odysseus absolutely does present a threat to penelope if he perceives her as at all unfaithful, and i feel the unfairness of this, and i think people tend to undersell how much tension at least potentially exists between odysseus and penelope. but i'm also like. his reaction, all speculation aside, his actual reaction in the odyssey to her flirting with the suitors is delight, because he immediately ascertains that she is running a con. sorry that they're so in-sync in spite of the forces that try to drive a wedge between them, including their own misgiving hearts. sorry that they invented homophrosyne ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I knew it. I also think Percy is, just from his inner dialogue and thoughts. He just sounds like he was raised going to church. Same with Hazel. And Leo. They have the VIBE of people who were raised around churches. I’m not quite sure if they personally still believe in it though. Like Samirah al-abbas.

Hazel, for sure I think she still believes in it to a certain extent, even if she is now aware of multiple gods, I think she still believes in like Christian values.

Percy feels like someone who is raised in church, but is extremely atheist- I feel like he is aware of the concept of gods, especially because he is a demigod, but he doesn’t believe in them and doesn’t worship them similar to Magnus.

And Leo I feel like is around churches mainly because of Hispanic culture. although I don’t really feel like him personally, as an individual thinks about religion that deeply.

Yes, it’s confirmed that a strong belief in a deity is what causes them to come into existence and the Rick’s universe, but not everyone who comes into contact with that god will believe in them.

It’s like manifesting a pregnancy. And then that baby grows up and one day even becomes an activist of some sorts and they’re trying to spread their message, but not everyone agrees with them. Does that make them any less real? No, they’re still a person they still have so many people that believe in them and so many people who support them just not everyone that’s fine that’s valid..

I think in this universe, especially for the demigod who are exposed to religious culture with their mortal family, only to be exposed to completely contradictory religion when they find out about their godly half don’t consider religion based on the God.

They probably based off of culture, and values.

Chase is aware that they are not just one but many gods, of multiple mythologies, however he doesn’t believe in any of them. It’s not that he doesn’t believe they exist because he knows they exist. He has proof they exist, but he consider himself an atheist because he doesn’t align himself with the gods and he doesn’t align himself with the gods and he doesn’t worship them.

I think Percy feels the same way. He’s aware the gods are real he interacts with them quite frequently. He just doesn’t believe in them he believes they’re real he believes their existence, and he believes a lot of people worship them, but he doesn’t believe *in* them.

So that’s my first point that a demigod can be aware of the existence of gods, since their existence itself is proof of that but not believe in God.

My second point is the culture this is William, Hazel, Nico, and Leo.

They all most likely grew up in extreme church base environments.

Will and Leo are from Texas, and it’s pretty clear according to Phantom based information that he kind of grew up very Texan very southern, with the fan drawings of his mom she’s like wearing a American flag crop top and a cowboy hat. There are multiple fanarts himself a cowboy hat. And reconfirmed he is protestant.

For Leo, he quite if you look and pay attention to clues of his character, not only in the book, but in the Wikipedia page, he grew up in a very traditionally, Mexican household, and anyone who knows basic History knows that when the Europeans first arrive to the Americas the very first thing they wanted to do was teach all of the natives from Canada to Argentina about God.

And it really stuck south of the border. Hispanic households are very very religious when it weather it’s Christian or Catholic, but it’s primarily the two.

So it’s pretty easy to guess that Leo most likely grew up going to churches, especially being from the south that he probably adapted the Catholic religion culturally

Nico as well he lived in Italy in the 1930s during Mussolini’s reign during World War II of course Roman Catholic!!!!

And he was alive in the 1920s as a black woman in America again it’s very obvious that she would’ve been raised going to churches, she probably went to school at church!! it’s all it’s a pretty recent thing that you can get an education from a church. That used to be an option.

I think all these characters, even now being aware of multiple gods, instead of singular God, instead of just Jesus, still the same values they might still be scared of hell to a certain degree. But I don’t think it’s more of a belief in the God in the Bible, but more of a belief in the values of the Bible in the culture they grew up in.

My boy is absolutely terrified Nico to accept the fact that he was a homosexual. or shocked and scandalized Hazel acted in the Argo to when she found out Percy and Annabeth slept next to each other.

Another great example of this would be Samira al-Abbas, she is canonically Muslim, despite being in a environment, constantly surrounded by multiple gods, and she is extremely religious. She wears a hijab she fast and prays. And yes for her personally she believes that there’s an even higher God that’s controlling all the smaller gods, but that doesn’t have to be the case for everyone. It is very clear that she highly believes in the values in the morals of Islam, and she believes in that culture in those values in the morals., yes, in her individual case she does still believe in the God, despite living in a reality that Fights against that belief, but I don’t think it’s a forest stretch to believe that the other characters don’t feel a similar way.

Religion is a deeply personal thing. You can be raised in one religious culture and then grow up to decide that that’s not what you actually believe. You can be content and pass it on to your children for your whole life. Or maybe you have parents from two different religions and you were taught both perspectives from a young age and now your conflicting defined what you actually identify with.

In summary: my point is, the gods come into existence in this world when enough people believe in them, but as time passes circumstances changed for the individual people. Maybe you were born into a family of mortals that believed in one thing, but you were secretly related to a god that contradicts everything you were taught and it’s not easy for you to just let go of that.

will solace angst is always so, SO underrated.

everyone has heard about how much trauma nico has gone through. losing his sister, being displaced in time, being homeless, walking through tartarus, saving the world multiple times.

will could never compete with that. nor any of the seven. but he still gets angry, maybe a little envious on how much attention they’re getting. on how they saved the world.

but none of them would be there if it weren’t for *him*.

he saved annabeth’s life. saved nico’s life, saved so many campers, held everyone together as a shining light.

and everyone ignores that!! ignores that he lost family too, that when austin and kayla went missing he was alone in the apollo cabin. that when the apollo cabin went to fight in the titan war, only three of them came back.

he’s not perfect. he blames the ares cabin partially for refusing to fight.

but he can’t be anything less than relaxed. if he lets his control slip, he cannot stop himself from dissolving.

and i just think that when the seven find out will and nico are dating, they try and give will a shovel talk and he just LOSES IT.

like how dare they think that he would do ANYTHING to nico when they’ve done so much worse. who was the one to stop nico from fading away? who was the one to strong arm him into care? who was the one to open the door to the possibility that yeah, he can stay at camp and he’s welcome?
