Treating it like a Trump only issue is ignoring the actual causes. It's dumb to say this is just about scoring political points as a game when that is essentially what you're doing by responding to it like that.
The thing is I’m not treating it as a Trump only issue. The post just meant it had massively accelerated over the course of six months - which it has. I read somewhere that ICE’s budget is now more than the Marines.
People pointing out that similar facilities happened under Biden and Obama aren’t offering anything new. It just allows them to feel smug online, and it signals to a bunch of other people to go “Oh well, everyone’s evil. I won’t bother doing anything.”

I am once again upset that Romeo and Juliet adaptations forget Paris exists and so he's like the only character who hasn't undergone major reimaginings/readaptations because like.
He stands to benefit from EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN THE PLAY
Paris is about to take over his house, basically take over the Capulets, AND the only other hair to a comparably powerful house has been exiled after indirectly getting the only threat to Paris's claim to the throne killed
You can totally do an adaptation where everything that happens is the result of Paris's manipulations and he gets fucked over because his Light Yagami-ass planning didn't account for the situation where Romeo fucking murders him because he and Juliet are already married.
#romeo and juliet#like I also think there are structural issues to forgetting Paris exists because the events of the back half are way more comprehensible#when it's in the contest of Juliet is about to be married off to a GROWN ASS ADULT MAN OLDER THAN ROMEO#in a time where like she can't exactly divorce him#or have rights#like yeah r+j where reckless and rushing things they're ON A TIME LIMIT#but like yeah every other character has been reinterpreted as the 'real bad guy' but Paris and I'm so mad#well Juliet hasn't afaik and like I think she should also get to be a Girlboss but like#but the point is Paris works as the bad guy if you're not up for a radical retelling#like he fits so well in a normal 'oh it's a love story'#telling#like I also want an adaptation where Tybalt and Mercutio are exes#but I'm not going to pretend that'd appeal to a mainstream audience
