Hello all,
If you develop large format film you need to check this link out. Looks like the best option for daylight developing of small amounts. 4x5, 5x7, 8x10. I just supported the project. When it arrives I’ll do a video showing the process. Cheers!

This could be a bad thing. So many mini labs depend on them. Bad news!

You can see just how bad some of the film stock i have is in this image. I still love the ghost image.  I think the black line is from the scanner.

New work shooting old film. This is Kodak film for 1958, 1953. Developed in D76 for 8.5 minutes. ISO was rated at 3 and I still over exposed a stop more. I really love the look of old beat up film. Scanned on an Epson V700.

After several days of trying different Platinum/Palladium solutions and exposure times. I have some prints! The process is slow but I love the time it takes to work through the problems. This is an amazing process! A true art. I have just touched on the amount of options available in this medium.
A few issues… The spreading of the emulsion on the paper is not as easy as it looks. Using a brush takes some skill and the brush needs to be soaked before you start. Otherwise the salts get soaked into the bristles and the application becomes a pain. Loosing the precious PP salts to a brush is not cool so I bought a puddle pusher glass rod thinking that would be easier.  Ha… Wrong!  Getting an even pour across the paper is just as difficult to do. I like the way the glass applies the liquid. I also love the brush strokes on the edges of the coated surface. How do I get the best of both worlds?
Things to try this weekend. Different combinations of salts for more contrast and deep blacks. Different developers. Different watercolor paper. Using a different vessel to mix & pour the liquid on the paper. Working with different negative curves for a wider tonal range. Application of the salts. Brush and glass. What the hell is Tween 20? More research on the waste and how environmentally safe it is. Dry mounting the prints for framing.
Anyone out there with some experience printing Platinum/Palladium please chime in.

Ok so the first few days are in the book and this is an interesting trip so far. I arrived to the Bowman household to a bunch of boxes piled up in the corner. I unpacked everything like it was xmas! First the new Epson P600 printer. Then the UV exposure box and all the other goodies from Bostick & Sullivan. Setting up the darkroom took a day and we are still moving things around to make it easy to work.  I opened the Platinum/Palladium kit first and worked on coating my first set of papers.(top left) The paper is Arches Platine. I used the high contrast mixture of 10-10-1. Then worked on making a negative while the paper dried.(top center and right). I printed a step chart and exposed it. Then developed and thats what you see in the center row middle. I had to then scan that to make a curve for the paper/negative combo I’m using. (center right).
Bottom is a first run of images. A shot of the darkroom. And the exposure box in the center left.  All this is in the first two days of experiment.
