Childhood Memories.

(Akutagawa x reader)

Genre: Hurt/comfort(?), reader grew up with akutagawa, maybe ooc, this is kinda bad ngl

You walked through the busy streets of Yokohama, trying to get to your second job on time. It wasn’t easy, of course, especially when you didn’t have a car, or the money to spend on public transportation.

Suddenly, you see an uncannily familiar face amongst the crowd. There’s no way.

“Akutagawa?!” You yell, trying to catch up with him. He had always been a lot quicker than you, albeit more stubborn.

The man in black turns around, his eyes widening as he sees you. “W-who are you?” He asks shakily.

“Akutagawa we both know the answer to that question.”

“(Y/n)…. You made it…” He seems surprised. But… there’s something different about you.”

His usually rough voice is now quiet and confused. He takes your hand and leads you into an alleyway, as to not get bumped by other people on the sidewalk.

“I was never the same after the day you left.” You say.

The alleyway is dark, but with him, it feels cold as well. Like a long since burnt out candle.

“What…?” He asks quietly. For once, he’s feeling that same coldness. Not a chill, no. The feeling of something that was once warm.

“I was watching, you know. The day you got scouted by the port mafia. I watched him take you away from me.” You say, voice uneasy.

Your second job must have started long ago. There’s no use trying to make it now. You stare up at Akutagawa, the sun setting, enveloping the sky in red and yellow.

“You… saw…”

He suddenly pulls you in for a hug. This greatly surprises you.

“I’m so sorry..” He says. “I’m so sorry…”

“It’s okay, Akutagawa. I could never be mad at you. I love you too much.”

This surprises him. It had never even occurred to him that he could be loved.

“(Y/n)… I love you too.”

Let’s start this off with some headcanons.

As Akutagawa’s number one adorer, you always make him feel special in every way you can. He will take a little while to show it, but he loves the attention.

You cook for him, no matter your skill level. Not what he asks for, no. What he secretly wants but won’t admit. He’ll wonder how you read his mind so well.

Akutagawa just wants validation. You are here to provide it! And in return he will gently and shyly hold your hand when he gets comfortable.

You melt his icy cold heart lol

“Hello Ryu!” You say, standing in front of him.

Lord, it’s five in the morning. What are you doing at his apartment door?

“Hello… why are you here so early? You know I have work in like… an hour.”

Akutagawa works long hours and barely returns to his apartment at a reasonable time anymore. You noticed this, and planned things out very thoroughly to make sure you could get ahold of him. Getting up at 4:30 to walk to his apartment, bringing a basket full of tasty figs, and a big bright smile to boot.

“I came to make you pancakes. Fig pancakes.” You say, voice full of determination.

“But… it’s so… early…” You woke up just for me? He asks softly, not quite sure why anyone would want to interact with him in the morning.

“Aww Ryu, it’s because I love you!” You set your basket down and hug him.

He’s not even surprised anymore. You’re always hugging him. After a long day of work, after sleeping over, after seeing him in the grocery store.

“My… my little ray of sunshine. Thats what you are.” He says, letting the tiniest smile break through his usually cold mask.

“And you’re my… um… my rain cloud?” You chuckle. “And you know what rays of sunshine and rain clouds make?”

“Um… no?”

“Rainbows!” You say cheerfully. “Now let me in so I can cook you the best fig pancakes ever in your life!”

Akutagawa stared at you in disbelief. There you were, sitting at your coffee table at three in the morning eating ramen, and drinking lemonade. Why that combination? He would never understand.

You two started living together about a year after Dazai left him. Sure, his temper was less than ideal but after a few months he warmed up to you.

“What are you doing up so late…” he said with a little bit of judgement in his voice.

“Sleep is for the weak, ramen is for the strong.” You said, sounding quite tired. “But I think I miscalculated how much sesame oil to put in and now all I taste is sesame.”

“With lemonade…?” He asked dubiously, tapping his fingers on the kitchen counter.

The night was dark and the only light on was the one mounted over the kitchen sink, casting long shadows across the furniture.

“Yes, with lemonade. You told me not to go shopping today, therefore we are out of Sprite.”

He chuckles. “You would drink anything with ramen wouldn’t you. If I gave you some muddy water you’d have it with ramen.” He paused for a moment. “If you come back to sleep I’ll tuck you in.”

“Really?” You asked. He never did stuff like this. You counted your lucky stars and stood up, leaving the ramen bowl to be cleaned up in the morning. “Sounds like a deal to me.”
