Founder of "Beauty Army" is in prison. Fewer are willing to be the decoration. What to be proud of?
You're watching the news from the weekly rally at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is June 21, 2:30 PM.
On June 20, 30-year-old volunteer Nadezhda Rossinskaya, known as Nadin Geisler, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for treason and aiding terrorism. At the start of the full-scale war, the volunteer group "Beauty Army," which she founded, actively supported Ukrainian refugees in the occupied territories of Ukraine and in Belgorod. They provided monthly supplies of food and hygiene items, clothing, medical consultations, hospital medicine, animal feed, and assistance with evacuation. These are responsibilities that should fall to the occupying state—but even members of the Belgorod Red Cross, which is state-funded, ended up relying on them. "My desire to help comes from valuing these people and their lives, and the fact that they are suffering unjustly," Nadezhda said in her final statement in court. The case was held partly behind closed doors, so information is scarce. The evidence reportedly includes the testimony of her sister—who was taken from a psychiatric hospital—a livestream from Ukraine that no one has seen, and posts in social media that Nadezhda denies owning. Read more in the article by Mediazona. https://zona.media/article/2025/06/20/nadin
Seda Suleimanova, a young woman from Grozny who was kidnapped by her own relatives—and likely killed—after she moved to St. Petersburg to be with her fiancé, has now been finally officially declared missing. https://meduza.io/news/2025/06/16/pohischennuyu-chechenku-sedu-suleymanovu-ob-yavili-v-rozysk-kak-bez-vesti-propavshuyu
Read Meduza’s interview with her friend Lena Patyaeva, who launched the "Where is Seda?" campaign. They collected 3.5 times more signatures than originally planned. https://meduza.io/feature/2025/05/22/gde-seda
On June 20, Verstka reported that the nomination period for upcoming elections has begun across Russian regions—but there aren't enough willing candidates to maintain the illusion of real politics. https://verstka.media/slishkom-dorogaya-czena-za-dekoracziyu-politiki-pochemu-v-rossii-nikto-ne-hochet-idti-v-deputaty

On June 17, the BBC Russian Service reported that Kyiv was under air raid alert for nine hours during the night. A massive attack left 28 dead, more than 130 injured, and caused the collapse of a section of a nine-story residential building. On June 18, the city observed a day of mourning. That same night in Odesa, two people were killed and 17 injured; residential buildings in the city’s historic center were destroyed. https://www.bbc.com/russian/articles/c1lj5j32jpvo
In her new video, Rusya Rassvet reminds us how propaganda operates, what we are told to be proud of in Russia, and what we should strive for instead of hatred and war. Watch and listen to the new poem: "I Am Russian, or Hybrid Propaganda." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sryikU9oYyM
And remain human.

Portugal Day. Iranian Authorities Executed Protester. Odesa Film Studio Damaged.
You’re watching news from the weekly rally at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is June 14, 2:30 PM.
June 10 is Portugal Day, a day of the poet Luís de Camões, Portuguese communities abroad, the Guardian Angel, and the Armed Forces of Portugal. We congratulate all Portuguese people and are grateful for the opportunity to live and work in this beautiful country. https://ensina.rtp.pt/artigo/o-dia-de-portugal-e/
On this day in 1580, the greatest Portuguese poet, Luís de Camões, passed away. He chronicled the history of Portugal and Portuguese navigators in Os Lusíadas epic about Vasco da Gama’s journey to India. https://ncultura.pt/dia-de-portugal-se-celebra-a-10-de-junho/
Portugal is nearly nine centuries old. On October 5, 1143, King Alfonso VII of León and Castile officially recognized the independence of the kingdom founded by Dom Afonso Henriques. As it was required that time, the agreement between the two monarchs was confirmed by the papal bull “Manifestis Probatum”, issued on May 23, 1179. https://rr.pt/noticia/pais/2019/05/23/876-ou-840-anos-afinal-que-idade-tem-portugal/152401/
On June 11, the Associated Press reported that Iranian authorities had executed Abbas Kourkouri, detained during the 2022 “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests. He was accused of being part of a Revolutionary Guard volunteer unit involved in a shootout with Iranian security forces on a market in Izeh, where seven people died. Human rights groups believe Abbas was an innocent protester executed without a fair trial. The mother of nine-year-old Kian, who died in the incident, said: “When we were driving home, officers opened fire on our car.” Although Masoud Pezeshkian who became a president, promised during his campaign to end the harassment of women by the morality police, the Iranian government has begun using drones to monitor women who appear in public without headscarves. https://apnews.com/article/iran-execution-2022-mahsa-amini-protests-unrest-cf28ecb92c025c06a3c08071a19cc64a
On the night of June 7, Kharkiv suffered its most intense shelling since the start of the full-scale war. Three people were killed and 21 injured. In addition to drones, Russian forces struck a children's railway using guided bombs. https://www.rbc.ua/ukr/news/udar-dityachiy-zaliznitsi-harkovi-zaginula-1749315825.html

Russian Spies in Brazil. Russia Runs Out of Vegetables and People. New Season of Rick and Morty.
You’re watching the news from the weekly rally at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is May 24, 2:30 PM.
On May 22, Meduza published excerpts from a New York Times article detailing how Russia used Brazil and other Latin American countries to create cover identities for its intelligence agents. The goal wasn’t to spy on Brazil, but to become Brazilian. In 2022, Brazilian counterintelligence, with support from foreign partners, began tracking them down. They identified nine spies but managed to arrest only two—the rest escaped. https://meduza.io/feature/2025/05/22/konveyer-dlya-gluboko-zakonspirirovannyh-operativnikov
On May 22, The Moscow Times, citing Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture, reported that “last year’s vegetable harvest has almost run out.” Imported goods are now filling the shelves, causing a sharp rise in prices. Frosts, droughts, and declining yields are named as key factors in the bad harvest. https://www.moscowtimes.ru/2025/05/22/urozhai-zakonchilsya-vminselhoze-zayavili-chto-rossiyane-seli-vse-viraschennie-vstrane-ovoschi-a164131
On May 17, the same outlet, quoting demographer Alexei Raksha, reported that Russia’s Federal State Statistics Service has stopped publishing detailed demographic data. In 2018, Putin requested to end the “extinction of Russia” within six years. Yet last year, Russia saw an average of 3,300 births and 4,900 deaths per day. https://www.moscowtimes.ru/2025/05/17/rosstat-zasekretil-statistiku-podemografii-posle-obvala-rozhdaemosti-dominimuma-za200-let-a163629
On May 9, the Go by the Forest movement reported that the conscripts registry is no longer operating in test mode. https://t.me/iditelesom_help/5640
On May 23, The Insider reported on its YouTube channel about raids in metro. Ivan Chuvilyaev, press secretary of Go by the Forest, stated that “the prosecutor’s office has admitted: contracts are being signed on behalf of conscripts without their knowledge.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syMk0D_0gbM
On May 25, the first episode of Season 8 of Rick and Morty is to be released. Sadly, Alexei Navalny won’t see the continuation of his favorite cartoon series. On June 4, he would have turned 49. On that day, bring flowers to his memorial here at Rua Visconde de Santarém 71. https://adrl.pt/navalny-memorial/en

Bulgarian Spies for FSB Sentenced. Stalin Bas-Relief Unveiled in Moscow Metro. Draw Me a Sun, Sister.
You are watching the news from the weekly rally at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. It’s May 17, 2:30 PM.
On May 12, The Insider reported that six Bulgarian spies hired by the FSB to kidnap investigative journalists Hristo Grozev and Roman Dobrokhotov were sentenced to 5 to 10 years in prison. Some of them claimed they were unaware they were working in Russia's interests. https://theins.ru/news/281230
Back in March, The Insider published an article detailing how surveillance on Grozev and Dobrokhotov began following the investigation into Navalny's poisoning in 2020, and how plans for their kidnapping—and possibly murder—were set for 2023. https://theins.ru/inv/279015
On May 16, Novaya Gazeta reported, citing a lawyer, that former Moscow municipal deputy Alexei Gorinov—currently serving time for his anti-war stance—was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Gorinov, who is already missing part of a lung, was held in a cold cell despite his condition. "They treat Gorinov well, but there’s no medicine for him. They passed him some medications and prescribed a special diet," the lawyer said. https://novayagazeta.ru/articles/2025/05/16/u-alekseia-gorinova-vo-vremia-etapa-vyiavili-priznaki-tuberkuleza-news
On May 15, Deutsche Welle reported that a replica of a bas-relief with Stalin was unveiled in the passage between Taganskaya stations of the Koltsevaya and Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya lines of the Moscow metro. The original had been removed during the construction of the crossing amid de-Stalinization efforts. https://www.dw.com/ru/v-moskovskom-metro-otkryli-pamatnik-stalinu/a-72556363
Check out BBC's article for the 80th anniversary of the Great Terror—specifically the period of 1937–1938, known as "Yezhovshchina," which, as the article argues, should be called "Stalinshchina." During that time, the NKVD arrested 1.5 million people, with 1.3 million convicted, 680,000 executed, and 115,000 dying under torture. About 150,000 were released so Soviet propaganda could claim they were not imprisoned "in vain." After the Great Terror, the USSR introduced harsh anti-labor laws. In the seven years leading up to the war, around 6 million people were imprisoned—57% of them for so-called "crimes" like lateness to work, defective part, or failing to meet mandatory work plans. https://www.bbc.com/russian/features-40756213
On May 17, a Russian drone struck a public bus near Bilopilja in the Sumy region. According to the Sumy Regional Military Administration, the attack left 9 dead and 4 wounded. https://t.me/Sumy_news_ODA/35607
We’ve just released a new and deeply touching video by Rusya Rassvet in the Make Art Not War section on our YouTube channel. The poem is called Draw Me a Sun, Sister. https://youtube.com/shorts/rgoxbhQpHxc
Her collection of anti-war poems is helping raising funds for portable power stations for hospitals and schools in Ukraine through the online exhibition NET VOYNE. The first two batches are already in Zaporizhzhia and Sumy, and funds are being raised for the third, as the need for independent power sources remains critical. https://adrl.pt/net-voine/antiwar-poetry/en

A Brief History of the Revolution. Veterans and the Stalinization of Russia. The poem "No to War".
You are watching the news from the weekly rally at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is May 10, 2:30 PM.
On April 25, SAPO 24 published an interview of journalist José Couto Nogueira with the author of the new book A Brief History of the Process of Revolutionary Transformation. The book, written by journalist and author Rui Cardoso, covers the two most challenging years in Portugal’s political history following the Carnation Revolution of 1974. Despite numerous conflicts, this revolution was one of the few that ended peacefully and brought about democratic changes. In Russia in 1917, the Bolsheviks initially reached agreements with various parties but subsequently eliminated their rivals. This process, known as the "Leninist method" of seizing power, had been replicated in many countries. In Portugal, Álvaro Cunhal attempted a similar approach but did not succeed. https://24.sapo.pt/atualidade/artigos/rui-cardoso-durante-o-prec-nunca-houve-nunca-houve-uma-frente-um-bloco-monolitico-nem-a-esquerda-nem-a-direita
Watch lectures on the Portuguese revolution by historian Victor Pereira, discussions on the factors leading to the Russian revolution by political theorist Ilya Budraitskis, and the conference Russia Needs April 25th in the ADRL Talks section of our website. https://adrl.pt/talks/en
There are around 7,000 World War II veterans living in Russia. To mark the 80th anniversary of the victory, Russia will pay veterans 80,000 rubles, which is approximately 870 euros. On May 8, The Moscow Times reported that Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan plan to pay their veterans 10 times more. Similar payments are only being offered by regional authorities in the Sakha Republic, and the Bryansk, Kaluga, Samara regions, Dagestan, and occupied Crimea. https://www.moscowtimes.ru/2025/05/08/rossiya-viplatit-uchastnikam-velikoi-otechestvennoi-voini-menshe-vseh-v-sng-a162919
However, on April 29, Putin signed a decree renaming Volgograd Airport to Stalingrad. https://www.forbes.ru/society/536450-aeroportu-volgograda-oficial-no-prisvoili-naimenovanie-stalingrad
The Communist Party, in coordination with the authorities, has erected monuments to Stalin in Volgograd, Ulan-Ude, and the occupied city of Melitopol. https://meduza.io/news/2025/05/05/v-vologodskoy-oblasti-otkryli-vtoroy-pamyatnik-stalinu https://anhor.uz/world/what-a-2/ https://hromadske.ua/ru/voyna/244437-okupanty-vstanovyly-pamiatnyk-stalinu-v-zakhoplenomu-melitopoli
Last November, we discussed how Stalin deliberately starved millions of people to death, mainly in Ukraine, to generate foreign currency revenue. https://adrl.pt/event/2024-11-30/en
In March, NovostiVolgograda.ru reported on ongoing efforts to rename the city to Stalingrad. Despite the risks involved in participating in such surveys, the Russian Center for Public Opinion Research found that 67% of Volgograd residents still oppose the renaming. https://novostivolgograda.ru/news/2025-03-15/stalingradu-byt-zachem-i-kogda-pereimenuyut-volgograd-5344994
On April 29, the French association "Russie-Libertés" launched a campaign to support political prisoners held in Russian jails. Due to trials often being conducted behind closed doors, conservative estimates suggest that more than 3,000 individuals are detained under inhumane conditions for opposing the Kremlin regime and the war in Ukraine. The campaign aims to raise funds for the families, lawyers, and support groups of these political prisoners. https://russie-libertes.org/2025-04-29-free-them-all-soutenez-les-prisonniers-politiques-en-russie/
In the Make Art Not War section on our YouTube channel, we have released a new video featuring the anti-war poem No to War by Rusya Rassvet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9kuWb9kcOc

An Alternative to Putin’s Regime. Portugal is a Target of Propaganda. Power Outages in Portugal.
You're watching the news from the weekly rally at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is May 3, 2:30 PM.
On April 25, we held the conference "Russia Needs April 25." Together with you, we aim to develop a vision for an appealing alternative to Putin’s regime—one that unites, inspires, and encourages Russians to engage in self-organization. Video recordings in Russian are already available in the ADRL Talks section of our website: https://adrl.pt/talks/en
The editorial team of Posle.Media, which includes one of the conference speakers, Ilya Budraitskis, has published a translation of a comprehensive article on the Portuguese revolution. We're working to address the fact that so few Russians are familiar with this important history: https://www.posle.media/article/kogda-budushchee-bylo-seychas
We're also launching a project to create a database of the best examples of laws and ways of life from around the world—resources that will be valuable in shaping the Russia of the future. If you'd like to contribute to this effort, contact us at [email protected].
We are not alone on this path. On April 30, Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi presented a comprehensive, peer-reviewed plan for Iran’s future. “We have to light a new fire—a fire of enthusiasm, a fire of hope,” said Reza Pahlavi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA_8MkOGB5c
The body of Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roshchina, who died in Russian captivity, was returned to her family missing her eyes, brain, and part of her larynx—an apparent attempt to conceal evidence of torture. On April 29, Polina Uzhvak, a journalist from Important Stories, shared the details in an interview with the Popular Politics channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PfsQg8-v-Q
On April 7, Novaya Gazeta reported that the children of Anzhelika Melnikova, the missing speaker of the Coordination Council of the Belarusian opposition, are in Belarus. Her whereabouts have been unknown since March 25. https://novayagazeta.ru/articles/2025/04/07/deti-propavshei-uchastnitsy-ks-belorusskoi-oppozitsii-nakhodiatsia-v-belarusi-u-svoego-ottsa-ranee-oni-propali-v-varshave-vmeste-s-materiu-news
On April 29, the Telegram channel Can Explain reported that Russia set a new record for international propaganda spending. The RT channel has begun actively targeting audiences in Arab countries. https://t.me/mozhemobyasnit/20490
On April 25, the Lepta Telegram channel, citing Expresso, reported that a study by the Center for Information, Democracy and Citizenship at the American University in Bulgaria placed Portugal among the countries most vulnerable to Russian disinformation. https://t.me/lepta/4157
On April 28, Portugal, Spain, and parts of France experienced the largest power outage in Europe in the past 20 years. It became clear that in such situations, communications, internet access, and ATMs fail within an hour. On May 2, The Guardian reported that the network operator Red Eléctrica ruled out a rare atmospheric event and found no evidence of a cyberattack—though the investigation continues. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/may/02/blackouts-energy-outage-risks-europe-worldwide-spain-portugal-france

On April 25, on the 51st anniversary of Portugal’s bloodless Carnation Revolution, we held an online conference titled "Russia Needs April 25th," featuring 28 speakers. The goal was to launch discussions about the values of a future Russia, which will be attractive to strive for, how to engage Russians in politics, and how to, with whom and under what conditions cooperate with—both within Russia and abroad, to ensure that regime change in Russia becomes a reality.
While we are editing the recordings, you are welcome to watch a lecture on how dissatisfaction with the war in the army grew, and the desire for change fostered through communication among Portuguese who stayed and those who went abroad, which available in the ADRL Talks section on our website. https://adrl.pt/talks/en
We need your help with transcribing and translating the conference and lectures. If you would like to help, please contact us at [email protected].
One important issue raised at the conference by activists from the Voice of Reason team was burnout. Anna Rosen from the Media Partisans team invites you to the "How to Stop Burnout" webinar on May 15 at 8 PM Moscow time. https://t.me/mpartisans/3585
This collectible flag of Portugal also participated in the conference. April 20 is the day of remembrance for the victims of the Katyn massacre. In the spring of 1940, Beria’s Chekists executed at least 21,857 Polish people, mostly captured officers. A year ago, Dmitry Kolezev released a video on his YouTube channel analyzing the arguments from both sides in detail. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lwK0cvKMGI
On April 20, the Important Stories YouTube channel published a video about Sergei Zherebtsov from Chelyabinsk, who tried to save his son who was drafted into the army. The young man refused to sign a military contract, asked his family to get him out of the army, and said that this was not his war. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4UoreRlPac
On April 15, Novaya Gazeta Europe reported that Roman Ivanishin, a mobilized mining artisan, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Putin has been bombing Ukraine for 11 years. Maria Corina Machado in Time’s Top 100. Yashin opens a public office.
You’re watching the news from the weekly rally at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is April 19, 2:30 PM.
April 12 marked 11 years since the beginning of the war in Donbas. Last year, we talked about how Putin and his propaganda machine lied, how separatists shelled territory under their own control to maintain a state of war, how equipment was withdrawn, and how people in the Russian-occupied parts of Donbas became increasingly impoverished. When civilian casualties dropped to just dozens per year, propaganda ramped up the full-scale war, pushing the story that “they bombed Donbas for 8 years.” https://adrl.pt/event/2024-04-13/en
On April 13, Russian troops launched two ballistic missiles at the center of Sumy. Thirty-four people were killed, including two children; 117 were injured. The BBC Russian Service reports that the strike happened during the day—many of the victims were on the streets, in cars, or using public transport. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack, stating, “Putin must now agree to a full and immediate ceasefire without conditions,” just as Ukraine has. https://www.bbc.com/russian/articles/cm2401dn1nlo
On April 18, Russian forces hit Kharkiv with three Iskander missiles. Ukrainska Pravda reported that one person was killed and 113 injured, including nine children. Fifteen apartment buildings were damaged. https://www.pravda.com.ua/rus/news/2025/04/18/7508082/
On April 16, Time magazine published its list of the 100 most influential people of 2025. Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado was included. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described her as Venezuela’s “Iron Lady.” https://time.com/collections/100-most-influential-people-2025/7273783/maria-corina-machado/
Last year, we reported on how the Venezuelan opposition won the elections and confirmed their victory. https://adrl.pt/event/2024-08-03/en
We also covered the U.S. government's large reward for information leading to the arrest of Nicolás Maduro and several Venezuelan officials on narco-terrorism charges. https://adrl.pt/event/2025-01-11/en
On April 18, a court in St. Petersburg sentenced 19-year-old Darya Kozyreva to two years and eight months in prison. She was convicted for placing a piece of paper with a quote from a poem on a monument to Taras Shevchenko in St. Petersburg and for giving an interview to the Sever.Realii website. Radio Liberty reports that in her final statement, Darya said she dreams of Ukraine reclaiming all territories occupied by Russia. https://www.svoboda.org/a/darjya-kozyreva-osuzhdena-za-stihi-i-intervjyu-saytu-sever-realii/33389507.html
On April 16, politician Ilya Yashin announced on his X account the opening of a public reception office. Russians in exile can make an appointment to receive legal advice about the laws of their host country, either in person or online. https://x.com/IlyaYashin/status/1912430779344515506
On April 18, a posthumous album by pianist Pavel Kushnir, who died in Putin’s prisons, was released. The album is titled Rachmaninoff Preludes. https://open.spotify.com/album/1sTMzA8zMVJskGjfs8fE11
Today, in the Make Art Not War section of our YouTube channel, we released a video featuring a new anti-war poem by Rusya Rassvet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXMrRxZIqcY

Oil prices are getting unprofitable. "Where is Seda?" campaign. Creative section on our YouTube.
You are watching the news from the weekly rally at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is April 12, 2:30 PM.
Compared to April 2, the price of Brent crude oil has fallen by 14% and remains at $63-$65 per barrel; compared to April last year, it has fallen by 28%. https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/crude-oil
The price of Russian Urals crude oil as of February is about 12% lower than the price of Brent, about $55-57 per barrel. https://incorrys.com/energy/energy-price-forecast/brent-urals-differential/
On April 7, economic commentator Vyacheslav Shiryaev said on "The Breakfast Show" that several months of Russian oil prices below $50 per barrel will lead to the Kremlin running out of resources, because most oil wells will become unprofitable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qskojES_S1o
On April 25, the day of the bloodless revolution in Portugal, we are holding an online conference "Russia Needs April 25th". About 30 interesting speakers have already confirmed their participation. In addition to the speakers, there will be round tables in which we will generate new ideas on the main areas of work necessary for changes in Russia: philosophy and values, self-organization, change of power, allies. Vyacheslav Shiryaev has already shared interesting ideas, send yours to [email protected] and we will read the most interesting ones at the conference.
On April 10, Radio Liberty reported that two former students of Lyceum No. 82 sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for so-called "fakes about the army." In October 2023, the director of the Lyceum filed a police report against them for a YouTube video in which they talked about Russian strikes on Ukrainian schools and that Russian troops blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. https://www.svoboda.org/a/v-nizhnem-novgorode-po-delu-o-feykah-osudili-dvuh-nedavnih-uchenikov-litseya-/33381443.html
Last September, we were telling about a Chechen girl, Seda Suleimanova, who at the age of 25 run away from her relatives in Grozny to St. Petersburg. After that, her relatives kidnapped her with the help of security forces. On September 4, 2023, she was last shown alive. According to human rights defenders from the SK SOS, Seda probably became a victim of a so-called "honor killing". https://adrl.pt/event/2024-09-14/en
The girl's friend, Lena Patyaeva, is trying to draw attention to this problem and find Seda. She and other activists launched a collection of signatures, among others including a demand to introduce a dedicated definition of honor killing into Russian legislation. https://gde-seda.ru/
We consider Putin not a president, but a usurper and a war criminal, but it seems important to support self-organization inside Russia, as well as draw attention to the problem of honor killings.
And good news: we launched a creative section on our YouTube channel, and added a video with the poem "Testament-Covenant", read by the author, Rusya Rassvet. Unfortunately, due to footage of the results of the actions of Russian troops in Ukraine, YouTube set an age restriction for this video and does not want to distribute it. Help it grow: watch, like, share with your friends. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XPhaHcOinw
You can get a collection of anti-war poems by Rusya Rassvet in exchange for donations for portable power stations for hospitals and schools in Ukraine at the charity online art exhibition NET VOYNE. https://adrl.pt/net-voine/antiwar-poetry/en
