Do you think Frank had a Supernatural phase and that's why he's joking about demonic possession??? Like I bet he watched every fucking episode but kept it a secret from his jock athlete friends. And then there's Abby, who didn't watch, but knows everything there is to know about Destiel bc Frank wouldn't shut up about it. Frank daydreams about what he would do if a demonic possession ever DOES come into the ED.

Becca King's Sister
Mel has spent her whole life taking care of Becca. But when she is assaulted after a shift, she finds herself struggling to take care of Becca and herself. Frank and Dana step in to help her heal--but it's a long journey.
This story is mostly written, but I need some feedback to keep me going bc I'm getting really bogged down in some of the more emotional chapters at the end.
That scene at the end of the Pitt where Mel is kind of numb and tired just KILLED me bc someone take care of that poor burnt out woman. So this fic bloomed out of the thought "Who takes care of Mel??"

Listen I'm a certified romance enjoyer but can we get more platonic focused fics for The Pitt please. There are so many cool dynamics in the show!! Santos and Whitaker BestFriendSiblingRoomatism , Mohan and King being besties, girls night, Mckay and Javadi, Mohan and Collins, or Mohan and Whitaker, mentor-mentee moments! Robby and all his kids, Robby and Abbot (like the ship stuff is cool too, not my cup of tea, but I get it) - but them like leaning on each other and holding each other accountable was such a big part of the show! I'd love fics exploring different character's inherent biases, or everyones insane relationships with Robby due to their sundry parental issues, or a fic about Dana struggling with the aftermath of Pittfest, or Princess and Perlah gossip fic, or like anything with the nurses or doctors just like - being friends or coworkers. Langdon and Robby healing their relationship after he comes back from rehab. Santos and Langdon realizing they are the same person and finding common ground. A fic discussing why all the hot lesbians are in surgery.
There is so much potential y'all!
(This isn't like a complaint, but more of a plea. I'm even down for like background ship stuff. The ship stuff is great, but I feel like we're leaving so much meat on the bone. So much set up in the show I haven't seen explored in fic at all.)

I'm watching ER for the first time and there is a very VERY brief mention of a "Dr. Langdon" when morgenstern(?) is asking Carter about whether he wants to be on the red or blue surgical team, and I just about lost it.
Am I about to make an entire headcanon about a one-second name drop "Dr. Nancy Langdon" in ER becoming Frank Langdon mother? ...maybe

Dana, who tells Whittaker she's spent 33 years of her life working in the ER because she wants to take care of the people who fall through the cracks, looking into the eyes of Frank "you're like the kid I never wanted" Langdon and realising all at once he fell from right beneath her nose. It's a cool detail. Unrelated but does anyone sometimes feel like screaming.

This is so cute, I can totally see all of it. My favorite are the asthma and Abby actually wanting the dog.
My Abby Langdon headcanons
She’s a natural redhead.
She’s an artist. She makes money selling her art, but doesn’t have steady income.
She’s asthmatic. Frank is insane about this. At the first wheeze, he’s grabbing one of the many inhalers he has in the house.
She met Frank at a party before his first year of medical school. They’ve been together eight years, married for five.
They conceived Tanner on their honeymoon. They were going at it all week, never made it out of the hotel room.
She’s not the best cook. Frank is actually better in the kitchen.
She and Yolanda are very close. They have monthly wine nights and almost always end up complaining about Frank.
She forced Frank to see Dr. Hagan for his back pain. He insisted he could handle it on his own.
She found pills in Frank’s bag a month before he was caught at work. She tried to make excuses, but ended up telling Yolanda two days later.
She was actually excited about the dog. She’s been dropping hints about adopting for years.

Last chapter up! Thanks for reading
The Sand Pitt
Not the first fic I've written, not even the first Pitt Fic I've written, but the first one Ive posted on Tumblr because I'm really proud of it!!
What if Frank and Robby had met in the Army, eight years before canon?
AU where the boys meet in Kandahar, where Langdon is pararescue and Robby works in a combat hospital. Chapters alternate between Kandahar and PTMC, showing how their time together affects their current struggles. Yoyo is a side character also in Afghanistan with them
Whump HEAVY on both the boys after the first two chapters
Answers questions like:
How did Frank's back start hurting?
Where did Robby get his sweatshirt?
Why does Robby always rub the back of his head?
Not a full crossover, but I borrow generic set and one character from the 2011 TV show "Combat Hospital"

Dana has a stash of protein bars, some of everyone's favorites, that she buys in bulk at costco. Mel likes the all-natural macrobiotically balanced bars, which Frank says taste like cardboard. Robby likes Larabars, because for some reason that man fucking loves dates. Whittaker liked the quaker oats chewy granola bars, until Dana got him going on peanut butter and chocolate Kind bars that had a little more nutritional value. She doles them out quietly, slipping them into pockets, or sometimes loudly when she needs to make an example of someone. Being handed a protein bar by Dana can mean "I see you struggling and I'm here for you", but it can also mean "You're coming on way too strong right now, take a fucking break and come back with a better attitude."

So be an adult and don't put your shit in the ship tag, and learn to block the ship tag. Nobody cares that he's married, because his wife isn't real. Be less of a puritan. "he's married with two kids!!!" SHE'S NOT REAL, KAREN.
Let’s start with what we do know: Frank Langdon is married, with two children, and a deeply complicated sense of loyalty. He’s not just “a guy with a family” - he’s a man clinging to that family like a lifeline in a sinking world. His role as husband and father isn’t just backstory; it’s the entire framework for his emotional stakes, his quiet restraint, his hesitations in a world that constantly demands action.
Even if we're arguing about fictional characters... If we toss narrative integrity out the window just because it’s fiction, what are we even watching for?
Frank’s emotional arc isn’t about chasing new love. It’s about staying upright - choosing sobriety when everything hurts, choosing family when it would be easier to disappear, choosing not to romanticize every source of comfort. Especially Melissa.
And here’s where it gets even clearer: the actress who plays Melissa King has stated that Melisa is asexual. That’s not subtext - that’s text. Canon. It means she experiences connection differently. It means not every close relationship is a prelude to romance. It means she deserves to be seen as whole without being shoehorned into someone else’s love story.
Pairing her with Frank, a married man in active emotional crisis, doesn’t just ignore narrative logic... It disregards who she is. Mel isn’t a cure for his pain. She isn’t here to unlock his heart. She’s not a prize for his progress.
They work because they don’t burn romantically.
And that’s rare. That’s beautiful. That’s enough.
Let Frank stay married. Let Melissa stay asexual.
Let them stay friends.
The story is stronger for it.
Mel is not a manic pixie fix-it girl in a lab coat. She’s a neurodivergent woman with radiant intellect, a soft moral center. She is asexual.
That matters.
Because the second we start romanticizing her bond with Frank, we start flattening her. We turn her into a narrative sponge - there to absorb his pain, tether his spiraling, and validate his character growth through quiet devotion. But Melissa isn’t a support beam for someone else’s arc. She is the arc.
Her asexuality doesn’t make her cold or incapable of connection; quite the opposite. She connects deeply, meaningfully, and on her terms. That’s what makes her bond with Frank powerful: not a precursor to romance, but proof that intimacy doesn’t require romantic or sexual tension to be profound.
She sees Frank without needing to be in love with him.
He respects her without needing to possess her.
That’s huge, especially in a media landscape that so often equates closeness with coupling.
Trying to shift their relationship into romantic territory not only disrespects Frank’s existing commitments, it undermines Melissa’s autonomy and identity. It turns a rare, beautiful example of platonic partnership between a neurodivergent, asexual woman and a struggling father into yet another story of “man finds salvation in woman.”
In a show like The Pitt, where the air feels heavy with loss and everyone’s looking for something to hold onto, it’s tempting to see tenderness and assume it must lead to romance. But not every quiet moment is a love story. Some are lifelines. Some are boundaries held in kindness. Some are survival, not seduction.
Frank Langdon and Melisaa King share something rare on television: platonic intimacy with weight. They understand each other without needing to claim each other. They support one another without erasing their individual needs, struggles, or identities.
Frank is a man clawing his way back to the surface of his own life - sobriety, marriage, fatherhood - not looking to rewrite his story, but to repair it.
Melissa is a woman who shines despite the gloom around her, who has carved out space for herself in a world that often misunderstands her - and who, as an asexual character, deserves the right to exist without being pulled into an unnecessary romantic arc.
Shipping them does more than blur lines. It dilutes what makes their bond important. It takes two complex, richly drawn characters and asks them to follow a well-worn path that neither of them are built for.
So let them remain what they are: Not lovers.
Because sometimes the bravest thing two people can be, in fiction or in life, is just friends.
❤️
