So, you know how all Pokemon eggs, regardless of species, look identical? Well! It's a survival mechanism.
It would allow abandoned eggs to still have a chance of hatching by being found by mothers and decrease the chances of eggs of differing species being kicked from a nest and killed.
There are still very subtle differences between different Pokemon eggs, most drastically between different egg groups, but usually, only professionals can differentiate different eggs.
