when Jason is trapped, it's very hard for him. He can become despondent if he feels there is no way out. The energy of a man of action will turn in on himself and convert to self-destructive behaviors if this goes on too long.
add to that constant pressure, living in an upside-down environment, where the horrific becomes routine, and the evil rule, the burden on his psyche becomes almost unmanageable.
However, if he's allowed an outlet, some hope, a potential escape -- his energy will be diverted outward, a more natural state. However, because the pressure has been building for a while, it may manifest in destructive ways-- things may get out of hand. The rage and terror that's been bound up inside him will burst out at his enemies-- and he may not be able to control it.
The man of action is sometimes also a man of violence. How much is his soul damaged-- without him even realizing it? How distorted has everything become after the constant dehumanization?
in such an environment where violence and slavery is normalized, you don't even realize in what ways you have been affected. Until it's too late.

cults focus on catharsis, with the cult as the catalyst. In a way that ultimately bonds you to them and makes you dependent on them. Your very sense of self tangled up with them inextricably. So that tearing them out tears away part of your essence. Deprogramming means very very delicate surgery to avoid damage and avoid snapping back to the "safety" of the fold of the cult.

From writing today -
{from Generation Chapter 62}
--
Panic gripped him, making reality tilt and waver, its edges a sickly yellow, the center a washed-out blue.
“Get over here. Now.”
Kell laughed, the sound ringing harshly against his skull. It was a knowing laugh, slicing deep into his heart.
Jason shook his head. Tears threatened. He couldn’t move even if he’d have wanted to.
His chest was filled with cotton. He couldn’t breathe. He took fast, shallow breaths, trying not to gasp for air, trying to maintain at least an image of calm. Even if he knew it was futile.
Not let them win. As much as possible. Even though it means just holding onto a few shreds of humanity. I have to let that be a triumph…maybe all I can get in this place. Not let it be a defeat, even if I’m drowning in darkness…

THeinc-HIM Daily Bible Meditation - February 13 - Full Text - Shabbat Shalom - Congratulations on you Bat Mitzvah Abby Meyer!
Shabbat Shalom!
FEBRUARY 13
PSALMS: 13, 43, 73, 103, 133
PROVERBS: 13
OLD TESTAMENT: JUDGES 21:1 - RUTH 1:22
NEW TESTAMENT: JOHN 4:4 - 22
PSALMS: 13
1 How long, LORD?
Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul,
Having sorrow in my heart every day?
How long shall my enemy triumph over me?
3 Behold, and answer me, LORD, my God.
Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death;
4 Lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed against him;
" Lest my adversaries rejoice when I fall.
5 But I trust in your loving kindness.
My heart rejoices in your yeshu`ah.
6 I will sing to the LORD,
Because he has been good to me.
PSALMS: 43
1 Vindicate me, God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation.
Oh, deliver me from deceitful and wicked men.
2 For you are the God of my strength.
Why have you rejected me?
Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
3 Oh, send out your light and your truth.
Let them lead me. Let them bring me to your holy hill,
To your tents.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
To God, my exceeding joy.
I will praise you on the harp, God, my God.
5 Why are you in despair, my soul?
Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God!
For I shall still praise him,
The saving help of my face, and my God.
PSALMS: 73
1 Surely God is good to Yisra'el,
To those who are pure in heart.
2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone.
My steps had nearly slipped.
3 For I was envious of the arrogant,
When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no struggles in their death,
But their strength is firm.
5 They are free from burdens of men,
Neither are they plagued like other men.
6 Therefore pride is like a chain around their neck.
Violence covers them like a garment.
7 Their eyes bulge with fat.
Their minds pass the limits of conceit.
8 They scoff and speak with malice.
In arrogance, they threaten oppression.
9 They have set their mouth in the heavens.
Their tongue walks through the eretz.
10 Therefore their people return to them,
And they drink up waters of abundance.
11 They say, "How does God know?
Is there knowledge in Ha`Elyon?"
12 Behold, these are the wicked.
Being always at ease, they increase in riches.
13 Surely in vain I have cleansed my heart,
And washed my hands in innocence,
14 For all day long have I been plagued,
And punished every morning.
15 If I had said, "I will speak thus;"
Behold, I would have betrayed the generation of your children.
16 When I tried to understand this,
It was too painful for me;
17 Until I entered God's sanctuary,
And considered their latter end.
18 Surely you set them in slippery places.
You throw them down to destruction.
19 How they are suddenly destroyed!
They are completely swept away with terrors.
20 As a dream when one wakes up,
So, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.
21 For my soul was grieved.
I was embittered in my heart.
22 I was so senseless and ignorant.
I was a brute beast before you.
23 Nevertheless, I am continually with you.
You have held my right hand.
24 You will guide me with your counsel,
And afterward receive me to glory.
25 Who do I have in heaven?
There is no one on eretz who I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart fails,
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
27 For, behold, those who are far from you shall perish.
You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to you.
28 But it is good for me to come close to God.
I have made the Lord GOD my refuge,
That I may tell of all your works.
PSALMS: 103
1 Praise the LORD, my soul!
All that is within me, praise his holy name!
2 Praise the LORD, my soul,
And don't forget all his benefits;
3 Who forgives all your sins;
Who heals all your diseases;
4 Who redeems your life from destruction;
Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies;
5 Who satisfies your desire with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
6 The LORD executes righteous acts,
And justice for all who are oppressed.
7 He made known his ways to Moshe,
His deeds to the children of Yisra'el.
8 The LORD is merciful and gracious,
Slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness.
9 He will not always accuse;
Neither will he stay angry forever.
10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor rewarded us for our iniquities.
11 For as the heavens are high above the eretz,
So great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him.
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 Like a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.
14 For he knows how we are made.
He remembers that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are like grass.
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone.
Its place remembers it no more.
17 But the LORD's loving kindness is from everlasting
to everlasting with those who fear him,
His righteousness to children's children;
18 To those who keep his covenant,
To those who remember to obey his precepts.
19 The LORD has established his throne in the heavens.
His kingdom rules over all.
20 Praise the LORD, you angels of his,
Who are mighty in strength, who fulfill his word,
Obeying the voice of his word.
21 Praise the LORD, all you hosts of his,
You servants of his, who do his pleasure.
22 Praise the LORD, all you works of his,
In all places of his dominion.
Praise the LORD, my soul.
PSALMS: 133
1 See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil on the head,
That ran down on the beard,
Even Aharon's beard;
That came down on the edge of his robes;
3 Like the dew of Hermon,
That comes down on the hills of Tziyon:
For there the LORD gives the blessing,
Even life forevermore.
PROVERBS: 13
1 A wise son listens to his father's instruction,
But a scoffer doesn't listen to rebuke.
2 By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things;
But the unfaithful crave violence.
3 He who guards his mouth guards his soul.
One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
4 The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing,
But the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.
5 A righteous man hates lies,
But a wicked man brings shame and disgrace.
6 Righteousness guards the way of integrity,
But wickedness overthrows the sinner.
7 There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing.
There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth.
8 The ransom of a man's life is his riches,
But the poor hears no threats.
9 The light of the righteous shines brightly,
But the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.
10 By pride comes only quarrels,
But with ones who take advice is wisdom.
11 Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away,
But he who gathers by hand makes it grow.
12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.
13 Whoever despises instruction will pay for it,
But he who respects a command will be rewarded.
14 The teaching of the wise is a spring of life,
To turn from the snares of death.
15 Good understanding wins favor;
But the way of the unfaithful is hard.
16 Every prudent man acts from knowledge,
But a fool exposes folly.
17 A wicked messenger falls into trouble,
But a trustworthy envoy gains healing.
18 Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline,
But he who heeds correction shall be honored.
19 Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul,
But fools detest turning from evil.
20 One who walks with wise men grows wise,
But a companion of fools suffers harm.
21 Misfortune pursues sinners,
But prosperity rewards the righteous.
22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children,
But the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous.
23 An abundance of food is in poor people's fields,
But injustice sweeps it away.
24 One who spares the rod hates his son,
But one who loves him is careful to discipline him.
25 The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul,
But the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
OLD TESTAMENT: JUDGES 21:1 - RUTH 1:22
21:1 Now the men of Yisra'el had sworn in Mitzpah, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter to Binyamin as wife.
2 The people came to Beit-El, and sat there until evening before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore.
3 They said, the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, why has this happened in Yisra'el, that there should be today one tribe lacking in Yisra'el?
4 It happened on the next day that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace-offerings.
5 The children of Yisra'el said, Who is there among all the tribes of Yisra'el who didn't come up in the assembly to the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him who didn't come up to the LORD to Mitzpah, saying, He shall surely be put to death.
6 The children of Yisra'el repented them for Binyamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Yisra'el this day.
7 How shall we do for wives for those who remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?
8 They said, What one is there of the tribes of Yisra'el who didn't come up to the LORD to Mitzpah? Behold, there came none to the camp from Yavesh-Gil`ad to the assembly.
9 For when the people were numbered, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Yavesh-Gil`ad there.
10 The congregation sent there twelve thousand men of the most valiant, and commanded them, saying, Go and strike the inhabitants of Yavesh-Gil`ad with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.
11 This is the thing that you shall do: you shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman who has lain by man.
12 They found among the inhabitants of Yavesh-Gil`ad four hundred young virgins, who had not known man by lying with him; and they brought them to the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Kana`an.
13 The whole congregation sent and spoke to the children of Binyamin who were in the rock of Rimmon, and proclaimed shalom to them.
14 Binyamin returned at that time; and they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Yavesh-Gil`ad: and yet so they weren't enough for them.
15 The people repented them for Binyamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Yisra'el.
16 Then the Zakenim of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for those who remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Binyamin?
17 They said, There must be an inheritance for those who are escaped of Binyamin, that a tribe not be blotted out from Yisra'el.
18 However we may not give them wives of our daughters, for the children of Yisra'el had sworn, saying, Cursed be he who gives a wife to Binyamin.
19 They said, Behold, there is a feast of the LORD from year to year in Shiloh, which is on the north of Beit-El, on the east side of the highway that goes up from Beit-El to Shekhem, and on the south of Levonah.
20 They commanded the children of Binyamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards,
21 and see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then come you out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Binyamin.
22 It shall be, when their fathers or their brothers come to complain to us, that we will say to them, Grant them graciously to us, because we didn't take for each man his wife in battle, neither did you give them to them, else would you now be guilty.
23 The children of Binyamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of those who danced, whom they carried off: and they went and returned to their inheritance, and built the cities, and lived in them.
24 The children of Yisra'el departed there at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from there every man to his inheritance.
25 In those days there was no king in Yisra'el: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
1:1 It happened in the days when the judges judged, that there was a famine in the land. A certain man of Beit-Lechem-Yehudah went to sojourn in the country of Mo'av, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
2 The name of the man was Elimelekh, and the name of his wife Na`omi, and the name of his two sons Machlon and Kilyon, Efratites of Beit-Lechem-Yehudah. They came into the country of Mo'av, and continued there.
3 Elimelekh, Na`omi's husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons.
4 They took them wives of the women of Mo'av; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Rut: and they lived there about ten years.
5 Machlon and Kilyon died both of them; and the woman was left of her two children and of her husband.
6 Then she arose with her daughters-in-law, that she might return from the country of Mo'av: for she had heard in the country of Mo'av how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.
7 She went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Yehudah.
8 Na`omi said to her two daughters-in-law, Go, return each of you to her mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead, and with me.
9 The LORD grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voice, and wept.
10 They said to her, No, but we will return with you to your people.
11 Na`omi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will you go with me? have I yet sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
12 Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should even have a husband tonight, and should also bear sons;
13 would you therefore wait until they were grown? would you therefore stay from having husbands? nay, my daughters, for it grieves me much for your sakes, for the hand of the LORD is gone forth against me.
14 They lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Rut joined with her.
15 She said, Behold, your sister-in-law is gone back to her people, and to her god: return you after your sister-in-law.
16 Rut said, "Don't entreat me to leave you, and to return from following after you, for where you go, I will go; and where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God;
17 where you die, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if anything but death part you and me."
18 When she saw that she was steadfastly minded to go with her, she left off speaking to her.
19 So they two went until they came to Beit-Lechem. It happened, when they were come to Beit-Lechem, that all the city was moved about them, and [the women] said, Is this Na`omi?
20 She said to them, "Don't call me Na`omi, call me Mara; for Shaddai has dealt very bitterly with me.
21 I went out full, and the LORD has brought me home again empty; why do you call me Na`omi, seeing the LORD has testified against me, and Shaddai has afflicted me?"
22 So Na`omi returned, and Rut the Mo'avite, her daughter-in-law, with her, who returned out of the country of Mo'av: and they came to Beit-Lechem in the beginning of barley harvest.
NEW TESTAMENT: JOHN 4:4 - 22
4:4 He needed to pass through Shomron.
5 So he came to a city of Shomron, called Shekhem, near the parcel of ground that Ya`akov gave to his son, Yosef.
6 Ya`akov's well was there. Yeshua therefore, being tired from his journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7 A woman of Shomron came to draw water. Yeshua said to her, "Give me a drink."
8 For his talmidim had gone away into the city to buy food.
9 The Shomroni woman therefore said to him, "How is it that you, being a Yehudi, ask for a drink from me, a Shomroni woman?" (For Yehudim have no dealings with Shomroni.)
10 Yeshua answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."
11 The woman said to him, "Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. From where then have you that living water?
12 Are you greater than our father, Ya`akov, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, as did his sons, and his cattle?"
13 Yeshua answered her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."
15 The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that I don't get thirsty, neither come all the way here to draw."
16 Yeshua said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come here."
17 The woman answered, "I have no husband." Yeshua said to her, "You said well, 'I have no husband,'
18 for you have had five husbands; and he whom you now have is not your husband. This you have said truly."
19 The woman said to him, "Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.
20 Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you Yehudim say that in Yerushalayim is the place where people ought to worship."
21 Yeshua said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour comes, when neither in this mountain, nor in Yerushalayim, will you worship the Father.
22 You worship that which you don't know. We worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Yehudim.

Yavesh Core is a bit like Hotel California. It's a labyrinthine place with rot at its heart. It's lavish with pleasure and decadence, but it's completely twisted, with dark tendrils snaking through it. Things are distorted; it doesn't work by normal rules. People are lured there, then trapped.
They can check out any time they like, but they can never leave.
#Yavesh core#Hotel California#I just realized this last week when hearing the song when cleaning to leave#It's not perfect parallel#But it has this flavor#Her mind is definitely twisted

One thing you can't say about Yavesh is that they aren't diverse.
And that Elena isn't a confident woman, who is totally comfortable in her own body, and embraces motherhood

Jason had been a zombie all morning; at least they’d had church, so he didn’t have to be as active. They held church in the Cathedral, sitting in the most obscuring thicket, so they were barely visible from the outside. There were no Bibles in Yavesh Core, which wasn’t surprising, but Rick had used verses from memory and dredged up a sermon from when he’d done a few guest sermons at his church. It had been about Psalm 23, and the familiar chapter had soothed his soul, taking on new meaning here.

2400 words today!
Wrote this one scene... then, tragedy strikes. But it does every day in Yavesh Core, where the slaves are kept. It isn't always the people you are close to, but it could be at any time. It could be you at any time. Even if you have reason to hope you will be left alone at least for a little while, there are no guarantees. What is called "protection" could dissolve at any moment. You can fight.... but the guards and overseers have much more power.
You're in a constant space of being traumatized over and over again. Constant stress. Your wounds just begin to heal over, then they are ripped apart again. It's hard to hold onto hope, but you can gain small scraps of joy by being with each other. Forming bonds, becoming a found family of sorts.
It's worth it, even if it makes it worse when people you care about are dragged away....

spoilers for Generation Chapter 47
“James—what’s wrong?"said Connie. "I know—it’s awful. But maybe we better get you to a doctor—”
“No, you don’t understand—” He gasped, a sob wracking his throat. “They’ve been—” His body shook with another sob. Panicked breaths raged through his chest.
She stroked his hair, which was damp with sweat. “Hey—you can tell me.”
His eyes darted to hers, burning with shock and horror. “I…don’t know if I can.” He slid toward her, trying to prop himself up and failing. His voice fell to a whisper. “They might be listening.”
“Yavesh?”
He flinched at the name. Nodded.
“I don’t think they can get in the palace.”
“They can get anywhere. That’s what they said—” He stopped.
“They…spoke to you?”
He hesitated, then nodded slowly. He attempted to prop himself up on his elbow and she helped him, holding him up, her arm around his back. He hunched over in a vague semblance of a sitting position; she kept her arm around him, since his body trembled so much, she feared he’d collapse again.

From writing today-

A moment later the king looked up again, his jaw set, as if steeled against despair. “I try not to think of it directly, or I couldn’t do my job. I don’t have that luxury.” He glanced at Darya. “I have to do what I can to help her…. Which so far isn’t much.” His fist clenched, knuckles white. “If only I could lead an army in, guns blazing… But there’s no castle to storm. Just shifting shadows.” Anger flashed across his face. “I would turn myself in if there were no other way. But I can do more good like this…. In authority. It’s authority that matters, not my heritage… which won’t mean anything in a few years. I just have to find some sort of…inroad…. Something concrete. A path to their lair so I can burn it down.”
“I want to burn it down too,” said Jason.

"A minute ago," said Amber, "I would’ve said Markov really had gone insane but… in a way, I can understand it. If someone I loved was in the same situation… I might go off the rails too. Especially if I thought it might happen again if I didn’t do something to stop it. The problem is, we don’t even know if Karl Wolff is part of Yavesh. This might be a dead end. Markov might be ruining his career for nothing.”
“You think… he can’t come back from this?” said Jason.
“We’ll have to see how this plays out. He might realize what he’s doing and listen to the voice of reason… but somehow, I doubt it.”
“So do I.”
