Takes your face gently in my hands
I know it goes against absolutely everything in canon but I will never not write Atem being in Yugi's literal shadow and moving around as a separate entity and scaring the shit out of random passersby just for kicks. Yugi is aware he's doing this but it stops him from shadow game murder so he just treats the whole ordeal as giving enrichment to his bestie. Yugi and his 101 Tips and Tricks to Caring For Your Bodysharing Demon/Spirit

Finished Fic! 'But You Won't'
This fic was an absolute joyful experience to co-write with my wonderful and blessedly patient @book-keeper! <3 Truly would be lost to insanity without my puzzlewife.
Rating: E
Warning: Some mentioning of self-harm, though nothing graphic. This is a healing journey for the boys.

Yugioh crew playing dnd
Yugi started off as the guy always playing goody two shoes character, especially support or defense until the day the character he unironically got attached to got killed in battle and he was never the same again.
Joey plays either joke characters or power crept characters, no in-between.
Tea prioritizes role play over gameplay and it bites her in the ass every time but she refuses to lose her character making integrity.
Bakura, as sweet and innocent as he is, always plays the most evil, unlikable Fuckers
Tristan is always playing the part of party leader / straight guy because everyone else are at each other's throat.
Yami? Banned from the table. Banned and never allowed back in. His character ended up being the BBEG and they could never trust him again (still laughing about it to this day)
Atem on the other hand, he's the king. He always brings extra snacks (the good shit), always willing to pay for pizza and drinks and picks it up, bought the group custom minis for their characters etc. To the point that they all individually told Yugi if he ever breaks Atem's heart, it will be on sight.
Yugi and Atem are also the cringey dnd couple that always ship their characters together lol. Truly a packaged deal.

just dropping in to say that I love love love the fact that you've organically become such a staunch yugi fan/defender!
as a kid, I was drawn in by the "cooler" characters like Atem and Kaiba, or Malik and Bakura, and all the big drama of the card games and grand destinies and the such. but finding my way back here as an adult, I've found that Yugi (+ friends!) and his heart and his brain and his quiet strength and courage is what really makes it all special to me.
maybe ive gotten soft in my old age lol but yeah i just love seeing genuine Yugi appreciation that isn't infantalising him or diminishing his capabilities and accomplishments, thanks <3
(didn't mean to ramble there lol sorry, I think I got briefly possessed by Atem)
(also enjoying seeing your thoughts on DSOD as a yugi defender, im curious to see how you feel about the ending! have fun!)
If there is anyone i will defend till my dying breath, it will be the characters who love and care to the point of self-destruction.
Also Yuugi gives me cuteness aggression. He is so adorable that I want to put him in a jar and shake it (with love and affection like how you see a kitten and want to bite it because they are so cute)
I think the main difference between Yuugi's strength and Kaiba's and Atem's is like you said:
"..I've found that Yugi (+ friends!) and his heart and his brain and his quiet strength and courage.."
Atem and Kaiba's (and most of the ygo cast tbh) are very loud about their strengths, which isn't bad at all. They are at heart, very flashy people and they deserve to be dramatic about everything.
Yuugi's strength is in his quiet kindness and silent courage and resilience. From how he accepted Atem before Atem even accepted himself, to how he was willing to sacrifice himself to take Atem's place in the Doma arc. His kindness moved Jonouchi to be a better person and gave Atem the courage to move on to the afterlife. Yuugi is not a fan of the spotlight and the way he goes about doing things reflects it.
Yuugi is like a wheat stalk in that sense. In a storm the wheat stalk bends but never breaks. In situations where other people falter, Yuugi fights till he is physically unable to.
His kindness is the foundation on which Atem builds his strength and courage upon and diminishing that is diminishing Atem's entire character and story.
In fact, diminishing Yuugi's strength is taking away a huge part of the story of YuGiOh because YuGiOh is not just about recovering the Pharaoh's memories and hyperrealistic card battles. It is also about accepting people in spite of their flaws, it is about how kindness and care can change people for the better and how friendship can teach you to love and accept yourself, because even if you are not capable of loving yourself, the people who love you are more than happy to support until you can appreciate yourself for who you are.
I think at its core, the story of YuGiOh is about how relying on other people is not a sign of weakness but rather, it is your biggest strength and I feel that Yuugi embodies this perfectly. His friends give him strength and he uses his strength to support people when they need it
(guess we both possessed by Atem :D)
(the ending was great!! i just wish that Kaiba got punched atleast once for all the terrible things he told to yuugi)

Thinkin about biting Yugi biting Atem
thinking about Yugi biting Atem a lot
In that “I have such intense cute aggression” sense
The “I can’t help it I love the taste of your skin” sense
“Kisses can’t convey my affection the way i want to” sense
casually just going through duel monsters cards, a nip to the shoulder
a gentle nibble on the ear after a whispered “I love you”

Sort of Scott Pilgrim heartshipping au that may or may not end up with yuumeishipping
So. Yugi finally gathers the courage to ask his crush, Ryou the weirdo, out who amazingly says yes! Yugi's super happy! The very next day, Yugi takes Ryou out for a fun gamer date, which somehow ends up leading them to hang out in a forest at night after a quick dinner. Yugi is a little jumpy, but Ryou holds his hand and tells him stupid stories about why the monsters in the forest won't hurt them ("oh, don't worry the creaking is just Sato. He's a vegan, so he won't eat you." "Yep, that's my ex Kaonashi, he's all bark and no bite. He's probably just jealous I have a cute date." "Did you hear that? That's probably the tengu I went out with last month. He had a really bad morning breath."). Yugi kind of laughs along at how ridiculous the things Ryou is saying are, and it actually ends up putting him at ease in a weird way.
HOWEVER. As they're about to get a little romantic, Yugi suddenly gets jumped by an actual monster! Ryou manages to ward it off and after Yugi calms down he explains to him that he did actually date all the things he joked about at one point and that Yugi got beaten up by one of his newer exes, some blood demon with an inpronouncable name (it's Yamima). Ryou also confesses that all of his human dates eventually end up being chased off or killed by all the demons he's had history with, and he asks Yugi if that would deter him from pursuing him. Yugi puffs out his chest and says "no, it wouldn't" because despite only being on one date, they've already been friends for some time, and Yugi REALLY likes Ryou. He even screams a challenge to all the demons who refuse to move on from Ryou. Ryou finds it endearing, and they leave the forest and part ways on very positive terms.
MEANWHILE back in the forest! Yamima returns to a mysterious camp (the leuge of evil exes) and tells all the other exes there that he's failed to eat Ryou's new potential bf. And that he got decked by Ryou. And Yugi's challenge. So the leader of the evil exes (Zorc probably) decides that they will all try to kill Yugi, and whoever succeeds gets Ryou for themselves. The other evil exes are pumped, and they prepare for murder.
Over the next few weeks/months, as Ryou and Yugi grow closer together, one of Ryou's main evil exes show up and try to eliminate Yugi, but Yugi and Ryou somehow always prevail (it's the power of love babeyyyyy).
The main exes are:
- Ḩ̴̬̤̘̠͈̣̰̣͋̐̈͑͐̓́͂͋̄͂͋̅͌̆̎͜e̵̢͔̮̝͇̥̞̼̯̻͇͕͌͑̑̆̍͜ͅ-̵̨̫͕̦̳͓̜̬̺̤̓͛̀̽̓̃̃̿̿́̀̽̕͜w̴̧͔̤͔̭̘͓̭̺̄͗̔͠͠h̶̢̛̛̹̹͖̬̠̫͑͌̀͛̕͜͝o̸̦̓̊͋̈́͐͜-̶̡͓͖͇̐͂̅c̸̨̢̥̭͆̏̔́͂̇̋̒̊͋̀̒́à̸̡̢̡̛̛̳͕̺͉̤̳̪͉̖̘͙ņ̷̨͔͔́͗̆͛̔̌͋̚ņ̸̳̠̼̟͓̺̰̯͓̪͈͕̗̖͐̒̇̅̑͠͝ͅo̷̧̻̳̙̼͇̯̬͇̫̽͊̀̑̋̈͘͝ṭ̶͙͔̤̈̀̈̄́̾̊́̚͘-̷̝̺͚̳̗͎̙̠̝̱͙̥͊͗͊̿͑͝ͅb̸̰̞̯̖̣̮̖̫̜͉̹͗̈̔̾́̃̀͗̂̇́̅̚ȇ̵͒́̀͒͜͝-̵͚͓̘̪̦͍̬͓̩͇́͑̄͋̆̈́̍̃̓̊͗̓̕͝͠͝ͅn̷̟̰̰̻̋̈̓̓̑̑̎̉͂̈̐͒͘à̵̗͔͇̮͙̰̹̥̭̐͊̈́̓͌͌̊͘̚m̵̳̮͖̄͆̈͐́̽̽̚͘ẹ̶̛͎̓͛͌͐̇̂̃̇̈́͝͝d̶̢̠̩͓̭̝͋̀̐̃͒̔̀̚͠ (Yamima for short), a viscous blood ghoul demon thing
- Malik, the incubus
- Bakura, a ritual game bound demon
- Kaure (tkb), the naga
- Seto, the vengeful spirit of a samurai who thinks Ryou is the reincarnation of his dead lover (he is not)
- Ryuji, a clown/jester zombie thing with a gambling problem
- And Zorc, the dragon dick demon (idk)
There is also Pharaoh Atem, some sort of undead mummy thing, but he's never actually dated Ryou before. He gets brought into the picture by Kaure, who offers Yugi to him as a potential undead consort if he successfully traps him and lets Kaure deal the finishing blow. Despite everything, Atem would still be the first to join the weird ass polycule.
Some evil exes move on from Ryou, some assimilate into the Ryou/Yugi harem, and by the end of it all, Ryou and Yugi have a whole monster army to stop Zorc from doing Zorc things.
They all live/exist/die happily ever after! (Except for Zorc) The End! 🙃

YgoPridecember2024 D31 Omegaverse
(ꈍ◡ꈍ) been thinking on this prompt since the month started 💕✨
[ID: there are 2 chibi drawings of Atem and Seto Kaiba.
1st image is a comic, it starts divided in two to separate the characters that are smiling in a challenging way, from right to left Kaiba's speech bubble is in both sides and reads "Ready to Duel?", then on the other side Yami Yugi/Atem is about to answer "Ye-" but is cut by an alarm.
next part is Yami Yugi taking some medicine and says "Hold on, gotta take my supressants" while Kaiba is shocked by this and saying "...You're an omega???"
next part is Yami Yugi trying to keep his cool, a drop of sweat slip by his cheek and says "You...Didn't know?"
then below that is Kaiba is evading to see Yami Yugi, he is blushing, "no" he says, then adds "can we... duel now?" and Yami Yugi responds with a bubble that goes up to the prev image of Yami Yugi, "yeah" also the bubble speech for him is blushing.
Clothes are for both they're both dressed like in battle city.
2nd image is a monochrome american shot drawing, Atem is smiling, eyes closed, holding a lil baby, Seto is kissing Atem on his head, grabbing his shoulder with one hand and grabbing the baby's head with his other hand. there are three little hearts between Atem and Seto's heads, also above Seto's head reads "chu~"
clothes are for Atem a black sleeveless shirt, gold arm bracelets and shocker, he is wearing the millennium puzzle as a keychain in his belt. Seto is wearing his clothes from duelist kingdom. they're both wearing wedding rings. END ID]
A nsfw, the reason why this post is themed as adult content is under cut :3 (despite the prev images are chibi next one is not, and is not explicit)
Tumblr media
( ⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝) nsfw is not my forth but I did what I could
[Drawing of Seto Kaiba and Atem embracing each other in a nest made of their clothes.
they are sitting facing each other looking into their eyes, they are blushing, panting and sweating, Seto is grabbing Atem's face with one hand, Atem has his hands behind Seto's neck.
Atem's neck has a bite mark.
Atem is wearing gold bracelets and arm bracelets and a wedding ring.
background is the clothes they have used as nest, just the nest, the card locket and Millennium Puzzle are there. END ID]
I had very important questions concerning the millennium puzzle to ask myself while drawing these, question one was if it stays during sex, I considered it to be uncomfortable if the position requires Atem's chest to have contact with someone else or against something (like a wall or bed), like in this case, the answer is No, it can't stay, but I consider it has to be close to him.
also wondered on the safety for the baby, because I thought the puzzle could hit the baby. occurred to me that he could use it like N uses his gold rubik's cube, like a keychain on his belt. and if Atem had to be baby proofed (his hair is soft, don't worry about it) then so had to be Kaiba, so no spiky coats for the man to wear while having a baby.

Yugi: Wow, Pharaoh. Why are you so scared of crocodiles?
Atem: Gee, I don't know, partner. Maybe deep down, I'm afraid of any apex predator that lived through the KT Extinction.
Yugi: The wha—?
Atem: Physically unchanged for a hundred million years because it's the perfect killing machine. A half ton of cold-blooded fury with the bite force of 20,000 newtons and a stomach acid so strong it can dissolve bones and hooves. And now we're surrounded, those snake eyes are watching from the shadows, waiting for the night.
Joey, singing: Waiting for the night!
Atem: Joey! Keep your voice down!
Joey: Why? Crocodiles don’t have ears.
Atem: They absolutely have ears!

Trying to work out the vibe for the new fic idea I mentioned. Thinking about scenes which could work.
I'm having a lot of fun with this. ^.^
........
“Rich, coming from someone barely saved from exile.”
Those words made him pause, his back straightened and he forced a deep breath.
“And what is that supposed to mean?” He said, jaw clenched, fists balled against his legs.
Yugi's look of false innocence filled his stomach with fire and he had to bite his tongue. He knew what he was doing, he could tell.
“Oh nothing.” Yugi said. “Only that I’m… surprised you’d have such an opinion. After everything.”
His shoulders squared as he stared at Yugi over the fire, cold eyes fixed firmly on him as he fought the urge to reach for his sword. To teach the other a lesson for speaking to him in such a way.
“You speak as if you know everything that happened.” He said sharply.
“I never claimed to know-”
“Because you don’t.” He spat out, throwing the stick he’d been using to stoke the fire into the flames, glowing embers exploded into the air. “So I’d suggest keeping your mouth shut on matters which do not concern you.”
For a moment, Yugi didn’t react and he thought he’d won. That he’d let the conversation go, but then Yugi smiled and he had to grit his teeth.
“Noted.” Yugi said, his voice softer than Atem expected it to be.
He huffed out a breath and closed his eyes, making an effort to relax his body, to let go of the tension in his muscles. He opened them again only to see Yugi look away from him quickly. He frowned, but said nothing.
“We should sleep.” He said but before he could tell Yugi he could turn in first the other stood up, staff held casually at his side as he smiled at him again, this time his smile didn’t make Atem want to hit him.
“I’ll take the first watch.” Yugi said. “Get some rest.”
He was about to argue, tell Yugi that no, he’d watch whilst he slept but he wasn’t being given a choice it seems. Yugi was already striding away from him, checking the wards he’d placed around them when they’d made camp.
Reluctantly he crawled into the small tent, falling onto his side as he crossed his arms against his chest. He hated that the other dared speak to him so casually about something he knew nothing about, but more than that… he hated that his words had brought up things he’d much rather not think about.
Memories of arguments, words said in anger which he couldn’t take back, the flash of a sword… he closed his eyes tight.
It did no good to linger on the past after all.

Just some crack for Season 3:
Baou: Sire, our armies are being demolished faster than we can replenish them! We must act quickly! Supreme King: Let me see who is responsible for this! I will personally send them to the stars with my own two hands! Atem: **mowing down the army with Palladium Oracle Mahad** Supreme King, now a little nervous: ...Then again there are other schools of thought.
I love this!!!
The Supreme King looks out and see
Atem and Mahad here to show this army what a real king looks like.
Seto and Blue Eyes dominating everything around them
Joey and Red Eyes destroying any stragglers
Tristan who decided to skip the dueling and just beat one of the Supreme King’s generals with his bare hands
Téa who has her own deck and is showing everyone why she is the only undefeated duelist from DM.
And at the front is Yugi and Gamora who is biting down everything in between him and his son.
Jaden snaps out of it in a cold sweat. That feeling that you get when you know your parent is about to be very disappointed sweeping though him and throwing the Haou out. Turns to the army. “You’re on your own.”

The Doctor has sonic-scanned the puzzle and figured out the Yugi-Atem bodysharing situation within 30 seconds of meeting them. Atem is a little thrown to encounter someone who's so cheerfully accepting of that fact, so determined to treat Atem like his own person, and has so much material to bond over (last survivor of your civilization? Trying to be a power-of-friendship pacifist but Really Bad At It? natch). "You can't just kill him!" "I was actually going to trap him in an ironic karmic hallucinatory hell." "Oh, that's fine then. Carry on"
Kaiba and the Master have teamed up in a mutual "I'm totally just using you to achieve my goals. And I know-you-know-I-know that you think you're the one manipulating me, but obviously I'm the smart one here >:)" kind of way. The Master might have a littttle parental/mentorly feeling toward someone who seems so much like a younger version of themself, but Kaiba would Bite And Chew And Maim at any hint of that. They're mostly trying to out-diva each other.

Somewhere under the sea :
Yugi swimming at him.
"Ok, so they're a ball at the castle tonight, you will be able to see him here!" He stopped talking to look at him an instant, "He is a prince Jounouchi"
The golden mermaid gives him a look.
"And ? That ok!" Brushing it off with his hand "Did Atem can do the magic trick for me ?"
Yugi crosses his arms.
"Yes he can but-" sighing "He think it's dangerous you know, aren't the sea enough for you?
"Oh no, no Yugi, It is but that not the same" Jounouchi bites his lips while looking at the surface "He is just so beautiful, if you had see him that day, in the morning sun-"
"Ok enough!" Stopping Jounouchi in this track, he already listened this story too much time "The sun will set soon and if you want legs" moving his own fins "we need time!"
"Yugi!" giving him a hug "You two are so cute to help me !"
"That what best friends are for, you love stuck !"
***
Arriving at the castle, a lot of humans were dancing already. He had a hard time to find some clothes not spoiled by the sea at home, but he could do anything to see his human again.
A little febrile on his new legs, he walked through the party. It was easy to see the man of his dream, standing in his flawless white suit.
He takes a drink, a little hesitant before drinking it. That was strange but not bad taste with all the little bubbles in it. Humans were fascinating, but not as much as the one he comes to see tonight. The one he crash into while looking somewhere else.
"Oh ... I am sorry !" Looking at him, struck in place by his eyes as blue as the sea he was born in.
Surprised, Seto just take a foot back "Hm hello ?"
He didn't have time to say more words that a beautiful woman appeared at the arm of his crush.
She fixed her own blue eyes on Jounouchi, curious "How is your friend Seto !? I don't remember seen him around!"
"Oh! Hm! Hello, I'm Jounouchi! I just come back around after a long time in another country ?" Smiling as he tries to remember the lines he repeated with Yugi.
Seto takes a suspicious look at him now "Your name say nothing to me but I feel like I already saw you somewhere" The blond of Jounouchi's hair takes his attention for a second, they were sparkling gold under the light, exactly like that day ... but he could remember which day.
Kisara put her mouth into a tight line, concerned "It is not like you to forget names but you are so strange since we found you on the beach last month" Looking at Jounouchi "I am sorry my fiancée don't seen to remember you for now but if you are here, I am sure you are a friend! Have fun!"
Smiling and taking Seto away with her but Seto can't stop to look at Jounouchi while walking away.
"He had a fiancée ... " while fixing the bottom of the cup, Atem was right, it was a mistake.

hi! im curious how u feel about. Kaiba's ending in dsod as a devout kaiba fan
bc quite a few ppl ik *arent* rlly big on it for reasons that include but arent limited to "it ruins the message of letting the dead go and moving on like Yugi did" and etc which i dont agree with for sm reasons but im curious abt ur thoughts on the matter too 😭
Hello.
I’ve talked about DSoD and DSoD’s ending quite a bit over the years. I've come to understand the ending of DSoD to be layered on several levels, and it actually tackles several themes in the original work from different angles at the same time, and I think trying to force the ending into one neat "this is what definitely happened" box stifles that complexity. It’s deliberately open to interpretation. I also want to make room for fans who do not like DSoD. We have our preferences and individual concepts we value from canon, and carry personal experiences we relate to canon in different ways. Please understand to those reading this that it’s alright to omit this film from your internal design of canon.
I can talk some about my own relationship and journey with DSoD. I’ve loved Yu-Gi-Oh! for a long time. I watched the show as it aired and read the manga as it was released within the United States. One of my parents died when I was young. At the time I felt very disconnected from both that event and from the other people in my household. We never talked about our feelings and I was always vastly terrible at interpreting my own emotions and behaviors. The further catch here is we were seeing a grief therapist some, and I’d been in and out of therapy for a while before that as well. I just could not parse out any feelings at all and I didn’t know how to talk to other people about things. I was disconnected from it all. We flash forward to the release of DSoD. And to my surprise, something I didn’t expect from myself, I was talking to people. I was talking about what grief looked like even if a person wasn’t labeling it. I was talking about how sometimes we can’t name what we’re feeling. What I saw in DSoD were people grieving and I understood this. And I was communicating my ideas and emotions that had been so foggy up until then. I suppose this is the strange power of an autistic interest paired with personal experience – and I was actually trying to talk about feelings and trying to bond with other people.
And I was truly pondering on and reflecting -- not on a subconscious level but on a fully conscious one now -- on the loneliness and struggles the other people in my household had felt back then too. There had been a suicide attempt at a certain point which was something I had refused to let myself think about but I was now thinking about that too.
I like stories about the experience of grief over stories that are PSAs about grief. It was going to take a grief story with teeth and bite to awaken this piece of me, not a cutesy PSA on grieving. For me, it can feel like fandom at times has this idea that everyone has it in them to just talk about their feelings and reach out and that everyone has that, and that is just not true at all. (What a further surprise to me to discover later on why I was also drawn to elements of Death-T back then, back while I still felt so disconnected from “the experience of death.”)
I’m especially drawn to and touched by Seto’s narrative, but I think Yugi’s own story in DSoD harbors this as well. As I read this line, “it ruins the message of letting the dead go and moving on like Yugi did,” I think of how I feel the story was also about Yugi accepting that it’s okay for him to draw from the strength Atem gave to him and to feel inspired by Atem even though Atem is “gone” and that this is the meaning of why Atem joined Yugi in battle in that grand final showdown in DSoD.
As I said, there is the potential of multiple layered interpretations inside the film’s ending. There’s the theme of the power of friendship and love being able to break through the universe, that friendship can be so meaningful the barriers surrounding us can’t stop those feelings. It is love as a powerful force and Seto -- who had rejected others and feelings for so long, who has felt so disconnected from everything but those brief burning moments of winning -- has embraced love and what Atem meant to him. There is the hyperfictionalized portrayal of grief and its forms like emotions as art, and how grief stays with us but evolves and matures: Death-T as angry scarred grief and the negative impacts of the departed “villain” on the living “villain”, the Ceremonial Duel as the acceptance of grief and the positive impacts left by the departed “hero” on the living “hero”, and DSoD as finally seeing and understanding the departed one as just a person just as you are a person. And grief is a permanent marker on us. It doesn’t really go away. There’s the metaphorical portrayal of closure for the survivor finally being able to say goodbye to the one they love, to see that person outside of their grief for who they are and it’s painted in an artful and literal way, and it gives Seto the tools to move forward in life carrying Atem inside his heart. And there’s the wonder of science fiction as technology and humanity and the soul are fused. Our voices and images travel across the world through technology in our reality – could it travel even further? What are human beings capable of? And it’s about Atem still possibly being savable from this place, that death wasn’t his answer because people care about him. Someone wanted to see him this badly. There is no duel, no words we see exchanged, because this gesture already says everything. Seto being here to see Atem says everything.
It’s also a possible commentary on how scars don’t go away and sometimes we can’t save someone. Sometimes someone isn’t able to break free of their ghosts and it’s possible to wish peace for that person or to be left scarred by them or both at the same time. People can be warped by their trauma and not overcome it because it’s a hard hard road to walk. To only harbor any sympathy for the survivors who are healthy, cute, and palatable belies a very conditional idea of compassion. This isn’t to say the harm isn’t real or that people don’t need to be accountable for their actions, but they are human beings who have struggled and struggled. The wounds of trauma are not shallow and healing can be hard. Seto is only 18-years-old in DSoD.
Death and love are weaved throughout Seto’s entire story in canon.
While I understand what people mean as they say “Seto needs to face the consequences of his actions and should have a strain with Mokuba," when it’s employed as a critique of the movie, I also feel very strange and think, "That's just the way grief is. Or rather how it can be and how it is for a number of people.” As I said, my own family was horrible about any talking about our feelings in the wake of grief and then that suicide attempt. There was no PSA-type talk between us. For me, the mess of DSoD comes across as real even if it’s an exaggerated presentation.
I’ve also had very dark periods in my life, terrified of having no one understand me ever again, and this also grounds me into how Seto’s head and heart may have been working. I didn’t know how to talk to people about emotions, including my family even though I loved them, and everything felt dark and like I was endlessly sinking.
And I had a moment of truly understanding how profoundly alone my father must have felt when my mother died, as my father was just as friendless as I was and didn’t have outside family to help at all.
I had felt I was incapable of connecting with other people and I felt I saw that trait within Seto, and so watching canon tell me “the bond between Seto and Atem is real, it meant something” was very very moving for me. Even if you don’t know how to talk, you can find connection through what you do understand.
I do think it’s quite understandable for people to feel put off by DSoD and its ending. I think it’s quite fair that people root for Seto and Mokuba together and that they’ve hoped for a journey of healing. People become upset on Mokuba’s behalf. I personally connect with the messiness of grief and Seto’s conflicted heart and the artful and challenging portrayal of a person spilling over in grief. I do personally hold interpretations of Seto returning, so my answer here is also shaded by that. Even on Mokuba’s side, I’ve sort of been there and it allowed me to talk about that experience which isn’t an experience many people talk about. It’s very hush-hush in our day-to-day lives and it’s not easy to talk about.
Does DSoD reward Seto’s self-destructive behavior too much? I would say I’m not here for moral lessons and life is full of so many contradictions, so many tangled complicated layered emotions. It’s fair to hold this as a personal gripe with DSoD, but given the amount of audience backlash and discussion over this ending I don’t personally feel it’s actually a fully rewarding message. It’s more layered and thematic than that to me.
For a film for a big money-making mainstream shonen franchise, DSoD is unusually arty.
Again, people have their own experiences and people need different things from art. Someone else will carry a different relationship to DSoD, and someone else may need different things to come to terms with grief.
Thank you for the ask. I hope this answer wasn’t too wordy. I think it’s good to form your own opinions too. Thank you for reading my rambling.

Hello there!
I hope you are doing well. I really love your artworks of Yugi and Yami/Atem. I especially love the collar tugging and biting you posted a bit ago. I was unaware that you had a NSFW account and I would love to see more of these amazing images you created. If you would allow it, could I know the account? If not, no worries. I still enjoy seeing your works in this account.
Have a great day!
Thank you for your love! My NSFW account is tom_rang_muoi on Twitter! It's age-restricted, so please make sure to have your age in bio so I can let you in. That account is a bit messy because I also spam memes a lot, so if it's easier, you can check out my Pixiv ID: 46350555 too.
I'm fine with sharing the filth here because this is obviously a puzzleshipping blog. I'll allow myself to be nasty 😇
