Going Back AU
Part 3
"You want all of us to fight you at the same time!?" Second asks with wide eyes as he looks at Chosen. The black hollowed figure simply hums in affirmation; he wasn't going to make one stick fight him alone, that would make the battle end too quickly. And the kids seemed like they wanted a challenge. "Well...I mean, if you're okay with that," Second nods, excitement flickering in his green eyes.
"I think it would make it fair," Chosen responds bluntly as he adjusts the worn bandage on his arm and knuckles. The motion is as natural to him as breathing at this point.
As he assumes a defensive stance, it's almost a reflexive gesture at this point, the crunch of his fist, the tension on his shoulder, the fluidity of his arms.
The stick figures mirror his movements, excitement radiating from them as they prepare for the challenge ahead. Red bounces eagerly on his feet with a wide grin on his face, Yellow and Blue smile at each other, and Green crunches his knuckles. Second simply stands in the middle of all of them with his fist raised firmly.
«Don't hurt them» Chosen reminds himself sternly, his expression serious. «They're just kids, they're not like you, especially they're not like him.»
And suddenly, Second is the first to attack, followed swiftly by Red. Second throws a direct punch at Chosen's face, but Chosen's reflexes are lightning-fast as he sidesteps the blow. Meanwhile, Red charges with a fist aimed directly at Chosen, but he reacts instinctively, grabbing Red's arm and countering with a powerful punch of his own, sending Red crashing to the floor along with Second with a resounding "Oof."
Chosen chastises himself mentally for the force of his blow. «Too harsh» he mutters to himself, his eyes narrowing as he watches Red and Second take a moment to recover.
Blue and Yellow rush in next, their movements coordinated as they attempt to overwhelm Chosen with speed and agility. Blue dodges Chosen's punches with practiced ease, while Yellow delivers a swift knee to Chosen's stomach. Chosen quickly regains his composure, retaliating with a calculated kick that sends Yellow tumbling to the ground. As Blue leaps in for an attack, Chosen defends himself, blocking Blue's strikes with his forearms before delivering a decisive blow to Blue's abdomen.
«Too soft» Chosen mutters to himself, his expression a mixture of determination and frustration as the sparring match continues. He's trying to make a conscious effort to not hurt them, yet also to not come off as soft, after all, one thing they can all share, it's that they're fighters. No matter the circumstances.
The fight rages on, with Chosen primarily on the defensive, expertly evading his opponents' attacks while looking for openings to counter. Despite their best efforts, the stick figures find it increasingly difficult to land a hit on Chosen, who moves with a fluid grace and precision born of years of experience.
Now Green and Second come at him again, he dodges most of Second and Green's attacks, yet Second manages to punch him in the stomach. Chosen backs off momentarily and recovers quickly, just to stand up again and throw a kick at Green's head and jaw, while his arm stops another blow from Second and punches him back in the face. Green tries to reach Chosen's feet to give Second some time, yet he quickly jumps to dodge it as he lands besides Second. Before Red and Yellow can stand up again, he lifts up Green and Second and throws them with a spin at them as they try to stand up. Finally, sensing his moment, Chosen seizes the opportunity to end the match. With a thunderous punch, he sends shockwaves rippling through the desktop as he leaps into the air, delivering a crushing blow to the ground. The force of the impact sends the entire gang hurtling to the edge of the desktop, their forms wavering as they struggle to regain their footing.
As the battle settles, Chosen stands tall amidst the fallen stick figures, his breath steady and his gaze unwavering. "So? Do I win?" he asks, his voice calm yet tinged with a hint of triumph.
However, his triumph was short-lived when he felt flames above his shoulder and nape. Chosen turns around quickly and dodges it, meanwhile trying to figure out where that fire is coming from.
No way
Tumblr media
Chosen instinctively breathes smoke as he turns his head and lets out a roar of orange and carmine, enveloping what appears to be a fox. It was the Firefox icon; is it still the same? Chosen's eyes widen as he flies above and he can see in his peripheral sight the CG, seemingly shocked and confused by what's happening. Chosen only reacts with a grunt as he clasps his arms and throws a big fireball at the Firefox logo, which makes the fox fall in pain.
"Oh no! Foxy!" Red exclaims in distress once he has gone through his shock. Green tries to stop him as he shouts, "Red! Wait-!" but Red's legs are already moving on their own towards the injured animal. He kneels before it and holds him gently as he asks, "Foxy! You okay?"
The fox just responds with a soft grunt and glaring at Chosen. The fox quickly composes itself, and when he's about to attack Chosen again, Red stops him as he says, "He's not an enemy! Stop, stop! What's wrong with you today?" Red asks, concerned. Yellow and Blue step up in front of Chosen to help Red with the growling animal, as Chosen just stares at it, remembering. The fight, Dark's creations, the mercy, the-
Second comes up from behind Chosen and shakes him out of his thoughts. "Chosen! You okay?" The orange stick figure asks with a concerned expression on his face as his friends try to help Red.
The black hollow-headed stick figure calms down his tense shoulders before lowering himself slowly onto the desktop. Finally, his mind clicks. It's the same fox icon that Chosen has fought before... before...
Noogai.
Dark.
Why did he think it was a good idea to come back? He runs towards his room, not looking back at the voices calling him desperately and worriedly.
He needs a moment alone.
Dark.
I want to hate you, but I can't.
Noogai.
I want to forgive you... but I can't.

"Going back" AvA AU
Tumblr media
First part of this / Next part
"A weekly battle?" Chosen asks with a confused look. It's been a week since he moved in with the CG, and it's been... interesting to say the least. He got his own room in a pixelated place thanks to something the kids called 'Minecraft.' He had heard of it before; it became a pretty popular game for a while. But to be honest, nothing interested TCO more than conquering websites alongside Dark back then.
Ah, Dark. For some reason, his thoughts always drift back to him...
Chosen found out the kids lacked individual names. Oh, they claimed they did, but in reality, they were simply identified by their colors. Red, Green—mere descriptors that couldn't help but make Chosen scoff inwardly, How could they settle for being identified solely by their colors?
It seemed too simplistic, too devoid of identity, for Chosen, his name had always been his beacon, his identity etched into every pixel of his existence.
Powerful, glorious, strong, special.
It is true that the black hollow-head didn't grasp the importance of it at first, but after what happened, Chosen actually had time to think, not about destruction or mayhem, just actually think. And now that he thinks about it, these kids are way more different than he is or what he's used to. Still, being named after a color is stupid at least. It looks like Alan couldn't care enough to at least name them properly.
No, Chosen shakes his head slightly as his red eyes glance at the bar task under him.
It's better this way, no expectations, no destiny or something. The kids are actually lucky, luckier than he was at least.
"What are these weekly battles about?" Chosen finally asks. He reclines himself over the soft sofa on the left side of the desktop, leaving enough space to appreciate the battle that is about to start.
"Oh, that's easy!" Second says with a smile. "It's when we usually reunite together to have like a sparring contest! The winner gets one of these," Second says excitedly as he takes out of nowhere a cubic-like trophy in gold. Seems like these kids have made their whole life around Minecraft.
The red kid (Chosen assumes the youngest one) is bouncing eagerly around, throwing punches at the air and getting excited in general. Meanwhile, the green one is patting his shoulder, probably to calm him down and then pointing at himself in an arrogant way. Red only points at him, saying in a tone of defiance, "Hey! Just because you mostly win it doesn't mean you're the best!"
Green says, leaning with his hands on his hips and smirking, "Isn't that exactly what it proves? That I'm the best?"
"Ugh! Don't try to use your mind tricks on me Green! It won't work," but Chosen could clearly perceive a hint of hesitation in Red's eyes. Kids, he thinks in a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
Meanwhile Blue and Yellow were standing more closely to Second, who was almost Infront of Chosen.
The blue one seemed excited as well but in a calmer way, while the yellow one shared his enthusiasm in the same level of excitement, she was also talking about possible strategics and nudging playfully at her blue partner about winning.
They really think this is a game.
Chosen's pupils look at the side without moving his head.«No wonder these kids don't know what to do in a real fight» his eyes narrow as he stares at a lost point on the desktop. His perceptive memory still remembers how the same sticks disintegrated in front of his helpless form.
Pinned, bloody, and beaten up. Helpless. Weak. Weak.
Cursors. Chosen hates Dark for making him feel this way, and this desktop is not helping at all. Ironically, the only other place where he has felt like this before. Thanks to a certain cursor.
Why did he think it was a good idea to come back to this place in the first place? Maybe his house was too painful destroyed to live in. Maybe it's because there are multiple wanted signs searching for him (not that he's afraid). Maybe it's because it doesn't matter where he is anymore.
He will grief survive anyway.
He won't fail again.
"Wanna join us Chosen?" Since Chosen told his name to the kids, he hasn't stopped hearing his name, he almost felt self conscious of it, Chosen glances at Second and says in a monotonous voice "Wouldn't it be unfair?"
"Unfair?...uh" Second trails off as he rests his hand on his chin. Second tilts his head with a curious look to the black stickfigure. "Maybe, but it's just a friendly sparring! You can even teach us cool moves or new techniques to learn! And probably-"
"I meant you" Chosen says in a dead tone, his crimson eyes flickering to see the green confusion in Second. "Isn't it unfair if you and I fight with them?" Second has a puzzled expression on his face.
"What do you mean by that? We're all the same here! Well except for you that you're super fast and powerf-"
"We're both powerful" Chosen says bluntly, he narrows his eyes slightly, «strange» since they came back from defeating Dark, Chosen tried to give his thanks to Second yet, the orange stickfigure looked confused about it, trying to deny he remembers anything about "healing powers" or "Resurrection" and thanking Chosen instead.
And just now, Second shakes his head stubbornly as he says "No Chosen! I already told you, I'm glad you appreciated our efforts but I was just as helpless as my...friends were" Second bows his head in the floor, his lip trembling slightly "I... almost died with them, until you saved us"
At the mention of death, the rest of the stickfigures fell silent and glanced at Chosen then at Second, seems like it was still a sensitive topic for the colorful sticks.
«So he doesn't really remember anything» Chosen thinks inwardly with a sigh, it's not of his surprised that Second is oblivious of his own powers, probably even Alan doesn't know anything about them.
Funny enough it's how it was only activated when he had to survive.
Chosen remembers being in control since the first time he was created, not a trigger or a reason, just a purpose
Survive
Still he's smart enough to know when he has done enough questions to someone, Second actually looks affected by what has happened a days ago before. Even the rest of the colorful sticks were silent and looking down or leaning on each other as if to reassure to each other they're good, they're alive.
«Enough probing»
Chosen sighs again
"If I join you, do you guys will let me be?" Chosen asks with the slightly twitch of an eyebrow in a questioning tone, sounding more reluctant than excited yet Chosen tries.
Second seems to not notice and he perks up at his question, his face splits into a wide smile as he says in a joyful tone "Oh yes please! It'll be fun, we promise!"
Red, who's in the right side of the desktop also smiles, he exclaims childlike "Yes! You'll see me kick this dude's ass!" Red chuckles as she shoves Green playfully, the latest snort at Red's statement and shoves back affectionately as he says "Hah! In your dreams!" And start bickering.
Yellow just smiles in amusement at his friends antics as Blue says with a more gentle smile looking at Second "Yeah! Maybe that would help us to improve our fighting skills as well!"
"My thoughts exactly!" Second beams as he approaches to the now excited stickfigures, shaking his arms up and down in anticipation.
Chosen looks at them with a questioning look for a few seconds, before his lips traitorously twitch slightly into the attempt of an amused smile. Kids
He quickly composes himself as he gets up slowly from the couch and asks
"So? When do we start?"

I've got a lot to say about Dark, not gonna lie.
This whole thing is based on my interpretation of AvA, by the way! Everything is just what I, a random person on the internet, thinks about a little red stick figure.
Note: I'll be using he/him for Dark and they/them for Chosen. (In normal conversation, both would be he/they or he/they/it in Dark's case, but it's easier on my brain to stick with one set per character.)
The thing about Dark is that he's very un-fleshed out. And that's almost "fine," if he was a one-off antagonist in AvA 5, maybe I could let it slide, but here we are.
Like, sure, we got The Flashback, but that was all from Chosen's perspective. Dark is there when he's relevant, but no more than that. He's been shown as nothing but "raahhhhh stab stab murder destroy" in most of The Showdown when I feel like AvA 3 and The Flashback established him as being more than that.
He was completely chill before being programmed (something I'm going to revisit), was able to work with what was in front of him, and had actually interesting interactions with other characters for being as early in the series as it was.
Later, The Flashback gave us a little bit more, with him being actually proud of making the ViraBot and also seeming to expect Chosen to be as well. Also Chosen and Dark high-fiving. That was just cute.
And then we got The Showdown. Don't get me wrong, I love the episode so much, but I feel like they took the previously established Dark and picked what they wanted to use and just forgot about it, turning him into a crazed murderer with no real transition to that from just wanting to do shit with Chosen. Then he slaughtered RYGB in cold blood and was blasted into a cliff.
Now a lot of people are saying how they don't think he'll ever come back and honestly, if that's what ends up happening, that'd just be sad.
Because Dark has so much goddamn potential.
He's already got interesting things that can be revisited and expanded upon more. After his (possibly temporary) writing off, I still had unanswered questions about him and his character.
We don't really know how much his programming affects him and his 'normal' life. Does being with Chosen and not doing anything to destroy them like his programming says he should? Are there any other things that come with being programs? Other pros and cons? We've got no fuckin' clue!
How does Dark feel about things in general? Life mindset, reactions to things going wrong outside of just murder, hell, even just an actual personality. Things that, for the most part, require a living, breathing Dark, whether to actually make sense or just not be as awkward.
And I've heard the arguments that not all the villains should have redemption arcs and Dark being dead is a reminder that there's other options, and I wholeheartedly agree.
I think that Dark could be brought back and be expanded upon while still being an antagonist. We can get to know him as a person, feel with him more.
And then it'll happen.
It'll seem like things are going well, he's going to turn around, but he doesn't. (This could also be a great opportunity to bring back to programming aspect.) And so, for one reason or another, Dark ends up actually dead, and people actually care for reasons other than its affect on Chosen.
And I feel like it's fitting.
The one who murders in cold blood for whatever reason is killed off at the end right as he tries to be different. (Or doesn't and just ends up being more sympathetic than we first thought.)
And that, my dear reader, is how to make the audience hurt and actually grieve a character, if only for the moments that they're dying.
Anyway, that turned from a rant-ish thing to what I'd do with a character, but I hope this whole thing made sense and you all have a good day.
Bye >:3

Idk if this is a hot take but I genuinely believe that victim and Chosen’s fight in The Box episode is one of the most well written scenes in AVA/M and one of my favorite scenes in media in general.
One of the reasons is because of how uncomfortable it is, and I mean that in a good way. Seeing this strong, powerful being who we’ve seen do some crazy things, be beaten treated like an animal, especially with how hard he tries to fight back, is hard to watch. We’ve seen how strong Chosen is but to see that all get taken away pretty easily is very scary n I feel we don’t talk about that enough!
(More under cut, I go a LIL insane)
Not to mention, the scene is just,, I’m not sure how to put into words but it’s just, needless violence. Again, I mean that as a good thing. There wasn’t any real reason for victim to go and do ANY of that to Chosen if his only goal with him was to interrogate him about Alan. Like vic had the power to restrain Chosen easily without a big fight but he CHOSE to draw it out, chose to have this man fight a battle he couldn’t win. There was no real reason victim had to go about this the way that he did, and there was especially no real reason for THIS;
Tumblr media
It establishes victim’s whole thing around his need for control, something he lacked when he was created. His need to establish dominance over others to make up for the fact he’s really not that special, at least compared to the other hollowheads. And what better way of showcasing that than by putting one of the strongest characters on a leash.
Not to mention, victim could’ve had all of Chosen’s powers taken away and just ended the fight there no? Like I said, he could’ve restrained Chosen in a bunch of different ways without a fight but vic WANTED a fight. vic wanted Chosen to feel as helpless and powerless as he did all those years ago, for him to feel the pain of putting all his strength into fighting for his freedom, only for it to all be in vain.
That’s also why this scene is so hard to watch; it’s a one-sided losing battle. The odds were stacked against Chosen from the minute he was placed in the Box. He wasn’t going to win even if he tried and by god, he TRIED. He gave victim a run for his money while being severely nerfed n victim being heavily buffed. But even though he tried so hard to fight for his freedom, he still lost.
What makes this fight scene so hard to watch is that you can argue it’s not even a fight scene, it’s more of a beat-up.
