I legit wrote up a whole thing about dwarf beards and the different types of braids (they have three distinct genders and some smaller variations of non-trinary genders that are less common but still recognized) and how the braids indicate like a whole host of things beyond gender including marital status, preferences of partner, and whether or not they wish to raise children with a potential mate, and it was awesome but then something happened and i lost it and i will be forever sad.
Conversely, elves did not know what A Gender fucking was until they met humans. They only have one pronoun, and it causes a lot of confusion to outsiders. This is why it’s hard to tell the difference between male and female elves - they don’t give a shit about separating the two.

Callum likes to trash talk for Rayla. At first she’s flattered… but eventually it lands them in a bit of trouble so Rayla is no longer amused.
A request from @zuppizup for the color palette challenge! (sorry this one’s a little late 😬)
Got a request? Look at the color palette and send it to my inbox.

The Dragon Prince crew joked that the Avatar continent is across the sea from Xadia so you can’t tell me these interactions will never happen
if you see a grammatical mistake... no you didn’t ❤️

also me: remembers that callum knows rayla better than anyone because he
could tell when she was lying in s1 even when runaan (who raised her) and ezran (who had spent just as much time as him with her) could not
picked up on her fear of water after seeing her hesitate one (1) time while they were actively running for their lives
has been the one person to actively push and gently nudge her into regularly opening up
transformed her worldview into one of actively working to break the cycle
is, by her own omission, her “best friend”
has seen her at her best (confident, playful, brave) and at her lowest (grieving, snappish, mistrustful)
always defines rayla by her kindness (“rayla is kind and good” “you have true courage and a big heart” “rayla saves people. she’s brave. she does what’s right […] rayla is selfless, strong, and caring. that’s what makes her a hero, that’s what makes her rayla”) above her skill level
knows how to make her laugh even when she’s crying
furthermore, callum knows when to let her vent and when to shut down a self loathing spiral
loves her just because of who she is as a person at her core
knew that she would scoff at him saying he’d seen her parents, so he drew them, also knowing that it would convince her
knows that just because she is a hero, it doesn’t mean that she never needs to be saved, too

i know a lot of people, myself included, came away from s2 feeling like rayla’s feelings got confirmed first, because the almost confession scene is way more overt. and rightly so!
i still definitely think she fell and was aware of her feelings first, for a variety of reasons. but, in a beautiful twist of fate, the first real onscreen hint of a romance, i think, actually came from callum drawing her in 2x07. it’s a bit more foreshadow-y and symbolic, but is still like, there.
and i kind of love that the first hint is really from callum, whereas rayla’s works as a confirmation? there’s just something beautiful about callum, who usually expresses everything very vocally, holding something more to his chest while he privately works it out, and rayla, who doesn’t want to share anything vulnerable, becoming incredibly, willfully vulnerable as a result of their relationship, and we see both those things follow them into s3.
also god bless our s2 roots, we can never forget where we came from

Hearts of cinder cannot burn
When Kasef was bespelled, he grew in size and rage, shredding his tunic Hulk-style.

Maybe, if Aanya hadn’t killed him, he would have kept growing.

Sure, the Magma Titan might have lived right there by the lava border, but why was it lying down all emo as if it were wishing it were dead?
Maybe it was an abandoned human from a previous invasion into Xadia who had the Hearts of Cinder spell cast on him like Prince Kasef did. In shooting him full of arrows before he turned any further, Aanya might have saved Kasef from a long and lonely existence hovering at the very edge of the human lands, eyes ever cast homeward, but never able to set foot toward home again.
And, a darker headcanon: Maybe Viren was just being deceptive again, trying to cover an old sin with a new salvation. Maybe this poor creature was part of one of Viren’s previous attempts to gain power from Xadia–someone who wanted what was best for their people and families, who was willing to sacrifice themselves for a cause, and who had a burning hatred of Xadia. That’s the kind of person Viren needs. That’s the kind of person Viren always needs. Someone Viren can lure into volunteering for the sake of humanity.
I have two guesses who it could be, from characters we already know.
Harrow’s father, whose death Viren could’ve handwaved the way he may have handwaved Harrow’s death
Callum’s birth father
If you think about how this “monster” that Sarai was so sure was no monster at all might have been someone Viren knew personally, or someone that other characters knew and loved, and Viren convinced Sarai and Harrow to rip out their heart and burn it to save Katolis “for the sake of humanity,”–if Sarai literally stabbed her “dead” husband in the heart for the sake of her kingdom–you might get sad. So don’t think about that, okay?
