The smell of first rain
I miss him like the poet yearns for the scent of the first rain,
The earthy embrace that awakens slumbering dreams.
I miss him like the tender arms of the plants,
Reaching out for the sun’s gentle kiss in cold, rainy days.
I long for the purity of his touch,
Like the restless sea, swelling with desire,
Waiting for the full moon to paint its waves in silver.
I miss you like Heer longs for her Ranjha’s gaze,
Like Laila aches for Majnu
through endless days.
I cry for you, a helpless, yearning plea,
Like a newborn bird calling its mother to see.
I need you as a devotee needs the divine,
As a fish seeks water its lifeline.
You are my solace, my luminous ray,
The white sunbeam that colors a rainy day.
For you are the answer my heart always sought,
The sweetest blessing my soul has caught.
I miss those evenings by the restless sea,
When time stood still, and it was just you and me.
The cold sea breeze, a gentle, soothing sigh,
As we shared laughter over steaming cups of chai.
I miss the songs you sang, the dances we shared,
Moments of joy, showing how much you cared.
I miss the nights of cooking Maggie with glee,
The simple acts that meant the world to me.
I miss the way your curls danced in my hand,
Little spirals of chaos I tried to understand.
For every moment, my heart still aches for you.
