living in a dorm on the other side of the world with a lot of people from different nationalities is truly an experience

situation that just happened tonight with me (brazilian) and mica (my roomate of argentina,29) we only communicate in english but we try to talk to each other in our native languages

one of the best things about traveling is getting to meet people.

it's been less then 10 days that i joined this hostel i am right now in seoul and i already met a bunch of special souls... ⛰️♡🌙

here are some things i thought it was nice to share with you guys. at first i started this blog as a korean language blog but with time, i realized how passionate i am about all languages and all cultures. (read more!)

so for context, i got a habit from my mom to always give a bit of exchange (brazilian reais) to some of my foreign friends as like.. a piece of souvenir, something different that will make them remember me. but usually for exchange money, we keep it in our wallet for good luck.

i decided to give some bills ($2 and $5 brazilian reais) to my roomies and this is what i received in exchange!

photo 1, my roomie laura (38) who is half american and half korean. she didn't have any bills but she had some united states coins. i thought it was nice because (if i understood it right) she told me each state have their own coin illustration. so she got me those ones as a gift.

photo 2: my another roomie, baby evelyn (20) from taiwan got me some coins too and also a little gold turtle. she said i was supposed to keep it in my wallet to attract good fortune!

photos 3 and 4: evelyn didn't exactly give me this but she showed me. it seems? like a mc donalds? card from taiwan? she tried to explain it to me but i didn't understand bahahahaha.

2024.09.20 life update ♡

eng: so i'm in korea right now! this is my second time but things have been very different now. now i'm working in a hostel, trying to match my online classes with the time zone and trying to find time to explore. this dump was a little bit of my week: having my favorite sweet after so long, doing a lots of walking and spending chuseok in deoksugung.

ptbr: eu tô na coréia agora! essa é mina segunda vez mas as coisas tem sido bem diferentes agora. agora eu estou trabalhando num hostel, tentando conciliar meus estudos online com o fuso horário e tentando achar tempo pra explorar. esse dump foi um pouquinho da minha semana: andando bastante por aí, comendo meu doce favorito depois de muito tempo e passando o chuseok em deoksugung.

q: why korean (language)?

ptbr: comecei a gostar muito de kpop quando eu era adolescente mas depois de adulta comecei a gostar ainda mais da cultura da coréia e quis aprender a língua!

(eng) another mundane dump. there is no will to do things with this temperature, right? the temperature in the picture was still somewhat reasonable. lol. we (in brazil) are not prepared to handle this much cold... i had to buy a heater because i was having trouble to even fall asleep. but still, nothing better than a cup of black coffee (or more) to bright up my day hehe. 😄

(ptbr) outro dump mundano. não dá vontade de fazer nada no frio né? essa temperatura da foto ainda estava razoável. a gente (do brasil) não tem preparo pra aguentar essa friaca... eu tive que comprar um aquecedor porque tava tendo dificuldade até pra dormir. apesar dos pesares, nada que (mais de) um cafézinho preto não resolva pra alegrar meu dia hehe. 😄

eng: hai hai! it's been a while i don't post here. these days my old posts have been getting a lot of notifications so i decided to give a life update hehe. how are you all? here is vv cold... around 9 degrees. i have no idea how i'm going to the gym.now i'm in the second semester of that korean course i've started this year. my days have been filled with lots of coffee, online classes and lots of cardio to move my legs.

ptbr: oi oi! faz tempo que eu não posto aqui. esses dias uns posts meus tiveram bastante notificação então decidi fazer um life update hehe. como vocês estão? aqui está bem frio... cerca de 9 graus. não sei como estou conseguindo sair pra academia. agora eu tô no segundo semestre daquele curso de coreano que comecei esse ano. meus dias tem sido repletos de muito café quentinho, aulinhas online e mexer as pernocas no cardio.

my little reminders (for myself) of things i'll never regret 🤎🐰✨️

finding strength on my worst days to get up and have a hot shower. nothing better for me to self soothe and regulate and sometimes i forget how simple it is.

cleaning up my space. finding clarity after my room is clean. feeling instantly better after the sheets are changed and all laundry is clean.

when i choose to spend more time in the living room with my mama, instead of just isolating in my room after a long day of work. i don't actually care much about what she chooses to watch, i just enjoy spending time with her.

also taking 10 minutes that i would have been in front of the pc to stay on the kitchen to have coffee with my grandma while she talks about the news. or the same stories from her youth that i already know by heart but i love listening to her repeat them every time.

i love having 'café da tarde', which is a special time of the day around 4-6pm to have a little coffee break or snack before dinner. so! i'll never regret my cafés da tarde or eating the things i love with no feelings of guilt or shame. bread! pastries! sweet treat! a good espresso with pieces of chocolate on the side. nom nom nom. 🍫
