Welcome to Ailurocide: a slow-to-update story initially inspired by the Warriors series by Erin Hunter, lending themes from other fantastical animal works such as Watership Down by Richard Adams, Tailchaser’s Song by Tad Williams, the Wings of Fire series by Tui T. Sutherland, and the Guardians of Ga’hoole by Kathryn Lasky, alongside the Fallout games.

Working on my novel and couldn’t figure out why it felt so empty. I didn’t have any filler. It was all 100% plot. The characters only interacted when necessary. I didn’t prattle on about the scenery or how the birds sounded. I had all my fuller stuff that I loved saved in another file because I “didn’t need it”.
Y’all, I knew this existed in TV shows but it didn’t hit me until this that everything is being whittled down. We are so starving for filler that we snap up anything. I unload all mine on Tumblr or keep it in a massive Google Docs. It SUCKS.
Honestly? Death to plot necessity. Revive filler. Revive unnecessary interactions. Revive just vibing with characters sometimes. I don’t want to just consume the plot and I don’t want to just create the plot either.

Resources For Writing Deaf, Mute, or Blind Characters
Despite the fact that I am not deaf, mute, or blind myself, one of the most common questions I receive is how to portray characters with these disabilities in fiction.
As such, I’ve compiled the resources I’ve accumulated (from real life deaf, mute, or blind people) into a handy masterlist.
Deaf Characters:
Deaf characters masterpost
Deaf dialogue thread
Dialogue with signing characters (also applies to mute characters.)
A deaf author’s advice on deaf characters
Dialogue between deaf characters
Mute Characters
Life as a Mute
My Silent Summer: Life as a Mute
What It’s Like Being Mute
21 People Reveal What It’s Really Like To Be Mute
I am a 20 year old Mute, ask me anything at all!
Blind Characters:
The 33 Worst Mistakes Writers Make About Blind Characters.
@referenceforwriters masterpost of resources for writing/playing blind characters.
The youtube channel of the wonderful Tommy Edison, a man blind from birth with great insight into the depiction of blind people and their lives.
An Absolute Write thread on the depiction of blind characters, with lots of different viewpoints and some great tips.
And finally, this short, handy masterpost of resources for writing blind characters.
Characters Who Are Blind in One Eye
4 Ways Life Looks Shockingly Different With One Eye
Learning to Live With One Eye
Adapting to the Loss of an Eye
Adapting to Eye Loss and Monocular Vision
Monocular Depth Perception
Deaf-Blind Characters
What Is It Like To Be Deafblind?
Going Deaf and Blind in a City of Noise and Lights
Deaf and Blind by 30
Sarita is Blind, Deaf, and Employed (video)
Born Deaf and Blind, This Eritrean American Graduated Harvard Law School (video)
A Day of a Deaf Blind Person
Lesser Known Things About Being Deafblind
How the Deaf-Blind Communicate
Early Interactions With Children Who Are Deaf-Blind
Raising a DeafBlind Baby
If you have any more resources to add, let me know! I’ll be adding to this post as I find more resources.
I hope this helps, and happy writing! <3

So, an important thing to note about me: I absolutely suck at making maps lol
In an attempt to skirt around this somewhat, I found an IRL map of the area surrounding the Great Bear Lake in Canada (as what y’all will see of Ailurocide’s story takes place here, albeit several hundreds of thousands of years in the future; I wanted someplace relatively close to an ocean, while also being very mountainous) and even color-picked the green-and-orange tones off of that image. Unfortunately I seemed to have gotten rid of the base map, otherwise I would also share that, but I also want to share something that I only recently noticed of my map:
The colors are flipped incorrectly. Orange is meant to be the highest height color 😀
Another important thing to note about me: I am an idiot, and I am SO sorry for the confusion shrouding that-
In terms of the water features throughout, those are indeed lakes and rivers! They’re a bit too wide, however.
Do keep in mind that this was just the very first, and a very rough attempt at a map, as I wanted to just at least have a landmass in mind when plotting things out, as travel is a huge portion of the story.
Here’s a look at the rough map for where our story takes place!

This is very basic, and made in Inkarnate with the tools offered. I plan to draw it out, myself, and add tons more detail… but I wanted to share this one, at least, so y’all can take a look and speculate on some things ;)
Entirely label-less, as well, to really get y’all’s minds working on where things are ^^
