Are your “shoulds” getting in the way of your happiness?

Today someone asked me the question: Are your “should” getting in the way of your happiness? At first I said, “no” because I feel accomplished when I complete tasks that I “should” complete. But, I started to think about it more and more. I eventually changed my answer to “yes.” Why you may ask? Well, I thought about college and how this life changing, 4 year process is starting in a few months. The college I chose was SUNY Brockport. Now, I really only focussed on cheap SUNY schools because I didn’t want to make it hard on my parents. And that’s what I should do, right? Yes! But, is SUNY Brockport my absolute DREAM school? No! 

My top schools I wanted to go to were either Emerson or Boston College, both located in Boston. Both have great communications programs. It’s a reasonable distance, and it’s great for me. Boston College was my reach school. I applied to both of them, and surprisingly, I got into both of them. I was so excited, but they’re so expensive. 

Wants are unlimited, needs are limited.

I want happiness, and I feel as if either of those Boston schools would give me that. But both colleges cost a ton. One year’s tuition at either school is worth 2 years at Brockport. I never told my parents that I got into either of those schools because they would be willing to pay for me. But, I couldn’t allow them to sacrifice more for me. So now they believe that my application somehow got lost and I never got an acceptance letter to either of them. 

So I did what I should do as a human being and chose SUNY Brockport. Don’t get me wrong, it was my top SUNY School, but not my top school.

2015-16 NBA tattoo statistics

Using team end-of-season/beginning of playoffs rosters as posted on April 14, 2016, there are 447 players in the NBA. 238 of these players have visible (or otherwise self-reported) tattoos, 209 do not have tattoos. This means that (at least) 53% of the NBA is tattooed this season.
