SFGAFGDHF see they're such a new thing still and I was so hellbent until their divorce arc that they were just close friends and nothing more that I'm still figuring out wtf their deal is.

It's esp hard to build them beyond their basic interaction vibes bc oMalewife is so wildly different and special. And previously our only proper rpMalewife content.

But trMalewife absolutely have some kinda on/off fuckass obsession with each other. Way more so trSneeg towards trPhil than the reverse, but it's anything but one-sided, even if it's a 99/1 split.

All of rpPhil's relationships are healthy, at least at their cores (as of now), but these two you could absolutely joke are toxic yaoi. It's probably something they joke about themselves. It's basically an unspoken bit.

The thing abt trMalewife duo (or any rpMalewife probably, bc this is just how the CCs are) is that their relationship is hugely built on mutual sarcasm, deadpan bits, and dramatized bickering.

There's no genuine bitterness between them, or we'd be seeing Much different tones in their reactions. So while all this drama and deadpan nonsense may look "toxic," they're actually mildly dysfunctional at best. Granted, this is all until we get More content to go off of.

I DO have one solid headcanon though. Their marriage was some Vegas wedding shit. Very spontaneous, possibly drunk when they did it, probably very in their feels about how much they /p love each other. Which is why on our end this divorce is just as unserious and sudden as the concept of them being married to begin with.

Journey!Lorsan and Arena!Lorsan getting magical swapped one day is hilarious to think about.

In Journey: A!Lorsan is just straight vibing, might notice some differences about the dark forest but overall just assumes things have changed while he’s been traveling. Stops by lunadorf to have brunch with Lyca, who’s a little off put but not too concerned. Says hi to Arden. Wanders around a bit more before dinner, probably a bit confused where Ira and Kaz are but just assumes they’re busy doing dusk patroller things. Has a nice chat with Eironn after finding him training and gives his buddy a nice motivational speech since he seems rather down today.

Eventually runs into this random guy with a fucking lightning falcon who may or may not be his husband, both are *wildly* confused. A!Lorsan just assumes the guys blind and has him mixed up with someone else. Technically he does. Bryon realizes this guy has no clue who tf he is, and A!Lorsan acts so different that surely this can’t be his Lorsan. Both continue with their days, brushing off this weird encounter as a strange coincidence.

Re face anatomy critique, I completely understand how awful it feels to work really hard to address a certain aspect of your work and still get negative feedback about it. That said, there’s no way you have put in that amount of work to learn facial anatomy and not vastly improved. At least for me, it helps to look at my old art sometimes and compare it to my current work, because often when I feel like I’m getting nowhere it turns out there is a huge level of improvement I simply haven’t noticed. Even the most well meaning commenters don’t see that progression over time, and so can’t say “wow you’ve really improved” when you absolutely have. There will always be room for improvement and there will be some areas that are harder for you, but don’t underestimate how far you’ve come just because you’re still receiving similar feedback.

That said, I do also think a lot of these comments aren’t neccesarily a reflection of your ability to draw anatomically correct faces. I’ve seen plenty of similar comments on actual photographs of real people, especially women and/or POC, because people have wildly unrealistic expectations of what actual people look like. Even if you draw faces perfectly, you are still going to get comments saying they look weird simply because you are drawing them accurately, so I wouldn’t lend too much credence to those sorts of comments (though this is easier said than done especially if you have struggled with facial anatomy for a while.)

It's a valid and important point you're presenting, so whatever I type after this just know I'm not arguing, just trying to pinpoint my concerns. And thank you for taking time to engage!

So, you are right, sometimes those comments are just reddit rage and some real game promos would get the same treatment. Like, I literally saw it with Alyx in HL:A, I know how it goes. "She looks like a man, I've fixed her face"... That said, sometimes I just get *the vibe* that something went wrong with my drawing and it's not just Reddit. If a negative comment about the face gets ten upvotes AND piece isn't doing great numbers vise I start to get worried. You see, I'm often blind to my mistakes. Maybe something is wrong with me, or my eyes or whatever, but I can miss very obvious fuck ups. When there's an "umm... Wtf is this?" reaction to an art, I can't help but doubt myself.

Regarding progress, it's tricky. My progress is very slow and I used to get comments like "you are not progressing at all, do something different". Sometimes I can see some regress, which isn't uncommon but still unpleasant. Not to start a talent discussion, but I'm not the most naturally gifted person on this Earth. If it's possible to have an artistic learning difficulty I might just have one, which isn't very fortunate with my goals in mind. Hence me being frustrated.

All of that said, thank you for your perspective. I'll try to reflect on it a bit more.

Just finished watching A Matter of Who (1961) and it's so tonally bizarre I could barely get through it. I've never seen two people share a screen with such vastly different vibes in my life: Terry-Thomas, debonair, roughish, and goofy, paired with Alex Nicol, wooden and serious. Some Americans gel really well with a British cast because there is some affection and friction there but Nicol is not suited to the British brand of humor or pathos. He's too direct and empirical in his acting style. T-T and Nicol are basically in two totally different films that just happen to be spliced together.

The casting is just all kinds of wrong all round. However, this film marks Richard Briers's screen debut, which is of great interest to me. He's good but it's not a venue that showcases his talent, especially as he's still growing into his trademarks and nuances. T-T is damn good. Weirdly believable as a "germ detective" and is quite capable of "serious" acting. It's true, I could listen to T-T talk about the transmission of infectious diseases for hours, but his role verged on a documentary or propaganda film from the W.H.O. They had a good thing going with T-T's character and the British nurse (Honor Blackman) in the beginning of the film but they only got a couple of moments together, leaving the rest to the imagination. The rest of the cast seemed to be mostly made up of random British character actors, and total amateur extras who had larger paragraphs of dialogue than Nicol.

The film is interesting conceptually but there should have been another director and producer at the helm to really make a go of it. The tone was way off, swinging wildly between British comedy-drama and American tv show. It was full of some bonkers lines. The script was functional but the dialogue was tenuously linked like a badly written essay. Great chunks of dialogue were punctuated by a few disconnected snappy lines, all very non sequitur.

The film is trippy to watch now in the covid era and at times borderline creepy as actors in hazmats fumigate a plane, T-T is literally wearing a mask in one scene, and later a handkerchief in lieu of a mask.

Too many wtf moments for me. Why is there a chimpanzee? They thought it would be amusing but honestly there is no need for it at all. Shoe-horned in love-triangle? Stupid. Wendy - Wish You Hell

Hmmmmm. I don’t really know what to think. The title track did one thing and then the B-sides all did not do that thing. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. I enjoyed every song, even the slow jam, and actually in hindsight I think it’s wrong to classify it as a slow jam. It was more of … I dunno, a contemporary ballad or something like that? Like … I dunno. But I will say, this album contained things that I did not expect, and I heard things that I haven’t heard before, and that’s always a good thing.

I kinda want to listen to her first mini now to compare. Not tonight, I don’t have the time. But maybe tomorrow I’ll do that. Average score of 7.8, maybe a tad low, but close enough. Good album, definitely recommend.

and rubén sends a quick email to this alec hardison (he/him/mr. but please alec is fine) thanking him profusely and so earnestly, cc'ing wyn the org's executive director. rubén goes home and Do Not Disturb's their work stuff and is ready to start it all over the next day.... but. when they get to the office, they find out wyn has organized an emergency meeting looking... confused and hopeful and so wildly excited. there's a guy next to her dressed smart, but what really stands out with his eyes: they are kind and welcoming but there's a coy twinkle in them like he's got a secret he's itching to share.

and wyn is like. hey so. this is alec hardison and blah blah introduction stuff. (and rubén is like omgggg internally) we spoke last night, and mr hardison's agreed to come on pro bono with his team to assist us and... okay. okay imma be real here for a moment. there's some stuff that's gonna be on the down low here on out and if you don't want part of it, you can take leave for the next week or two we will give you space, but... we know what will happen if shit continues and im not standing for it. i hope you will join me, but you won't be forced. and she turns to please-just-alec who thanks her and turns to the exhausted team and says:

CUANDO SE SENTÍA UN ATRACO | Narcos Mexico’s early days

So a little while back, in our little Narcos fanfic writer’s discord channel, we were all talking about the journey of Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo: from charming, unassuming former Sinaloan State police to the sociopathic, chip-on-his-shoulder, “I’m-a-very-resentful-person,” drug kingpin we love to loathe by the end of his arc. Then that got us all talking about the absolute, pure electric magic of those first 2 episodes of Narcos Mexico. And our fearless leader @ashlingnarcos (quoted above) made the incisive comparison to a heist movie as the explanation for why those two episodes had such a capital V, Vibe.

And they f u c k ing did, dude! That’s exactly what they felt like! Like, the pure, unadulterated joy i felt watching movies like Reservoir Dogs or Ocean’s Eleven, that kind of manic, wtf is going on, danger-with-a-mild-comedic-undertone, scrappy-underdog-takes-on-The-Man energy is what really kicked off the story and although it evolves into something totally different (even by the end of that first season), man was it a fucking effective way to introduce the new story.

And because i haven’t been able to stop thinking about this, how the first 2 episodes really sucked me in so much so that it superseded my love a teensy tiny bit for the original Narcos, i’ve been planning on a new series of gif dumps, showcasing the scenes that really established the world of Narcos Mexico (for those, como yo, who are wildly resistant to change who were skeptical, coming off the OG series) and cultivated so much viewer investment into these brand new characters and this setting. So with these next few posts, I will be taking us all back to: cuando se sentía un atraco, when it felt like a heist.
