Freedom is always at the beginning, not something to achieve. It's a state of mind. To be the best friend, teacher, lover and sister, I aim to walk my talk the best way possible . So I'm excited, (but also feel a little heart broken to be leaving the incomparable Newcastle community) about taking a mini- sabbatical. This will happen after my upcoming yoga adventure retreat at the end of June in Exmouth. I'll be staying in the West for a few months. For sunsets, bonfires and star gazing. I'm stoked about this, because for me this journey ‘outward’ is a journey inward. Closer towards you, towards us. Because we're not separated. (Did you know that?) I integrate and move closer to becoming whole. Which is a wink scary for sure, and doesn't mean I'm becoming perfect, but I open to what life is gifting me so abundantly. Krishnamurti writes, 'In oneself lies the whole world and if you know how to look and learn, the door is there and the key is in your hand. Nobody on earth can give you either the key or the door to open, except yourself.' I go with that.

Dawn in reflection. Grateful for living in this incredible country, giving me the many opportunities to ride the sweet (and wild) undulations of life. Yesterday I taught one of my fascia vinyasa yoga workshops to a lush group of yoga teachers, manual therapists, health workers and yoga students. And I'm still feeling exhilarated about the appetite and bright eyes, the fascia health and healing sciences were soaked up with. And we're just at the beginning of this alluring field of inner space explorations... I feel endless gratitude for being a eternal space traveller...it makes me so so happy. ''Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting. , said Mr. Bowie Thank you. #newhorizons #FasciaVinyasa #yoga #nofilter (at Nelson Bay, New South Wales)

“You must only undo. The more you undo, the more you are and the more things come to you. Don’t try to become; you are.” - Vanda Scaravelli This way of practicing is like a homecoming to the body and a evolutionary remembrance of where our yoga practice originated from: the breath. It’s a way into understanding how the body holds habits and patterns and how to refine our attention and how to rediscover completeness in being and movement with more presence, curiosity and joy. Since I met Diane Long, Vanda's student for almost 25 years, for the first time this approach has been infusing not just my yoga practice and teaching, but everything I do. The way I cook, wash dishes, speak, learn, surf and make love. It’s about freedom. It’s about listening to and trusting my intuition. ... read more on the blog www.bit.ly/scaravelliyogafascia (link in bio) Newcastle friends: See you tomorrow at @yogaloftnewcastle for my workshop 'Fascia Vinyasa - Where Science meets the Soul' [o] @pete_longworth @wanderlustausnz #fluidcore #fasciayoga #scaravelliinspired

Apart from crazy interesting underwater landscapes and journeys - since I can remember - in my dreams, meditations, through unexpected gifts and in the past decade through yoga, the elephant has been meeting me over and over again. In yoga Ganesha is known as the “remover of obstacles.” He is the power to remove any obstacle, whether it is physical or spiritual, from the path of his devotees. 'Gan' means group. The universe is a group of atoms and a variety of energies. Ganesha symbolises the consciousness that pervades all and brings order in this universe. The principle qualities of elephants are wisdom and effortlessness. The enormous head of an elephant signifies wisdom and knowledge. Elephants don't walk around obstacles, neither are they stopped by them. They simply remove them and walk ahead (which reminds me of how many Germans go through life) – signifying effortlessness. So, when we remember Lord Ganesha - when you see a statue, photo or chant a mantra (Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha) - these elephant qualities within us are kindled and we take on these qualities. Today - right now to be precise (which may be the reason why I am awake since 2 am) , 108 tonnes of Ivory are burned in Kenya to stand up and stop the Ivory trade – thanks in part to people around the world speaking out and encouraging friends and family never to buy or accept ivory. This destructive trade can only be ended if it can no longer operate in the shadows. Join me: #jointheheard. When you #JoinTheHerd, you help to make this the first-ever “Year of the Elephant.” The year we stop the ivory trade. And the year when more elephants are born than killed by poachers. Let’s help to make this vision a reality. Take your yoga off the mat into the world. 🐘 #yogaoffthemat #findyourtruenorth #ganesha

Getting into saltwater daily over the past few weeks has been a generous reminder that I'm living a life beyond my humble imaginations. Sometimes my heart goes astray and forgets. My head too busy and caught up with 'keeping up' . But mama ocean brings me back to what's important. My feet are my roots, my fins and my eyes to the world. My hands are my messenger. My voice is my truth, that I trust to find its most clear expressions. My body and soul cannot feel more complete when bathed in the sea. In exploring the pulsating waves within the matrix of my tissues, fluids and brain activities, I can see the same clear space. Turbulence and calm moving in a wonderful dance that I can choose to ride or fight. I ride. Here is fear and here is freedom. Here is just the moment as it is. La vie est belle. Life is beautiful. Das Leben ist schön. #lustforlife #yogaexplorations #oceanlove [o] @wanderlustfest

Again, I'm writing about the moon. A few years ago I was simply in awe of its brightness, when walking through the desert camp at night and it's great effects on the ocean. That was all. But now, it's mysterious energy got me. It's proving its power to me time and time again. Risen before dawn, I sat at the shore for hours this morning, absorbing light and listening to the still messages. Today's full moon in Scorpio is calling for making a change, walking through fear and embracing a whole new range of experiences. It focuses on the urgent commitment to ourselves, on our own growth and evolution and navigating the shadow dance with as much consciousness as we can give into . “…This full moon is at the midpoint of Saturn and the North Node- which is pretty potent on many levels…Both Saturn and the North Node push us beyond our edge- and it’s not the comfy, cozy familiar space we are used to." It shows us what we need to transform and that shake up, breakthrough energy that is playing out in our relationships, financial situations, in our value system and more. It's time to LET GO OF THE SAFE OPTION, to DIVE DEEPER, TRAVEL FURTHER and to get to the root of patterns that are based within, as this is the only way up and beyond. For me all this has been magnetising for over a month now: I learned that nothing can change until we can see and face reality- and we need to be able to do this by looking within first to see what is empty, missing or not working. The message I get repeatedly : Come from Love, Be fearless…Live authentically, from your truth…Do what you value and love. I'm learning to not let my head hijack my heart. Becoming more and more aware when my head wants to take over with fear, in the costume of excuses, doubt, mistrust, anger, self-pity, directing me back to old memories and habits. But I’m determined to not let it. This full moon brings light to all these shadow dynamics that lie underneath the surface- the very things I don’t want to look at or have been avoiding dealing with are likely to come to light. COURAGE comes from Old French corage - heart, innermost feelings; temper, and is derived from Latin for cor = cont. below (at Matanivusi Surfresort)

I'm a beginner again, in every sense of the word, and I love it. Understanding, that its just by action-reaction that I live in a certain way. So if I want to experience life differently, I have to think and do differently. To become masters of anything we have to practice. To become masters of life. We practice life. We practice awareness of living - on our yoga mats, by consciously breathing, in the surf, weeding the garden, in our relationships, or even whilst preparing a meal. To become masters of love, we have to practice love. And it's not about following certain rules, or believing in already existing concepts. It's all about action. To have action, we need to have passion. To have passion, we need to know how we want to feel in life. To know how we want to feel in life, we have to take the time to get closer with our body, mind and soul - and through this, with our tastiest desires. To do that, we have to stop distracting ourselves with worry, work or wasting time comparing ourselves with the rest of the world. We have to trust and commit to that feeling and to whatever we are about to learn. There is no guarantee that things will work out the way our mind prefers to have it, but we can be sure that we're going to have the best time of our life. #lustforlife #fijiunplugged #yogaoffthemat

Long flights often beam me into hours of reflection. Some parts in my life are about as uncertain as they can get - by choice. At the moment I have no idea how my path will be paved or how the lessons I opened up to will teach me. Nevertheless I'm grateful for every inch of discovery and growth. For now, I just have to wait. For the sign, the inner or outer signal, the something to tell me how to continue. It's the toughest part of this incredible journey I'm on. When I learned surfing it completely made a mess of my world views and a whole new universe opened up for me. I learned that there is more than just the me I’d known and foreseen to be. I realised that there is a multidimensional me, another 1000 kaleidoscopic reflections. Before I learned surfing, I saw myself in a pretty determined pathway. When I surfed for the first time It was a liberating moment that erupted my comfortable, already prescribed life. The wild open, the ocean gave me complete new possibilities to be. I sensed a deeper meaning to life and the multidimensional person that I am. Surfing, like yoga, forces you, to go out of your comfort zone. You learn to go into the deep layers of yourself. You start to search for the mastery of the unknown, and unrevealed fears. When I started surfing I dropped everything in my life. For more than ten years all my money and time in between uni, was dedicated to surfing. There was no other way to be. This brought me to yoga. Yoga, like surfing is a way of living your life. If I only could describe the first wave I've ever surfed…it’s as difficult as trying to explain what love is. When you surf a wave, nothing in the world matters. You're living in the moment. Surfing for me is freedom. When I look at the ocean I can see a million possibilities. And that is how I see my life.
