Calling Names(CN) are Different than Given names and True names. They’re like an alias, sort of. Kind of a fae thing, maybe??? Like how you’re not supposed to give them your (true) name, but they still need to call you something. There are different levels of CN, let’s generalize them into 5 categories

Stranger; this is the level you use when you’re complete strangers, or trying to figure out what/if the other has a CN yet. General can be used for anyone/thing

Acquaintance; at this level both of you have been given knowledge of the others CN (their main one, a throwaway, or one that was given to them), and if someone calls them another name in your presence you either: A. do not acknowledge that name or B. Act as if you are meeting an entirely new person.

Friend/Friendly Terms; you both have had several conversations with your CNs and are friendly with each other. (Sorry I don’t have more on this stage, I don’t have any friends)

Best Friends/+ (ask if have Q? In comments pls) Basically at this point you both are pretty close and have given each other a CN that you only use with the other.

Family/Lover/+ You call each other by either your given names or your true names, and only call CNs around outsiders.

Given Name; a name that is usually given to you at birth, can be given away in exchange for a different one

True Name; ????

Comparing to humans it’s like Generic = Man, Scientific = Homosapien, and Calling name is Human.
