I was teaching kids today and they got fixated on the usual ‘are they dead now?’ question when I was talking about historical figures. So I was just like ‘Yes, they’re dead now, everyone who was alive in the 1800s is dead now.’ and then one kid was like ‘Except for you’.

Kpop Demon Hunters is everything I ever wanted in a movie. Quite literally everything I love: kpop, animation, an underlying Catholic moral theme about the nature of sin, shame, and how only love can overcome hate, did I mention it’s a musical?
#kpop demon hunters#best movie of the year?#MY movie of the year#kpop#yes I can make most movies relate to themes of Catholicism❤️#because God is love and if you want to divine the true essence of humanity it rests in His truth#and love is a common theme in most media#either way this movie is a major win#9/10#no notes#okay 1 note but it’s minor hence the 9/10#almost perfect#and nothing can be perfect so it’s practically perfect in every way

watching a movie at home circa like, 2001 was like
put your TV on channel 2 so the VCR will work
open up the clamp shell case that held the VHS that has that satisfying crrlikkkkkk
put in the movie
gdi it has to be rewound
press STOP and then rewind because its so much faster that way
start the movie and it takes a few seconds for the movie to actually start cause you rewound to the VERY beginning
FBI will get you if you illegally distribute or exhibit this movie
and then. because you forgot that movies are always so much louder than TV
COMING SOON TO OWN ON VIDEO AND DVD
QUICK LOWER THE VOLUME LOWER THE VOLUME LOWER THE VOLUME OH FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay crisis averted.
although. these ads are kind of quiet. a little hard to hear.....
better turn up the volume...
THX
#and it happened EVERY TIME#the childhood memory#vhs#I always put it on super rewind so it’d go faster and I didn’t have to hold the button#wild we used to rewind movies like that#the casings were beautiful though

nobody told me that apothecary diaries was actually FIRE at writing romance!??!? like omg- i cant even describe how good it is. like usually with animes and romance it kinda seems a little forced into the spotlight or just forgotten and then suddenly shows up but its done really well here?? like the progression of feelings is actually natural, everyone realizing the relationship between them is really nice as well?? not to mention that theyre ACTUALLY LIKEABLE. LIKE HOLY SHIT- the amount of animes that have an unlikable love interest is actually lowkey insane. or just a love interest that does have ANYTHING to do with the MC until the last moment. this is so good omgomgomg i want moreee

Sometimes I have to remind my dad that he’s a master furniture maker and most people do not possess encyclopedic knowledge of European and American furniture styles and the history of wood glue

I adore this recent trend (if that's the right word) of letting an orchestra play classical music on a festival. It's magical to see thousands of festival-goers going absolutely wild on Beethoven. Mosh/circlepits, crowd surfing. It's wonderful to see the orchestra and the audience having the time of their lives.

I find the fact that the closest mountain point on earth to the moon, the highest mountain and the tallest mountain are 3 different mountains to be a tiny bit disturbing

Jinshi’s struggle

One small addition I did like from this latest episode was this brief break in Jinshi’s facade as he sees the stronghold beginning to collapse. I’d like to believe he’s thinking about Maomao. What if she’s inside? What if she’s in danger? She could be hurt or worse. It’s the moment he bursts forth, his face pained, straining to get into the building alone, forgetting his place as head of the guard that shows his concern for her. And then Lihaku calls out to him.

There’s a moment of irritation, of consideration. He wants to go in that building immediately, he doesn’t want to be detained but he knows this isn’t the time and so his mask of the Moon Prince slips back into place.

He returns to being Ka Zuigetsu and makes the rational case for why they should go into the building. It’s not the brazen, heart over head way but he still gets to rescue Maomao in the end, I just think this glimpse at how tense he is underneath is key.
#Jinshi fascinates me#master of masks#or is he simply trying his best in a world that would take him down the second the weaknesses of his true self is revealed?#many thoughts#the apothecary diaries#kusuriya no hitorigoto#jinshi

I was today years old. That is disgusting.
No Child Left Behind is one of the worst things to ever be incentivized in schools. It was signed into law when I was 14. Reading Rainbow was my show as a kid. LeVar Burton played a big part in why I became an avid reader to date. The joy of it. It's an adventure around the globe and through different time periods without stepping on a plane or time machine.
Children parrot behavior. In grade school, I always wanted to read the same amount of books as my teachers (50 books) and managed to double that each year. Before No Child Left Behind, book fairs and Scholastic catalogs were a serious matter like your grandma's Fingerhut catalogs. Libraries were (and still are) a wonderland.
Reading comprehension and proficiency in schools has been declining for decades. A crisis. The joy of books isn't pushed anymore and I'm always saddened by it. It's one of the reasons why I post my book reviews and recommendations on here, as well as posts from others to encourage reading and (novel) writing. Kids will parrot your behavior while the education system sadly fails to return as that example.

Any conspiracy theory about people going missing in National Parks is automatically silly to me. Like "Why are National Parks such a hotbed of disappearances???" because they're full of idiots. You've got thousands of people who've never pissed outdoors in their life wandering around the woods/desert/mountain with zero experience and zero gear and zero understanding that this place can kill them. You don't see as many disappearances in wild areas because people don't go to them unless they have some background knowledge. Whereas you get tour buses full of old folks and suburban families shuttling people into National Parks 365 days a year. If you took the same amount of buffoons and dropped them in the actual wilderness the disappearances would be significantly higher than at the parks. Use your brain.
#lots of good information here#can’t stop thinking about the scottish person in the tags#best part of the post#funny#parks
