Mind & Material

a thing that has resonated with me long before anything made profound sense in life...was the Cave Art of the prehistoric times.

Something about the images painted into history by our ancestors..brings to light the presence of art and its ability to transmit messages beyond the mortal reach of its creator.

The corporal form dies, but the art stays long after. not as just an idea but as a separate entity that informs future generations.

This...ability of art to be more than just pretty images...this ability of art to open portals of experience way beyond its creator, is what attracts me to creating..

The artist, much like the shaman is opening gateways into another reality, created and then made accessible by a concoction of mind and material

...consciousness and earth...

...artist and charcoal...

....shaman and mushroom...

it is the great purpose perhaps of consciousness to interact with matter..to unlock these profound events...

what for, i do not know..but this subsequent chain of events is spectacularly enlightening indeed.

Jung distinguishes between two types of artistic creation, the psychological and the visionary. About the latter he writes,

"It is a primordial experience which surpasses man's understanding and to which in his weakness he may easily succumb. The very enormity of the experience gives it its value and its shattering impact.

Sublime, pregnant with meaning yet chilling the blood with its strangeness, it arises from timeless depths. ... [in contrast, the psychological mode of artistic creation deals with] experiences of the foreground of life. These never rend the curtain that veils the cosmos; they do not exceed the bounds of our human capacities. . . . But the primordial experiences rend from top to bottom the curtain upon which is painted the picture of an ordered world, and allow a glimpse into the unfathomable abyss of the unborn and of things yet to be. . . ."

the human animal

stands in much comfort

atop the globe, so sure of his world

one foot in concrete reality

and another in certain future

but is reality really...real?

evolution with its many tools and processes

has carefully crafted the senses...

...touch, smell, taste and hearing,

with enough precision for the human animal

to navigate through life without dying

just like a computer

with its user interface

built to accomplish a task

the human animal obliviously navigates

through icons ...and expects it to be the real code.

the reality which you and I touch... smell...taste...and hear

is one constructed

crafted

created

to

hide

obscure

but also make tangible

reality lies

beyond the icons

beyond the interface

beyond the veil

of limited human consciousness
