Seems someone beat me to the answer x)
I need assistance with chemistry
I’m sorry for bothering y’all, but I’m having some serious issues with my chemistry homework, and I’m not friends with any smart people here at school yet. My professor went home and the tutoring center is closed, so you guys are my last resort, since google isn’t helpful at all.
Here’s the problem:
“ A sample of vinaigrette salad dressing has a total mass of 188 g, a total volume of 196 cm3, and consists only of oil (density = 0.894 g/cm3) and vinegar (density = 1.056 g/cm3). What is the volume of each component in this mixture? Assume that the volumes are additive.”
I have no idea where to even start. Help?

One molecule of water and one molecule of ice are exactly the same thing and both would have a Relative Molecular Mass of 18. However, as someone already mentioned, ice forms into a lattice structure that is less dense than water, this is due to the polar nature of water molecules. Another thing to consider is that you can have something called “Heavy water”. The water molecules in heavy water do actually weigh slightly more than those of normal water, this is because they have a different heavier form of hydrogen within the molecule. However, the solid state (ice) of heavy water is still the same mass as the liquid form. The final thing I can say on this is that how heavy something is or how much it weighs is dependent on gravity. Ice on Mars will always weigh less than ice on Earth. Weight can change depending on gravity but the mass will always stay the same.
Hey science side of tumblr
Which is heavier: ice or water?

A very basic explanation for this is that on the molecular level ice has a rigid lattice structure. Water doesn’t have this ordered lattice structure and it sometimes takes a little bit of extra energy to persuade the molecules to adopt the rigid lattice structure of ice. (The energy was provided when he turned the water upside down)

Mine is ATPsynthase <3
Instead of spirit animals, can we have spirit proteins?
Because I think I found mine. Meet kinesin!

On the one hand I like that somebody felt it was important to graffiti it on the wall but on the other hand I really hated my physical chemistry class that was required for my major

ATPsynthase is the enzyme involved in the production of ATP from ADP. It is the world’s smallest motor and during ATP synthesis the rotor rotates 150 times a second. It is because of ATPsynthase that our body is able to produce its own body weight in ATP synthase everyday which is what allows us to have enough energy to get through the day.

ATP Synthase bitches.

A photo of Fuligo septica commonly known as dog vomit slime mould, this thing will slowly move around looking for food. Slime molds used to be thought of as fungi as they use spores like fungi do. However, slime molds do not have a cell wall as fungi do and are instead made up of loads of individual protists working together.

A photo of one of the labs similar to the one I currently study in at university. (I think I am a few floors down, no doubt I’ll move up to these labs later on in my degree!)

Photos of my time at Exeter College a year ago now. I quite often reminice about my time there, but my life at university is also pretty damn good. I think it is important that I appreciate this moment in life, for no doubt one day I will miss it!
