Strangers Who Know Each Other Very Well
California stayed on me like a stain on my shirt that I could never wash out
San Diego followed me like a little sister who always cuts in on a conversation
I left to find people that could help find me
But I already had a tag on me labeled “If Lost...Return to Coronado Beach”
Everyone knew my heart belonged to only one
It belonged to her golden sunsets and sands

When the muse calls you better answer, she doesn't call just anyone.

All in one Minute
I kept replaying your smile in my mind
The fact that I can give you joy made me want to fly
In the year that felt like a dry and lonely desert
You were my heavenly rain I hope it will never change
I will always give my smile to you
In our direct exchange

“We felt the imprisonment of being a girl, the way it made your mind active and dreamy, and how you ended up knowing which colors went together. We knew that the girls were our twins, that we all existed in space like animals with identical skins, and that they knew everything about us though we couldn’t fathom them at all. We knew, finally, that the girls were really women in disguise, that they understood love and even death, and that our job was merely to create the noise that seemed to fascinate them.” ― Jeffrey Eugenides, The Virgin Suicides

Inner Masterpiece
You were my dream canvas
A beautifully clean slate for me to create
I used the most vibrant colors in my mind to paint you as perfect as the blue in the sky
Your pink cheeks as rosy and bright as the sunsets by the sea
You were my perfect creation as dreamlike as everything the gods made with their blessing
I always thought your earthly being would have the same dampening haze that humanity gives to everyone
I half expected it, bracing myself for imperfections and flaws I would have to overlook
But as soon as my eyes opened to greet yours, you were clear and heavenly light shone on your freckles
I still can’t believe that you lived up to my hopes
Still exceeding the Renaissance portraits I’ve painted of you on the high ceilings in my mind

Conversation
Kindred Spirit
I write my poems for you because I know at times it can feel like this world was not made for your heart.

An Inky Sea
I write for you
And I write for me
My tears turn to ink so I may make my sadness into words of poetry
I put them into stories that you can someday read and see me even more
I hope you may one day hear these words I say to you
Hearts side by side
Then and only then will my tears turn clear again
And fall away from my soul like rain droplets into the ocean
Maybe it will be the ocean of your heart

Painted
In the loneliness of the pink room
She made her dreams a reality until her daydreams transformed too
Hours, staring, thinking, looking at those pink walls
Those first blush, sunset clouds, peony petals, cotton candy, rose tea colored walls
They devoured her in those endless thoughts
She dreamt up imaginary worlds that surrounded around love
Where her first kiss with her one true love had already happened a thousand times
The whirlwind of this lonely fantasy enveloped the girl
until nothing but pink fairy dust was left behind
She was gone.
