So from a logical standpoint, I feel like Charlotte should be added at some point. WritingWithColor FAQ: How do I start writing a character of color?

First, be mindful that no race, culture, or ethnicity makes one inherently predisposed to certain emotions or personalities, despite what stereotypes or TTRPGs may suggest. We are all humans who share the same range of emotions and ways of thinking, even if we have different values.

Understand that there is no single template for a good [race, ethnicity] character. A person’s social, economic, and geographical background influences their life and values just as much as their race, culture, or religion. Consider: a Black American boy who grew up in a California mansion versus a Black American boy who grew up on an Illinois cornfield versus a Black boy who grew up in an apartment one city over. All three will have very different privileges, disadvantages, and outlooks on life.

Summer here or nearly here in the Northern Hemisphere.

If you live in the US you should reach out to your governor and ask them to address extreme heat by building lifesaving cooling centers, stopping utility shutoffs, implementing renewable energy to break the cycle of fossil-fueled disasters.

Every year, in the United States, extreme heat kills more people than hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods combined, claiming around 154 lives each day during heatwaves and hot spells. 

Now you might be thinking "that kind of infrastructure investment sounds great but... how do we pay for it? It's not like the federal government is handing out grants right now." Well that's where Major Polluter Superfund bills come in!

New York and Vermont have already passed them. Several other states including Maryland, California, and Connecticut are currently considering them. Basically they would tax biggest polluters and use that money to pay for the damage done by climate change like rebuilding LA after the wildfires.

If your state is considering a superfund bill, contact your state reps and ask them to support it!

(if it says "sent to executive" on the link it's actually on the governor's desk now, so contact the governor rather than the state rep)

And even if it isn't contact your governor and urge them to address extreme heat like the public health emergency that it is.

You can use this tool but you can also go directly to your state governor's website and submit the contact form or call their office. Or write a postcard if you prefer.

I believe direct submissions are more effective when contacting your government officials so that's what I did, but I used the template for talking point reference.

When Donald Trump deployed more than 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines into Los Angeles earlier this month, he did so without the consent of California Gov. Gavin Newsom or Mayor Karen Bass.

Not only that, but Trump’s justification — that LA is “war zone” under siege by “foreign invaders” — is a preposterous lie. The suspected undocumented immigrants that masked ICE agents are rounding up at Home Depot don’t have weapons of mass destruction, and Californians certainly aren’t greeting Trump’s army as liberators.

As unpopular as the MAGA occupation of LA may be, it appears to be the template Trump plans to inflict upon other blue cities.Last Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed in LA that “we are staying here to liberate this city from the socialist and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into this city.” (Watch below.)

Then, on Sunday, Trump declared war on Democratic cities in blue states that won’t go along with his authoritarian program.

“I want ICE, Border Patrol, and our Great and Patriotic Law Enforcement Officers, to FOCUS on our crime ridden and deadly Inner Cities, and those places where Sanctuary Cities play such a big role,” he wrote.

Not so long ago, Republicans would have condemned the White House’s designs as a gross violation of states’ rights — the long-held conservative insistence that political power should reside with individual states and not the federal government.

Indeed, early last year, the Biden administration was in a standoff with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who’d lawlessly usurped the federal government’s border enforcement authority. Texas strung up razor wire and buoys across a section of the southern border, which left migrants, including children, with lacerations and open wounds. Eventually, a narrow Supreme Court majority allowed the Border Patrol to cut through the wire, but Abbott ignored this ruling, declaring an “invasion” that gave Texas the right to “defend itself.”

Aside from Vermont’s Phil Scott, every Republican governor in the country publicly supported Abbott thumbing his nose at the federal government. This included then-South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, who proclaimed that if “Joe Biden federalizes the National Guard, that would be a direct attack on states' rights.”

Now, as secretary of homeland security, Noem is enabling Trump’s authoritarian overreach. She even reportedly asked Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to order the military to detain and arrest “lawbreakers” (that is, civilian protesters), a direct federal intervention in local law enforcement matters.

This is more than just blatant hypocrisy. Republicans act as if government exists only to advance their own interests, and they dismiss any law or court ruling that hinders their far-right agenda. “States’ rights,” along with any other principle they claim to value under a Democratic president, is just a convenient cudgel.

Quite simply, Republicans don’t think Democrats and the governments they run have any rights they are bound to respect.

As I mentioned in my last post, I would like to be able to hug Gretel if she was available at the Disney Parks like Disneyland and Walt Disney World. That said, I was thinking Hamster and Gretel should be meet and greet characters at some point in the future. I don't know where their greeting spots would be located, but I do know there would be some challenges, at least, with Hamster. He wouldn't be able to sign autographs, but Gretel can. And for promotional reasons, I would have them in their superhero attire. If Phineas, Ferb, and Agent P can be meet and greet characters, so could Hamster and Gretel.

Carroll O'Connor

John Carroll O'Connor (August 2, 1924 – June 21, 2001; aged 76) was an American actor whose television career spanned over four decades. O'Connor found widespread fame as Archie Bunker (for which he won four Emmy Awards), the main character in the CBS television sitcoms All in the Family (1971–1979) and its continuation, Archie Bunker's Place (1979–1983). O'Connor later starred in the NBC/CBS television crime drama In the Heat of the Night (1988–1995), where he played the role of police chief William "Bill" Gillespie. In the late 1990s, he played Gus Stemple, the father of Jamie Buchman (Helen Hunt) on Mad About You. In 1996, O'Connor was ranked number 38 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time. He won five Emmys and one Golden Globe Award.

Carroll was born in Manhattan and raised in Forest Hills, a borough of Queens, New York. After graduating from high school in 1942, O'Connor joined the Merchant Marines and worked on ships in the Atlantic. In 1946, he enrolled at the University of Montana to study English. While there, he became interested in theater. During one of the amateur productions, he met his future wife, Nancy Fields, whom he married in 1951. They would later adopted their only child while in Rome, Italy in 1962 while he filmed Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s Cleopatra.

I first fell in lust with O'Connor for his role as crusty police chief William 'Bill' Gillespie on the crime drama "In the Heat of the Night." O'Connor captured my imagination so much that he still remains one of the key templates of what a daddy should be like to me. Chubby, grey hair, gentle features but with a hint 'I'll fuck you up if you cross me' added for good measure. But as hot as he looked on the show, he looked insanely gorgeous as Archie on reruns of "All in the Family." Yes a rarity for me. Liking a man when they were younger.

Even though O'Connor was nothing like his alter ego, Archie. Being shy, soft-spoken, introverted, intellectual and liberal. He had a charm that would have had me on my knees in minutes of speaking with him. Just sheer daddy perfection. He may not have been traditional-leading-man handsome, but I’ve always found Mr. O'Connor as nice looking. Listed as #20 on TV Land’s Top 50 TV Icons Countdown, but in the top five on my all time actors that I’d like to fuck senseless. O'Connor died at the age of 76 on June 21, 2001, in Culver City, California, from a heart attack brought on by complications from diabetes.

okay so, redesigning nadine for the third and (hopefully) final time. i felt she looked too similar to soraya (my keyframes fall mc) so i changed nadine up a bit. also!! i was trying to find oc templates to fill out for my visual novel ocs and although there’s so many out there, none were exactly what i was looking for soooo…. I made my own! i’ll post my other our life ocs with them soon but first, nadine ! (again)

I’ve also changed my own mind. Nadine will be my MC for Qiu’s route.

Nadine introduction <3

Nadine spent much of her early childhood moving from place to place, all within her home state of California but oftentimes in different cities. Moving around so often made it hard to keep in contact with friends and after a while made it especially hard making friends in the first place.

When Opal tells Nadine they‘re moving once again, Nadine is surprised to learn they’re moving to Oregon, their neighboring state. This time, she learns it’ll be a more permanent location. Nadine doesn’t know exactly how to feel. She’s so used to moving around that being in a place for so long sounds foreign, weird and new. However, part of her can’t help but feel excited, especially since she gets her own room now! But no matter what, she knows mama will be with her every step of the way.

Upon meeting Qiu and Tamarack, Nadine quickly feels they can be the best of friends. Nadine has always been more of a quiet person but not necessarily shy. Spend enough time with her and you’ll find she can talk quite a lot. Yet she’s perfectly content with simply listening as well.

Nadine is mostly a rule follower. Rules are there for a reason right? She prides herself on being neat and orderly. All her belongings are pristine and in their place because that’s just how she likes it. During step 1, Nadine strongly dislikes getting dirty. Which can be difficult to avoid if you’re playing outside in the woods.

Step Two !!

After four years, Nadine has adjusted well into her new home. Although Nadine needs glasses she very much prefers to use eye contacts instead. It’s also the most convenient when ice skating. She’s taken on ice skating as her main past time and she’s fairly good. Her transportation of choice has been rollerblading so it makes sense she got into ice skating as well.

Her other hobbies are more on the creative side. She enjoys crafting and drawing on occasion. Cosplaying is also one of her major hobbies. For years she has worked on making her Halloween costumes with the help of Mama.

During this time Nadine becomes more of a shy person. During her earlier childhood, she had no problem voicing her thoughts and opinions but it seems now that sort of thing gets harder to do as you age. Thankfully, she has her two close friends to turn to whenever she needs a hand, and in turn she will be there for them as well.

Step Three !!

Nadine has less and less time to do things she wants. If this is how adult life is she wants zero part of it </3

Nadine has always prioritized their studies (although that became much harder to do when middle school started due to her procrastination habits). Now college is weighing on their mind. Nadine still very much enjoys ice skating yet she struggles to make time to practice. Similarly, cosplaying has turning into a year long project (for Halloween of course). Doing multiple cosplays a year is something she doesn’t have time for anymore. Although they are often busy, Nadine will always make time for a special someone and her best friend, Tamarack.

Throughout many years Nadine has learned things about themselves and grown into the person they are today. Her experiences and the people she has been around since she was ten years old have impacted her life to mold her into who she is, for better or worse. And honestly, they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Imagine, for a moment, a Percy Jackson who grew up an only child, but was born a twin. His stillborn brother, Theo, an ever-present shadow that he misses.

Imagine a Percy Jackson who grows up sharing dreams with a stranger boy, who looks a little bit too much like his mum for it to be a coincidence.

Imagine a Percy Jackson who goes on his first quest at the age of 12, the same as this strange boy he knows - but he's not a boy anymore, but a girl.

Theseus Jackson is born to Neptune and Sally Jackson on August 18, just before sunrise. Just before his brother. He's taken away though, and the Mist is used to make Sally believe he'd been stillborn. He's trained by Lupa and raised by the Vestal Virgins of New Rome, a template for Jason Grace to follow in four years.

Theseus Jackson leaves his mark on Camp Jupiter and New Rome, growing up in the legion. He builds a reputation as the son of Neptune. He changes attitudes, just a little bit.

Then, when he's twelve, he realises he's not a boy, but a girl. Her brother has just discovered he's a demigod.

She chooses the name Iovita. He is claimed by Poseidon.

They start their first quests on the same day. They finish their quests on the same day. Vita heads toward the East, to a city in New York state. Percy heads toward the West, to Los Angeles in California.

The next summer, Vita goes on a quest with Jason to deal with the Trojan sea monster in Washington state. Her fatal flaw is excessive practicality. Percy goes on a quest with Annabeth to the Sea of Monsters off Florida. His fatal flaw is excessive loyalty.

In winter, Vita is on another quest and guides Reyna to the Wolf House. Hylla chooses to join the Amazons instead, before they can leave the dock. She goes on a quest that ends on Mount Olympus. Percy is on a retrieval mission and guides Nico to Camp Half-Blood. Bianca chooses to join the Hunters instead, before they can leave Westover Hall. He goes on a quest that ends on Mount Tam.

The labyrinth is used against both camps the next summer. Iovita and Percy help lead their respective camps in the battles.

The final skirmishes of the Great Prophecy take place on August 18. Their birthday. Everything ends at dawn, between the twins' times of birth.

Everything regarding them has been equal, balanced, mirrored, measured.

When Hera takes Percy, in this world, she does not take Jason. Instead, she takes Vita, because the twins cannot meet yet. (They have passed each other on quests, seen each other and helped each other when their paths cross. This is not the same as properly meeting each other.)

Vita wakes up on that bus, holding the hand of a girl who says they're best friends and a row behind a boy who is supposedly her boyfriend. She doesn't remember anything other than one name, and an affectionate laugh: Reyna. Percy eventually wakes up in the Wolf House, surrounded by wolves. He doesn't remember anything other than one name, and a sharp smile: Annabeth.

Vita has an easier time at Camp Half-Blood because of the legacy Percy left. Percy has an easier time at Camp Jupiter because of the changes Vita caused.

Vita has big shoes to fill, with this brother of hers having saved Olympus (what is this jealousy she feels?), and revolutionised the treatment of the non-Olympian gods and goddesses. Percy has big shoes to fill, with this sister of his having destroyed Othrys (why is he jealous?), and revolutionised the perception of Neptune and his children.

Vita has to rescue the Queen of the Gods from Mother Earth before the solstice. Percy has to rescue the god of (Peaceful) Death from the Bane of Pluto before the Feast of Fortuna.

Vita takes Drew Tanaka and Leo Valdez on her quest. Percy takes Hazel Levesque and Frank Zhang.

Vita chooses a bunk far away from her brother's in the Poseidon cabin - she refuses to be an extension of this great hero, because she is her own person. Percy takes the only empty bunk in the Fifth Cohort barracks, and his glad it's far away from his sister's - he refuses to be an extension of this great soldier, because he is his own person.

Vita ends up becoming a mentor to a lot of the younger campers, and helps Annabeth and Grover lighten up and relax a bit. She creates her own place as a leader in the structure of Camp Half-Blood. Percy ends up becoming a mentor to a lot of the younger legionnaires, and helps Jason and Reyna lighten up and relax a bit. He creates his own place as a leader in the structure of Camp Jupiter.

When Percy finally drinks the gorgon's blood, saved from Phineas on his quest to Alaska, it helps with both of their memories.

Vita looks back on these warm moments and realises, oh. Oh. She has a massive crush on Reyna. Percy looks back on these warm moments and realises, oh. Oh. He's not in a good relationship.

Vita catastrophized her relationship with Reyna when she couldn't remember. Percy romanticized his relationship with Annabeth when he couldn't remember. They're now able to be objective about the relationships, and everything has changed.

Vita is still a little bit doubtful of her crush. Percy is still a little bit hopeful for his relationship.

They meet for the first time when Annabeth, Drew, Vita, Leo, and Grover fly over New Rome.

Reyna enters Vita's line of sight, and her heart stutters for a moment in response. Annabeth judo flips Percy, and the legionnaires of Camp Jupiter react accordingly.

Vita stays quiet. Percy stays quiet.

Something goes wrong, and they have to leave quickly after the peaceful lunch and reunions with old, half-remembered friends.

Hazel, Frank, Percy, and a retired legionnaire join the five already on the Argo II.

Vita and Percy properly meet 5 minutes later, in the communal bedroom belowdecks. Things are awkward, until Vita asks for stories of their mum and Percy asks for stories of her childhood in return.

Things turn out pretty good.

Then Annabeth is caught by Arachne, and Vita bends to cut off the web still attached to the proud girl's ankle. She manages to saw it off, but it's now stuck to her and pulling her towards the hole to Tartarus. Percy, per his loyalty, tries to catch her and hold her up. They both fall.

Things are bad, sure, but their bond strengthens. They fully and properly understand each other. They do dark things they wouldn't otherwise, but understand the necessity and don't judge the other for it.

They come out of the House of Hades and continue to follow through on their quest.

Vita gets a cut on her leg. Percy still gets a bloody nose. Gaea still stirs.

The battle at Half-Blood Hill is fought and won.

Vita asks Reyna out. Percy breaks up with Annabeth.

Percy goes home to his mother. Vita meets her mother.
