Finally begun my journey into writing a Jean Descole/Reader fanfic, a branching timeline from ‘A True Gentleman’ where Jean Descole and the Reader wind up being the main pairing.

I’m unsure how long it will take me to complete, but at the very least I hope it’ll make an enjoyable read.

also just out of curiosity, what's your stance on including bonus smut chapters now that the main story is over? since i know you've talked about thinking about not including them at all and stuff

Although the Reader would certainly love to stay in London, they will have to eventually return home to Duchester, where both Reader and Layton would have to engage in a long distance relationship while they finish their education. Not to worry, I have a few ideas brewing with all this in mind.

In terms of bonus smut chapters, I'm still certainly open to the idea, but rather than including them on the main A True Gentleman story, I'll have them separated on their own post to Ao3, but have them attached via series. (Apologies if my ramblings didn't make things very clear, I'm still learning new things about Ao3 every day.)

I’m already in the draft stage for a Claire chapter by happenstance. However, my plan was for a more comfort-esque tone, akin to Chapter: 34 - Teddy.

Regardless, great minds think alike. I’ll attempt to have the Claire chapter finished by tonight.

Although I’ve already mentioned this in my chapter notes, I felt as if it was worthy to mention it here, too.

Since the conclusion of A True Gentleman, I’ve already expressed my interest in the concept of bonus chapters.

You’re in luck, I just updated A True Gentleman this morning. I have a troubling habit of not abandoning projects per-se, but rather leaving them on long-term hiatus until I have the time to pick them up again.

Always assume my projects, when left without an update, are simply put on hiatus. (Unless I state otherwise.)

Thank you. Truthfully, due to happenstance, I’ve had a lot of time away from work this week, hence why I have so much time to do the hobbies I love.

I’ll be returning to my normal work schedule the following week, so unfortunately I won’t be updating the story as often as I would like.

For now, I’ll just be enjoying the free time I’ve been granted.

*Mild-ish A True Gentleman spoilers. (Particularly for those who aren't up to date.)*

Considering the last few chapters of A True Gentleman, I've been debating whether it'd be valid enough to officially tag the story as a Desmond Sycamore/Reader fanfic.

I'm certainly warming up to the idea of it developing into a love triangle (..or a love acute-angle?), but I'm still on the fence about actually tagging it as such, especially since it's so late into the story.

(The last thing I'd want to do is disappoint fans of Desmond when they realise he shows up after 27 chapters, haha.)

Hey! Just read your new chapter! It is so well written, and it is a perfect moment to see them both bond so easy with each other! They really are a good duo! Now as with the smut part, don´t get me wrong I love the chapters until this, but I would think that it would rip the dinamic apart(maybe I just think so because I prefer Fluff all together more then smut...). But this is just my own opinion so don´t feel forced to do anything, do what you want and enjoy :3

I wholeheartedly agree. My main cause for concern as to whether or not smut should be included was the fear of either losing that special beat-around-the-bush dynamic between Layton and the Reader, or that it would be quite a blunt tonal shift within the story itself.

My plan for the future is that, when the story inevitably comes to an end, I’ll be open to the idea of accepting prompts/ideas to add on as bonus chapters, along with a few raunchier ideas & short, smutty plot lines. I might even compile them on a completely different post on ao3 (but still have it attached to A True Gentleman’s alternate universe/timeline).

I hope this ramble made sense, and as a forewarning, I can be quite an indecisive person, so I could completely go against my own decision as soon as the very next day.

THE FLUFF IS GOOD!!! it's so sweet seeing these more tender moments btwn layton and the mc. i was reading the new updates in class yesterday and i was trying so hard not to smile like a goof the whole time. i think you're doing great and GAH i cant wait to see more :')) (and the porn w plot idea? i wouldn't be opposed to that 👀)

I’m relieved you appreciate the fluff, sometimes I find myself worried that it might begin to drag on for too long, especially since I have many more fluff-filled Layton/Reader chapters in mind for the future. When I tagged A True Gentleman as a slow burn, I really wish I could put more of an emphasis on the word ‘slow.’

I think what's funny about writing A True Gentleman is that I actually began writing it with the intention of it being a porn-with-plot type of fanfiction, but Layton is literally so wholesome that I can't help but make it tender and fluff-filled. I'm even tempted to dismiss the idea of including smut altogether, or at least separating it into a different ao3 post for when the time comes. Only time will tell.
