after this most recent ep, yeah I feel like they really going into goodeburn being a rape kid and his relationship with his abuser and his father. The fact that he is a teenager is also a surprise, tho.
gozyuger: the story about humanity, even though hardships
Lets talk Gozyuger
if you're a follow me for my non-sentai stuff, hello caliburn, I hope this interests you to watch the show.
Tumblr media
I've been loving Gozyuger, something I wasn’t expecting when going into the show, but I feel like episode 15 is the episode that truly made me love it. Gozyuger is a story of what makes us human, and, in turn, how that can’t be taken away. Let me explain;
Tumblr media
To get why Gozyugers is an exploration of humanity, you first need to understand what Gozyugers is about. Gozyuger, in the simplest terms, is a god governed battle royal to activate your wish. Everyone who is chosen by Tegasword, the god himself, is to have a wish that you’re willing to risk everything to be active (for the most part, we get to that). But, a key part of this battle royal is that everybody who is part of it realizes they have a power that they can use to help and protect others, and will put that first. This element shows an important part of the universal warriors and our main characters down the line, even though they all have their own wants and dreams, they are still humans at the end of the day. The wishes are the core of what the Gozyugers are about; it is what drives all our characters and what defines them, but it is also what makes them different from the villains.
Tumblr media
One of the new things we learned in this week's episode was that the No1s are AI, they generate, and the things they number 1 at, is false truths. We see time and time again that the No1s can’t truly understand their concepts and have to use tricks and deserve humans by preying on their wants, almost like a parasite. The No1s are meant to be a poor reflection of the universal warriors. when the universal warriors are humans with their own wants and dreams fighting for those dreams, the No1s are beings with an agender using others' wants to activate that, just like AI.
And that kinda the point isn’t it, the villains in Gozyuger are all trying to take away the humanity of others, they lack the true passion that makes us human. Let's talk about tagajune and Kuon, and theming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both June and Kuon use love to use others as a form of control, so it makes perfect sense that to them, marriage, a moment meant to show how much you truly love someone, is used as the ultimate form of abuse. Taking away consent.
Tumblr media
Yeah, I was edging towards it this whole time, but let's talk about this. As I mentioned, to June and Kuon, love is a tool for abuse, and in episode 15, that element is on full display as put characters decided to twist some of the purist ways to show love as the ultimate for abuse.
Let's start with June because she is simply way more straightforward to break down here. In the scene I have screenshot above is June raping tegasword. This whole scene, this whole fight, is sword fighting desperately to get away from June, to not get married, because to get married is to end the world. But I feel like the deeper interpretation of this and how it relates back to the fact that June is an AI. This scene is AI wanting to take humanity's passion, the thing that makes us human, our wishes. In this scene, an AI and abuser finally get what they wanted: control and human passion. In that scene, humanity (sword) is weak and can no longer fight back, so they take it, no longer being able to fight back, and in the end, it creates a truly destructive force. This scene relates the two elements the villains represent (ai and abuse) and connects it in a way that, depending on which element you are focusing on, is seen as taking away what makes you human. And well, June part is way more AI heavy, Kuon is way more abuse heavy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like Ms. Sweet Cake and Mr. Shining Knife describe him well here:
Tumblr media
So, to explain the proposal scene, Kuon doesn't want to marry Hoeru, he is saying he wants to control him, treat him like another toy, because that is the only way he can get power back into his own life, by controlling others. And I feel like this scene is the perfect embodiment of that:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To wear a ring on the right index finger symbolizes your drive and independence, so when Kuon takes Hoeru's ring, he is literally taking away Hoeru's independence and putting him under his control. But to bring this all back to how Gozyuger is a story about humanity, Gozyuger is a show that shows humans are multifaceted, complex beings with their own wants. The story as a whole is two different conflicts: one to test our humanity in the form of our universal warriors, and the other to show that no matter what, you are still human in the form of Braidan.

This is kinda dark, the idea that these two characters can't do anything but comfort each other and acknowledge the pain of their birth.

I guess I’m in a posting mood where I post crack posts, theories and takes. I have way more. But I’m talking about descendants right now.
I hate people that hate on mal. NOW, she did do a lot of fucked up stuff. Drugging someone and attempting to erase their memories is wrong. I’m not denying that nor am I excusing her actions.
However, Auradon doesn’t know how to handle mental health. All their people are happy and well adjusted. As far as we know, they all had good parents and happy childhoods.
The isle (at least in the books) had vicious child abuse. Carlos was locked in a room filled with bear traps and had to get furs. Evie obviously grew up with huge insecurities due to her mom’s thing on looks. I think Jay slept on the floor (though out of all of them I think he had the best parent. Not an award because you’re the best of the worst, but whatever). Mal’s mom was constantly manipulating her and controlling her. She created this narrative for mal. Love is evil and weak, people not inviting you is slighting you, you have to be the strongest on the isle, your mother’s daughter. The books went into more detail and it’s been a while since I read the book, so excuse my mis-remembering.
But the isle was not a fun place and aurdon is so, they don’t deal with mental health issues. So none of the vk kids have dealt with that.
So when we start at d2 it’s been six months and they just threw mal into that position. They gave her no time to adjust, put all their stuff on her (blonde hair vs. purple) and just expected her to be okay with it.
Now, a child with a parent that forces them to try and be the best and puts all their worth on impressing people for love (aka mal and her mom’s whole situation) is going to carry that even when realizing their mom sucks. So they put mal into a huge amount of responsibility maybe six months later without any sort of therapy or support system, because the isle kids are messed up and the aurodan kids aren’t so they don’t know how to help. So magic becomes her sort of safety net.
Her friends and Ben obviously love her. That’s true, but from what we’re shown in the beginning of the movie, they aren’t helping with the pressure. Evie is trying to have her give up magic and Ben is giving her gifts and helping the paparazzi but none of them are actually getting to the root cause. No one is helping lift the pressure she’s putting on herself. No one seems to even notice that that’s the problem.
Mal is trying so hard to be perfect and what everyone wants her to be, so she’s using spells to help her. She wants them to know she’s trying and she wants to love her. She might know they do, but it’s unconscious at this point. She was sixteen in the first movie. So she’s like seventeen. This is something in her mind, ingrained for sixteen years. They gave her less than six months to undo that herself.
Obviously her actions are not justified or right, but saying she’s evil and awful when what happened was a very traumatized teenager who was shoved into responsibility she wasn’t ready for, snapped, is also wrong. She’s not right, but her snapping was inevitable. This entire thing could’ve been solved had her friends and loved ones talked things out with her. If they could see the stress before it boiled over. Maybe it was because of it being a movie but her stress wasn’t really hidden. Maybe from Ben, but from Evie? This could’ve been solved had they intervened or had aurodan grew a brain and realized villain kids aren’t evil but they sure are messed up.

Also, once again thinking about the beautiful anti AI message of Gozyuger
Thinking about the fact that the villains are called No Ones and they come from No One World, where everything is a shallow imitation copy of our world - literally implying that a copy (as in, a copy made from AI or an AI assistant that is pretending to be human) is literally no one. It can never be someone, it can never be a person - as much as your ChatGPT 'bestie' or your c.ai 'boyfriend' feel like real people, they do not have a soul, a personality - they do not have the thing that makes them Someone, so they will always be a No One.
Thinking about how all of the No Ones need to consume some form of human life in order to survive on our planet, unable to exist as a shadowy copy on their own without harvesting off of true humanity first.
Thinking about the fact that Rygui broke the Manners No One with kindness, because AI cannot truly grasp human kindness and love - it can only run down an established list of written etiquette rules and repeat them back, and truly doesn't know how to respond to the idea of true human kindness.
Thinking about how Kinjiro broke the Showa No One by demonstrating that he has a healthy love for modern technology while maintaining his personal nostalgia - because it genuinely is such an important message in an Anti AI show to go 'hey, times without technology weren't All That and having a healthy but not completely dependent relationship on technology is way better' - instead of just writing off all modern technology as evil.
(Excuse me while I go sob somewhere thinking about how good this show is.)

There's a lot to say about the themes of control in Gozyuger. I think that episode 15 highlights some interesting points. First off, Tega June aims to make the world to be perfect but perfection is subjective. It seems more that Tega June harbors a need for control over others and power to wield to assert this control. She frames this as a way for people to be happy (as Bouquet believes it to be this way), but in the previews the people we know are changed. They don't have the same lives or personalities, and it's as if they could never fit into her definition of perfection. It's said to be for their happiness, but how is this possible when they had no say in this change?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there's the fact that she forces the marriage between her and Tega Sword. He explicitly does not consent to the union, but Tega June does not care bc all she wants is control and she wishes to exert it through what she calls "love", but is nothing of the sort. It is a selfish and horrendous act in which she only wishes for herself and her desires. Kuon assists her in this due to his devotion to Tega June and his own desires to see Hoeru suffer and Tega June getting her wish. He says at the beginning of the episode that he doesn't care about anything but the rings and I feel that in a way it is true, however I also feel Kuon's situation is far more complicated and there's so much still left to unpack with him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like Kuon resonates with Tega June due to his desire for control as well. For Kuon, it's more of a personal thing. I've talked about this before here, but Kuon does have a lot of resentment towards himself and other things that he tends to put on Hoeru.
Side note: This is also something Karuma has talked about briefly in saying he feels that things go deeper with Kuon:
"In my mind, Kuon... I believe that Tono Hisamitsu was quite close to Hoeru in the past, but there have been many depictions that give off the feeling that he's insane. I'm playing the role with the understanding that behind his love, there's also a considerable amount of hatred and resentment being hidden away. I have a feeling that Kuon holds such negative feelings not only for Hoeru, but also about a variety of other things."
[Source]
Kuon has made small jabs here and there that imply that he views Hoeru as an imitation of himself, and has said he wants to control Hoeru. I feel in a way that this is due to feeling he has no control over himself or his life, which is likely linked to his relationship with Tega June and the mark across his back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kuon even states in this episode that his life is Tega June's and not his own. He alludes to an event happening which lead up to all of this, and this also was something he seemed to hint at prior when he talked about how him changing was caused by Hoeru. It may be that Kuon thinks he would have control over himself and he'd have things to care about and would have had a better life if not for Hoeru, but at the same time he also blames himself. He was a child when he ended up in another world with Hoeru, but bc he was the older one he had to look out for Hoeru. He was just a kid, but Kuon remembers himself as weak and naive and he hates it. He hates the person he was and is so angry but can't really figure out where to put his feelings. In reality it's easier to blame Hoeru for Kuon. It's easier to not see Hoeru as his own person bc if he faces what happened to him fully it might be too much and he won't let himself be weak.

and that is how you kill a show as soon at the height of it popularity
Let’s review the facts here:
- you take a beloved character who has survived for seven seasons
-who has found LOVE and FAMILY and the WILL TO LIVE after losing his first family in a truly horrendous way
- he finds a wife, stepkids, a pseudo son and friends in his team and outside it
- last season, you had him survive and fucking cruise ship sinking with his wife AND a heart attack after being dead for 13 minutes
- this season, you introduce some of his old family, reiterate his importance in THIS family and team FROM EPISODE ONE by showing how much they need him as Captain, have him start to build a house with his wife, their dream house
-AND THEN NOT ONLY do you kill this character out of the blue, for not fucking reason other than your supposed “realism” in a show that’s NEVER cared about that before
-you decide for shits and giggles to play with your audience by A. Leaking fake scripts saying he’s not dead B. LEAKING the funeral scene weeks before it airs only for the funeral itself to be five fucking minutes AND C. MAKE THE ENTIRE EPISODE NOT ABOUT THE BELOVED CHARSCTER WHO DIED, but about a stupid B plot to the audience basically LAUGHING at us for thinking and hoping he is not dead
-AND NOT ONLY THAT. BUT YOU DO NOT GIVE THAT FAMILY WHO LOVES HIM THE TIME TO MOURN. You drag back in one character from states away who found out OFFSCREEN for five minutes, you give everyone else who loves him less time than an old fucker who barely knew him and give THAT fucker a whole speech????
What the FUCK is happening does Tim Minear not understand just how badly he’s fucked up???? HOW could he think this is a good idea. You are taking the show KNOWN for found family and comforting relationships and tearing them all to peices week by fucking week. What is wrong with him???

I hear y'all with "DC should stop making Oliver a billionaire again, he gives his money away and hates being a billionaire" and I have a counter point: Use Oliver as a In-Universe show case of how the rich keep getting money.
It's a critic on todays day and age about how the number one percent keep getting richer - even if they DON'T need it or want the opposite
Also I think it's funny plaguing Oliver with him constantly trying to give away money/stop being a billionaire without affecting people negatively except any time he does any progress on losing money, he gains even MORE from other ventures he Can't back out of or if he can it will take a while
Idk I just think it would be funny

Having grown up going to mostly white schools y’all can realise why my eyes start physically twitching when I see fucked up takes on racism
Y’all do not understand how many times irl poc have heard that “it wasn’t that bad”, “maybe he didn’t mean it that way” , “oh he’s going through xyz” shit in our lives and it shows
White people will be the death of me I fear but it will be purely through abhorrent takes😔💔
(Just saw a post where they went through everything Tommy said or did in the chimney and hens begins episodes and made an excuse for it- saying shit like maybe he thought chimney was actually the delivery guy - despite the fact man’s was lugging a big ads lafd bag and it it had been a white man that question would never have been asked- or maybe he was thinking xyz in this scenario)
Also straight people😔
Straight people may also be the death of me cos the post after it was abt how buck deserved to be left outside the restaurant and it’s the consequences of his own actions and one of the replies was abt how buck deserved to have tommy not agree or answer to the coffee date but tommy gave him a second chance
Like I beg y’all to realise that buck wasn’t just being quirky little guy and saying that for no reason no he was genuinely going through something this is his first queer experience and his best friend crashes it in a public setting what did Tommy expect, he was going through something which tommy should’ve understood and handled better than leaving him on the curb and anyone who says otherwise is either straight and has no idea what queer experiences are like or they are queer but so blurred by their own singular experience that they can’t perceive the other perspective

The university I used to attend was a gateway to hope and light for me. It was the place where I strived to achieve my dreams and build my future. But the war in Gaza spared nothing. The destruction that befell the university was devastating; its buildings are no longer standing, and the lecture halls I once sat in are now rubble. It’s as if the dream I worked so hard for collapsed with every wall that fell and every book lost under the ruins.💔
Tumblr media
My life and future have been shattered in ways beyond words. All the efforts I put into my years of study no longer seem to matter. I had hoped to complete my education and secure a job that would help me build a decent life, but now all I see ahead is emptiness. There are no job opportunities, and the situation worsens by the day. Life is no longer the same, and each day I feel the weight of destruction not only around me but within me as well.😢
Tumblr media
The war didn’t just take away our homes and livelihoods; it also stole our dreams and ambitions.💔
🚨🚨🚨📣📣📣
Please stand by me and my family to help us escape this dark nightmare and achieve the dream I have always dreamed of.🙏💔

So much of the time we think of historical cultures as being very uniform, but people have always been weird, and our expectations of past behaviour don't always match the reality!
