When William was in the seventh grade, he took the fall for when a so-called friend was cheating. This is when he developed his all men are islands philosophy. Since then he’s believed that no one but yourself is going to look out for you, so its best to keep yourself separated from people because in the end they’re going to hurt you. If Will does develop a relationship, he is always the one to break it off, often prematurely, for fear of getting hurt.
