Does anything special happen when an exorcist dies or do they just become a normal ghost?

exorcists can become ghosts just like everyone else, but the consequence of such poses far greater immediate danger than a standard ghost manifestation. exorcist souls are sort of built differently from regular souls, which is what allows them to interact with the spectral plane; however being preloaded with a ton of spectral energy sort of turns their souls into a supercharged battery for ghosts, which is why eating them causes the birth of dangerous nightmare/demon classes. exorcist ghosts aren’t nightmare or demon class by default — they’re kind of their own class until they start eating other ghosts — but most cases of those classes manifesting were the result of an exorcist’s ghost that was left unchecked.

there are a lot of measures exorcists put in place to minimize the risk of having extreme regrets and becoming a ghost — meditation, talismans, rituals, etc — but they are ultimately only human, so it can’t always be avoided.

TIME FOR MERMAY!!!!! i designed a merfolk design for pazu two years ago but decided to redo it to fit the narrative that he is a kraken who torments one sailor in particular and revels in the fact that everyone thinks theo is crazy for insisting pazu exists
