It was unhealthy,
It was controlling,
It was immature,
It was doomed from the start.
But goddammit, the love was there!
And more than anything, it was cherished.

If it's any consolation, there exists a world, somewhere out there, far away, where you could have been happy.
It just... wasn't this one.

“What would it take to make you stay?”
The question was so unexpected Neil had to turn back. “What?”
Andrew laughed quietly at his shock and leaned forward. “Name it and it’s yours. It doesn’t matter what it is so long as you stand your ground here with us.”

the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself

There are three kinds of AFTG narrators: unreliable, unavailable, and unabashed:
Neil is an unreliable narrator. He tells us plenty about his past and his surroundings, but his view of things is often altered by how he perceives the world, which is not always accurate. It means that, while we may understand Neil, we often don’t have a correct view of what’s happening around him at all times.
Jeremy is an unavailable narrator. He doesn’t tell his friends or himself/the reader the truth about very important things, which doesn’t make him unreliable, but does mean we get far less personal information than with Neil. Jeremy can tell us accurate information about the world around him, but he withholds important things about himself, making him emotionally unavailable as a narrator.
Jean is an unabashed narrator. He’s just trauma dumping on everyone everywhere lol there’s no way we don’t know what’s going on with him or the world around him.
I love them all.

"it's my parents' first time too" but it's not their first time being around a parent so couldn't they have learned what to do and not to do from their own parents?

The Kings men, chapter four

Okay i'm literally shaking posting this, i've been working on it for days i lost all objectivity about it.
Someone requested this scene when I asked for recommendations on an older post, so this is tkm chapter four:
"Andrew sprawled on the couch in the lounge while Kevin went ahead to change out. Neil hesitated, changed his mind and started after Kevin, and changed his mind again. He stood behind the couch, folding his arms across the back of it, and peered down at Andrew. Andrew had one arm folded under his head and the other draped over his eyes to block the light. 'One of these days you might as well practice with us,' Neil said."
This scene is so long I had to cut some parts (including the incredible "You let us run ourselves into the ground and clean up behind us. You play the game like you play life. That's why you're so good at it.").
Not to mention Andrew's height fear, one of my all-time favorite aftg quotes ("When you said you were afraid of heights, you were joking, right?" "Andrew, you can't be. What were you doing on the roof?" "Feeling." -tkm ch.5).
Update: I cut the (too long) comic into smaller images so that you can open it and have a better quality, hope it works!

Aftg is fun cause all the characters are living in different genres like neil is in a mafia thriller while andrew is in some a24 drama film. Kevin is the horse girl in a horse girl movie and dan is in an underdogs sports story. Poor aaron is trying to have a normal slice of life forbidden romance type beat but then he has to go and kill a guy.

sorry i'm still just so hung up on the fact that captive prince is portrayed by the general public as a series that glorifies slavery and sexual assault (aka the pinnacle of no consent) when in actuality the core theme is that the most important thing you can give someone else is their freedom and their agency and their ability to consent. like even though laurent has all this power over damen at the start of the series, even though he abuses that power a handful of times, ultimately those two spend the entire series figuring out how to best serve the other in order to overcome the violence that was done to and by each of them - not because they're in a master/slave relationship, but simply because they care about the other person and they know that neither of them was allowed the consent they deserved in previous relationships and situations!!! and at the end of all of it, they accept not only that they have been hurt by lack of consent but they acknowledge that they have been abusers in their own ways, perpetuating a system that is harmful and cruel, and when they join together to create a new kingdom they make a point to put an end to the slavery that brought them together in the first place!!!!!!! what the fuck!!!!
