you could feel the entrancing pull once again. Slowly, the world around you began to grow darker and darker, all you could see were these entrancing eyes, almost as if beckoning you closer with how they memorized you. Taking slow steps forward, a crack of a tree branch sounded way too close to you as this seemed to snap you out of whatever hypnotism the naga was performing on you. Taking a large intake of breath as you averted your eyes away from the snake man, only to throw it up to see a grinning feathery face a little too close to yours.

A hiss is what snapped you out from your trance from looking at the Roc creature. Shit. Without a second to spare, you ducked back under the foliage as you could feel your heartbeat pounding against your chest as your feet thudded against the ground roughly in hopes of retracing your steps. Yet, in your adrenaline flurry rush, you found yourself in a corner against one of the rocky mountains. Turning around to try and find another escape, you were met face to face with a very angry looking reptilian man. The naga, fuck.

Back pinned against the rocky surface, you could feel the forked tongue flicking out against your cheek as you avoided looking in his eyes at all cost, knowing it would cause certain death. 

Well, either way. This isn't how you'd expect how you'd die.

You could feel the hot breath ever looming closer and closer to you. Yep, even with those buckets of food, you know snakes prefer live meals… Meals that still has their blood pumping with adrenaline as they know they are being hunted down. As you felt death looming close to your neck, inching ever closer before a loud thump could be heard overhead as you were suddenly lifted up by two arms… Two feathery arms.

Blinking your eyes open, looking at the height you are being held over. The Roc, having lifted you up into his arms as he had landed on the mountain. The naga, seeming pissed as the Roc has just taken his meal, began to hiss loudly which… Sllliiggttllyy? Sounded like some type of serpent tongue?

Gripping onto the arms of the Roc, he began to chirp quite loudly into your ear as he squeezed you even tighter in his arms, a bright large smile on his face as his ruby eyes were looking down at the brown eyed naga… So his eyes weren't red, maybe that's when he was trying to hypnotize his prey..? This all seemed too much as you could feel yourself losing precious air by how tight the roc was holding you in his feathered arms. In your losing state of consciousness, you could've sworn you could understand them for just a second.

“Kalim! You know better than to snatch prey from me! That was supposed to be OUR meal!”

“But Jammiillll! They were just so cute, I couldn't just let you kill them!! You should've seen how surprised they were to see me up so close!”

“It doesn't matter, Kalim. Drop them before you get seriously hurt. They don't take too kindly to you holding our feeders.” 

As your mind slowly slipped into a state of consciousness, you could've sworn you heard a yell of Professor Crewel as you're lifted up into the air where sleep took you quickly in your state.

Now that Book 7 is over, were there any stand-out moments or specific dream sequences you particularly enjoyed?

General acknowledgement of the passage of time. This occurs with the third years talking about their internships in the beginning of the book and Silver's birthday at the end of the book. I like that Twst is willing to move forward rather than keep the characters static.

Sebek. While the other Diasomnia members had their character development clustered in certain sections of the book, Sebek's character development was very evenly distributed and continued even when we were dream hopping.

Lilia's dream. It was fascinating getting to roam an entirely new country (as opposed to spending like only an event's length of time exploring a hometown). I also like that they spaced out the historical reveals and allowed us to slowly piece the story together for ourselves.

Idia. I didn't like Idia much before book 6 and GloMasq changed my mind. Had an improved opinion of the guy already, but book 7 gave him so many cool lines + he actually contributed SO much in the fight against OB Malleus. I will NEVER shit talk your skills again, Idia unless we're talking social skills-- 😭

The book getting progressively more and more meta. Just really neat framing overall.

The ethical dilemma presented by Malleus's motives. On one hand, he claims he wants everyone to be happy. On the other hand, he's presenting this happiness to them by robbing them of their autonomy. It's a really interesting ethical debate as to whether he is in the "right" or the "wrong" for this; love thinking about it.

Kalim FINALLY punching Jamil. Making good on that promise from all the way in book 4, huh?

Malleus and Silver's HOT MOMS.

NPC!Leona in Jack’s dream. Makes up for the lack of Jack’s character writing in book 2. I felt his emotions really coming through this time.

Silver finally formally taking on Lilia's surname.

Kifaji being the MVP in Leona's dream. Made me reevaluate his relationship irl with Leona as a caretaker and maybe even surrogate parent.

Cater. Did not think he would have such strong big bro energy, but as soon as he joined up with our squad, he was seriously being so smart and useful in dream after dream after dream.

Leona being so sick and fed up with everything. I really felt like the writers were using him as a vessel to convey that they, too, are annoyed that the book is taking so long and they want to hurry things up too.

Ace getting his UM! Plus Yuu and Grim being there to talk him through it.

Phantom!Ortho being SO stinkin' cute. Acting like the "final boss" to test Idia's resolve... wishing him farewell, telling him the world is waiting for him... rising up from Tartarus to cheerily greet Malleus... telling robo!Ortho his new gear is ultra cute... PHANTOM!ORTHO MY BELOVED 🥰
